I've had District 7 bookmarked for a while now, and I didn't actually realize that I've driven by it so much... It's a pretty nondescript building, but you really can't miss it! I got dinner here with friends and sat outside on the patio - you can even be out during inclement weather since the patio is covered. The service here is actually pretty darn good, too, which I can always appreciate. I ordered an artichoke spinach dip to share and seafood pappardelle. The artichoke spinach dip had tomatoes, which was a fresh and pleasant surprise, and it was served alongside fresh naan chips, which I couldn't stop eating! The pappardelle, though... My pasta had a couple fragments of shell (I'm assuming) accidentally mixed into the sauce, so you can imagine the rude awakening I had when I chomped into my pasta - which was actually well-cooked. The sauce was pretty interesting (all of their sauces are made in-house), and the seafood was plentiful. I wasn't super impressed with my food (especially at District 7's price point), but my friends seemed to enjoy their meals. I think their dishes are hit-or-miss, and I unfortunately ordered a miss. If you want a great place to grab a drink, though, I think District 7 would be perfect for that. read more

I came in for HRW dinner on Thursday and was surprised this little spot was cranking out the food it did. We liked that you can BYOW (bring your own wine) but we didn't know that so maybe next time. We ordered: -creamy ginger mussels (regular menu) -HRW starter- panko shrimp & tuna tartar -HRW main- pork shank osobuco & salmon -HRW dessert- bread pudding & crème brulee The mussels were very good, nice and big portion, and plenty of sauce to dip the pita bread in. The panko shrimp seemed to be battered in a corn meal rather than panko nonetheless big size shrimp. Tuna tartar was about 5/6 chips with the tartar on top of each piece. The main dishes were huge portions with comforting sides of veggies and mashed potatoes. If you want a fast meal and like diner food, this would be a great option. The service was quick, which was nice, and this spot seems popular. Super crowded and loud, which was all in the diner spirit. But it's still just diner food. The food was not great, though not bad. Ive been several times. Usually the service is fast, the food hot, prompt and correct. Today I visited in a party of 3. We ordered a Kobe burger, wagu burger and sushi tuna burger. Woman asked if I wanted fries, I asked if it was included and she said yes so I got sweet potato fries. Turns out theyre not included and cost an additional $2 each. Way to lie. We got our number, grabbed a table, and proceeded to wait 20 min for her to arrive with a wrong order Angus burgers instead of kobe and wagu. So we waited another 10 min for them to fix our order. Then she appeared and realized the 3rd order wad wrong. She had a tuna salad instead of tuna sandwich. So 2 of us had our food while the 3rd waited another 10 min for her food. When it arrived, the portion of $2 fries were tiny. Very disappointing. After dinner, we wanted some of their free ice cream but it was empty/ out of mix. We asked the service about it and they said its not filled on saturday which is a complete lie because a table was eating some when we arrived. Fail. Last, we noticed they had messed up at least 2 other table's orders. Overall, disappointed we tipped well before getting service or food. Lesson learned, dont tip til its earned! read more

Not Very impressed with the food at all, I asked for scrambled eggs and I received fried and I can't stand fried eggs. Ugh it makes my stomach just upset when I see the yolk run out of an egg. My boyfriend mom wasn't to happy about her shrimp and grits, they where very bland, and had to add a lot of shrimp to them. I will say I won't be coming back here for brunch ever. read more

I thought this place was going to be really good from hearing what our friends had to say about it. The menu had me salivating at first glance. And $2 Mimosas? Call me an Alki, but who could pass that up?! Well that all changed after we got the food. Here's the run down: Spinach & Artichoke Dip: Too much cheese, not enough spinach. I had to literally peel the cheese off to get to the greens! The "Naan" chips were way greasy. And I mean greasy like: when you wipe you'd fingers on your napkin after touching one, your napkin went clear. Seared Blackened Ahi Tuna Burger w/ steak fries: When I think seared I think cooked on the outside and nice and pink in the middle (med rare)...not the case here. Can we say Medium well? I could only make it through half of it cuz it was so tough. Steak fries were good tho. Seared Tuna Salad: Now this was puzzling. This came out nearly raw! And the dressing was too thick. I stopped in here for breakfast one morning while staying downtown, as I was told they had breakfast tacos. They did when I was there in Nov.-2012, but I don't see them on the menu anymore. I tried three of them: the all meat, beef tenderloin, and potato & egg. All tasted good, but did not stand out compared to the likes of breakfast taco masters. Should I be back in the area, I think I'd stop in again and try the migas. Service was great: very friendly and efficient. The building was small and a bit odd, but had a corner diner charm to it. My aunt had the chicken penne salad. Flavorful, but a bit too sweet. My sister ordered the parmesan chicken sandwich. Flavorful, sweet, but a bit soggy. My uncle had the crab cake. I can't remember if I've written a review on this place or not, and it's one of my favorite dining spots in Houston. This location is by far the best one. When striving for consistency, the others should try to match this one. Everything from management, to wait staff, to recipes is better here. Michael makes me try something new almost every time I go in. I've had breakfast, pasta, and salads. Next on the list are the burgers after a coworker and I went and drooled over every burger that passed by. Highly recommended: Open-faced Tenderloin with District 7 Salad, Blackened Mahi Salad, Mahi Picatta. Their cakes are also great. Be prepared to split a slice that weighs as much as a brick. $2 Mimosas and Poinsettas have never steered anyone wrong. And it's also BYOW. We were in Houston with our dog and needed a place that had a dog friendly patio to eat. District 7 was close by and we decided to try it out. The breakfast food (pancakes, eggs, bacon, French toast) looked delicious and my kids loved it. I had a bunless burger and a salad and it was OK. This place looks like a traditional shiny metal walled dinner but has a patio out front. It's in midtown so it's a nice walkable neighborhood. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and they included the gratuity on the bill??? Seriously? I thought that was strange. Not a fan of an auto tip when it's just my family. I believe the server should deserve their tip and in this case he did. But what if the service was bad? I understand when it's a large group but this wasn't the case. Other than the auto tip it's a good place to have a bloody mary and some brunch. You lose a star due to the automatic gratuity. read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning after a night off. So sad I was a bit hungover, so I declined mimosas. However, everyone else looked as though they enjoyed theirs. A pitcher for $12? NOT BAD! I ordered a veggie omelet that came with grits, country potatoes, and toasts. I also added pancakes on the side. The omelette and grits were delicious. Came for the turkey burger to find out they no longer carry it or their veggie burger so ended up with the Bison burger w/ sweet potato fries and a glass of the red sangria. It's a nice serving to share or devour on your own. My sister had the cheese crusted chicken linguine and she kept raving about how that's how people should cook chicken; breaded. Cheesy. Crispy. The pesto and linguine combo went well together. My mom had the pappardelle with a cream sauce and shrimp, mussels, etc. I think the sauce was a little bland but the scallops were cooked really well. For both the pappardelle and linguine, I can say they cook their pasta good here. Exactly al dente. Dad had the bison burger; best medium and don't overdo it. Overall, service was also good. My experience today started a little "out of the norm" for me at this place, based on previous visits. My first time trying breakfast. So after being seating - I ordered a Bloody Mary, which was totally awesome. I then ordered the fried egg sandwich over medium - no onions. I waited for what seem like an eternity for an egg sandwich. Well - it comes out over easy! Ugh I decide to eat it anyway. One of the waiters noticed my facial expression and immediately came over to my table and offered to correct the mistake. I was hesitate as I had waited too long for my current sandwich. The vibe at District 7 Grill is very brunch-like and classy. The parking as it is located in Midtown is not spacious especially during normal dining hours. There is outdoor seating which is comfortable. As a vegetarian, there were not many options to chose from. I settled with the veggie pizza which was personal size. There was not much flavor, and I did not feel as the pizza was worth the price. I think this is a great place for brunch but as a vegetarian, I would not go back because of the lack of options. read more

There are very little places in Houston that remind me of my home state, New Jersey, but this is definitely one of them! Similar feel to an old school Jersey diner and great variety of food as well. District 7 is Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and they're all superb. This last time I brought an old friend who was in town and we both ended up getting the hamburger breakfast plate - which they let us order after the time frame of brunch on that Monday - delicious. The Service was very good, they checked on us multiple times and made sure we were doing alright and had water in our glasses at all times. Located in a convenient spot within quick walking distance from midtown and downtown and has decent parking as well. Also solid spot for quick business lunches as that is a lot of the crowd during the week from about 11-1. Definitely recommend. read more

I wasn't impressed with the menu, it only has appetizers, salads, burgers and pasta...no meaty meals. So we choose pasta dishes and my date and I were both very impressed with the presented meal. He got the meatloaf lasagna, which is more like meatloaf and less like lasagna. It came with a side salad. I got the Pappardelle which had shrimp, mussels, clams and scallops. There was much more seafood than I expected, which was a pleasant delight. I loved my dish. Both dishes tasted great. The service was just ok, I spilled a glass of water on my table and they didn't do anything to clean it up, then they tried to refill the glass that I had spilled which had been rolling around on the table and the lemon slice had fallen out. Went to District 7 after I read the reviews on Yelp, but I was very disappointed. For starters we shared a foie gras bruschetta- it was more like a piece of flat bread with some jam and caramelized onions and a few melted dots of something that apparently was supposed to be foie gras. I have no idea how it got the name foie gras bruschetta. We then ordered the Wagu beef burger, and again what a disappointment. the flavor was bland, and the burger was boring.. Well here comes the worst part, after we ate at the restaurant my friend had food poisoning!!! That completely turns me off! Not only was the food bad, but the hygiene seems lacking!!!!! A LOT! Came here to grab something quick to eat right off our flight and was pleasantly surprised! The food is really good, I had a burger and it was very juicy and made a perfect medium! This particular location is a pretty small but they did a pretty good job on social distancing, employees wore masks and hand sanitizer was readily available. Big fan of this place. The weekend brunch is superb: lots of different options and seating indoor and out. Breakfasts served between a big piece of naan are flavorful. Patio is a great place to enjoy eats with good friends. The biggest issue with this place is the parking -- the crowded lot was full, and street parking didn't really seem doable. Let's move to the meat breakfast pizza, three bits of bacon, 3 hunks of sausage.. Half a red onion and most of a bunch of cilantro... Is this a veggie pizza?? They do at least agree to take the food back and try again, though after returning once to make sure the new food is better, I never get a refill on my coffee or wife's juice.. Had to ask for more coffee and water, as I guess we ticked their staff off who then ignored us. The the kicker is when the lady brings the bill, "we forgot to add the coffee and juice, mind if I add those when I run the card?" "Yes I do mind and if you think that's appropriate after sending food back and wasting 90 minutes if my morning please do..." So she adds the juice and not the coffee???? Wtf. I came here because it was close to the convention center, where I was for a conference. This is a place where you order, pay, sit down with a number, and then get served your food (aka no service). I ordered the special of the day, which was salmon with pasta, along with the soup of the day which was asparagus soup. The soup was pretty flavorful, and there was decent amount. The main course was not as good. My pasta was lukewarm in some areas, hot in others, and the salmon was either not fully cooked or almost raw. Some of the fish was not entirely hot either. The first bite was delicious, but it got worse as I got to the thicker areas. Bah. The pasta flavor was light, and the fish definitely could have used more flavor and/or sauce. Found this place on Yelp since me and my patient that was with me was starving and wanted to eat somewhere close where we were. The place was clean and set up like a 50's diner. The lady behind the counter greeted us and we were able to pick a booth to sit. The menu was brought to us along with her taking our drink orders. We both just got a water. The menu offered pizza/flatbreads, burgers/sandwiches, salads, and pasta. Americanized Italian type of foods are what I see that they offer. I opted for the parmesan crusted chicken burger and my patient ordered the Philly cheesesteak (their own version). If you want fries or a side you have to order it separately. We were fine with just the sandwich. The food came out in a timely manner and was hot and fresh. The presentation was nice and neat. I cut my burger in half because the portion was quite big for my tiny hands. The chicken was tender and juicy, not dry at all for white meat. The pesto sauce that I added instead of the dispread was perfect with my sandwich. The fresh arugula was pleasant and compliments really well with the melted cheese and parmesan chicken. My tastebuds were happy and my belly was definitely satisfied to the T. I ate it all :). My patient also enjoyed his Philly cheesesteak and had to take his leftovers to go because the portion was big. He said he liked it very much. I only had a small piece of meat and it was flavorful.
