One time I totally forgot to feed Hilo breakfast before his early morning groom and tried to buy something real quick when I was checking in and they fed him organic rabbit for free. I use to love their cuts however brought my doodle in for a style cut and she came out buzzed off. On my white paper that I signed I said I wanted her length 5/6 short around the face doodle face. This was on 4/20/24 She shaved off her ears and all her hair ! Came home with a naked doodle. They knew what they did because they just charged me for a buzz cut instead of being honest. Then i decided to come back for a bath today 6/22/2024. I came in for a self wash and a face trim before I could even finish speaking to the groomer she stopped me mid sentence and said "she can't give a face trim because her muzzle Is dirty only her eyes" . I said before when I have come in they always told me to trim before bath. She came off as I was a bother to her so I just groomed my dog and left . The assistant manager was not helpful and did nothing about it . It's sad I'm one of the first customers who ever came To dirty dogs and met the owners back when they first opened and now I will be taking my business elsewhere! Solana beach has gone down in the customer service department. A better response from the groomer would have been "hi I will give your dog a face trim after you bath her not no I can't do it" rude ! This is only for the Solana Beach location. We have gone to the Del Mar location which has been easy and seamless. Made an appointment in the afternoon for a Sunday at 1:30 to get my little cocker mix a buzz cut. We did get there a tad early and were told that the groomer was still at lunch, so that was fine and we waited. While we did we told the team that we also wanted to get our lab mix his nails trimmed and then also do a self-bath. We were told the self-bath would be at least 10 minutes as there were people waiting in front of us (which is fine since I knew the little guy's buzz cut would take some time). So, finally the groomer got back from lunch, we consulted with him regarding hair length (side note he kept saying it was short what could he cut - but we literally have gone to Del Mar numerous times and it's been easy breezy. I had to recommend he check what we have done there - why he could not recommend he do this himself, no idea). In any case, that's not that bad. Finally, he took both dogs in and trimmed Bentley while some Ollie and some other pups were milling around in the room. My boyfriend and I remained in the store waiting for our self-bath and for Bentley. They finished Bentley very quickly and hand him off. Cut to ~1:48 they still have not started on Oliver's buzz and they keep brining OTHER dogs in. As we watch perplexed that our appointment that was made is still not being started, they then take the woman who was in AFTER us to the self-bath. Oliver is extremely stressed out, Bentley is extremely stressed out as we are all waiting to get started on their grooming. After all, we were on time to an appointment that was supposed to start at least 20 minutes ago. Even the woman who got the self-bath noticed us and said - hey, you were here before me. At this point, my boyfriend and I are extremely frustrated at 1:55 as this has been a total waste of time and stress on our pups. I go to the counter and note to the staff working that we were on the list for a self-bath and they did not call my name. They note that they "called" my phone - they didn't "call" a name in the store where EVERYONE is actually waiting for tubs. Call me crazy but it makes more sense to call the name out if customers are waiting and then last resort call a phone. With a staff looking pretty clueless I realize there is no way I want this place putting a razor to my dog. The staff is under-trained - lacking customer service skills. The only exception is an older woman (and I only say older because again, they all seem to be teenagers) who tells them to start calling names out in the store because baths are empty (the team seems to lack this part of critical thinking). At this point, a HALF HOUR after our SCHEDULED appointment that has not started, I ask that they bring me my little Ollie out. That in itself then takes an additional five minutes as they all consult with each other leaving him with them in the room stressed AF - and then they bring him out with out his collar and I have to wait longer. I am literally seething. Overall, what we thought would be a nice chill Sunday Funday of getting our pups groomed and clean ended up being the complete opposite. Our pups were extremely stressed out, my boyfriend and I were extremely frustrated. It actually is also making me re-think the Del Mar location for now. Only time will help me reconsider. read more

Parking: Easy, open, free lot with street parking You get a tub to yourself so you can wash more than one dog at a time. I am not sure what the limit is but I had two with me. They have "seat belts" which are p-loop dog restraints. It was a pretty easy and straightforward process. My only gripe is that the shampoo is not readily available. You have to ask the representative for it. On a busy day, you might not get that shampoo for 5 minutes. The shampoo comes watered down in a squeeze bottle. Other than that, it was a great service. The place itself is actually a pretty good spot besides the poor quality blower heads and the slow draining drains. You have to constantly stop for minutes at a time to wait for the drain to go down and my dog is a short haired lab so hair is not an issue. This negative review is because of poor customer service and bad attitude from a short heavyset male with tattoos who has an attitude like he is too good to work there. And this is the third time in a row that I have been there where I have experienced the same thing from him. I'm not saying I won't come back but if I do and I see him working I will definitely be turning around and heading out that door somewhere else. read more

THANK YOU ALI - Our dog Brody has always been a troublemaker at the groomer. He was banned from Petsmart, and told at many other places that he needs to be drugged and muzzled because of his aggressive tendencies. He's been coming to Dirty Dogs for a while, but our world was changed when he met Ali! We told Ali that Brody usually tried to bite groomers and scratch to get away, so he should probably put a muzzle on him, but Ali assured us that this wouldn't be necessary. Ali said that he grew up raising wild wolves and falcons and knows how to calm aggressive animals. Before the appointment, Brody was very nervous, shaking even, and Ali took off his leash, sat down on the floor, and just pet Brody until he felt at ease. After the appointment, Ali said that Brody was one of the best dogs he's ever had! At first I didn't believe him, but he said that he didn't try to bite him once and didn't even need to be on a leash on the table. Brody's haircut looked amazing and Ali was even able to leave some length around is face and tail after brushing it out! I still can't believe what a great experience Brody had after so many bans and embarrassing experiences at various groomers. I take my samoyed, snowbear, to Megan Still at this dirty dogs location. Prior to meeting Megan, my pup would fight me and did not want to go into the groomer, that all changed with Megan. I always bring my dog to this location especially because it is walking distance from Del Mar dog beach. Just make sure that the paws don't have too much sand on them if you getting your dog's nails filed down. The music hear is great accompaniment to washing my dog in one of their tubs. I think there is a total of 4 or 5. I like the one next to the huge window-- even pre-COVID Passerby like to stop and watch the cute dogs get soapy and pampered by their owners. They have 6 self washing tubs, when we got there 1 tub is available. I love that it's open and you can see the parking lot from the washing station and the outside view. The water is so close from them also. Space is definitely bigger, employees are ok. One was very friendly. The pet owners here don't take much of their time on the tubs, they are quick. The wait time during busy hours maybe less. Plenty of parking space in front of the store. The cleanliness is average. Less products, compare to the other locations. This store is far from where we live, I recommend them if you are closer to Del Mar. This is the second location of dirty dogs that we liked so far. read more

I am sooooo happy with Dirty Dogs! I have never seen my dog so happy coming from a pet salon before! He smelled incredible and he has the shiniest coat I have ever seen on him. Truly, the staff here is amazing and I am so grateful to have brought my little Nugget bear here! On the ride home, he was relaxed and loving life! I will say, it is a little "pricey" compared to other places for a full groom, but it is SO worth it!!! The place is so clean and sanitary. All the dogs are happy and enjoy being there! At other places I had to drop my dog off and pick him up like 4 hours later - not here!!! They were done in an hour!! I had a bad experiences at another local place (Sydnee's Solana Beach - aweful place, never take your dog there it's disgusting). I would definitely recommend going to Ali at the Solana beach Dirty Dogs. He was super friendly and happy and took really good care of my dog. I've got a mini Aus labradoodle and he really knew how to give my dog the perfect puppy (summer) cut. This is long so the the short version is: they shaved my puppy's face and sent her home before doing anything else. It was obvious they didn't want to deal with the level of hair she had. I will not be going back for any reason. I really loved coming here to buy my puppy treats, food, etc. The folks behind the counter were always incredibly friendly and helpful. They never failed to offer suggestions and give my puppy a treat and a little cuddle. So of course I wanted to take them up on their "puppy package" for her first professional wash/haircut. To be fair, we have a 5 month old Sheepadoodle who is too playful for her own good. We did not brush her enough in the first few months because, well, we didn't know how much she needed it. So naturally she was matted around her face. I knew this when I took her in. Now, on the day of the appointment the groomer called us and asked us to come an hour earlier for whatever reason. We needed a haircut that day so we just adjusted to the new time. But still, we adjusted to their request. So when we get there the groomers face was all twisted up when she saw my shaggy dog. I remember the conversation like this: Her: okay, wow she is so matted. Have you ever brushed her? Me: yes but not as much as we should. Her: brushing her is going to take way too long today. I'm glad you're here early. Me: I don't expect you to brush her. Can you just wash her and trim her face and nails? Her: that's not what we usually do. I need to brush her before washing. And then her blow dry...ugh... Me: Don't blow dry her. Well we like her shaggy anyway, can you skip brushing her? Her: okay I'll do my best but it's not going to look like a typical doodle cut So I leave and go to the cafe. 20 minutes later they call me and say "your dog is not cooperating and biting us. Even with one person holding her down I can't groom her." She gave us 2 options but ultimately I chose to pick up the puppy considering she just told me they were holding her down. When I arrived all I could do was laugh because my dog looked ridiculous. Half of her snout was SHAVED and that was it. I probably shouldn't have tried to negotiate how they do their grooming BUT I expected an experienced groomer to have either a) been upfront what she couldn't do or b) not started with shaving the face? Either way, it was obvious the groomer simply didn't want to deal with my dogs hair. We took her to Alcala afterwards and they cleaned her up for us without issue. We won't be patrons of Dirty Dogs for any reason in the future. Brush your doodle and told take them here for the puppy package. read more

We always come here after the dog beach. It takes 10 minutes max to rinse all the sand off Saffi, shampoo and condition her fur, and blow dry her. She's so soft afterwards and smells so good! The Dirty Dogs crew is there to offer grooming tips and help if needed and to clean up afterwards so we can get Saffi's clean body home. We always get her a treat on the way out the door, too. The staff allowed my dog to choke herself to the point of her tongue turning completely purple, her eyes going bloodshot, and expressing her anal gland all over herself. No one stopped to consider the safety or wellbeing of my sweet, anxious dog until it could have been too late. All of this over trying to complete a nail trim. I don't usually write reviews, but this one seems necessary. I've been taking my dog to various Dirty Dogs and Meow locations for a little over a year now. I usually have a good experience with the staff there, never any issues, but for some reason today was different. I took my dog in for a self wash, then asked for her nails to be trimmed. The staff took her back and I could hear her barking and whimpering. I pulled the manager aside and informed them that if the nail trim could not be completed, I was okay with that. A short time later one of the staff brought my dog out to me and informed me that although 2 other staff members were assisting, none of them noticed my dog was choking herself to the point where her tongue had turned completely purple, her eyes were bloodshot, and she expressed her anal gland all over herself. I immediately talked to the manager, who pulled in the other staff members into this conversation. I was not looking for a refund, but an explanation for how this could have occurred. I wanted to know why my distressed dog was not pulled out of the appointment immediately, before she could have choked to death. No one could offer an explanation for why 3 different staff members allowed my dog to go through this. I do not believe that the staff are ill-intentioned, but I do know what happened today is completely unacceptable. read more
