Clean place. Great service. Wonderful aromas. Tastey pho. Talented chef. I was happy with my red curry, just spicy enough.

My friend and I spotted this place when we were walking to The Bep after dinner at Sapporo's. The menu was posted outside so we decided we'd try it next time. We finally tried it for dinner! It was...virtually empty. Three people dining in other than ourselves. It stayed pretty quiet the entire time we were there. My friend and I both tried the Vietnamese iced coffee. Just okay. It was refreshing though. We also shared crispy dumplings which were flavorful. For the food, I ordered bunh with pork while my friend chose mi xao, a stir fried noodle with vegetables. She added beef to it. The food was okay. The sauce on the side for the bunh was a watered down version of fish sauce. It was still a filling meal, fresh, and tasty. Just not the best I've had. I liked my friend's noodles. It reminded me of lo mein but a much thinner noodle. Food was made to order. So everything was hot! And the room got Smokey as they cooked the food. The kitchen isn't enclosed. Service is good though. She checked up on us a lot and food and drinks come out fast. read more

I visited this restaurant with a group of friends. I had the Beef Brisket Pho, as always. The food tasted similar to Pho Phi in St. Matthew. My friend had the Seafood combination pho, which looked very tasty. I will choose this menu next time I come here. Our server was very friendly. The atmosphere inside was clean enough. read more

Always pleasant, always good. Probably best Pho in town. At the very least, most consistently good pho in town.

Wonderful Beef rib Bánh mì sandwich and combination Pho. Ingredients were fresh and the food was delivered to the table nice and hot. Service was also good, and quick. We've been a couple of times now and each time was delicious. The first time we tried it done in. It's true what they say, you can tell it's cooked to order as the restaurant fills with the smell of grilled meats. I saw short rib on the menu and had to order it and it did not disappoint. The sauces and seasonings are on point. I could drink the peanut sauce. Everyone was really nice. The wait staff was very attentive and answered any questions we had. They even made sure I had a drink togo. We've also had takeout and delivery. The pho packaging is good. They had the right idea, in the shotgun style place, to put the kitchen long ways. It feels like a lot more dining area. Plus they have outdoor seats. read more

FOOD - Chef's Special Noodles: rice noodles with meat, eggs, carrots, celery, beans sprouts, and green onions in curry paste. I ordered mine with shrimp and without bean sprouts and green onions. I liked this dish. It reminded me of Singapore fried noodles which is one of my favorite noodle dishes. And it had a nice kick. The portion was big. 4/5 SERVICE: Service was fast and friendly. When I visit Louisville, my boyfriend forgets where we have eaten so now we've come here a couple of times lol. Overall, it is pretty average for Vietnamese food. I am from California where we have a plethora of viet food. That said, I am considering how that is not the same here. As I mentioned, the food is pretty average - if you're looking for truly authentic viet food I feel like this isn't the place. The restaurant is pretty clean and the staff is very nice. I ordered the Pho Do Bien and short ribs. It was hot and fresh. Full of different kinds of fish and had great spices and flavor. A lot of food for the price. The ribs had a good flavor also. A small portion but was fine. The Pho came with additional spices on the side so the level could be controlled which is great. I am always worried about food being too spicy. read more

This place is good. The pho is tasty a d the soup is complex, and there are plenty of accoutrements to jazz up the flavor even more. We also got the egg rolls which came out super hot so be careful you don't accidentally burn yourself and the dipping sauce didn't really have much flavor. But don't let that deter you from going to try some dishes there. I hear the shaking beef is really good, so I'm definitely gonna go back and try that! read more

We came for the second time and it was as good as the first! We got seated promptly and service was good. I had the Pho Ga which has chicken and it was delicious. It is a huge portion though! My Dad had the Shaking Beef and OMG it is by far one of the best dishes I've had in Louisville. I cannot wait to come back! read more

We ordered carry out so this review is only about the food! We got the summer rolls, the Chefs Special noodles, and the shaking beef. Overall the food was really good and we would order from here again but may try other menu options. The summer rolls had great flavor but were a little chewy which was different. The shaking beef was probably my favorite. It came with sauce that tasted like a mixture of yum yum sauce and French dressing. The chefs special noodles were definitely spicy but very flavorful. I had the Bun Thit Nuong, and the two grandbabies that were with me shared the Egg Rolls with Scallion Soy Sauce and Pork Fried Rice. Finally tried out Pho Cafe, and was a bit disappointed. The bahn mi wasn't well assembled and each bite contained only one ingredient - meat, cucumber or jalapeño. Pho Cafe is a nondescript little place in the weird little 1980's building on Bardstown Road. We came on a cold and rainy day so it was just us, the workers, and one other occupied table. I decided on the RED CURRY W/TOFU, with an EGG ROLL. My friend and I also thought we might like to sample the BAHN MI SPECIAL, so we ordered that and split it. My only complaint was that the red curry was not really a curry, it was noodles that were just coated in a sauce. And even though I requested spicy, they were not spicy at all. However, it was tasty and had it been called something else I would not have been as disappointed as I was. However, the Bahn Mi ROCKED and I will make it a point to order that anytime I am in the area from now on. Decor inside is a little weird, its all black walls with some odd Big Lots metal art of wine bottles and one that says "coffee". But I dont care, I will probably just be getting take out from now on. I have passed this restaurant while visiting Bep boba place for years, and finally now decided to check it out. It seems not eating here before was my miss. My husband and I have lived in town for over two years and finally made it in to the Pho cafe and we are so happy we did! We loved the pho bo and the servings were generous and very flavorful. The summer rolls and the peanut sauce were the best I've ever had, and save your leftover sauce for the noodles in the pho. We weren't sure why this place wasn't packed, but don't let that deter you! The restaurant next door always over flowing but they would be much better served coming here. Our server Alex was friendly and quick to help us, giving us knowledge on the menu as first timers. First of all, it's almost criminal that I haven't been here yet, especially considering I used to frequent the coffee shop across the street every single week. Pho Cafe is delicious! I got the Chef's Special Noodles (veggie) because it promised some spice. It lived up to the hype! Though, I'm a spicy-loving crazy person, so I can always do with more. It's mildly spicy, but that's just fine. We also ordered the crispy dumplings. They were tasty! A little small in size, but I suppose I'm used to a dumpling-sized dumpling. I absolutely love Pho but it's something I don't have often. Pho Cafe is a good option if you want to try it out. They have a good amount of choices so there is something for everyone. We split the spring rolls for an appetizer and I see why they are popular. It's nice to have an appetizer that is not heavy on the stomach where you can't eat the main entree. Yes yes yes. Pho is my happy place, and Pho Cafe has some of the best I've had in Louisville. The broth is particularly delicious, and the portion sizes are very much appropriate for the price. I would give it 5 stars except for the following: -It's a little confusing to order. There is a host station, as well as a separate ordering window with the menu posted above. The first time we dined, there was no one at the front, so we walked up to the window and ordered, then sat down at an open table. The person taking our order assumed we wanted it to go, so brought it out all bagged up in take-out containers. After the confusion was sorted out, we very much enjoyed our meal. -Although there is vegetarian pho, it is not listed on the menu, so vegetarian and vegan diners may skip over Pho Cafe when choosing a pho experience. That is actually fine with me, because that leaves more delicious veggie broth for me to slurp, but... it would be nice to know it's an option without having to ask. read more

Meh. To summarize, my Vietnamese-loving friend said as we left that next time she visits we'll have to try a different spot, and I left with leftovers I wasn't super excited to eat. As a plus, the menu was different than just typical pho, vermicelli, and rice dishes- and the meals we got had very different flavors. The flavors were strong, which I generally like, but I just didn't love my shakin beef or her pork. And the summer rolls were fresh but nothing earth shattering. Also - not necessarily a negative - but a note that their emphasis does not seem to be dine in. It was very basic inside, and our waiter wasn't particularly attentive. Hm, no surprises here. Pho Cafe serves a limited menu of Vietnamese restaurant highlights. I was kinda expecting that when I came here this afternoon. I was short on time but long on hunger. I ordered cha gio cuz I have to try it at every Vietnamese restaurant. These were a disappointment. They were heavy on filler cabage with not much else. Then I ordered the pho combo. It was full of rare beef, meatballs and brisket slices. The broth was more salty than I like. I find myself hoping for some sweet flavor in the soup. I got full. Service was friendly and efficient. My daughter knows my love for Pho, so took me to the Pho Cafe while visiting her in Louisville, KY. Note, if you are not a local and depending on where you are staying (in my case, Caesars Southern Indiana) the GPS takes you through a lot of neighborhoods that are packed with cars on the road. Also, parking isn't plentiful near the restaurant. We parked in a church parking lot a few blocks down. The restaurant is located in a building connected to other businesses. Inside is pretty plain and very casual. We ordered spring rolls (2 in an order), the Chicken Pho and rare beef Pho. The spring roll was good but we didn't care for the peanut dip - very thick with a heavy peanut taste. We combined housin and siracha ( on the table) for our dip. My daughter said the beef pho broth and meat were perfect. My chicken pho broth was warm, flavorful, and so satisfying. Unfortunately, it was served with thinly sliced white meat which was tough and chewy - disappointing considering how great the broth was. The waitress was friendly with a bubbly personality. The owner (?) was there and made us laugh as we were leaving. Overall experience was worth the travel to get there! read more

My go to pho spot was closed, I decided to give this place a shot. The food was okay, I wasn't impressed. It felt more like Americanized Vietnamese, it didn't taste very authentic. It was missing those rich and bold flavors. Summer rolls felt like they were just thrown together in a hurry and the peanut sauce tasted store bought. Crispy wontons were average, nothing special. I got a pork bann mi but the pork was salty and I would prefer more vegetables on it. The different tastes and textures you usually get when eating bahn mi was not there. Pho was okay, the broth wasn't very rich in flavor, the brisket was the best part. It's okay enough to satisfy a pho craving but wouldn't leave you wanting more. Vietnamese iced coffee was bitter and didn't balance out with the condensed milk. They also don't drip it in front of you like other places do. read more

Honestly I have no idea how this place have a 4.5 stars. Clearly they haven't eaten actual Vietnamese food. Like everything was still bad as the first time I tried when they first open. We try and order different things at a new place but we both ended wanting the Chef noodles! The chef noodles are so good! They are spicy but not terribly spicy!
