The room was sparkling clean and well appointed. They have worked hard on beautifying the landscape and the rooms themselves. The staff is very attentive and kind. We feel like this is a gem in the Monterey area with reasonable rates and mid century charm. This was our third stay there and when we return to Monterey we will stay there again. read more

Love this place! Just got home today and already looking at my calendar to book another stay! Our room was immaculate! So squeaky clean- and I do mean clean! Beautiful decor--Nice dark wood furniture, beautifully painted walls accompanied with great quality carpet! Fridge was a good size (not a basic mini fridge), taller, fits plenty food for several days if needed. The microwave, looked new--great quality as well! I loved how the appliances matched the decor very well The sink was sparkling clean with an amazing stylish looking mirror! It was simply pretty. I love that there was a built-in soap dispenser right there too! The bath/shower was simply beautiful! Clean, sparkling clean! Pretty double white shower curtains. I have to add, the soap, body wash and shampoo dispensers were very pretty too, very classy looking-- real "penthouse " look! I love that the washcloths were displayed in a "floral" style-fold!! I wish I took a pic to share! Trust me- it was cute, even the tissue in the dispenser had a cute floral decorative look to it as well! Wow!! I was just so impressed with the detail that went into the room! Very cozy home appeal! Nice job Seaside Inn! :) Wifi was great! Also, I was so thrilled with their TV channel line up- they offered so many channels to choose from! Free! Absolutely disgusting and unsafe. If I could leave zero stars I would. We checked in to our room and immediately noticed the back door to the patio was unlocked and there were beer bottles with a ton of cigarettes left out there. The bed was covered in stains, clearly had not been cleaned. We asked for a refund and were only refunded 2 of our 3 nights since we had already checked in even though we were there less than 10 minutes. We have stayed in some pretty run down hotels/motels but this was truly the worst of the worst for us. read more

We booked this spot for an overnight girls trip. There was 6 people in our group and they comfortably fit in the room we got. There was 2 stories to this inn and 2 rooms separated by a little kitchen area. There is a heater but the heat is only in the first room, it won't make its way to the back room. 2 tvs in the room that was not necessary. The second tv did not have good cable management. The hair dryer had its own place on the wall in the bathroom but the cord didn't have a wrapping tie so the cord will get in the way if it's not plugged in. The tissue box is in the wall, there is a little door where the small tissue box is placed inside. This isn't very convenient for people that need to use a tissue in the bedroom. Only 1 mirror in the bathroom, I would suggest adding another one above the sink in the kitchen area. Breakfast is coffee, juice, cereal, waffles, yogurt, fruit, instant oatmeal, eggs (we didn't see since we went to breakfast close to the end), milk, almond milk and instant hot chocolate. read more

Had a stay here for two nights. There are two sides for this motel, one side that had only one floor of rooms and another side that had two floors. I stayed in the side with one floor and my friends stayed on the side with two floors and it seems like YMMV here. In my room, I found it surprisingly very clean (cleaner than a lot of other hotels I've stayed at previously), the A/C-Heater worked great, great water pressure, nice mirror, the bed was actually very comfortable (though the pillows could be better) and there was an available microwave! My friends stayed on the two floor side and they had a really loud fridge, could hear the road, could hear everybody walking upstairs etc. The parking lot was also very small, though when we stayed we always found a spot to park. read more

We reserved a stay at the Seaside Inn Seaside for Saturday, May 29 2021. It's sad to me that the owners of this hotel can repeatedly treat customers in an horrible manner whenever they feel like it. They have zero consequences simply because of where they are located. They will never have poor business until someone can truly hold them accountable for their astounding rudeness, lack of cleanliness, or even a remote sense of consideration for their paying guests. If I could give zero stars I would. My husband and I made a reservation based on the ratings. (I have no idea how they are managing to get such good ones). We get into our room and the first thing we notice is the fire alarm is chirping because the battery is low. Then I see the bedspread. There was a white stain on it (I included pictures). I inspected the rest of the room and found it really hadn't been cleaned. I wasn't feeling well, and was very tired. I went to tell the front desk about the condition of the room. There was a thick glass partition, and the receptionist was wearing a mask. I couldn't understand or hear him and ended up yelling at him to please come clean the room (which I apologized for right after). We told him we were going to get something to eat and he said he'd take care of it but when we came back 3 hours later nothing had been done. Since I was still cranky I sent my hubby to go talk to the front desk. My husband came back to tell me the receptionist said the room was as clean as it was going to get, that they didn't wash the comforters every day, that there was nothing he could do about the smoke alarm because maintenance had left. When we said we wouldn't pay $200 for a dirty room with a faulty smoke alarm, the receptionist refused to give us a refund. So I told him we'd call the credit card company to cancel the charges and the hotel would be getting an insanely bad review. By this time there was another man at the front desk and he was just smiling (he didn't have on a mask but was also behind the glass partition) and shrugging at me, telling me they didn't care, I could do what I wanted. It's very surreal and absolutely unbelievable. Interesting enough, a day later they DID reverse the charges before we could contact the credit card company. I read a couple other reviews just now (that I wish I'd seen before we booked this place) that explains a similar attitude towards customers. I'm thinking that they just don't care if they anger a few people a year because it doesn't seem to affect their business much. It's sad and disappointing to see people behave like this. read more

Stayed here for 5 days with my wife and it was a perfect location for visiting Santa Cruz. We could walk to downtown and even to the boardwalk. Lots of good food places nearby. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the management is extremely friendly and helpfully. We will stay here again when we return to Santa Cruz. read more

This was the worst customer service experience I've ever had at a hotel. I was in town on a work trip, and basically just needed a place to sleep. I got to the hotel and checked in at 10pm. When I check in, the person that checked me in gave me the key to someone else's room, so I walked in on a family as they were getting ready for bed. Initially, I wasn't upset because mistakes happen and I understand that. So they give me a new room, and the moment that I walk into the room, I smell smoke. I get migraines anytime I stay in smoking rooms. I go to the bathroom, and the sink is clogged and doesn't drain. So I call the front desk and ask to switch rooms, and literally the first thing out of the hotel managers mouth is "I can cancel and you can find a new hotel". Absolutely no attempt to fix the issue, the answer for her was to make me leave. It's 10pm, I just spent the entire day working and I just want to get some sleep, not spend it packing up, and searching for a new hotel. I find out that there are no other rooms available, which I understand, there's nothing you can do if there's no other rooms available. But I paid for a non smoking room, and what I received was a smoking room with a sink that doesn't drain. I'm such a cheap dude, I would have happily taken a discount and just stayed where I was, but her solution for me was to find another hotel because "she knows she can get this room booked". She said that to me, verbatim. No empathy, no attempt to work on a resolution. So some poor sap would have also booked a room at this hotel, just to find that their room is inundated with smoke and has a non-functioning drain. I don't take well to being pushed around like this hotel manager tried to. And I would have had no problem if the hotel manager would have shown some empathy, calmly explained that this was the last room available, and offered some sort of compensation, and AS A LAST RESORT, give me the option to cancel my room if I'm still not satisfied. I am one of the least confrontational people alive, and I avoid conflict wherever possible, but to be treated with such disrespect by the manager of the hotel was just unacceptable. I'm sure the hotel is fine under normal circumstances, but if there are any issues that ever arise during your stay with them, or if you have to interact with the staff at all, don't expect help. Expect to be treated disrespectfully and as an annoyance. Maybe you can even get lucky enough for the hotel manager to tell you to find a new hotel. read more

I'm not a fan of writing negative Yelp reviews, but I need to warn other people off this place as it was the worst nights sleep- oh wait! I didn't sleep.. The hotel room didn't smell like smoke to me so I am giving it two stars just because with this sort of place I am surprised and that was what made me stay instead of asking for a refund and going elsewhere. But believe me it all went downhill from there. Don't believe the photos you see online- the rooms has nasty old carpet and it's just a yucky motel room with paper thin walls and windows. The parking lot is too small to fit all the cars and the street outside is super SKETCHY! There are a ton of homeless people sleeping next to the hotel just waiting for a car to be left on the street. They only give you two tiny horrible mounds of rock that are supposed to be pillows. The bed is a slab of granite. It was so painful to lay on. I had a super long day at my very physical job and it actually hurt me worse to lay on this mattress. There was no blanket on the bed- only a sheet and a super thin decorative covering.. you know the ones that never get washed and you pull off before you go to sleep on a hotel bed. So I only had a sheet to sleep with and it's cold in Monterey. The bathroom is clean and the water is hot but they only give you ONE tiny scratchy towel. If you need to dry your hair or there are two of you, you are out of luck. All this sucked but the epic part was the homeless people camping out behind my room. About midnight they began to scream and fight and it went on for so long, escalating to the point I thought someone was getting murdered. Finally I called the police who came by and broke it up.. only for it all to start again once they left. I went downstairs to ask for earplugs, another towel, and an extra pillow. I was told they didn't have earplugs and because it was 1am they didn't have any extra pillows or anything else that I would imagine any sensible hotel would keep in the office. If you have a homeless encampment next door and the walls are so thin you can hear your neighbors breathing, I would think a bucket of earplugs would be a smart thing to have to improve your star rating. I mean how hard is it to just have an extra pillow or towel or blanket?? It seems like all they care about is keeping costs as low as possible. I barely slept the whole night. Even for $100 this was a really bad experience. At the very least you expect to be able to sleep. And simple amenities would go a long way for this place. Also don't lie in the photos used to market the hotel. That is terrible business practice! read more

It's a solid place for the price. We stayed over the July 4 weekend, so prices were higher. The bedspreads were the only real weakness here--still have some cigarette burns in them--but our non-smoking room did not smell of smoke, which was good. Bathroom was clean, carpet was clean, neighbors were quiet. (Maybe the higher prices that people are complaining about are keeping out the riffraff? Something to think about when considering price.) I felt safe there with my child. Our customer service experience was fine, what you would expect for a motel in this range. When I needed an extra blanket, I had no trouble getting one. The hotel is near McDonald's Starbucks, Panera Bread, Wing Stop, Panda Express, a Cost-Plus World Market, a Lucky's, a Target, and more. There's a nice, if a bit pricey, breakfast place within a five-minute drive, but a McDonald's Big Breakfast is under $7 and you can do well at Starbucks for less than $10. Of course, if you want to splurge, there are some great restaurants in Carmel, only a 15-20 minute drive away. Would be a fine place to stay again. read more

I think I've probably stayed at worse hotels, but I'm sure I've never felt more ripped off. With its tiny size, dirty carpet (don't believe the pictures showing wood flooring--which is what sold me), defective towel rack (that fell of the wall with its two small, scratch towels), and view of a gas station next to a majorly busy road, this is was a $60 a night room. Your typical Super 8 would be step up. I paid $359! Granted, it was near (not to be confused with in) Monterey, so maybe $100 won't be outrageous. And this was Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, so I'll give it $150 market rate. But $359 for this dump that I was embarrassed to have brought my girlfriend to?! Overpriced and beyond tired. Maybe it was because I got a dog friendly room? Frayed carpeting, scratches on furniture but the tipping point was the DIRTY windows. I specifically wanted a room with a great view which this purported to be. Yes it might have been alright if the windows had been cleaned in the last year or so. Said windows were unbelievably covered in dirt and bird poop. I could have done with all the other shortcomings if I'd been able to see out the windows. Don't stay here if you need hypo-allergenic bedding and towels. Not only were the sheets and towels washed in a perfumey detergent or fabric softener, but they must not have been rinsed properly, as it took me 12 rinses to get the perfumey "fresh" smell out of the washcloth before I could use it, and even then it was quite irritating to my skin. Also, the sheets and pillowcases are too small for the mattress and pillows, they don't completely cover, so that one risks touching the (extremely cheap and crummy) bare mattress or bare pillows where a prior guest's feet or face were. I'm too OCD to deal with that. And to top it all off, the sheets and pillowcases are NOT 100% cotton. Lastly, the bathroom counter is too small to be useful for two, the sink is not separate from the toilet room, and there's no breakfast or AAA discount. These last three things I can handle, they're reasonable given the cheap price, but not the bedding and towels. I wouldn't stay here again. read more

We drove down from the Bay Area without realizing it was a weekend during a convention. Felt lucky to get a room; however we were shocked at the immoral hotel gauging we experienced! We paid a whopping $292 (basically $300 a night) in a s--t hole of a hotel! Small "full size" bed, hard as a rock and they don't even supply a sample size shampoo-just 2 small scraps of hand soap. Don't do it. Sure, it looks like it would be okay. It's close by Monterey, it's cheap (ish), it's obviously not The Ritz, but hey... you're only going to be staying one night. Seriously though, just don't. There are much MUCH better options even closer to Monterey for the same price! This place was just completely unacceptable. The room that we paid $107.00 for stank. I mean it literally reeked. In addition, the comforter on the bed was filthy. It was covered in numerous stains. Disgusting. So bad that I wouldn't even sit on it. I immediately went to the front desk to get a full refund. The receptionist at the front desk was extremely unhelpful. My wife and I eventually convinced her to refund our room (after a great deal of unpleasantness), but we were traveling with my parents, and she refused to refund theirs. I had to call Hotels.com customer support in order to get a refund for the 2nd room! She told us she couldn't refund the 2nd room because all of her rooms were completely booked for the night. It made no sense. I still don't know what she was talking about. After Hotels.com took care of the refund for us, we managed to book a room at the Stagecoach Lodge in Monterey proper. For only $15 more per night, the Stagecoach is a MAJOR upgrade over the Seaside. The point being, there are much better options out there, so just don't do it. read more

Very Good "budget" inn. I think one of the best things I can say about this place is that the floors are clean (I can walk barefoot around the room!). The room and bathroom are also clean. The bed and pillows are comfortable and the inn is very quiet. There is a mini-fridge and microwave in the room, as well as a hair dryer, iron/board, etc. The parking lot is well lit so I wasn't worried about any funny business. Breakfast is limited to packaged danishes and coffee, which is all I really want anyways. The owner and family are cordial. I deducted a star for the following reasons: 1) The sink and tub back up with water. Need to get the drain-o going on those! 2) The bathroom has a somewhat musty odor. The odor either comes from the ventilation or the shower curtain, not sure. These problems were minimal and my girlfriend said she didn't even notice the odor. She did notice the ventilation system isn't very strong, though. I'm sure these problems will be fixed, and when they are, I'd give this place a straight five-star rating. read more

On Wednesday, July 19, I booked a room for Saturday, July 22. I thought I was lucky to get a room at all - apparently, there was some big event going on, and this was one of the last rooms available for that weekend. Unfortunately, I didn't get to stay here because they cancelled the reservation on the day I was supposed to check in: 11:44am - I miss a call from Seaside Inn and she leaves a voicemail saying that they were having trouble with my credit card, and to call back. 11:55am - I get an email from Priceline saying that I should give Seaside Inn a call about my credit card. 11:58am - I get another email from Priceline saying that Seaside Inn had cancelled my reservation. 12:05pm - I miss another call from Seaside Inn saying that they were canceling my reservation. Now, I understand that as a business, they need to make sure that they get paid. But 14 minutes between trying to reach me and canceling my reservation? I was already driving to Monterey and didn't notice the missed calls until around 12:30. Empty rooms = loss of profits, and it's a tough economy right now - I understand. I also understand that because the busy weekend allowed them to raise their prices from $60 to $160/night, they really wanted to be sure that they had a paying customer in that room. But I feel like they didn't really give me a chance to respond. read more

Let's start by reminding ourselves you're reviewing a locally owned and operated (owner is on premises!) MOTEL with a single $ rating. This place is a SAFE CLEAN COMFORTABLE stop, even if it wasn't as inexpensive as it it. The problem when traveling is we expect low cost to mean a low quality guest experience. This place defies that expectation. I'd have to suggest that if you expect luxury towels, a freshly prepared hot breakfast, and a team of customer service agents on call for your every need, you're probably looking in the wrong category. That said - if you are looking for CONVENIENCE, CLEANLINESS, and VALUE - you'll not find anywhere better. From the road, this design of this motel looks dated - what I used to call a motor court - with all the rooms facing inward to a courtyard that is paved for parking. However, upon checking in, we found a seemingly just-renovated room, with new doors and windows, carpet that was plush and unstained, and a bed & linens that I would stack up against any higher end property. The room is large with an open layout (a la motel 6 - so a closet and vanity that open to the rest of the room), and nicer well maintained furniture. Updated electronics, flat screen tv, and decent cable selection. Microwave and mini frig (both spotless) in the room as well as the expected amenities like an iron/board and hair dryer. Bathroom and vanity were finished in marble counters and floors. There was no mildew, no mold, and no smells. We found the room immaculate. The location is what it is - while not in a residential or tourist area, it is just off the highway and surrounded by large retail shopping centers with major retailers. We arrived after dark in the well lit lot and never had any hesitation for our safety or security. Although situated on Rt 1, we never heard traffic and found the room quiet and remarkably comfortable. Just North of Monterey in Seaside,it was a great value compared with other properties (that both cost more and had lower rated reviews - more like you'd expect from a "one $" property). Especially good if you were headed up the coast to Santa Cruz, or interested in exploring the area around Moss Landing and Watsonville! Would stay again without hesitation! read more

Strongly recommend this little inn. The host is an Indian lady, who offered to upgrade our double-bdroom to a two-sperated rooms for free! Everything inside the inn is clean and new, even the television is brand new and good to use. And this place is close to Monterey. We got up the next day and drove to 17 miles, which basically took about 20 minutes driving. In all, you can feel the manager is trying to make it better and I recommend it with no reservation. read more

After checking in and paying myself and my husband walked into a terrible room; tiny, hot, stuffy and stinking of air freshener with an underlining unpleasant odor. Despite that, we were so tired having travelled from overseas that we almost stayed, until we saw the stains on the bed and the crumpled sheets. We have travelled widely and I can assure anyone that at $100-110/night this place is NOT worth the price tag. Don't do it. I've looked at the reviews here and if you are paying more than $50 for this room, look elsewhere. After a discussion with the rude and unpleasant lady on reception we discovered that there had been revelers in the room for 3 days over 4th of July weekend. Despite initially refusing to refund our money, she said that she could understand that we would not want to stay there. Eventually she did refund our very recent payment, and even offered to let us stay there for the night for free. I was so happy to find this place after staying in disaster after disaster in Seaside, Salinas and Marina. This motel was only a little more expensive than other motels near by but better in quality by 100%, so trust me IT IS WORTH IT pay the extra 25 dollars. The hotel was nice and clean, the internet worked great (all the other hotels I stayed in did not have good internet access and I could not work during my stay) and the room was nice a large with a balcony. The front office was incredibly friendly and helpful. The bed and pillows are soft and comfortable. Lots of great shops near by and a safe and clean area. I very much enjoyed my stay and will be back again! Thank you so much Seaside Inn for turning my trip around. :) P.S.: STAY FAR AWAY FROM THE ECONOMY INN!! read more

First off - not enough parking spots for the number of rooms. The young man working the desk couldn't find our reservation number. After talking to his uncle he found it under my name - sort of. Then he could only guarantee us one night of two and asked if we could change rooms tomorrow night. Even then we weren't guaranteed a room tomorrow night. When you pay $99/night, you generally don't expect a lot. Seaside Inn greatly exceeded our expectations. Considering we booked about an hour before we checked in, the rate itself was incredible (this is the CA coast during summer, after all). The Inn is just a few minutes north of Monterey, conveniently close to Hwy 1, and across the street from a supermarket and adjacent to a Cost Plus World Market. Our room was shockingly nice for a little motel - free parking for both of our cars, TV with HBO, free wifi, mini fridge, microwave, immaculate and recently painted bathroom, comfy queen bed, and even a little balcony (no view really, but still kinda cool). Everything was very clean, and the room was quiet despite being on the end closest to the road. The motel managers were very kind and hospitable, and even brought muffins back out for us when I showed up too late for the complimentary breakfast snacks. If you're looking to go to Monterey on a budget, I would strongly recommend Seaside Inn. It's clean, quiet, comfortable, and affordable - what more could you ask for from a motel? read more
