We were super excited to experience this place for the first time and were completely let down. Walked in and it was a bit empty but we still sat at the bar and were looking at all the decor and the big tank above the bar. But the service was horrible to say the least. It seems like the bartender "Nemo" had people he knew at the bar and completely ignored us no matter how many times he walked by. But as soon as another person he knew walked in, he quickly got his drink for him and still never looked our way. He was too busy trying to be Mr cool it looked like and whoever the girl was that was bartending didn't seem to care about us either. She looked like she was counting her tips and ignored us also. My friends told me about this place, but i never usually go to bars since I'm too shy to be drinking out. Anyway when you walk in, there should be a mirror and if you look up there's Jellyfishes! I thought they were so pretty and they're nice to look at. The drinks were good but they just taste like regular cocktails/drinks in general. I am not a big fan of places that smells fishy so I couldn't really enjoy my drink, obviously knowing it's a Dive Bar. I still went otherwise! The mermaids were beautiful and I enjoyed the show! DON'T go here unless you want to be discriminated against and singled out. Went there for the first time and one of the security gaurds kept picking on my partner. He was simply in line for the restroom, not bothering anyone and not too intoxicated to the point where he was harming or being messy and the security person kept telling him "you need to leave". Later on in the night, my partner goes back in line to the restroom again, and the same guy says "you need to go". Without any reasoning behind it, he continues to harass my partner when he is minding is own. We end up leaving due to being irritated by this and even mentioned to the outside security of what was going on, but they didn't even seem to care. The same dude who was harassing us had the nerve to reach out to one of our friends before we left, and told him "your friend can't come back here". Again, with no context. I just want to know why he felt the need to bother us again, when we were already heading out anyways, on our own account. Anyways, -10/-10 NOT recommend. Vibes weren't all that anyways. You're better off at any other spot, to be honest. So annoying how this guy kept buggin, when we were just vibing. read more

What can you say, it's a bar with mermaids in a tank. Pretty cool. The mermaids weren't super impressive though. Like I didn't see anyone drink a coke underwater like I saw at Weeki Wachi springs in Florida. After the mermaid show, they opened up a dance floor. It wasn't my favorite style of dancing (I like indie dancing) but it made the place more interesting. I think most people who are curious about what this place is like should check it out. read more

I went to see the Kings game before going to Dive Bar with my coworkers. I was told I had to take my Kings beanie off to fit dress code. I walk into Dive Bar and see at least 3 MEN wearing beanies & many others wearing hats. I was approached 3 times about this beanie while others were still wearing hats & finally said well then return my drink & luckily the nice bartender let me stay with my beanie & drink intact. I have never in my years of outings in Sacramento downtown have ever felt so embarrassed in an establishment. If the beanie was a big deal, I should have never been allowed in the establishment in the first place. Especially considering that once upon entering, seeing many other men with beanies on. This was degrading & unacceptable from a local business. I would never recommend anyone I know to come to this bar after my experience tonight. read more

Had a blast coming here. I arrived on a Saturday night. Not sure if this is still the case, but at the time they didn't have a menu and were accepting requests for drinks. I ordered a pineapple vodka and it was good enough. Mermaid show starts at 8:30 pm. What an elegant and entrancing experience!!! She was in the water for a really long time and super interactive with the crowd. It's very spacious inside and on theme decor which I appreciate. Enjoy the underwater sea theme and get lost in it. Very roomy for dancing, just try not to fall over... At 8:30, they remove the stools and dim the lights so it's more of a club vibe. The shelves are slanted, so be careful putting your drink there cause it'll slip and fall. Would come back if I'm ever in Downtown Sac again! read more

We flew into Sacramento as a stop before driving up north to the lost coast. We stayed one night and decided to check out the Dive Bar. It did not disappoint. Super fun watching the five bar shows. We didn't have any good so I can't review that, but the service was great for drinks as we chilled and watched the swimmers. They are very talented. This place is too cool. There is a giant fish tank above the bar that someone swims in dressed as a mermaid. The drunker you get the cooler it is. The bartenders here are so friendly and generally fun to be around. The drinks here are so good and they are heavy handed. The night we went they were also walking shots around to promote a new liquor in the bar. The shots were free, but you obviously need to tip! read more

Been here before, and dragged my co-worker here based on my positive experience from before. The staff is still friendly, the beers are still good, but now the place (at least during this visit) has a few individuals looking to cause trouble. On multiple occasions we were minding our own business and were harassed by a high and/or drunk character trying to pick a fight. He seemed to be very well known in the bar. We finally left through the back door to avoid confrontation. And we did nothing to bring this upon ourselves. I hope this place gets control of their clientele as it can be a great place. read more

We came for the mermaids, and guess what? NO MERMAIDS AFTER 11 PM. Despite this, it was a nice little place. I came on a Thursday night which is apparently Throwback Thursday. The music was cool but there were some songs that you couldn't really dance to. It wasn't super crowded which made ordering drinks super quick and easy! There was no cover, but I don't know if this was just because it was Thursday, or if it's a normal thing. I'm disappointed to see this place is so underrated!! While it's been a few years since I've been here, I used to frequent this place and always enjoyed coming here. The drinks are strong, the mermaid shows are awesome, adding to the cool theme and ambiance, and the bartenders are always quick and attentive (and serve very strong drinks -- I swear they only pour a touch of mixer.) However, this place does get packed and there's very little ventilation. It didn't help that there were only two bartenders, but it's not like there was a ton of people either, therefore service should've been better. The bar is very small and dark. Came here for the mermaids but stayed for the dancing. My friend and I came on a Saturday night around 9:30 and there was a very short line to get in. There was a $5 cover which I reluctantly paid, since we weren't planning to stay for too long. I was primarily interested in watching the mermaid show, and according to the schedule posted on their website, there were shows quite frequently on Friday and Saturday nights. The mermaid came out soon after we entered and it was an interesting experience seeing a real 'mermaid' swim around. Kudos to these performers for being able to hold their breath for so long at a time! Eventually it gets a little old, since there's only so much they can do other than some swimming tricks and posing with different props, but it was still pretty cool to watch. At a later point, both a mermaid AND merman came out at the same time! That was definitely my favorite part, seeing both of them together. There isn't much room for them to interact unfortunately, as the tank is quite small, but I still enjoyed it. Eventually the open area of the bar turned in a dance floor where everyone was jiving to the DJ's tunes. This was an unexpected turn of events, but we went with it and joined in on the fun! At that point, I decided to get a drink to help get me into the right mood :) A rum and coke here (with a very generous pour of rum I might add) was $8, which was cheaper than I'm used to coming from SF. We ended up staying here for a good 1.5 hours and had a blast. Not bad for just $5! read more

I'll be honest I hear dive bar and this is not the location that comes to mind. You here dive bar your immediately thinking hole in the wall, will drinks then some questionable food options. THIS IS PLACE IS AWESOME and the dive is the aquarium theme to it all. There are FREAKING MERMAIDS SWIMMING ABOVE THE BAR! That was a direct quote from a patron there. During my visit I stopped in twice because it had such a great vibe. I mean let's be real with bar have you ever been to that has a giant tank above the bar with real fish in people dressed as mermaids interacting with the crowd. The whole tank is lit up and changes with the shows on the hour. Let's be honest review should Andrade here, but they've got some solid drinks that they are pouring as well. There was live DJ both nights and the place just had great atmosphere. The space around the bar can get a bit full because everyone wants to see the show, but great space for you and group to hang in the front back. Do yourself a favor next time you're in Sacramento and get in here. read more
