I sold a vinyl record on Discogs and used Paypal as the means of being paid. The record cost 29 euros. Shipping was 17 euros. Tax was 4.75, so the purchase total was 50.75 euros and the purchaser sent this in good faith. From this I had 2.83 deducted as Discogs' 9% fee. So far so good. However, I only received 38.16 euros. Paypal indicates that a staggering 9.76 euros has been deducted in addition in the concept of a "Partner fee". This is more than 21%; with the previous fee it is 25%. This is totally abusive. In the first place, it is arbitrary and unannounced. How do I know what price to charge if Discogs are going to charge me 21% more without warning? I am no longer going to deal with them. They use dishonest business practices and the internet is full of angry sellers saying the same thing. read more

I love discogs. That said, if there is a filter for unofficial releases, shouldn't there be a filter for official releases? Some bands have 10x the amount of boots than legit releases and it becomes cumbersome searching through catalogs. Especially since you can't purchase boots on discogs. read more

Website frequently down. Login issues documented extensively online. Administrators don't respond. Then there's the discogs marketplace which is a snakepit of shady or clueless sellers who misrepresent --or don't know how to grade -- items they are selling. Feedback is not helpful because scammers know how to get negative feedback removed and then leave negative feedback for buyers who complain! Administrators won't help. eBay is much more reliable because feedback can only be left for sellers. eBay also seems to have enough staff to be able to intervene and fix problems read more

I used this service twice to order two disks form separate vendors, on the same day from locations that were close geographically. This was on 12/22, one order was received promptly and the other I finally contacted on 1/12 to ask where the package was, the USPS tracking info ended on 1/03, the response I received was this: Brian, Hi. How's it going? I am not the United States Post Office. You paid for media mail. We shipped it media mail. Media mail is the slowest...most agonizingly slow...egregiously slow service that the USPS provides. I recently just received a package I ordered on December 4th. That's over a month. I also got a package in three days from across the country. USPS, because of Covid and the holidays and the fact that they're understaffed...is a mess. Be patient. There's literally nothing I can do or ask of the USPS to get your CD to you faster. Literally nothing. I can call and they will laugh at me. Here's what it says on USPS website... "ALERT: USPS IS EXPERIENCING UNPRECEDENTED VOLUME INCREASES AND LIMITED EMPLOYEE AVAILABILITY DUE TO THE IMPACTS OF COVID-19. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE." See that part at the end? That's the important part. Follow that part. I bet you get your package soon as USPS is starting to pick up as far as getting their shit together goes. But, yeah, be patient. While this is factually correct one can see the clear condescension and sarcasm in the response, subsequent responses were worse especially when I noted the other order was received promptly and for 50 cents left. I was insultingly given a 50-cent refund, Having worked for a mail order restoration car parts company and managing a technical support call center I can assure you the level of customer support these people provided was pathetic, The final straw was when they removed my comment that I poster on the vendors site for inappropriate content. Discogs looked like a great alternative to buying music from Amazon, so I thought I would try it. There is lots of good music and there are a lot of great sellers. I fell into a trap though, and I am sharing it here. My autofill put in an old shipping address and discogs does not allow any corrections after you select your purchase. No way to cancel the order either. And as a newbie buyer I also could not see a way to communicate with the Seller. After I got threatening (!) e-mails from Discogs I finally figured out how to send a message to the Seller so hopefully I can get the order cancelled (I bought from a different Seller because I could not revise the first order). I don't understand why all this negativity. It looks like the other people leaving reviews are upset because they don't know how to do anything. I barely have a high school education and I could figure out how to message a seller, and of course, there's plenty of sellers on here that are jerks, but most of them, if you don't expect too much, are pleasant enough to deal with. You find a CD, you check the sellers' feedback, examine it, and then buy from them and you probably will receive what you ordered. If not, you can try to negotiate with the seller and if they don't want to bother, you can always open a PayPal dispute, although that usually results in the seller leaving you negative feedback, based on my observations, but my buyer feedback is 98.7%, partly my own fault, because I set my expectations of myself and others way too high, and don't always do the best job at communicating. It should be noted that Discogs support is minimal and they don't get involved in disputes between buyer-seller/seller-buyer, which I appreciate, because we, as people, should be able to interact with some degree of civility and goodness and if both the buyer and seller do so, generally, the seller and buyer will both benefit. Not always, of course...if you order from a seller overseas, depending on the seller and what you ordered from them, they may expect you to return the item and not be willing to reimburse you for postage, regardless of the reason you returend the item (which makes sense in cases of buyer remorse but when you're promised a NM/NM vinyl or CD, sometimes it's treated as if it's buyers remorse unless the vinyl or CD is virtually unplayable). Anyway, you just gotta know how to read and follow instructions. Add to cart, checkout/pay, and wait for your item to arrive. Hopefully that'll be the end of it. If not, you may lose out, but, conversely, from the selling end, their fees are the lowest of any selling platform which means I can sell stuff for a reasonable sum of money (like $2 or $3 + $5 for shipping etc.) and not be left with only two or three dimes to show for it (Amazon, cough cough). read more

Discriminatory, especially Alex at Discogs, siding with bigger sellers who cancel their orders for no reason and incorrectly mark it "out of stock" even though they clearly had the record in their possession. Discogs allows bigger sellers to behave however they want, they automatically remove negative feedback for them, and they don't care about fairness when a smaller or newer customer gets screwed. read more
