I really enjoy Dirtwater Springs! I have never had a bad meal here. I have tried many of their dishes and have been pleasantly surprised each time. The drinks here are awesome as well. They come up with some real cool ones during the holidays! The waitresses are very accommodating and sweet. My favorite meal here is the fried chicken! OMG! Delicious. First off, we were seated very quickly by the gal up front, thank you. We looked at menu and were ready to order right away. Waitress passed us by to take the orders of the larger table next to us first. After taking the other order that came in after us, she turned around and asked how we were doing. I said fine, can we give to our drink orders. She said oh sure and then I told her that we were ready to order our food, we were sitting there with menus closed. Not very observant, maybe was taken care of a couple of locals before us. We ordered the fish dinners and got them after what seemed to be her locals. Everyone here is extremely friendly and helpful. They always greet us as soon as we come through the door. We were fortunate to find this place. I've made it my favorite dinner spot and try to eat there once a week. Try the zucchini appetizer! It's to die for!! We have never been disappointed by the food. My husband has had more menu items than I have because I just can't get away from ordering the zucchini. I love the décor, too. I love having fun, interesting, and silly stuff to look at. Upon entering the restaurant at 4:50 pm, the staff was not in any hurry to seat us. We were the only 3 people waiting to be seated and the establishment was not busy. There was NO AC in the main entrance, it was hot. Thankfully when we finally were seated there was AC. We stopped because we wanted a good fish fry. It was the worst fish fry ever! Amazing food! I went there multiple times and 4 food items really stood out. Their ribs, beer battered pancakes, omelettes, and corn beef and cabbage sandwich were all exceptional and delicious. However the only reason it isn't a 5 star is their shoe staff. When you walk in you have to just sit at a table and wait for someone to sit you somewhere. The place is very old fashioned and cool. Have heard a lot of good things about this place. We went in there last night to give it a try. We got there about 6:30 PM And the place was packed. The Dirtwater Springs company Christmas party was going to start at 8 PM. We got our drinks and food order in quickly So we could get out the door and let them enjoy their Christmas party. The food was very good. I got the cheeseburger and my friend got the chicken fried steak.The place had a family feel. Before we left somebody came around, I'm assuming the manager, And thanked us for coming in and also wished us a merry Christmas. Very nice touch. read more

What can I say. We ordered 2 drinks on Saturday and had somewhere to be in an hour. We ordered appetizers since we figured that would be the quickest. The waitress was brand new and really didn't belong working there. She wasn't being trained right and mostly all she did was walk back and forth. She forgot about our order or something. She also walked in and out of the kitchen not doing a thing. Very slow kitchen? and we canceled our order and out it came. It was time to go so we weren't charged for the appetizers. We were told too many people ordered at once. Never heard that before. FYI other custowers orders were getting messed up too! If located anywhere in the country a place with the name Dirtwater Springs has a 99% chance of either being a sleazy bar or a kitschy corporate-owned theme restaurant with frozen food and frozen-faced service. Now put that same place in Apache Junction, Arizona and you pray that it's going to buck the trend and be something worthwhile. I've got news for you ... this place is something worthwhile! Let's start with the fact that it's been around for 35 years. I think that's before the term "kitschy corporate-owned theme restaurant" was even invented. They call themselves a family dining place and for once there's truth in advertising. This is that one type of place that I seem to stumble on in small towns across America in my travels that really is a good old fashioned family restaurant that's not filled with pretentious tourists or wannabe karaoke singers. We were greeted at the door relatively late on a Friday night with a big smile and a welcoming voice inviting us to come on in. They were comfortably busy but not crowded with a mix of locals, some more locals and over there a few more locals. BTW I live about two miles away so count me in as one of those locals. We were doted on by more than one staffer, and I'm guessing one of them was an owner. It was like being at your grandmother's house for Thanksgiving dinner. While I could have easily been satisfied with anything on their wide-ranging menu I decided to put them to the acid test. If they could make a real homemade chicken fried steak that didn't taste like something from the frozen section of the supermarket they would pass as being a real true family dining place. Take a look at the picture I took, this is the real deal. A huge piece of meat that is NOT smothered in chicken gravy but rather a thick spoonful in the middle so you can eat the meat without it being swimming in gravy. A realistic sized mound of real mashed potatoes (thank you for not using an ice cream scoop like so many places do). And a half-ear of very fresh tasting corn on the cob. And oh yeah, a side salad that could almost be called lunch size. PROS That word I used earlier, kitschy, yeah maybe but not with a bunch of stuff from a restaurant supply warehouse that only looks old, this stuff really is old. The place is cluttered with it but in this case cluttered is a good thing. There was some clean country music playing (yeah I know, that must have been hard to find) but at a tolerable volume level. The TV's were also turned low enough to be able to have a casual conversation without shouting. And maybe the biggest pro ... the staff is genuinely friendly and caring. CONS Personally I felt the food leaned toward the bland side. That's a tough thing to criticize though because the customer can always add salt and pepper but can't undo an over-spiced meal so I guess I would rather be the one to spice up my meal that an over-zealous chef. Oh yeah, that other big negative about Dirtwater Springs ... oh wait, I don't have any other negatives about this place. read more

Melanie and Tammy are amazing people! Please get the green hatch chili cheese beer dip and the deep fried pickle spears they were to die for. Today was my grandma's 76th birthday and these two ladies made it special. Everything they suggested was great! They also have a full service bar! If you are looking for a nice friendly family environment for dinner and wanting solid meal this is the best. I'm sad we don't live in Arizona or we would be here every week. Where do I start? My husband and I were looking for a decent breakfast place in the Gold Canyon/Apache Junction area so we tried this place. Walking in kinda takes you back to the old west days and not in a good way. We were escorted to the room in the back and seated. Got the menus and ordered our food. My husband ordered the corned beef with scrambled eggs, rye toast and the potatoes that he requested to be crispy. I ordered the regular normal breakfast of two eggs, over medium, fruit, sausage and sour dough toast. After waiting 45 minutes after we put the order in we finally got our cold food. We were two of only 4 other customers when we walked in and they were couples. How long does it take to cook eggs? I can make eggs, toast and potatoes in 15 min or less. His potatoes were not crispy by any means, the only plus he said were there were s few bits of green pepper hanging around the mix so that helped. His hash was clearly from a can and looked not so hot. He got my toast and I got his. My two eggs were very small, the fruit bowl was fruit that had been in that bowl for a few days. Strawberries were dried out and the cantaloupe tasted mushy. My two sausage patties were so thin they looked like a couple of aeriolas. No taste, dried out and flat. My toast after I got the right one was slathered with a margarine spread. It was not real butter. Only one piece of toast cut in half. It definitely was not worth the 25 bucks we spent. I would not recommend this place for breakfast. It is a bar, plain and simple. Maybe had I ordered a couple of cocktails with my breakfast it would have tasted better because I would have been too buzzed to care. DO NOT eat breakfast here. Clearly they make more money pouring drinks than making decent food. If I could give negative stars I would. I can't figure out why it took 45 minutes to get the food delivered to the table. I hate eating cold food when it should be piping hot. We have to start looking for another place because this one we will never go back too. And for all the people who gave it 5 stars must of had a bunch of drinks while waiting, it was not delicious. read more

We've had good meals here and we've had poor meals here. Mostly poor. Despite this being a popular place to eat in town, the food quality is very spotty. Tonight, though was the last straw. We ordered fish and chips on the special. The waitress served the fries cold, the fish was tasteless, and the tartar sauce was runny. The waitress was polite. She did check back; but way too late. I figured I'd just let it go. And I did. Soon, though, the owner or manager stopped at the table and asked how everything was. I said "do you really want me to tell you?" She rolled her eyes and told me to go ahead. As I started listing the issues, she kept interrupting and making excuses. I sad "Well, I guess you don't want to hear about it. You just want to argue about it". She said "We make our own tarter sauce, and sometimes it comes out runny. " Really? And that's just how it is? You just serve it that way anyway? Then she raises her voice and tells me how they have been serving fish forever and they know what they are doing. I wonder if they REALLY know what they are doing. Because what she did by becoming aggressive was lose a customer. There are plenty of other places to spend my money for good food. Dirtwater is off my list. Iris was our server, she did a good job. As for the food, bummer. The wings at over $1 each were dried out little wings that were probably frozen prepared with nothing hot about them. I asked for some sauce because they were dry. I was brought a little dish of what tasted like it came straight from a bottle of Tabasco. It wasn't hot temperature or spice. KFC has better wings.
