Diwan Coffee Shop is a gem of a coffee shop that is full of unique and delicious drinks and bites. I love that all their lattes can be made with coffee or matcha. My favorite that I've tried so far are the knafe and baklawa lattes. They also have the absolute best Knafe! The cheese and zaatar pastries are also delicious. The ambiance of the space is so warm and welcoming. I love that it is family owned because you can feel the passion and purpose in this coffee shop!! The service is phenomenal- everyone was so welcoming. As a Palestinian in the diaspora- this coffee shop felt like a piece of home!! Look at that green color- it's divine, TRULY!!! I wanted to check this place out a few weeks ago because I wanted to try a new cafe and it certainly didn't disappoint. The people who work there are down to earth, really refreshing considering the influx of cafes that opened this past year that exude exclusive snob behavior- apologies for language. Anywho, they had flavors you certainly wouldn't find in your average third wave cafe which I have yet to try. I just wanted a simple matcha latte, and they delivered for sure. While there is Dote a few blocks down, I think people would also like Diwan and their unique selection. Oh, and I don't know what the fragrance is in the shop, it is noticeable but I found it pleasant! I'm not sure if it's a specific herb or spice, but it's almost... minty? Man, I don't know how to describe it but it's again very pleasant. Lastly, it seems like a nice place to study and do work. It's peaceful, with the workers chatting and music playing, it's cozy! I like it! I haven't had the need to do work at a cafe but I think this place would be a good option if you want a new study spot and happen to be in the area. Parking is a little iffy? As you can see in the pic I parked on the side of the road but sometimes the streets will be taken up which leaves you to park in the parking garage right next to the cafe, which unfortunately charges for parking past 15 minutes. If you don't mind paying, or think you can make it back to your car on time, then it's not that big of a deal. Either way, you could probably find another street to park on and walk to the cafe as this district is pretty walkable. Overall, love it!!! Good specialty lattes! I really enjoy the Ward latte (strong pistachio flavor). Also tried Baklawa (cardamom) and one other one (orange and dark chocolate). All the different flavors are well paired and unique from other coffee shops. Selection of pastries is ok - not a big breakfast place. Not a huge space, so I wouldn't prefer to hang out for too long, just grab and go. If you really want, maybe 1:1 but definitely not a big group nor is a good spot to work from. Few spots of street parking, but there's a free parking lot you can park in instead. read more

Parking in the Spring District can be tough. Server seemed very nice, took our order for a Spanish Latte (sweetened condensed milk) and hot chocolate, and called out each drink as they were very slowly made (rather than having both drinks served together). Neither drink was hot; neither was strong. The latte wasn't milky or sweet, but the coffee was ok. The hot chocolate tasted like a powdered drink mix you can get at a grocery store. The cups are great - the textured outside is easy to grip. The room is cozy looking and I like the decor. But the seats aren't very comfortable. The room didn't seem heavily perfumed when I walked in, but the scent became overwhelming after I'd been sitting for a few minutes. We've seen this new coffee shop and wanted to stop in to try their unique coffee flavors. We looked over their menu and decided on two popular drinks: Knafa Latte and Pistachio Rose White Mocha Latte, we also ordered two Zaatar croissants (we wanted to try other items on the menu but they were out of stock. Service was on the slower side, I think that's a combination of being a newer shop with newer staff. However, the employees were extremely helpful and friendly. Our drinks were great, the rose syrup in both drinks was slightly overpowering but overall the drinks were good. I feel that for the pistachio latte - a pistachio cold foam would elevate the flavor as pistachio was minimal and same with the knafa latte - a cheese cold foam would elevate the flavors giving a full knafa taste. The croissant was an actual croissant cut in half, topped with Zaatar and filled with Zaatar, arugula, tomato and cucumbers... it was ok. Seating inside is plentiful despite the fact that the coffee shop looks smaller and the decor gives Arabia vibes. Overall, nice new coffee shop and I'd be back to try other items once they have them in stock. read more

Unusual offerings but extremely well done - great international coffee versions and tasty treats

Such a delicious, cozy, and beautiful coffee shop! From the moment we stepped in, the staff were so welcoming and engaging. We throughly enjoyed their recommendations on what to order. We had three different lattes: vanilla, knafeh, and Baklawa. Ordered two pastries: knafeh and the gluten free chocolate cake. There are so many more things I want to try and will be back again. The only thing that you need to prepare yourself for is parking. Many of the garages around the area had "parking garage full" signs. We were able to find parking but it took some searching. Well worth the scavenger hunt. read more

Everything was 12/10, from the drinks and pastries to the kind and helpful owners and staff. There is plenty of comfy seating, making this place perfect for studying, playing games, or just chatting. Highly recommend this family-owned Palestinian cafe! The Yemeni coffee they use is strong & the flavors all work well together. The matcha is dark & you can tell it's great quality. The pistachio croissant had pistachio cream inside & on top; it was the perfect sweetness level :) They also had homemade cookies from a local baker (not pictured but also so good!). Inside is very cozy & cutely decorated with Palestinian decor. The service was quick & the baristas are all so friendly and welcoming. Last month I went to this coffee shop and ordered Turkish coffee. It was good, and the size of the pot was around 8 oz. Today we went back and ordered the same thing. First, it took more than 15 minutes to prepare the coffee in hot sand. Ironically, we also ordered a warm pastry, and they brought the pastry about 10 minutes before the coffee. What's the point of a warm pastry without coffee? It just sat there getting cold. That part was annoying, but I could overlook it. What really bothered me, and honestly disgusted me, was the coffee size. The pot we received today was literally about half the size, at most around 5 oz. It felt like they quietly reduced the portion while charging the same price. Even that might have been understandable with rising prices, but then we noticed the table next to us had the same Turkish coffee pot in the larger size, just like we received last month. That's when it became unacceptable. Either they didn't have the proper pot for our order and still charged full price, or they were inconsistent and unfair between customers. Both situations feel dishonest. This kind of misleading and inconsistent service is extremely disappointing. I left feeling frustrated and disgusted, and I will not be going back. read more

Just off the bat, any places in this area are meant only for those close by and walking. I think we spent 30-40 mins finding parking because there very few spots. How do we know in advance, we would've never come here! The actual place was OK but not amazing. The coffee was ok but the food was disappointing since we had to ask to reheat it a few times. Con: (PLEASE FIX) I saw the barista not wash the blender after they prepared my drink and was sitting there for...a good while. Last time I got the iced kunafe matcha latte, my sister got the iced ward latte and my brothers the baklava latte. We also got the pistachio croissant which was delicious. Beautiful coffee shop and delicious specialty drinks! I came in on a rainy Friday and tried the Baklawa Latte with matcha and the Ward Latte. Excellent flavors! Service was relaxed and the baristas seemed genuinely kind and friendly. It felt like a neighborhood gathering place, with customers coming in for a treat and a chat, not grabbing coffee and running for the sake of caffeine.
