My husband and I were in the area coming from down in Etown, and we always try to take advantage of the eclectic food options in Louisville that we don't see where we're at. This place has great reviews and we were super excited. We were able to be seated right away, but it took some time to get service. The interior is pretty modern looking with beautiful and thematic decor touches. I was extra hungry and I got the pho with beef and meatballs, because I know these noodle soups are always delicious and they always fill me up. Pho is my comfort food, and this past week I definitely needed some. District 6 is conveniently (and dangerously) located within walking distance of our house, so on a lovely spring evening my dining companion and I set out for a culinary adventure. We were seated quickly and the entire team was truly wonderful. From the host to our server to the gentleman who promptly and repeatedly stopped by to refill our water glasses we felt completely cared for and valued. And the food. The veggie pho. Just yes. The broth was complex and multi-layered - quite a feat for veggie-based broth. The noodles were lovely and the veggies were perfectly cooked. The mushrooms were particularly notable, as District 6 uses (I think) shitake rather than button, and the flavor was delicious. The tofu is clearly an intentional addition rather than just an afterthought. My spouse enjoyed his stir-fried egg noodles with tofu, and since he offered me a bite I can confirm the validity of his assessment. The menu includes a large vegan/vegetarian section, which is important for a restaurant aiming to cater to all tastes, preferences, and dietary styles. Overall lovely service, lovely food, lovely ambiance, lovely experience. I'll be walking back again soon. read more

Holy yum! My parents really like District 6 and my husband and I had never been, so we decided to take them there for Mother's Day. We started with Mama's Mini Spring Rolls. They were perfectly fried and so delicious. The lunch specials are a great value. $14.00 for an entree, side and drink - sign me up! I chose the Pagoda Noodles with the shrimp roll. So, so good! The tofu and shrimp were cooked perfectly and the chili oil on the side packed one hell of a punch and set the flavors off so well. My parents had the chicken rice noodle salad and loved it and my husband polished off his curry with a quickness! The service was fast and friendly and our waters were never empty. After a recent experience that opened me up to pho, I decided to try it at another place. Unfortunately, I was not the biggest fan of the pho here. I ordered the beef and meatball pho as well as the district 6 wontons. The wontons were good, albeit spicy. It certainly has a kick to it that not everyone can handle, but beyond that it tasted great. However, I did not enjoy the pho. I've never been a big fan of pho because of how oily and fatty it tasted, but a recent good experience opened me up to trying it once more. However, it seems that pho has to be very clean and not so greasy for me to enjoy it. While I personally did not enjoy the pho here, I'm sure there are many people who don't have as strict a palette for pho that do enjoy it. The environment was very nice. It is very clean and beautiful on the inside, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. It's in a great location and has huge windows that allow a lot of natural light in but the darker interior allows for a more atmospheric mood. Although I had my own personal issues with pho, District 6 was a good place all in all. It's a great environment that has good food that I'm sure many will enjoy. read more

The pho never fails to please. I like the Dino bone version. The meat literally falls off the bone it is so tender. A different restaurant in town used to be my favorite spot for pho but they started adding way too much sugar! Came back to district 6 and realized their recipes don't change because they don't need to. They are fabulous! My husband absolutely loves the red curry chicken. It is very spicy so beware. Ordered a bunch of food for delivery through Yelp. The process was fast and easy. I ordered all vegetarian dishes so that the vegetarian friend could eat everything as well. We enjoyed the food and would definitely try it again next time I'm in town. We ordered: - Pagoda Noodles TOFU w/Eggs: pad-thai inspired. The flavor was quite mild, but was tasty and not greasy. Would be good if we got chili sauce or something that could make this a little spicier. - Brussels and Black Kale Miso Caesar Salad Plate: was ok. But I have a tendency to use very little dressing. I'd expect that it tastes better if I had used more dressing. - Sweet and Spicy Cauliflower: very tasty. I hate the leftovers a day after, and it was still good. There were bits of fresh chili pepper in there, so be careful. I loved the spicy kick. - 8 Piece Crispy Pan Fried Vegetable Dumplings: I personally really liked this one. Was glad that there's a vegetarian version of the dumplings. It's not easy to find in other places. - Mama T's Spicy TOFU, Egg and Cheese Fried Rice: a very fusion dish, friend rice with cheese. I enjoyed this dish. Everything went well together. I would think that it'd be much better with chicken or shrimp. Next time... Really recommend this place. I've been here twice and both times I ordered the same thing (Bahn Mi - Fried Chicken) because it was delicious. I'm all about flavor and this definitely had it. They asked if I wanted it spicy, which of course I said yes - but be careful haha. They give you these little red peppers which are super spicy! But for sure add some great flavor. The other item I've ordered is the Sweet N Spicy Cauliflower. I found it to be quite tasty! Perfectly fried and had a nice heat to it. The service was great, very attentive and made sure I had my water filled before I could finish a glass. The ambiance is great. The first night I went in it was super steamy in there, but I didn't mind because it was cold and snowy outside. I am super impressed with the food here. Everything tasted amazing and the service there was great! I ordered their Beef rib pho, the beef was super tender that it fell off the bone, the broth was absolutely heavenly, and the portions were very generous. They gave a lot of meat! It was hard to finish but I somehow managed! I also tried the papaya salad with shrimp which was exceptionally delicious, shrimp was super plump and juicy and the papaya was refreshing! Wife, her dad, four small kiddos & this here fat man entered into this clean joint on a busy night. Greeted immediately by Rolando, who sat us and served us. Very cordial. Informed. Gracious. Good start. Wife and kids are celiacs so we have a long history of patronizing legit SE Asian places in SoCal that serve wheat-free options. This is our first time trying it this option in Louisville. No such options in Bardstown, sadly. The spring rolls (not fried but fresh wrapped) and the pium sauce were solid and tasty. We also tried the short ribs & pork belly bowl. Solid. Flavorful. Simple & unpretentious. I tried the pagoda noodles (their pad thai equivalent) and enjoyed it. Only negative is that it feels less Vietnam than it does pan pacific Asian fusion. And that's OK. I like that anyway. But in the last twenty years, I've eaten at dozens of strip mall pho joints in Garden Grove & Westminister CA ... so my standards are unfairly high. I ordered the spring roll, vermicelli, cauliflower and passion fruit boba from DoorDash. It was a complete let down. They did not include utensils or napkins even after specifying in the instructions. The spring rolls were half the size as normal rolls that I've gotten anywhere else. The peanut sauce had congealed like it was a few days old. The vermicelli was mostly lettuce with old soggy noodles that were only a quarter inch long. It was mostly lettuce and the beef had the texture of liver. The cauliflower came with no seasoning and it was completely overdone and soggy. I received twice as much cauliflowers I did vermicelli. The passion fruit tea tastes good, but the Boba also seems like it has been sitting around for a while, because it's in big clumps and won't break apart. read more

Tonight, with some family members under the weather, we needed to get our dinner delivered. We used a third party delivery service and ordered from District 6, located in St. Mathews. I ordered the following- Banh Mi- pickled relish, spicy Mayo, cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeño with choice of protein. (I ordered pork and asked for sriracha on the side.) Yucca Fries w/Garlic Cilantro Aioli The yucca fries had the perfect amount of crisp without being overcooked. They were thick cut, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and lightly salted. The garlic cilantro aioli was the perfect accompaniment. The portion of fries was large enough to share. Next time, I will know to order extra aioli. The banh mi was delicious. I feel like banh mi sandwiches are solid comfort food. They're one of the few foods that are still appetizing in the dead heat of summer. Today, the stifling humidity made agreeing on dinner a more difficult task. This fit the bill. In comparison to other local establishments that serve banh mi sandwiches, the pork was more heavily marinated, chopped instead of sliced, and the bread was softer. These were all attributions that I preferred over the others. While I'm sure I haven't tried every banh mi sandwich in Louisville, I would order these again. I've had the Red Curry Chicken (sweet potatoes and red onions topped with cilantro) and the Spicy Fried Chicken Bao Bun (red onions, pickled relish, spicy mayo and cilantro) in the past. The red curry is perfect for lovers of spice. The bao buns weren't as spicy, but they were remarkable. The texture of bao buns is something I've craved ever since. District 6 has yet to disappoint. And although I prefer to not use 3rd party deliver services, sometimes it's just necessary and I'm grateful for the convenience and availability. Since moving to Louisville in 2014, I've openly lamented the fact that (okay, my belief that) the city has lacked a decent option for Vietnamese cuisine. Fortunately, that appears to have changed sometime during the pandemic with the opening of District 6. I've only tried the papaya salad and the pho, and both were as good as I've had anywhere (for context, I've lived near Little Vietnam in San Jose, and have been to Vietnam a couple of times). Also, I appreciate what they've done with the space, which I believe to have previously been a clothing store. The fishbowl kitchen is inviting, and they've created a definite vibe and identity without having gone overboard. I look forward to my second visit... Tip: while you might not think to do so at a Vietnamese restaurant, give the Bloody Mary a try. It's pretty outstanding, and complements the food nicely. read more
