I remember the…read morefirst time I ever had Impellizzeri's Pizza in the late '80s or early '90s, how blown away I was by both the yumminess of the pizza (it's truly one of a kind) and the warm, friendly service. I think it may have been the owner I encountered there decades ago on Bardstown Road the first time I ever had pizza there. Fast forward to December 2025, and the pizza is still of knockout quality. The service is still great, this time near the Holiday Manor shopping center. I ordered carry out, but couldn't wait to get home before sinking my teeth into the first slice. Yes, it's tempting enough to swallow your pride and sophistication and chomp while behind the wheel (with the vehicle still parked, of course). If you know, you know; it was worth it. And yes, I had plenty of napkins. I was super delighted that Impellizzeri's participated in the WHAS 11 Crusade for Children Pizza Passport initiative, new on the list since last year. Yay for Social Responsibility at Impellizzeri's! I picked my pie up at the bar, and the nice gentleman employed there pointed out for me some napkins and utensils on the bar top. The overall atmosphere was quite nice. Did I mention how amazing that pizza tasted? I'm tempted to go back tonight for another treat. Can't get enough of that deliciousness.

My book club met at Impellizzeri's this week, and upon discovering several of us have dietary limitations, the server and kitchen staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and ensure our ongoing health. A wonderful kitchen wizard ventured out into the dining room to talk to us personally, and confirmed that all the traditional pizza doughs, pastas, and red sauces are vegan. He offered to create a custom pasta dish with a variety of vegetables (spaghetti pomarola with garlic, spinach, and mushrooms), and ensured that the breadsticks that accompany the pasta dish (traditionally made with garlic butter and cheese) were vegan, prepared in a separate location in the kitchen to ensure no dairy contamination. For those with other food allergies and intolerances they ensured every detail was correct, even noticing that a pizza that was inadvertently prepared with an offending food item, and remaking it before it was even finished baking. Pricing is incredibly reasonable for the quantity and the truly excellent service, which is what truly made the experience special. My pasta dish was tasty. Is it the best pasta I've ever had? No - but it wasn't trying to be. What Impellizzeri's does well is serve good food at reasonable prices, in a location and with people who have an eye for detail and a passion for excellent customer service. Well done.

We've been to Italy and Italian Switzerland many times and love their very thin, fold in your hand pies which have fresh tomato sauce and flavorful local cheese. I was hopeful- Impelliizeris had a thin crust option! Unfortunately, it was as disappointing as I remember. The crust is too doughy, the sauce is bland and the cheese was thick and tasteless. We didn't even eat our leftovers. I don't understand why so many like this, perhaps I should order something else if I return. Just a no from us!

He was very friendly and met us as we were seated and took our beverage orders. We usually have a pretty large group when we eat at Impellizzeri's. They have plenty of room for us to sit at the tables and not all scrunched up like at some restaurants. After he had everyone's drink orders, he went around and got everyone's food order. He did a great job according to me! I think almost everyone had already chosen what they wanted to eat, it seems most of us already have a favorite. My husband chose to have the Mama's Lasagna and it came with a bread stick. I had really been looking forward to have a Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza. One friend had a large salad. Everyone else was going to order larger pizzas and share them. Sean had everyone's pizza ordered and it really didn't take very long before they were being delivered to our tables. I'd really like to brag on their staff for getting the pizzas out so quickly! They were beautifully made, cooked perfectly, and were delicious! Then I found out that the GM, Tim was helping out in the kitchen! Tim, thank you for having such a great staff! That was disappointing, especially since there wasn't any indication before walking in. What made the experience worse was the staff's attitude. Instead of being welcoming or apologetic, they came across as rude and dismissive. I understand places can sell out or have unexpected issues, but a little courtesy goes a long way. Hopefully this was just an off day, but based on this experience, I wouldn't make a special trip back.
