I am a single woman who had a plumbing issue. The flush valve on the toilet continued to run wasting water. I called Dittmann plumbing and asked the cost of a visit. The basic cost was expensive but I expected it because I asked. However I didn't expect to be exploited by padding the bill with erroneous charges listed under extra time when the plumber was in my home one hour .The cost of the parts were not listed. The extra $170 was under extra time. Maybe I was paying for after 5pm visits because he didn't show up until an hour after the scheduled appointment window. read more

Be extremely cautious with Dittman. These guys are con artists. They take advantage of the elderly. My mom is a great example. The charged her $162/hour which was reportedly a discount from their more than $200/hour charge. Nearly $900 later, my mom's problem was corrected. What do you think Dittman's profit was on that job? My mom did not have the capacity to properly shop competing plumbing co's for if she had, she would have found the next highest charge in the area was $120. When I asked Dittman to reduce their hourly charge on my mom's bill to the next highest market rate, they refused. When I told them I'd contact the Better Business Bureau and the Council on Aging, they were indignant. So be warned, Dittman Plumbing has no character, integrity or class. read more

This is my first review on Yelp. I have used it quite a bit, but was always too lazy to write a review. The reason I write this time is to make sure no one falls into the same trap I did with this company. I had a severe clog in my bathroom, and a plumber I used was not able to open it. I got a contact of a good plumber, and he referred me to Dittmann. I called them to explain the situation, and they promised to send the best person they have. The charge was stiff, $120 an hour + $60 for travel, but I agreed to pay as I knew it was a tough one. I was a little suspicious when the plumber who came by only used a manual snake, and indeed after trying for a while he gave up and told me he cannot open it, and I should call the office for next steps. I called the office, and they said they need to open the wall in order to proceed. I agreed, and the person returned, opened the wall, installed a clean-out, and failed to open it, again telling me to call the office for next steps. During my conversation with the plumber, I found out he does not work for the company, as he is just a loaner - so much for promising to send me their best expert. At that point, I figured out this leads me nowhere, and I called a contractor, who removed a piece of the floor, replaced the pipe, and removed the unnecessary clean-out installed by Dittmann. This solved the problem for me, and I was sorry that I didn't call him before the stiff $655.45 charge for diagnostics and unnecessary work I was charged by Dittmann. Looking through the yelp review, I can see some are very happy with the service, while other are very disappointed as I am. My advice would be, not to use them, unless you're sure about the person who comes, and their ability to to the job. read more

I'd rate this company 5 stars except for their prices. $210 for a one hour minimum service call. I had a blocked toilet. The service person called to say he had some time available, and came several hours earlier than scheduled. He fixed the blockage and removed scrape marks that I had made when I tried to fix it myself. So I'm very satisfied with the work, but would not call them again because of their high charges. read more

Why, oh why did I wait to call Dittmann Plumbing? A seemingly simple job to fix the faucet on 2 bathroom sinks cost me $50.00 in unused parts, 3 false starts with 2 different handy men and 1 plumber left me with no hot water working for several weeks. UGH! Finally, I contacted Dittmann. I spoke to Maria on Friday. She was so understanding, pleasant and helpful on the phone. I took pictures of the handles and she had a plumber scheduled for Monday. Ryan came by Monday to check the rest of the faucet. He ordered the parts and returned Thursday. My faucets are fixed! It took him 10 minutes max. It is wonderful that knowledge, the proper tools and correct parts resulted in a "quick fix". Ryan is very professional, kind and careful when he was working. I recommend Dittmann for any plumbing problem. No job is too big or too small. I really appreciate the quality service. read more

We had to replace bathroom fixtures in a condo that had not been lived in for 8 years. We called Dittman's because of their expertise with condo plumbing. Rich came to our rescue. Not only did he do an excellent job but he came back to finish the job on the eve of the 4th of July weekend. I highly recommend Dittmann plumbing - particularly if you are not really knowledgeable about plumbing! Dittmann Plumbing is a professionally run small business with skilled plumbers who are as concerned about the cleanliness and safety of my home as I am. I've been using Dittmann for years, whenever I had a plumbing issue. They were contracted with my HOA but apparently lost the contract to another plumber that was cheaper. I tried the other plumber a couple times and it was those trials that made me realize how excellent Dittmann is! First, there is Maria in the front office. Maria is a delight! She is extremely personable, conveys empathy for my problems and really tries to find efficient, effective resolutions far beyond simply scheduling a plumber. Most recently, I had a larger job that was going to take a few hours, so she made sure to schedule me first thing in the morning so that I could still get in a half-day of work. All of the plumbers that have been to my house seem to be very experienced and extremely passionate about plumbing! In the most recent visit, Dave went overboard trying to explain my plumbing to me, despite the fact that I am apparently plumbing-impaired and did not really follow the explanation about escutcheons and shark bite valves (??) The team of plumbers at Dittmann have saved me three times over!!! First visit was to fix a leaking kitchen faucet - arrived and fixed the same day. Second visit was to fix a broken water heater - replaced with a new one within 24hrs. Third visit was to fix a my laundry drain that had no clean out. Great guys! Great service! It took 2 guys to fix whatever was going on in my sink but they did it and made everything better! I couldn't be more pleased. I would definitely trust this company to come back (tho I hope I don't need them to). The guys that came out were Rich and (I think his name was) Mike. Company was recommended to me by my HOA. He worked into the dark to fix the problem. He was running late that day so he called me to let me know and did not charge me any after hours fees. On October 14 my kitchen faucet went kaput. I went out and bought a new one. Meanwhile I was without water at my kitchen sink. On Friday, October 15, I called Dittman Plumbing and spoke to Maria (very nice person) and made the first available appointment which was for the following Monday. I told Maria I would be without water at my kitchen sink all weekend and she told me she would do her best and if there were a cancellation they would try and fit me in. Later that day, I received a call that one of their plumbers, Dave, could come out that Friday afternoon and install my new faucet. Yea! Dave arrived on time and did a really good, neat job. I have used this company for many years and was completely satisfied. That was before the change of ownership. Today I called in to ask them to send me 2 invoices because I had work done on properties where I wasn't present and paid by credit card over the phone, but never received an invoice. It was like I was talking a different language that they didn't seem to understand. Then the man I was talking with had Marie get on the phone. She started out the conversation with "I don't know what you want, but I'll try and help you". Hmmm, is that good customer service???? I don't think so! Then I tried to explain that I just needed them to send out invoices for work that was completed. It's not rocket science! But Marie didn't seem to know what I was talking about or wasn't interested in helping and continued with her bad attitude. Then she hung up on me! I called back and couldn't get through for a while. When I finally got through the man said I couldn't talk to Marie because she was too upset and couldn't talk with me. Wow, are you people kidding!!! What kind of business is this where they can't even try to resolve a simple issue. Makes me really wonder what kind of business they are running. Anyway, I am done with Dittmann Plumbing. Maria who is the owner and who answers the phone very Timely was very kind and said that she would get back to me as soon as she had someone to help me. The gentleman came out and fixed my leak within 20 minutes we're very professional and the problem was fixed completely. I would highly recommend this company to take care of any Plumbing issues in San Mateo or in the nearby peninsula. Very professional very timely and cost-effective thank you. my wife called to fix a slow running water line. the guy replaced everything up to, but not including the problem. when i called in, as other reviewers have stated, the lady was quite rude. eventually, they had me just talk to the plumber himself, who said "well it was a lot of work". now everytime i use the (still slow running) water, i'm froced to remember how i spent $350 for nothing. read more

Horrible business ethic. They came in to inspect our plumbing, without even letting us know how much the inspection was, they quoted us $250 just for the inspection and for tightening some bolts. They then tried to up sell us by telling us we needed to replace some perfectly working parts. Had another plumber come in the next day and they quoted us $125 to replace a pipe with a crack in it. I called Dittman plumbing for an emergency, the faucet handle in my shower wasn't working & company was expected that evening. The repairman came, took off the handle and said it was "old & stripped" (this I knew) and couldn't be repaired only GLUED to get us through the emergency. The faucet handle, his tools and a rag are in the floor in the bathroom and he tells me the super glue he has with him isn't strong enough, he has to go back to the shop for "gorilla glue". He leaves, 45 minutes pass, 1 hour passes, finally after 1 hr 15 min. he returns. He isn't carring any thing, No gorilla glue. He uses the super glue he originally brought with him and is done in less than 5 minutes. I ask what took so long, for him to return and was told, "he had to unload a truck". In about a week I get a bill for $148.00, I send a check & a note that say's, "I wouldn't recommend a plumber who leaves a simple glue job that took less than 5 minutes and returns 1hr 15 min later." The boss ? Frank calls & says, they had to consult and TAKE APART the handle, (WHICH NEVER LEFT MY HOUSE). If Frank, the owner simply apologized instead of lying and adding insult to injury by more BS-ing, this would have been a different review. read more

They charged us $250 for a QUOTE without telling us in advance that they would be charging. Their quoted rate was way above what other companies quoted. Im new to yelp. I have used this company for many years with good service and quality. I cannot recommend them any longer as I did before. You can contract them and get good service and quality still...just get a written quote first. My last service the fellow refused to give an estimate but I trusted the company. Ready?.... I got my shower head and handle replaced. ( I bought the hardware so it was labor only) . My bill was over $1,200. When I got the bill, I called them as there has been some kind of mistake. No, they charge $150 per hour plus portal to portal, plus time to go get parts, plus every 5 cent item on the invoice. Obviously an incentive to work slow without a quote. I can't not pay cause of the law...they will put a lien on your home for not paying. Wow. I will never not get a quote again. Good quality work, but buyer beware. read more

When Mike, The Plumber arrived- he was right on time, up front about the costs, and he cleared the line (that was blocked by tree roots) within an hour. If you have a difficult plumbing problem, these are the guys you want on the job. Highly trained and experienced with a lot of different ways to get at a problem. A bit more expensive, but well worth it. They were very up front about the costs. I would not use Dittmann Plumbing. I asked for a estimate to replace the shut off valves under each sink in my house. As precaution since my friend's house got flooded when a shut off valve broke, so I thought I should look into replacing all 9 shut off valves in my house. Dittmann Plumbing tried to sell me the "heavy duty commercial valves" and telling me those are the only ones they use at $40 each. They wanted $1980 to replace 9 shut off valves telling me that they have to do this and that etc.... This comes to $220 to replace each valve. Really? Previously, I had someone who was installing new floor in my bathrooms, and he replaced the shut off valves to two toilets because he said they were dripping when he shut them off to remove the toilets. He went to Home Depot and buy the valves at $20 each and never charged me for doing that, and I did pay for the cost of the two valves, but I doubt he would charge $220 for each one. Later, I found out I didn't even need to replace the shut off valves, but only to turn them on and off monthly. Dittman Plumbing off course never offered that advice. read more

His repair involved researching a discontinued model and ordering replacement parts from the manufacturer that he then modified to fit our shower. This work was above and beyond anything other plumbers have done! We are really grateful for this level of effort, since it saved us from tearing out the tile to replace the shower! read more

I live in Belmont, and have used Dittman Plumbing for five years, but really appreciated them last week. I got home after a day away and found that I had no hot water - pilot light was out on the water heater. I called in the late afternoon, and Marie scrambled to find someone to get right out for me. I had a hot shower that night. The company has done significant repairs for me over the years as well, and Frank has been a stand-out. If you want the job done right call Dittmann Plumbing. I first called what I though was a professional plumber to fix the toilet. It would not flush on the first flush. He came out and said he fixed the problem. I had to call him back and he came out and said problem solved. The problem was not fixed so I called Dittmann plumbing where our church calls and they identified the problem and solved the flushing issue. and now we are ready for our summer party with no toilet problems.
