Dish is one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh and my go-to for celebrations and/or date night!! The cocktails, vibes, and Italian food are some of the best that the Burgh has to offer. Everything we ordered was top notch. The desserts are so good that we each ordered our own! This is a must try, if you haven't been!!!

Delicious food, the softest free focaccia bread, and food that came out within 10 minutes. This is a great place to take people for a special occasion. My one complaint is that it is a little cramped with tables in the back so conversations might not be the most private.

Nestled on 17th Street in Pittsburgh's South Side, Dish Osteria & Bar is a charming and intimate eatery that serves up soul-warming Sicilian and Mediterranean fare. With a cozy yet elevated atmosphere, it's the perfect place for handcrafted pasta, fresh seafood, curated wines, amaros, and decadent cocktails. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 5 PM to 11:30 PM, this spot fills up quickly--definitely make a reservation! The vibe is upscale without being pretentious, and the service is warm, attentive, and welcoming. The menu changes seasonally, but a few classic dishes stick around for good reason. Went with a few friends and shared a delicious spread--starting with the Calamari alla Griglia: grilled East Coast calamari served with lemon, parsley, extra virgin olive oil, and sautéed spinach. Each piece was tender and flavorful. The Melanzane e Mozzarella di Bufala was a standout--grilled eggplant with buffalo mozzarella, basil, aged balsamic, and Sicilian olive oil. Every bite was a perfectly balanced medley of smokiness, tang, and creaminess. We also split two salads. The Insalata Mista was crisp and refreshing with a blend of radicchio, arugula, romaine, frisée, mustard greens, cherry tomatoes, green onions, turnips, and radishes--all dressed in Sicilian extra virgin olive oil and white balsamic. The Insalata di Carciofini alla Griglia (grilled baby artichokes with wild arugula, radicchio, and fig balsamic, topped with Ricotta Salata shavings) was another beautifully crafted plate with bold, fresh flavors. For my main, I had the Gnocchi al Ragu di Agnello--pillowy homemade potato gnocchi paired with Elysian Fields lamb shoulder ragu, Pecorino Pepato, and rosemary. Impeccable. The gnocchi were light yet satisfying, and the lamb was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Also sampled the Pappardelle ai Funghi Selvaggi and Rigatoni alla Scamorza Affumicata--both beautifully executed. We paired the meal with a featured cocktail of the week and a glass of wine and wrapped it up with a rich flourless chocolate cake--a sweet finish to a flawless night. Dish Osteria & Bar is truly a gem in Pittsburgh's dining scene--perfect for a date night, special celebration, or cozy dinner with friends. Refined, soulful, and full of heart.

Hands down our favorite spot in Pittsburgh. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, Every time we visit, we feel genuinely cared for. Now, let's talk about the food--absolutely phenomenal! My go-to dish is the rigatoni because it's the perfect balance of flavor and ingredients. I also love their seafood spaghetti, calamari, focaccia bread, and let's not forget limoncello cheesecake for dessert! What I appreciate most about how they accommodate dietary preferences. I have a severe tree nut allergy and they take it very seriously / can adjust certain meals (like the rigatoni accordingly and treat with care.

A south side neighborhood gem, Dish Osteria is a classic high end Italian restaurant that never disappoints. My wife and I recently returned and enjoyed a lovely date night. We arrived early and had a couple drinks at the bar. Being whisky fans, we had the Rye and Roses and a classic Old Fashioned. The drinks were well balanced and great pairings to the hearty pasta main courses we ordered. We love the intimate experience of the dining room and the staff always make us feel welcome. We can't wait for our next night out!

Delicious food and amazing service! I came to dish on a Wednesday night after having made a reservation 2 to 3 weeks ahead of time. Yes, that is 100% necessary. Even on the Wednesday night, the restaurant was full. Staff was very kind and attentive.they helped us get a drink while we waited for them to prepare our table. The order was correct and came out promptly. Food was absolutely amazing. Would definitely love to come back and would highly recommend this place.

Best Italian in Pittsburgh! Amazing service amazing food great ambiance! Nearly impossible to get a reservation here and now I know why. Will definitely be back here. The tuna carpaccio was delicious as well as the spaghetti ai frutti di mare

I would give dish 10 stars if I could! We had the most amazing dinner here for my husband's birthday. We made reservations for a Friday night as soon as the reservations opened up (30 days out). The space is pretty small inside, so definitely recommend reservations, but they did have some seats at the bar open when we were there. The meal started with their complimentary bread and dip, and we ordered the gnocchi and Rigatoni Alla Scamorza. While both were delicious, we agreed that the rigatoni was the favorite! If you're looking for authentic Italian, this is your spot! Everything was served piping hot and fresh and came out so quickly after ordering. I also had one of the best dirty martinis ever, with Gorgonzola stuffed olives. We ended the meal with tiramisu which, again, was some of the best I've ever had!

Great food, great service, and cozy atmosphere. My daughter and I couldn't decide between 3 dishes. The waitress said we could do half orders if we wanted so we got half orders of all 3! Delicious homemade gnocchi with lamb, a carbonara style rigatoni dish, and a mushroom pepparadelle. We couldn't decide on our favorite. Best meal I've had in awhile and the seasonal pumpkin cocktail was delicious too. Not to sweet or too much pumpkin. Now I understand why they are always booked.

More than 20 years ago, we had our very first date at Dish and we couldn't be more thrilled to celebrate each year in the presence of greatness. This meal was exceptionally delicious and the bartender and waitress were both so friendly and helpful. They graciously offered some Prosecco on the house to celebrate. The ambiance is so romantic and beautiful. But the food, oh yes, THE FOOD is what keeps us coming back. Their fennel dusted scallops with beets is so out of this world good. It's spectacular! Their pastas are fresh and homemade. If you like frutti di mare, theirs is the best I've ever had, even the ones we had in Italy, and their pappardelle with mushrooms was absolutely divine. They have a nice cocktail and wine list and make a mean Negroni. We enjoyed a nice Amaro with a wedge of their fig cake that came with vanilla whipped cream. It was so good. I'm still thinking about it. Not overly sweet and so flavorful. We really love Dish and wish them many more years of success.

Best Italian restaurant in the Burg! We loved the vibe: upbeat music, and very intimate atmosphere due to the smaller dining room. The service was amazing, and the menu is packed with lots of choices. All the food seemed very fresh and tons of favor. We have been to Italy about a dozen times, and the food here was very close to what we experienced there. Our new favorite place to go!

We've been wanting to try this place for a while but it's pretty difficult to get a reservation earlier than 8 PM. They obviously do a good business. Our reservation was at 5 PM, and I was impressed to see a line of people waiting to get in for the first-come, first-served bar seating. It filled up immediately. We were seated next to the bar area, close to the action. The inside is small, cozy, but lively and has charming tin ceiling tiles. The service was a little slow, and we had to ask for drink refills, something that was a little surprising for how many staff were working that night. The food was delicious with the exception of the seafood dish with risotto which, for the price-point, was underwhelming, over-cooked, and had cooled down by the time it was served to us. The rigatoni, however, was to-die-for! SO GOOD! It made up for the risotto, and is the reason why we will most definitely give this place a second chance

First off, I really enjoy the ambiance of this spot! Cozy & dimly lit, it reminds me more of an Italian spot you'd find in NYC than Pittsburgh. The service was good as well, and we enjoyed our time dining here. Now for the most important part - the food. We started off with their antipasto, which I appreciated because it had more interesting options than most. We then had the sardines (first time trying them - I loved how they were prepared) as well as the octopus, which was my favorite dish of the night. For our mains, we tried their famous rigatoni (which we'd been looking forward to all day) as well as the steak. Unfortunately, these weren't quite as good as some of our apps had been. I can't say I understand the hype behind the rigatoni - it's a decent dish but not particularly flavorful/outstanding. The steak could've been good but it was lukewarm by the time it was served, and the salad on the side was very bitter/didn't compliment it that well (it's not like it was so fatty/rich that such a bitter salad was needed). Luckily, dessert revitalized us - they were serving a special pumpkin panna cotta with a pumpkin seed brittle, and that was one of the better desserts I've had! Hopefully that makes a reappearance every fall - I'd happily return to have that alongside one of the amaros from their thoughtfully designed amaro list (where they note the flavors in each amaro they have - we had a lot of fun looking at this and choosing our amaros!) Overall, I enjoyed dining here and think it's a fun date night or girls night out spot! Definitely come hungry because there's a lot of delicious dishes on the menu, and make sure you save room for dessert and amaro!

We stopped by while walking around the Strip District looking for a quick lunch. During lunch service, you order at the kiosk, find a seat, and clean up after yourself, which makes for a casual and easy experience. Food: The tomato sauce here is probably some of the best red sauce I've had in a long time. We ordered the Caprese Panzanella, meatballs, crispy potatoes, and spaghetti with red sauce. Everything was delicious, but the salad completely stole the show for me. It was packed with fresh ingredients, bright flavors, and so many different textures that worked perfectly together. Every dish tasted fresh, simple, and executed well. Service: For lunch, you're mostly taking care of yourself, but the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming whenever we interacted with them. This is one of those places that doesn't need a long review because you really just need to try it for yourself. I'd absolutely recommend stopping by if you're visiting Pittsburgh for either lunch or dinner. Fresh ingredients, great flavors, and a fun atmosphere. It is a very cozy Italian restaurant that's serving homemade Italian food like your Nonna would make for you. We showed up on a Tuesday night and it was packed. It was around six or 6:30 in the evening and when we first got there, we were told it would be about a 20 minute wait before a two top was available. But the host came back and asked if we didn't mind sitting by the kitchen they could see us right away. We chose to sit by the kitchen, which honestly was probably the best option because it was actually a little bit quieter because there was a very large party that was celebrating a birthday and they had live music going on so it was hard to hear when you were in the main dining space but back by the kitchen it's a little bit quieter and we could actually hear ourselves talk. My husband got the penne with meatballs and the penny was nicely cooked with a beautiful tomato Bass sauce and the meatballs or some of the best Italian meatball he's ever had. His only complaint was that there were only two in the order and he wished there would've been three. I got the spinach and ricotta, stuffed ravioli, and by far one of the best raviolis I've ever had. The ravioli are large so there's only about five in a dish but they're packed fully and the flavoring and seasoning is absolutely spectacular. It's got a beautiful sauce like accompanies it and the chew you can definitely tell it is handmade pasta/ravioli. Our server, Emma was absolutely spectacular and was so kind. We truly enjoyed our experience here and would highly recommend anybody to check it out if you're in the area. But we also do recommend make your reservations ahead of time. This place gets packed quickly.

The waitresses are friendly and have great recommendations. I got to try their linguine rustica (essentially the clam pasta dish), a cappuccino, some cherry soda, and soup of the day, as well as complimentary bread. They got that bread out very quickly! Very soft, and served with quite high quality olive oil. The bottle has both olive oil and balsamic! The soup of the day was quite good as well. It was some sort of beef broth, I think may a beef and bean soup. Chickpeas in there as well. Next time, I might try the salad. The salad they have as a side is so good, an amazing portion and seems so fresh and tasty. The mains were excellent. Very good pasta with clam sauce. Lots of clam meat and a flavorful oil based sauce. My friend had some red penne with chicken and enjoyed that as well. Great portions, pretty fair prices. Finally, great drinks as well. Very memorable cherry cola that I believe the company is owned by the owner's son. Real cane sugar, very good. The cappuccino was great as well. Definitely come here!

Their menu is excellent... it's filled with so many appetizing options! We started with their stuffed peppers - OMG, EXCELLENT!! Any time I'm in the Pittsburgh area I need to try a few things, this being one of them. These were probably some of the best I've ever had! The sauce was finely ground and really flavorful. The peppers were perfectly cooked to keep their beauty and texture and they were spicy too! We also requested a large order of their table bread and asked for a side of EVOO with it. I sprinkled grated pecorino and freshly ground red chili flakes into the EVOO to make an incredible dipping sauce which worked perfectly with that bread! For my entrée I enjoyed their amazing Spinach Tagliatelle which came perfectly presented and tasted amazing! The spinach was perfectly cooked to the proper texture and the sauce was so good I didn't mind it having eggplant in it (which I hate). Save room for dessert, their panna cotta was great! Seated via OpenTable Reservations…read more Food & Drink: - Mixed Drink(s): 5 / 5 Sip of Sunshine Old Fashioned - My server recommended it and I couldn't understand why he called it SOS until I had it. Spoiler: it's not the name. Clean, clear, smells like any other bourbon until that first sip reveals just how perfectly blended it is. The kind of drink you savor while watching the sun set on the horizon. Crème Brûlée Espresso Martini - As my heart rate settled from the first drink I needed something to kick it back up. One sip and I could've read the dictionary cover to cover without blinking. Close your eyes and the aroma takes you straight to that first cup of coffee fresh out of the pot. Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake Martini - Beautiful presentation but flatter in flavor than the previous two. However for a final cocktail that was exactly the point -- the perfect calm down after a rich and spicy meal. - Food: 4.25 / 5 Bread, Oil & Dip: A great palate cleanser that quickly taught me the chef loves his spices. The dip was described as "Italian Hummus" and if this is the standard I completely understand the hype. Appetizer - Ceviche Peruviano: Think of that forgotten appetizer thrown together last minute for a dinner party, a hodgepodge of raw fish and vegetables. But every bite delivers an explosion of complementary flavors, and that sneaky hint of spice hiding in the raw fish bites will wake you up immediately. Pre-pasta - Tuscan Kale Salad: Needed something to cleanse my palate after the spicy ceviche and frankly I am tired of Caesar salad. Not a kale fan normally because it tastes like dirt, but the lemon vinaigrette adds just enough flavor to make that dirt genuinely enjoyable. Pasta - Cacio E Pepe: Easily the highlight. My buddy describes it perfectly as fancy fettuccine. I have never liked fettuccine until now. My server, who prepared it himself, recommended adding house chili oil for a slight kick. I went one click past recommended and even then it was still divine. I would order it again without hesitation. Entrée - Veal Chop, Lobster Tail & Vegetables (Chef's preference): After riding Cloud 9 all evening I felt like Icarus flying too close to the sun. One word: bland. The veal was overcooked with all the flavor locked into the fat, and the lobster tail tasted like a convenience store impulse buy. The best use of those bones would be soup stock. I had no desire to finish it. Dessert - Tuxedo Crème Brûlée: As much as I wanted the house raspberry tiramisu I left the choice to my server after some back and forth. He recommended this for its balance of sweetness and berry bitterness and he was right. The perfect final note to tap out on. Service: 10 / 5 Even now, I still don't think I tipped my server enough. Dining alone, he made the evening feel like I had a companion at the table. Great conversation, personalized attention, and a level of service that few will ever experience. It was a pleasure to talk to someone who knows and appreciates food as much as I do. If you want an exceptional dining experience, request AJ as your server. I promise you won't be disappointed. Vibe: 5 / 5 Presentation, presentation, presentation. That is the theme every dish and the environment itself conveys the moment you walk through the doors at Alla Famiglia. This is a place for those who want to feel bourgeois for the night. Overall 4.25 / 5: My goal in life is to become a regular somewhere. There is something special about finding a place you love so much that every visit still feels like a new experience. Alla Famiglia is exactly that type of place. During my visit I was introduced to new items and dishes not listed on the menu, which only adds to that sense of discovery. It may be a while before I return since this place isn't cheap and my restaurant bucket list is long, but I will be back. Hopefully AJ is still there when I do, because that is exactly the kind of server you want in your corner as a regular. Recommend? Absolutely
