During our recent visit, we ordered a seafood platter $37.00 and noticed a couple of things we wanted to pass along to perspective, future patrons.. The coleslaw had a noticeably sour taste, and the scallops appeared overly greasy and darker in color than the rest of the meal. When this was brought to their attention, they replaced the scallops with new skulls, but were again re-soaked in docker in color for whatever reason then the rest of the meal. Looking for a quick stop for ice cream and the name obviously caught our eye! They had a good variety of ice cream flavors but nothing really impressed me. Anyplace named Dipsy Doodle Dairy Bar, would catch my attention for sure! And we had a fabulous time! I got the haddock nugget fish tacos and they were delicious, fresh, big nugget chunks, not greasy or heavy. My partner ordered clam strips and the were fresh and delicious too. Our kiddo got a chili hot dog and he devoured it and said the chili wasn't spicy so that was good., the fries are great! Definitely eat there. It's a locals hot spot. Also, indulge in the ice cream. It's Giffords I think, so about 50 flavors and the soft serve was very creamy. I'd stop there again anytime! There are plenty of outdoor picnic tables to eat at too. read more

Neat little drive-in restaurant located across the street from the Northfield Police Dept. Dipsy Doodle Dairy Bar offers burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, fried seafood (haddock, clams, scallops, shrimp), lobster rolls, chicken tenders, chowder, salads, fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, Pepsi products (vending machine outside too), and ice cream treats (25 hard flavors plus soft serve, dipped cones, sundaes, shakes,). Food items are served solo, but for $1.50 more can be upgraded to plates (fries & slaw). There are outside takeout windows, outside picnic tables and a takeout counter with inside seating, but just be warned that the inside really smells a strong odor of seafood. Stopped here for lunch and had the Chicken Tenders Sandwich Plate ($7.29 with tax), which was ready in 10 minutes. The food was pretty good and tasty. The sandwich had 2 breaded plump white meat chicken tender with lettuce & tomato on a toasted bun with side of mayo, with lightly fried fresh cut fries, and a light tasting minced cole slaw. Highly recommend the fried haddock sandwich. It's the best I've ever had and that includes those from more traditional seafood restaurants on the coast. The price is also pretty good. This place is everything you would expect from a roadside ice cream/fried seafood joint-and more. The fried seafood comes out of the fryer sizzling hot with a nice crust. My only complaint is if you eat there the road noise is a bit intrusive and some of the patrons are sloppy about masks and keeping their distance. read more

I am a huge fan of good fried clams, both my sister and my mother claims that this place has some of the best in the area. So I drove down to try them out and when I got there, the board outside showing the prices said that they were about $18-$20. When I went to order, a girl who looked like she had no clue what she was doing, probably fairly new, took my order, and I insisted on giving a small tip. Even though that was all I got, the price ended up being over $30!!! For a few ounces or so of clams and fries. I'm not a person of confrontation and like I said, the girl running the register looked new. I did try to hint that I think she was charging me a little much by hinting that "the price of clams must be high nowadays" and small things like that but ended up paying far too much for what I got. However, after that things went smoothly. The food didn't take too long and the person handling the food even gave me some extra sour cream. Considering I ordered this food during the pandemic, I took it and started to head to my house and eat it there. Once I was in my car I did open up the container once and quickly eat a clam, but I once again closed it tightly and headed home. The clams were good indeed. When I got home, I got a plate and started shoveling the food onto it, whilst eating a few fries. As I took a fry, it uncovered a (what looked like to be) deep fried wasp or maybe just dead wasp that was just sitting in my food. Sadly, I had only noticed this after I had eaten the fry that was covering it and that it had likely been touching. I understand that the windows are open in the hot spring and summer and that bugs will occasionally get into the building, but working at a place where I use deep friers and prepare food similarly as well, it's not very hard to spot a bug, maybe a hair or something out of the ordinary when preparing food like this. Seems like the people here just didn't really pay much retention when preparing the food and unfortunately I got the result. After that ordeal, I grabbed what I could from around the wasp and ate what was salvaged. Unfortunately even though it had only been around 10 minutes or so since I had gotten the food, the batter encasing the clams had become soggy and not that great and the fries kind of tasted a bit too potatoey, almost like they were undercooked. All around disappointing experience and I'll only be going back if I'm in the area or am brought there by friends or family. read more

The place is an easy stop for ice cream and giffords ice cream is usually pretty good so you can't go wrong. However I took 2 stars off for a few reasons. First the staff were not the friendliest, we asked if we could try some flavors and she said yes. There were 2 of us and I tried 1 flavor and my dad tried 2. She never mentioned a 3 sample limit per group until after the fact when he asked to try one last flavor. I understand limiting, but maybe say that up front so you can pick the samples more wisely. Also what if it's a party of 4, I guess someone can't try a flavor. I also took a star off because I sampled a flavor that was supposed to have chocolate pieces and the sample was filled with them, yet when I ordered a scoop, there was literally 1 chocolate piece in the entire scoop. Also my dad couldn't finish his cone because the paper was stuck to half of it. It was an easy stop for ice cream, but wouldn't be my first choice considering giffords is sold all over. read more

After reading many reviews we gave this place a try tonight for dinner. The shrimps were lol shrimpy but everything was right on par for what good seafood should be! I will say I was a bit surprised by the portion size as I am use to getting quite a bit more for my dollar when it comes to ice cream shack seafood. Based on my previous experiences in southern Nh where I would have easily gotten half my plate full of scallops I was saddened that there were only about 7. They were however fried perfectly so you got that light batter with the buttery sweetness of the shellfish. The shrimp were good I just wish they were of the larger variety. My kids enjoyed the chicken tenders and fries and my mom had the clams and fillet of haddock. She said they were good. I would've given 3.5 but had to go with 3 because of the value. If you want some tasty seafood and don't mind splurging a bit then head on over to Dipsy Doodle. read more

Plump, springy fresh. WMUR voted this the 5th best in the state... not a place you'd find without some direction. But absolutely excellent. And I'm aCT girl who knows just shellfish! Fries are delish too. As are the ice cream & flavors. Service can be hit or miss. 1 time the roll was almost immediate, & 1 time took 25 mins. Bit I'll keep going back. We stopped here for dinner due to a recommendation from a friend. I had the scallop boat and my husband the nuggets and seafood chowder. We've been to many places for fried seafood and this one is just okay - not terrible but nothing great. The prices are higher than any of the other seafood places that we frequent. The portions are okay but not generous and the taste is just meh. We won't be returning as there are plenty of better places out there for fried seafood that are all around much better. read more

Went there today with my wife ,93 yr.old mother and 92 yr.old mother in law. We went for ice cream, my wife and the mothers all ordered sundaes, my mothers was hot fudge, there was dribble on the bottom, which she found when she got to the bottom of the cup. Mother in law got a sundae with chocolate syrup, it had three lines of syrup across the top. My wife got a hot fudge and peanut butter on top, she had no hot fudge on it , gave it back and asked to have some put on, they brought it back and she ate the whole thing and never found any hot chocolate at all. I brought my mothers up to the window after she ate the whipped cream and showed it to the two managers and they both said it was on the bottom, i move the ice cream around and showed them that there was none there. the male manager told me that we were unhappy people when we got there and we were still unhappy. I told him we just wanted what we paid for ( expensive at 5.29, you can get a much better sundae at happy cow in Laconia for 4.59 and it's loaded). He said you got your sauces, I said your sign ( right next to me on the window) says if your not happy let us know, if you are go on facebook, I said i'm letting you know i'm not happy and i won't be back and he answer was ( with a waveing of his hand) bye bye. I also ordered a side of fried mushrooms which were advertised on the outside wall AS $3.99, they rang up at $4.99. When i got my receipt, i saw that i was charged $4.99 i brought it to the young lady attention and she said to the female manager, ( he said the board outside says these are on special for $ 3.99) manager comes over and said she all ready charged your card. I said cancel it and redo the charge, She opened the register and threw a $ on the counter and walked off. I have never had such poor service in my life and i'm 74. This is one of those great, seasonal, roadside ice cream (and hot food) dairy bars that you see around New England. However, the Dipsy Doodle is in a class by itself. That's why the parking lot is often full during the summer, despite its off-the-beaten path location. (You can get there from Exit 19 off Route 93 if you're driving north. If you're heading south on Route 93, you'll need to take Exit 20 and wind your way to downtown Tilton, over the river (at the lights) and almost all the way back to Route 93.) The ice cream is amazing. Their hot food is also legendary, especially their fried seafood and their lobster rolls. Even if you have to park half a block away at the convenience store, the Dipsy Doodle is worth visiting... regularly. read more

My husband and I just ordered the Seafood Platter and shared it, there was more then enough for the two of us. Everything on it was done to perfection in our opinion, right down to the tartar sauce which had lots of pickle in it. That's important to me because I love tartar sauce, everywhere else I've ever been for seafood, the tartar sauce is all mayo. I guess you know, we'll be back again. This is a fun place to go for ice cream treats as well as the typical stand food such as hamburgers and fried seafood. The food is good but not good for you. BUT the outside picnic tables and grounds are nasty. The tables are black with residue and you have to be careful not to step in ketchup or tarter sauce on the ground. All they have to do is periodically clean and pressure wash weekly. So, only two stars. I know you can do better. read more

Ice Cream is awesome. Seafood is a bit pricey. There is no competition so they can have higher prices. We would eat lunch here often but the price drives us away so we go into tilton or the corner store to eat. DONT GET ME WRONG..... the food looks amaizing and smells amaizing but 29.99 for a seafood platter, I eat out alot and thisnis the most Ive ever seen it! Also, 22.99 I believe for a lobster roll.... Thats about 5.00 to 7.00 too much.... again, they look phenomenal though. Now for the ice cream its awesome but a little higher priced than some nearby places (few miles away) I still support them every now and then for ice cream only. Thats all I have to write. Dipsy Doodle has been one of my absolute favorite places to go for fried seafood for the last several years. I went there this past weekend, and ordered the haddock bites plate. Typically, my friend & I always split the order, because it's so large. Well we were SO happy to hear that they were finally open for the season, so we ordered a haddock bites plate to go. I got to her house, and opened it up, and there were 5 little pieces of fish in there. Definitely disappointing to pay the same amount as we always have, and to not have enough for even one person to be content, let alone 2. Definitely disappointed in the change. Just a note....if you're going to make the portion sizes WAY smaller, you should probably note it on your menu somewhere, so people who have been ordering from you for years, know that they're only getting 5 little "haddock nuggets", as opposed to the 15-20 pieces you used to give with that meal. SO disappointed, as this has always been my favorite place to go for seafood. Looks like i'll have to find a new favorite place :( Side note - The fish tasted ok. No where near as good as it used to be though. The haddock bites plate used to come with about 15-20 little pieces of haddock. Now it comes with 5 pieces that are slightly larger (too much fish for the amount of breading though). Definitely not impressed with the change. read more

We went there last year after reading they had won Best of NH Fried Clams. Not only was the Clam Plate portions large, but these were real fresh Ipswich Clams and were as sweet as could be. I judge Dairy Bars on several things, like the Cole Slaw. There's is home made and made fresh daily. It was tasty and not too sweet. I had sweat potato fries with my plate. I order fries crisp and they got it right. My wife had a lobster roll, which was packed with meat and not filler, at a fair price. She had it cold, but I noticed they had hot buttered lobster rolls also. Something to try another time. I had a diet soft drink, but my wife had a black and white frappe. I got a sip and it was tasty and thick. That's the way I like frappes - thick! read more

My favorites are the Seafood Platter with Sweet Potato Fries, Cheeseburgers, Roofbeer Floats. By the time I eat all of this, I'm too full for dessert. Leeland's review doesn't know a good place when he sees it (see his review on other items....judge for yourself). The owner at Dipsy Doodle is friendly and very funny. The restaurant is Very Clean. My husband and I have dined here for years and always look forward to summer so we can return for another year. The business changed hands and I must honestly say we will no longer be patrons of Dipsy Doodle. We both ordered the two seafood choice and was appalled when the waitress brought us an appetizer sized plate with 4 scallops and about 8 fried clams. We were hungry when we left and it cost us $40 with one drink and the two "dinners", and that was with no fries or cole slaw. Just pure disappointment. You have lost two loyal patrons. read more

Stopped in for lunch yesterday while up in the area. The food was decent, the waitress was super nice, super friendly but not a well trained. There was only one other table of people in the place and we still waited 15 minutes for 2 lemonades (which tasted like from powdered mix not fully dissolved). I got the cheese burger, husband got the chicken. Aside from the sour coleslaw (which they did offer to replace), the food was okay but a tad overpriced. A cheese burger (super good) & onion rings (also super good), a chicken sandwich (with only lettuce & tom) & fries and 2 medium lemonades came to just over $20.00 which is a little pricey given the nature of the place & quality of the food. I'd go back to try the ice cream but likely to skip the food with so many other choices in the area. read more

My wife and I had take out scallop plates there yesterday. The scallops were dry, the breading was terrible, and the bottom of our containers had a giant pool of grease. I got the onion rings in mine and had to pull a long hair out of one of them. At over $40 bucks for the two meals, it was really terrible. We had eaten there in the past and they were no where near that bad. The place had gone downhill....can't speak for the ice cream, but don't waste your money on the food. read more
