I was craving dullet and none of the Ethiopian restaurants near me offer this dish, so I made the trek to Inglewood. The parking lot is not that big, but we managed to find a spot. The restaurant is located on the second floor. The interior is spacious but very plain appearing. Service was average. There was the typical attempt to offer only bottled water when asking for water to drink. The menu is not that big either, though prices are lower than other Ethiopian restaurants. What stood out to me was the delicious dullet (quite a large portion) and the homemade injera. The injera here was darker than other places, and tasted absolutely lovely. The veggie combo was also good, though I wish it came with more than four items. Overall, tasty food, and I will be back for more dullet! read more

My husband and I usually go to Fairfax to eat and never liked the food that I ordered there but when I came to Dirdawa I love it! I don't eat Ethiopian food often but this place is a game changer for me. Prices are really cheap. Definitely will come back . Good customer service ! I don't know what some of these reviews are on about but this is a gem of an Ethiopian restaurant, with a great location open 7 days a week! The owners are very friendly and service was both prompt and attentive! Best of all THEY MAKE THEIR OWN BEBERE SPICE MIX ( seriously the best I've had in Los Angeles and that includes all the spots on fairfax) and they make their own injera as well which has a rich fermented flavor that let's you know that it's really homemade and not mass produced. I had the derek tibs which is deep fried beef sautéed in reptilian spiced butter with peppers and onions! So good but the berbere spice is what really made the experience for me! I wish I could say positive things about this restaurant but there were too many negatives. There is little to no room to sit inside and it does not have a very clean appearance. The service was mediocre at best but friendly I will give them that. The food was not up to par with what I'm used to for Ethiopian. I ordered a beef dish and chicken kebab plate. The beef chewy and the dish was heavily oiled. I have had better beef dishes in other Ethiopian restaurants The kebab plate was even more disappointing. We came here in a rush to drop off my wife's brother at the airport so we were stuck with what we found. We came here with big hope as I had not yet read the reviews. We walked in and the owner and staff were very friendly. The USA/Argentina game was on. They sat us down together which was nice. We ordered the falafel plate as well as the veggie combo plate. Took 30 minutes to get our food. Falafels were dry and the garnish of salad was dead. The veggie combo was much better. Not the best I've had but nice. Tef bread was also ok. The staff was very nice and sweet to us. They also let us eat our desserts we brought with us. That was much appreciative. Overall, the food was ok nothing great. This restaurant was such a pleasant surprise. It's a little hole in the wall in a strip mall. The food was possibly the yummiest Ethiopian food I've ever had. I've gone to several Ethiopian places many times in the SF Bay Area, and this little place had better food than most of them. The menu is really limited. We had the veggie platter and tibs (#13) and the beef curry. The tibs was oily but delicious. The curry was also delicious. The veggie platter was really good, although the red lentils were undercooked and the yellow were a bit bland. All in all, if you're ok with a slightly dingy decor, I HIGHLY recommend this place. Be very careful coming here. Your GPS will send you to the heart of Inglewood, while this place is just WEST of the 405!! Plus in 1100 W. Florence in Los Angeles, not Inglewood, and that should get you there. Aside from the erroneous address, the food is good--a little more simply seasoned than most other Ethiopian places but nonetheless good (3 stars); I'm basing this on getting the veggie combo and beef plate of Ethiopian food, though note that they also have some Mediterranean food. What makes this place stand out is its pricing--starting at about $7.99 per plate, and its service--the servers are very warm and welcoming and aim to please. The venue itself needs a bit of an upgrade, but as is, does well to give you a rustic, down to earth ambiance including a cute patio. Bottom line: With a bit more of our patronage, this place could easily become the next go-to for Ethiopian when you don't wish to deal with Fairfax! read more

DO NOT COME HERE FOR MEDITERRANEAN FOOD, IT IS SO BAD! I got a Falafel plate with salad, a staple in the cuisine, something that is hard to mess up. Well they found several ways to! First and foremost whatever they believe to be tahini sauce is not. It is brown and taste like oil. I spit it out twice it was so bad. I guess I'm hard headed should have learned from the first bite! My salad was warm, limp, and also very oily. What kind of Mediterranean salad doesn't have feta and cucumbers. The Falafel lacks the proper spice and a poor balance of chickpeas and fava beans. I watched the chef take the pita out a bag in the fridge and microwave it without so much as a paper plate between the bread and microwave. This place is alright.. it's located in a little strip mall next to the Three Weavers brewery. Upon coming in the restaurant looks pretty run down - a little hole in the wall, i was able to use the restroom which was pretty dingy and smelly. I ordered the steak tips, which was cooked with some sort of tomato based sauce with bell peppers and onions. The steak mixture was wrapped in an abundance of ethiopian bread. I found the entre to be a little lacking in flavor, while the meat was very rough and difficult to chew. I found the food to be a bit subpar given the wait for the it ~ 20 minutes. The Nech Tibs are really tasty. I wasn't a huge fan of the vegetarian combo plate. Tasted like bland Indian food. All four times I have eaten here, they didn't have the hummus plate. I am not sure why mediterranean food is even on the menu. If you dine in, there is a cool little patio in the back. Nech Tibs, Ethiopian coffee and hookah is the making of a fun, chill night with friends. Be advised that the Yelp menu prices are outdated. Their takeout menu says they deliver but they don't. Most definitely recommend for Ethiopian dishes especially since it's hard to find in the area! We came on a Saturday at 5pm and had a very delicious veggie combo and at a great price. The shire was uniquely tasty and all other veggies were also fresh. We ordered and didn't take much at all for our dish even when it seems like they have one person mostly cooking (not sure if it's different if more busy). Friendly customer service. The inside of the restaurant is not big but the back patio makes up for the space and is cute to hang out on a nice day. I would give 5 stars but my ordering process was not good. Not the fault of the restaurant but the fault of GRUBHUB! Now the restaurant /food review:: Very Nice and helpful. All employees and even customers spoke and said hello. they even apologized for Grub-hubs poor service. I ordered the Vege combo. It was reasonably priced and the food was delicious and very seasoned!. They gave me 3 big panjera bread which was great!!! Try this place out if you haven't before. they also have a canopy covered patio that you can use to host parties or large get together.. Suggestion: when you see "fulfilled by Grub-hub", run.. to the phone and call the restaurant yourself to place an order, because that's all Grub-hub does is call in the order and give your name. .... Now.. i placed my order on Yelp using grubhub. (AND PAID FOR THE MEAL THROUGH GRUB-HUB at the time i placed the order i was 20min away from the restaurant. So i get there and they tell me they never received an order on my behalf. So i replaced the order with them directly and paid them directly. 20 Min later i received my order and left. A 20 min ride back home. While I'm eating the food i get a call from the restaurant letting me know grub-hub just called and placed the order. They wanted to make sure i had not ordered a 2nd time. Utterly ridiculous. If I had not used the yelp (grub-hub) app i would of saved myself the inconvenience and wasted time. ALSO I had to call grub-hub and demand a refund for the order i originally paid. After a whole lot of scripted apologies they agreed to refund my purchase. Since this incident I have placed orders to other restaurants through the Yelp/grub hub and have had the driver never even bring the food. He/She picked the food up from the restaurant and apparently took it home and ate it themselves. Grub-hub had to refund that purchase as well. And then the very last time i used grub-hub they charged me $1 more for every item i ordered, because they copied the places menu and put their own prices. Oooh, I needed a quick meal and options in the area of the brewery where I was meeting people were few. Then I saw the open sign and decided I was eating there no matter what. I asked for how long the salmon would take and he said about 20 minutes... I did not have that kind of time so I asked what was quick. He recommended a vegetarian meal, which I promptly ordered. When I received it, it was huge, looked like nothing I'd had before. It was divided into four sections and wrapped in a really good homemade bread. It was exactly what I needed, a nice big portion of healthy vegetables seasoned great and light enough to keep going with my night (though I had plenty left over for the next days lunch). Found this restaurant by accident b/c the Vegan Cuban restaurant was closed. We entered though a small door directly in front of the kitchen which was a but awkward. I almost turned around to leave but since my lunch date didn't say anything, I proceeded. The inside is very small w/about 7 tables that seat 2 people comfortably and 1 to 2 more if they are willing to sit in the very narrow aisle. They do have a patio that looked pretty spacious, however, it was bone cold so I didn't even consider going out there. There was a nice sized TV w/a game on that wasn't a distraction at all. We were greeted warmly by our server that spoke English and presented w/menus and we were immediately asked if we wanted something to drink. I ordered the ginger tea and it was delicious (I had two full cups) and I also ordered the veggie combo. Can't remember the dish my friend had but it was cooked beef pieces mixed w/injera that came w/a small salad. Our food was delivered promptly and over the course of the hour that we were there, people were streaming in placing multiple orders to go, filling up all the tables inside and by the time we left, half of the patio was full. I loved my veggie combo that came w/4 pieces of injera, not including the one on the plate. Our bill was $27.46 cents, which included two entrees, tea and bottled water. We both left feeling quite full and w/enough food for each of us to have a second meal. This might be my new place for Ethiopian food, since I leave in the general vicinity. Honestly if I could leave a negative star I would. I ordered from google which connected to eatstreet.com. When you order through google it requires you to pre-pay for your food. Once I got there one of the 2 employees was bagging up my food. When I gave him my name he said I hadn't paid for the food and that I needed to pay cash. I told him I pre paid for the food online and he said that the online system didn't charge me for the tax (what???). I pulled up my receipt and I had clearly been charged $1.60 for tax. I showed him my receipt and he pulled up the order which in big bold letters said "DO NOT CHARGE" at the top. I told him he was welcome to keep the food and just give me a refund because I was already having second thoughts about the resteraunt since it was the middle of lunch hour and the place was completely empty and kind of dirty. Once he finally gave me my food and said he would call the order company I left. I got to my car a less than I block away when I got A CALL from the same man saying that "The order company agreed to pay the tax". Again tax had already been collected on the order on my receipt. Our friend was in town from Texas and his girlfriend picked this restaurant. It was my second time trying Ethiopian food and my husband's first time. We were amazed how flavorful and tasty all the food was. The waitress was friendly and accommodating so we appreciated it. We ran out of time to try their coffee so we must return to try their uniquely flavorful food and definitely their coffee! Our only regret was we should've washed our hands before eating since we were adventurous to eat the Ethiopian style, with our hands! So we'll exercise more self-discipline next time! read more

This was my second time here, and sadly it will be my last. The first time around, I would have given the restaurant 3 stars based on an average of 4 stars for the food, 2 for low standards of decor, hygiene, and the fact that the bathroom smelled acridly of ammonia, and 3 stars for service that was a little slow, but otherwise ok. However, I'm revising that downward in light of the extremely poor service we experienced this time around. We were barely acknowledged when we walked in. No one approached us to seat us or take our order, so we just awkwardly made our way towards the patio and seated ourselves. It took some time for a waiter, who had been sitting with his friends and watching basketball the entire time, to come over and take our order and clear the table. We ordered a vegetarian combo to split, and two hot teas. Another long interval passed before a waitress showed up with the wrong order, which looked good but wasn't going to work for my boyfriend, who doesn't eat meat. Rather than accept that a miscommunication had been made, she first told me that I was wrong, then tried to convince us to accept the order she brought out instead. I explained the situation, and let her know we didn't want the dish she'd brought us - at which point, she just turned away, without explanation or offering any solution. The waiter, who'd been within earshot the entire time, eventually came over to again insist that we had ordered something that my boyfriend can't eat. We debated for a couple minutes, before I simply had to let him know that if he didn't mind, we just wanted to pay for our teas and leave. He agreed, and proceeded to go back to his seat to continue watching the game, without making any move to bring us our check. After wasting more time sitting around for the check, we finally just got up, handed five dollars to a waitress, and left - which was clearly something we should have done a lot sooner. read more
