The wife and I were in for early supper last night. 1/14/26. Started with 2 orders Deep Fried Mushrooms. Tasty. Her dish had at least 1/3 more than mine. Not a big thing but at $11.00 each, come on guys. The wife had Fish & Chips, the waitress asked her if she would like Fries with that.....We didn.t have the heart to tell her the fries ARE the CHIPS. Two pieces of fish thrown on the plate. The frozen fish (Gorden's) we get at Walmart look more appetizing and my wife said taste better as well. I had the Smoked Brisket cuz I LOVE brisket. My wife warned me and I should have listened. 5 or 6 pieces (chunks) of meat. Smoked? That's up for debate. Arranging the food on a plate is not something a person really needs advanced schooling for but these folks in the kitchen could use some basic instruction. BTW...The sauce for the meat. I imagine a container something like a mustard container...get the picture? OK, so, pick it up, turn it over and quickly lay a stream down on the meat. Some of the meat got some, some didn't. If the purpose of putting the sauce on the meat was to make it look better.......sorry, didn't quite achieve the desired outcome. The meat was tough. The baked potato on the other hand.....was the best part of the main course. My compliments to the potato farmer. I had coffee and my wife had RUST flavored lemonade. Yes, I typed RUST. Now, in all honesty, we have been here to eat a few times in the past and enjoyed the meal. Not sure what happened tonight but basically, close to $100. poorly spent. read more

Ambiance was good and food delivered quickly. The coleslaw was very good as was the tartar sauce which is fortunate as it gave the jerky like cod some taste. The 2 small pieces of overpriced cod were the toughest I've ever tried to eat but were hot and quickly served....Cost for cod dinner was $14.50..... and for anyone funny about using clean bathrooms the guys restroom smelled like piss..... To be clear, I'm giving this place an extra star because we come here every Sunday for breakfast after our hike and the staff and owners are awesome. The food is decent, mostly good but sometimes a miss. We love all their breakfast foods. Their beer battered pancakes are delicious. They were out of ribs, service was somewhat slow, my brisket was very fatty, the beef in my wife's French dip was very fatty. It took forever to get a scotch rocks. The manager did bring me two pieces of lean brisket to accommodate the original serving. By then my sides were gone and the second portion of brisket was just too little too late. I have to say the original portion of brisket was quite small as well. read more

This review is for a dining experience from mid-July. I must have seen this place after one of my hikes out east and we finally stopped in for dinner one Saturday, early evening. Its decor as I expected a diner in Apache Junction to have. A lot of wood, taxidermy animals, and other old nick-knacks. The parking lot is pretty large but definitely needs re-paved and the lines re-painted. They were almost invisible. Luckily we got there relatively early for dinner and there were not many cars for us to worry about. The food was good but to be honest the four-star rating was due in large part to our server, Tresa. She was wonderful: attentive, funny, and witty. I am in no way saying the food was bad (the pineapple coleslaw was something new for me, and it had a nice flavor). The zucchini appetizer came out piping hot, my sister ordered the prime rib, and I believe I ordered a small sirloin. I do not eat prime rib but usually it's a nice deep pink color when my sister orders it at other places. This time it was not pink; my sirloin was flavored pretty well but I still used A-1 for a bit extra flavor. For desert we ordered the peach cobbler which wasn't bad, but I think the crust was store bought - not bad in and of itself, I guess I was hoping for something thicker and much flakier. So yes, the food was good but considering we live in Laveen, I would not say it was good enough to drive back all that way ... unless we happen to be in the area for another hike. In which case, yeah, I would eat at Dirtwater again. :-) read more

I had the Jared's brisket mac and cheese. I could only eat 3 bites. It was thick, gloppy cheese like glue with no flavor. Unfortunately I had ordered it "to go" so I didn't realize until I was home how terrible it was. I threw it out. Also when I went in to pick it up I was ignored by my staff who walked right passed me without acknowledging me. Kraft mac and cheese is box is better than what they are serving. read more

This place is great for breakfast. It reminds me of the old bars we used to hang out in during the 80s and the beer batter packages we used to make while camping. I enjoyed the pancakes the country fried potatoes here. While waiting for our food, I asked the nice lady behind the bar if the have Happy Hour and she said yes. Then I asked her what kind of beer the have on tap and there were a lot and thenvshe said Alaskan Amber. I was surprised so I'll be visiting as much as possible when I'm here. The waitress and the lady behind the bar were so nice which made the experience even more enjoyable. I also enjoyed the decor with the lights on the ceiling giving it a festive feel. I'm going back for HH this afternoon so I can enjoy some my favorite beer, Alaskan Amber, and try one of their burgers too. I'm looking forward to another enjoyable experience. read more

Food was super good. Portions were good. It's a fairly older crowd that goes here. We are in our mid 30s and we were the youngest ones there by a long shot. Most all the guests were older than my grandparents hahah. So it was quiet and enjoyable to be there for sure. I love the backyard patio, the vibe and the quirky decor. read more

We recently tried this bar/restaurant for the first time. First, the decor and atmosphere were great (Western/Cowboy.) That is the only good thing I can say for the place. We had biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were hard and the gravy tasteless. The place was not busy, but the service was still slow and not attentive. We will not be returning. read more

They were cooked in dirty grease, lacking flavor (other than dirty grease), and were wildly over price. Cheeseburger was better than average, but the grill it was cooked on could use cleaning. I REALLY wanted to give this place a great review because I love locally owned establishments and when I've driven by this place, it looks rustic and fun. I didn't dine in, I ordered a burger and fries to go. By the time I got home, only about 5 minutes away, the burger grease was soaking into the cheapy hamburger bun so it was getting soggy. Eew. The burger itself was undercooked, pink through out. I pulled it of the soggy bun and finished cooking it myself. The fries were, well, sad. They were limp and if they were sentient, they most certainly would have been embarrassed. I popped the fries into oven, and vanquished their shame to crispy goodness like a proper fry. It was a burrito challenge, which I unfortunately lost. 10.5 years later, I finally was able to get a food challenge win in the Grand Canyon State! Contestants have 1 hour to finish the steak, along with your choice of two sides. I chose sweet potatoes fries & a bowl of cream of mushroom soup. This challenge must be reserved ahead of time. I opted to support local & order delivery for #YelpsBigNightIn 2.0 and honestly after being hyped up with so many good recommendations, I was left a little disappointed. This wasn't the "home cooking" I expected. The chicken fried steak was okay, being the best part of the meal (with the gravy). I did appreciate them using real, flavored meat gravy instead of the tasteless white, flour-based. It also really helped the mashed potatoes, because those were totally flavorless. No seasonings at all. When it came to the roasted, seasonal vegetables- they tasted old. Some were crunchy & not fully cooked, while the remainder was a bit soggy & flavor was borderline rancid. Paying an extra $4 for roasted corn was mistake & a rip off. Corn does not cost THAT much (I just bought a 4 pack from Safeway for the same price!). But this corn definitely wasn't "grilled". You can tell the distinct difference between grill marks & char flavor- this was literally set on a burner or in an oven to "blacken" and it was just gross. Half of it was not cooked while the rest was burnt black. Thanks for the bucket of melted butter on the side to drown the flavor? I don't like writing such a negative review for a local business (especially one that has been around a while and I'm mutual friends with those who know the owners). But, I ended up having to make myself something else for dinner because the only thing actually appetizing & edible was the chicken fried steak, and my appetite was soured from eating more of this order after the sides pretty much killed it. Maybe it was an off day? Not sure, but I'm not very eager to try again. Others swear the meatloaf is the best... but does it matter if all the sides aren't good? She liked her chicken strips and I absolutely loved my fish dinner. I actually had 12 pieces of fish and it was great, as was the Tatar Sauce! The pineapple cold slaw is good also. I've tried twice to order food through DoorDash. First time my driver was waiting over 30 minutes before they said they didn't get an order from me? If I did place an order through doordash then how did the doordash driver go there? Tried again tonight for the fish fry and again driver from doordash went there and waited only to find out their "fish fryer" was down! Went there for lunch today. The brisket sandwich on the web menu was no longer available, much to the surprise of the barkeep. I got water. It tasted like it came from a salt water lagoon. I suggested that perhaps they should have their water system tweaked? "Oh, no. We just had the softener tuned up yesterday." They are serving softened water that is sooooo salty that it made my eyes roll back. You don't serve the public softened water. It can give people heart attacks from the sodium it provides. And dudes? I sometimes drink my softened water @home. This stuff @DIrtwater was from a completely different planet. This is a SERIOUS HEALTH RISK. DON't DRINK THE WATER AT THIS PLACE, OR YOU'RE GONNA DIE. read more

First off, we were seated very quickly by the gal up front, thank you. We looked at menu and were ready to order right away. Waitress passed us by to take the orders of the larger table next to us first. After taking the other order that came in after us, she turned around and asked how we were doing. I said fine, can we give to our drink orders. She said oh sure and then I told her that we were ready to order our food, we were sitting there with menus closed. Not very observant, maybe was taken care of a couple of locals before us. We ordered the fish dinners and got them after what seemed to be her locals. She seemed to want to get us out quickly, no offer of dessert although she did ask the table behind us if they saved room for dessert. Fish and Fries were very good, cole-slaw, not great That's ok, the food was very good but due to the service, I'd rather not come back. Plenty of good places to eat in town. I just finished the best bacon blue cheese burger around, I ordered the fries double fried ( They are always accommodating) The one thing that I appreciate, is the fact that I can always count on a great meal! Delicious bacon, perfect amount of blue cheese, and the Burger was cooked perfectly (Just the way I ordered it).
