I recently stumbled upon this business during my journey of buying my first pair of barefoot shoes. I started at the NV location on Main Street and was greeted with nothing but passion, knowledge, and professionalism from the guy that helped me (didn't catch him name unfortunately). I explained where I am with my training, skill, and abilities and why I wanted to transition to a barefoot style shoe. Instead of doing what most places do and trying to sell me the most expensive shoe in the line. He took the time to go over a variety of different shoes and explained each one thoroughly. When I finally picked a shoe, unfortunately the size I needed was not in stock at this location. He called Dave at the Vancouver location and asked him to set aside ALL size 11 shoes in that model so I could have a choice of color. I went with the Xero HSF and they have been amazing thus far! Fast forward to today. I went into the NV location again with more questions and was very open about my Intention of the visit and that I would more than likely NOT BE buying a shoe but just wanted to confirm a size. This same individual treated me with the same passion, knowledge, and professionalism as the first time. It's customer service like these guys offer that has now made me a 1000% returning and reoccurring customer. This individual also took the time to help me understand my nutrition and how to execute my performance for some upcoming events. Best 200$ spent this whole year! Took the bus from downtown Vancouver on Sat morning, totally worth it. I had surgery on my ankle a couple of months ago, walking is painful. No longer. Best runners ever! read more

Great specialty running supply shop. I was looking for a retailer for Hoka and Altra brand shoes which had been recommended to me, and was pleased to find that this store carried both and was just a few blocks away. Owner was super friendly and helpful- expertise didn't translate to snobbiness the way it can in some athletic stores. I'm not a runner, let alone a marathoner, but he still asked the right questions to make good suggestions. Prices are in line with similar shops. I bought a brand new model and it was the same price as at Sportchek. read more

Vancouver's best running store. Distance Runwear is a great supporter of the local run community and keeps the locals engaged with events like the South Hill Striders run club and Tuff Kid. They carry a great selection of gear and other products like race gels, bars, etc. and also does run training and form analysis. Whether a beginner, intermediate, or advanced runner, this is a supportive store with the expertise to help. The best part though about "Dave's store" (as my son calls it) is Dave. A great runner himself with many inspiring stories to share, always a smiling and cheerful guy, and someone who truly loves the sport and his customers. Do visit. pretty surprised no one reviewed this store yet because it really is one of a kind! i just moved into the neighborhood but had read about this store and heard about it's awesomeness from a few fellow runners. it is a small, locally owned business that truly provides something different when it comes to running so if you're looking for the latest Nike or Reebok shoes? keep on trucking. this is a specialty run shop that focuses on improving running stride and economy by offering more progressive products such as Altra, Newton, Vivo and Izumi (both road and trail). they also have running snowshoes, hydration packs, gels and clothing. Dave was awesome and spent a good deal of time with me explaining differences in the trail shoes as well as answering my random questions... me: what the hell is this business??? (pointing at a weird looking platform runner) Dave: that's the Hoka One One...basically for ultras etc where you have to get through a race injured me: oh. i'll never need that. he was also a wealth of knowledge when it comes to snowshoe running. i got myself a pair of Altra trail runners for a good price, including a free pair of compression socks and even got a discount cause i signed up with the local running club! YIPPEEE!!!!! i highly recommend this place if you are venturing into "barefoot" or progrressive running and might be tired of the same old same old offered at your regular running stores. Personally, I've been wearing NB minimus and Merrel pacegloves for almost 2 years and had no idea there were better options out there. i will be back...my bank account sobs. read more
