The bathroom and sink area did not seem as clean and modern as the rest of the space, but otherwise, the room was more than sufficient and quite beautiful. Wooden flooring and ceiling, great lighting, hangers, comfy bed, bedside outlets, flat screen TV, extra seats, temperature control (cooling/heating), hair dryer, and small fridge. No microwave in the room, but there are a couple available for use at the front office. Service at check-in wasn't exactly fast or efficient, but it was fine. Parking lot was pretty full when we returned late on a Saturday night, but luckily one spot left. Also, Safeway is around the corner for convenience, and the beach less than a 5-minute drive away. Good experience overall.

This hotel was okay. The room itself was nice. It's been refurbished in the last year. Management is not good. We stayed here in 2018 and the team was really nice. We were disappointed to find new management had taken over. There are no microwaves in the room (the owner said that there was 1 incident with a homeless individual apparently at another hotel and that's why they don't give any of their guests microwaves ‍). There is a microwave in the lobby but the hours are 9am-9pm. I've never heard of a lobby opening that late. And the one morning we were up late enough to use it, the lobby was not actually open (it was after 9am and should have been) and so the owner who was cleaning stopped and brought us in to the storage room with all the towels and washers to use that microwave Why? We had to stand around in the dirty room making small talk while our food warmed up. There is also no way to contact them other than the lobby. If you need extra towels or toilet paper outside of 9am-9pm you're out of luck. No phones in the room. No emergency number. Nothing. The room had a small fridge, wifi, and A/C. There are really no extra amenities at all but they do have the basics. There's parking and it's clean.

This is probably the worst hotel I have ever stay at. The first issue was the guy at the check in counter, he was very rude when me and my friends tried to check in and pay for our room. We were confused and wanted to get some clarification on the deposit. The second thing was the room had a weird smell. We paid a little over 500 for two nights and I am not happy with this place. The room is small, the fridge is located in the bathroom, we had a plastic cup to get a few ice, and the sheets were so thin. Not to mention the pillows look a bit yellow..... I would never come back to this horrible place. Not to mention THEY TOOK OUT 200 DOLLARS FOR THE DEPOSITE! THIS WAS NEVER MEMTIONED TO US AND IT TAKE UP TO 3 WEEKS FOR THE REFUND!! I do jot understand this "policy" they have and not inform their customers. I really wish I can give it zero stars. EDIT: There are black spiders in this hotel!!

    Poop on toilet paper

Terrible room, we got one room, heater when turned on smelled like mold, and room smelled like fabulous cleaner and didn't flush - no water would push it down but the bowl would rise. when we got there. Great layout to fit 6 people. But when we came back from dinner the toilet was flooded and overflowing on the floor. They gave us another room and they were reaking of cleaner. The toilet paper actually had poop on it. Like come on at least replace with new toilet paper. Please do not come here unless you bring your own bedding and like the knowledge that they are hiding mold here probably.

My husband and I stayed here a couple weekends ago. We had a pretty decent experience at this hotel. We were looking for something affordable but not too low quality or cheap and scary. We found this hotel for about $80. We knew we would be out all day at the aquarium, and cannery row so there was no need to get something super nice or spend $150 for the average chain hotels. We arrived early with our 4 month old baby. As we entered into the parking lot we were pleasantly surprised at how cute the place was. We asked to check in early but they said the room was not ready and to come back in an hour. As we waited in the car trying to figure out where to go eat, the man signaled to us that we could check in after waiting maybe 5-10 min. We were very grateful for this! Upon entering the hotel room, it was clean and cozy! The bathroom was very dated and cold but otherwise the room was cozy! At night the walls were super thin so we could clearly here our neighbors which made it hard to sleep. The bed wasn't comfortable. There was no microwave to heat up our food. The iron had to be picked up at the front desk. At the end of the day this hotel did the job, It provided us a place to sleep that wasn't scary and that was affordable. We were out all day and were only there for one night to sleep, wake up, and head out the next day. If we wanted to spend more time in the hotel or stay longer, we would probably choose something a little more comfortable with a few more amenities. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and the friendly hellos and smiles from the staff! I'd recommend for anyone who will be out and about, busy and not staying long or desiring to lounge around and relax.

I have mixed feelings about our two night stay in Room 117 (the two room suite configuration). At check-in, we were charged up front for both nights. When I questioned this, the nice owner of Indian descent said that is how they do it. I was a bit taken aback, but went with the flow. The room was, for the, most part, very pleasant and large. But, it was a bit dated. The plug-in refrigerator worked very well. Unfortunately, there is a developing mold problem in the bathroom. If you are given 117 I'd take a look before paying. Now the issues which caused me to lower the rating from a 3 (average) to 2 (below average) rating. We are here mid-week (Tues and Wed night) as we are touring the Monterey Bay area and CSUMB. Based on the cars in the lot, there may be three or four rooms reserved. We rented a convertible and wanted to take the 17-mile drive on our last day before heading up the coast. I asked for a late check out to 1pm so that we could store our luggage so we could lower the top of the convertible. The owner didn't even consider my request and said he needs to turn the room for a family. Granted, if check in is at 4pm, that would give them a full three hours to turn the room. Then I asked if we could have our luggage stored and he simply said 'no.' That's a shame, because we now must find alternate plans for the day. What irks me about this is the lack of customer service on such a simple request. There are 10, maybe 12 vacant rooms, and we can't store our luggage for two hours? We treated this gent nicely, and gave a daily generous tip to the cleaning crew. We had very nice conversations during our morning visits to get the complimentary coffee and danish. So, I'd have to disagree with the rudeness comments left in other reviews. But, unfortunately, there was no reciprocity. The owner is simply not very customer service-oriented. I will likely be returning often to the area if my kid attends CSUMB; I'll have to choose another motel in the future. Update: we drove to a nearby hotel and the front desk manager without hesitation very kindly offered to store our luggage. We enjoyed the 17-mile drive with the top down! I know where I'm staying next time. The initials are ES (a Hilton property).

Our toilet didn't flush well and they said to hold the handle down a few seconds- that made the water quickly rise to the top. I assume it was a clog from the previous guest. My bed was comfortable and renovation fortunately wasn't overly disruptive on the noise front. We didn't use any of the amenities but the hotel was in a decent location in terms of distance to point of interest. There was a tent popped up right behind the walkway to the marsh area though. If you just need a place to shut your eyes, this was a decent option.

Picture this: Thanksgiving leftovers are gone, everyone's off work for a few days, and boredom kicks in. So naturally we decided to take an impromptu road trip up the California coast on a holiday weekend with ZERO reservations. Yes. That was our brilliant plan. To be fair, we knew exactly what we were getting ourselves into. Hotel availability would be about as scarce as the leftovers back at home. But honestly? The adventure was the point. We ended up booking this hotel with a "standard room" while sitting in a restaurant eating dinner. My husband kept saying, "It's just one night. BOOK IT" and so I did. When we arrived, the woman at the front desk was incredibly kind and welcoming. She let us know they only had one room left and the bed was a full-size instead of a queen or king. I frowned and my husband gave me the universal exhausted husband look of, I truly do not care, I need sleep. The front desk agent even offered to let us look at the room first and said if we didn't like it, we could cancel with no penalty. That alone was appreciated. Now, I'm not going to lie the setup gave very classic roadside motel vibes. Open walkways, doors facing outside, the kind of place where someone could walk right up from the street to your room. I did my little internal cringe...but I knew Mr. Sleepy Pants wanted to sleep. We checked out the room, accepted our fate, and stayed. The room itself was actually very clean and comfortable. It had both a fridge and microwave, which was a nice surprise. I also asked for extra blankets because even at home in our king size bed we somehow fight like survivalists over blanket territory, and she happily gave us plenty. There was also a small concession area with snacks, which was convenient after a long drive. At the end of the day, if you're passing through and just need a clean, comfy place to sleep for the night, I honestly see nothing wrong with this property. Sometimes road trips aren't about luxury they're about the memories you laugh about later.

Hotel staff were very friendly and professional. This time we had the oceanfront room with the sofa bed. Beautiful views, of course, from the balcony. The room was clean, however there is an ant problem in the bathroom. It was not too bad, but we still weren't thrilled to see an ant here and there crawling on our things in the bathroom. It is strange that they use cloth shower curtains, so every time you take a shower they get soaked. Some toiletries are provided, but not as many as they used to. They used to give lotion, shower caps, shower gel, etc. Now it's just bar of soap, shampoo and conditioner. The bathroom is nice, though, with double sinks. Sofa bed worked out great for our 8 year old. She said it was comfortable, and we were also comfortable in the king size bed, which had a firm mattress. It can get noisy in the room with the balcony door open due to the seals and seagulls, but closing the door blocks most of the sound. We kept it open in the day and shut it when we went to bed. Breakfast - well, I guess you can't really complain too much when it's complimentary with the room, but it's really nothing to write home about. Hard boiled eggs, fruit plate, yogurt, and some muffins. Me, being a diabetic, I couldn't really eat any of it, except the eggs. Our daughter enjoyed it, though she is pretty easygoing. We had been hoping to save some money by eating breakfast at the hotel but we ended up eating breakfast out every day we were there. The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. They were put out around 3:00 p.m., but they disappeared almost immediately because they were so popular. When we arrived, our room temperature was around 78°F. We called the front desk to ask about the A/C and were told someone would come up. Security arrived and explained that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, so the options are to use the fan or open the balcony door. It would have been helpful if the front desk had shared that information when we called. We left the screened balcony door open while we were out the next day, and the room cooled down nicely. The only other thing we wished the room had was a microwave. Overall, these were very minor issues compared to everything we loved about our stay. The location, views, comfortable rooms, and outstanding customer service made for a wonderful experience.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a warm charm that made it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city. One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.
