I've had District 7 Grill in my places to try for months. My husband isn't adventurous with new places so I need to find time when I can go on my own. Full disclosure: I worked a 12 hour day and just wanted a good meal and a glass (or 2) of wine. Was greeted quickly by a friendly young person. Lots of great sounding menu options. But unfortunately that's where my experience derailed. Had the jam and goat cheese bruschetta, it was good but lots of tomatoes when that wasn't part of the menu description. Then the chicken and beets salad...tasty and a good portion but very dry even with extra dressing. But here is my reason for 2 stars. I'm a single female and the only person inside the restaurant. Music is up super loud for the "crowd" and the staff was having their own little party back of house. And a cook was POUNDING on something that would have hit a home run in baseball. I work in food service so I'm very familiar with how things should go and know when it's a simple mistake or a culture issue. I honestly hope an owner or diligent manager reads this review and can make some corrective actions. I really wanted to like this place since it's on my way home. Perhaps I'll try the other location and see if it's a culture issue here or just the way things are. Would I eat here again...maybe when it's not so hot and humid and can sit outside. read more

This was my first time here, there wasn't many indoor seating so we had to sit outside on a cold day; however there were heaters outside. The service was pretty fast, but water tasted funny. The food was amazing, I liked how they actually put cinnamon on the french toast. I cant stop thinking about it. I will definitely be coming back here. So I was basic and got a burger which was actually pretty good. It had that chargrilled taste to it, make sure you add cheese and do the truffle fries. Environment was not the greatest so I'm unsure of people mentioning the "vibe" definitely comparable to an old diner and pretty small as well. Delicious peach Bellini's. Coming from the foody Mekka L.A. to Houston for just a few business days, I found it rather difficult to locate any reasonable and appealing restaurants within reasonable distance to the convention center district. The District 7 Grill provided indoor and outdoor seating, reasonable breakfast menu selections (see photo), at a low price. A friend took me here about a year before the Covid shutdown and was excited when they opened up for indoor dining again. Their food is delicious and I have given them rave reviews often. Tonight, however, was not a good experience. I had the pork osso bucco with risotto and asparagus. Everything was delicious. I ate half my plate and was planning on having leftovers tomorrow. I told the server that I wanted it to go and even made hand gesture for a to go box. When he never came back with it, I asked him and found out that he had not heard me. He said he would see what he could do. He came back and said they would give me some "meat" (not osso bucco). I got a small container with a couple of spoonfuls of potroast(?). Iasked where was the risotto? He said they would have to make some more. I got a small container of risotto that did not look at all like the leftover on my plate that was soaked the sauce. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! Any other restaurant would have either replaced the meal or comped it. I would have even been happier had I just paid for half the meal. read more

Food presentation was great. I ordered mine without sauerkraut. I took a bite and it was sour :( I lifted my eggs and there was think shreds of what I thought was sauerkraut. I informed the waiter and he offered to replace it...great right? He quickly returned to tell me that what I was seeing was cheese and returned with the same plate. I found myself going back and forth with the server a bit and decided to have him take it away. He did offer to get me anything g else but I was taken back by the lack of service when we walked in and were not greeted and had to ask if it was "seat yourself." Then it took long for the initial greet. Mind you the place is small and had about five table inside and two out on the patio when we arrived. My coffee was lukewarm. We could over hear of waiter talk about his wild night on the town not getting home u til 5am and then had to come to work that morning. Totally explains the lack of service we received. Not a place I have to come back or will I recommend for anyone to go as a - have to try. My husband said his omelet and waffle were very good. He ate the entire meal. It was also hot and muggy inside Indicating the AC was not working properly and propping the front door open did not help. I came here on a Sunday with friends for brunch and had a great experience. We sat outdoors since the weather was nice and found out the place was dog friendly! I ordered the pork ribeye and eggs, which tasted great. Sunny side up eggs were cooked to perfection, potatoes tasted fantastic, but the sausage was pretty disappointing. My girlfriend ordered the crab cake and eggs, which was average. We also shared a waffle, which wasn't crispy on the outside. It tasted like a pancake, but I still enjoyed it. Came here recently for lunch. This place is located in the undergrounds of downtown. You order first, get a number and then your food is delivered to you. Quite straightforward. They're packed during lunch usually. My companion ordered the fish and ratatouille while I got the fish and pesto pasta. Both dishes were fantastic. I enjoyed it so much. Location is great for dining before an evening out in downtown Houston. There is ample parking in the small parking lot (oxymoron, I know but it's true). As soon as you step in, the restaurant is turned into a cute little diner with a full bar, super comfy booths and an outside patio. I got the Kobe Japanese beef burger for $15 and hubby got the pork chop sandwich. Both entrees were decent. The burger was satisfying but could have used a few more burger fixings instead of just the caramelized onions and sauce. Called in a order of wings to go. When I arrived to pickup my order, I decided to stay and have lunch there since it wasn't crowded. I was then told that I couldn't eat my lunch there because I placed the order to go. I asked the waitress why they have a policy like that because I was still buying their food. She did not provide a reason other than that's the policy. I then told her that they can keep their food and I would eat elsewhere. Not only did they not sell the food, They also lost the opportunity for the waitress to get a tip. An improvement on the Cafe Express theme located just South of the GRB, but not for the indecisive. This is a great little restaurant with an imaginative, yet down home-style menu. I usually find about five different things I want to order, but most of the time I order one of their pastas (tasty pesto), or I do a sandwich like the muffaletta with a chunky olive relish or the Chicken Reuben with a nice field green salad. Don't miss the steak fries that comes with burgers and sammies. I usually am not a big fries person, but the ones here are hearty, crispy and tasty at the same time. The restaurant is counter service where you get a number and the food is brought to your table. Inside is somewhat small with a lot of old Houston photographs and memorabilia. The outside patio is twice as large under a huge, beautiful oak tree (this is usually where you'll find me). From sandwiches to entrees, most things run from 8 to 11 dollars. Not bad for the quality and quantity of the food. This is a lunch hour only restaurant. While it can get crowded, it still is a easy in and out kind of place. The food comes out hot and fast for the most part. It's where I go when I want tasty meal on a plate for not a lot of money. I've gotta be honest, I only ended up here because The Breakfast Klub had a line that wrapped around the building. But with that being said, I must admit that the breakfast I had here was out-freaking-standing. Tons of options. So many, actually, that I had a hard time deciding. Sandwiches, omelets, burgers, etc. I ended up summoning a "breadfast" with steak, onions, shrooms, cilantro and cheese on a pita bread, served taco-style. It was served with a side of extremely fresh fruit and a souffle cup of some tangy salsa that complimented the breakfast sandwich perfectly. We ordered: -creamy ginger mussels (regular menu) -HRW starter- panko shrimp & tuna tartar -HRW main- pork shank osobuco & salmon -HRW dessert- bread pudding & crème brulee The mussels were very good, nice and big portion, and plenty of sauce to dip the pita bread in. The panko shrimp seemed to be battered in a corn meal rather than panko nonetheless big size shrimp. Tuna tartar was about 5/6 chips with the tartar on top of each piece. The main dishes were huge portions with comforting sides of veggies and mashed potatoes. Not Very impressed with the food at all, I asked for scrambled eggs and I received fried and I can't stand fried eggs. Ugh it makes my stomach just upset when I see the yolk run out of an egg. The only thing I can say is that the Bellini was amazing for the price and very tasty. My boyfriend mom wasn't to happy about her shrimp and grits, they where very bland, and had to add a lot of shrimp to them. I will say I won't be coming back here for brunch ever. read more

I just wish they delivered (minus 1 star) Over my past few visits I've had the Asian Seared Salmon, Toga burger, and shrimp salad. Their Salmon is great; it's not too "fishy" and not too "slimy" underneath. If you don't know to what I'm referring, then good for you. You've had good fish before. Their burgers, as mentioned by other reviewers, are delicious! This particular burger has pesto in it! It just takes it up a notch in classiness! And, their shrimp salad was perfect; I didn't feel shortchanged on the shrimp or the leafy parts, which was nice. Also, free soft serve ice cream for those who need it. Found this place while randomly playing in midtown Houston. My friends and I couldn't decide if we wanted breakfast or lunch, so we did both! First, the drinks.... Mimosas and poinsettias were $2 each. Well worth the two bucks. We had several to say the least. Frozen peach bellini was everything then more! Parking sucks and the seafood had some San but that's the only 2 downfalls. We ordered several pasta options: Paella, pappardelle, Parmesan crusted chicken, and the blackened mahi mahi Picatta. Reminds me a lot of Beck's Prime. A place where you have the broad choice of all kinds of tasty dishes. They're not all perfectly executed, but well enough considering you can get a foi gras topped burger, seared ahi tuna, artisinal salad, pasta, or fried saefood all at the same place. If you're with a group of people looking for a good lunch that covers everyone's cravings, you'll probably be safest heading here. Exterior of this District 7 again reminds me of Beck's Prime, with a good sized outdoor patio nestled underneath a large sprawling tree. Inside is smaller and more casual compared to the downtown location. You walk up to the counter to order and take a number for your food. Table tops are tiled and laid back. Service was prompt, but you don't get waiter service after the food shows up. There's a station for utensils, condiments and drinks, so it's pretty straightforward. All in all good quick lunch spot with a wide variety to pick from on the menu. read more

I wasn't disappointed because I loved the salad I ordered. I ordered the panko chicken salad (if I recall correctly this was the name) and it tasted fresh with a good amount of vinaigrette. The placed was pretty full by 12ish but there was sufficient space and outdoor seating. It's setup like counter service but they have staff delivering food which was very helpful. Flavors were good, not amazing. I also ordered the flat bread with the onions and foie gras.. Didn't really like it. The foie gras was gooey and the flavors were a little bitter and off. We were in Houston with our dog and needed a place that had a dog friendly patio to eat. District 7 was close by and we decided to try it out. The breakfast food (pancakes, eggs, bacon, French toast) looked delicious and my kids loved it. I had a bunless burger and a salad and it was OK. This place looks like a traditional shiny metal walled dinner but has a patio out front. It's in midtown so it's a nice walkable neighborhood. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and they included the gratuity on the bill??? Seriously? I thought that was strange. Not a fan of an auto tip when it's just my family. I believe the server should deserve their tip and in this case he did. But what if the service was bad? I understand when it's a large group but this wasn't the case. Other than the auto tip it's a good place to have a bloody mary and some brunch. You lose a star due to the automatic gratuity. read more
