I visited Discount Kar Kare in Lewisville on June 3, 2026 to redeem a Groupon for a routine oil change. Instead of performing the service, I was told my vehicle required additional work, including an engine flush ($189) and a coolant flush ($99), before any oil change could be completed. I was informed the oil change would not be performed unless I agreed to these additional services. During the inspection, I was told (by Jeff) the oil was "black and sluggish," the coolant reservoir was empty, and that my brake fluid was low and my oil change interval had been exceeded. I questioned this because my last oil change was on January 17, 2026 at 118,985 miles, and my vehicle had 126,391 miles at the time of service--about 7,406 miles driven. This is still within Toyota's recommended 10,000-mile oil change interval under normal conditions. I also noted that the windshield oil change sticker reflected a lower mileage interval based on a prior shop's recommendation, not Toyota's manufacturer guidance. After leaving, I obtained a second opinion from another repair shop, which confirmed that a standard oil change was appropriate and that no engine flush or coolant flush was necessary. The coolant was simply topped off after cooling. I was also advised that a coolant flush would not be the correct solution if there is a suspected leak, as it does not address the underlying issue. Regarding brake fluid, I was informed that this system is sensor-monitored and would trigger a dashboard warning if levels were actually low. Overall, I found the experience concerning, as the additional services recommended were not aligned with manufacturer guidance or the second professional opinion. It also gave the impression that the situation was being used as an opportunity to upsell services and potentially avoid honoring the Groupon oil change as advertised. A formal complaint has been filed with the Better Business Bureau and the Texas Attorney General's Office (Case No. TCP-046644). 2 1/2 years ago I gave this place 5 stars. Business was sold and new owner and employees now. I have had work done on my car previously and I purchased 4 tires from Joe a year ago, only drove 9,000 miles and noticed my 2 front tires are pretty worn out. I went to a tire shop to have my tires rotated to the back and was told they are at a level 2 and not safe to use even in the back. I was told that on a Honda Pilot, the tire should last 30-35,000 miles and a lousy no brand one should at least last 20-25,000 miles. Avoid This Place - Dishonest and Deceptive Practices My wife trusted Discount Kar Kare in Lewisville, TX to repair her 2021 VW Atlas--and unfortunately, that trust was completely misplaced. We've brought the vehicle to them on multiple occasions, and each time they claimed to have run diagnostics that uncovered more issues. Altogether, they quoted over $16,000 in repairs. We filed claims with our auto warranty company, who made it clear they just needed proper documentation: diagnostic reports, labor hours, parts lists, etc.--or a direct call from the mechanic. A bunch of liars and scammers. I've taken my car here for my past two oil changes because they offer a cheap Groupon. I found them via a Groupon for a synthetic oil change. They informed you that you are still subject to tax and filter which I anticipated because most Groupons at auto care spots are like that. Joe and Ray took care of me quick. They were very responsive and hospitable. The lobby was a little chilly I don't know if they had the heater kicked on or not but outside of that everything else was fine. Offering free snacks and drinks and coffee while I wait I grabbed some Ritz crackers and water just because I've never had an auto shop offer snacks like that. They had coffee and tea too. This organization should be ashamed of itself. There is clearly a pattern of dishonesty with these guys and my experience echoes that of many others. I went in for an oil change as I was in the area and found that they had a Groupon available. Immediately upon getting my vehicle pulled in they come to me insisting that they cannot perform an oil change on my vehicle as a liability concern. According to them I had and oil leak in three places and it was so bad that it would cost $1400 to repair but luckily for me they had financing available. I simply left, got my Groupon refunded and went to another shop and got my oil change. I knew it was complete bs as I get regular consistent maintenance on my vehicle. Including having had a transmission flush a couple months ago and had just had my alternator replaced a few days before coming in for the oil change. How would it even be possible that I'd have an oil leak that was so bad it would cost over a thousand dollars to repair but not a single one of the mechanics/shops that has serviced my vehicle before or after them found any evidence of such leak. I went in for a wheel alignment and was told I needed to change my front wheel bearings. I told him I would come back in a week or so to get it done and I was quoted a price. So I came back that next week 1/2 and i told the manager the price that Joe quoted me. He said okay, no problem. So I get the wheel bearings done and an oil change. When my car was done my total was not the price I was quoted, in fact I was charged $200 dollars more for the front wheel bearings . (Remind you Throughout the service, the manager never came to me and said it's going to be more than what we quoted you) . When I asked the manager why was it so much more than I was quoted. I was told the dealership changes its prices on parts, which I was unaware of and was told I was being charged for another wheel alignment (which I had already paid for up to 6 months of alignments last week) which i told him. Hmm where do I start? The lies and deception? Or the lengths they'll go to cover their a$$ AND deny accountability when called out? I've visited maybe 3x over the past 2 years and the third time is always a charm. I went in for an oil change (as I always do) and an alignment. I was told by Joe that my mounts were completely cooked. Believable for a 6 year old car? Sure. But I knew the moment I denied his pressuring advances to order the parts through them right then & there, that it wasn't a good move. Not only did I find cheaper options literally everywhere else, but he continued to push financing and leaving the car overnight to further egg on a sale of some sort. I told him I was fine to wait and get a second opinion before rashly buying parts. Sure enough, there was nothing wrong with my mounts at all and get this -- the alignment that I'd already paid for was never done and the oil change was short 2 quarts. Mind you, they sell you a good dream on Groupon, but when you get there, it's pretty much higher than any other place you could go to.
