Solid gyro here. I've stopped by a couple of times for a "to-go" super gyro which includes extra meat and costs just under $10. Definitely filling enough that I don't need a side. Toppings include white onion, tzatziki, a couple slices of tomato but the generous portion of crispy and well seasoned meat is the real star. Service is quickly and friendly! I recently bookmarked all of the chili parlors in the Cincinnati area and made a plan to visit them all. They are a block from Dixie Chili which was so good, I was concerned for Gourmet. They have no worries. Gourmet held their own. They also have a nice breakfast menu I am going to have to check out sometime. The guy next to me got biscuits and gravy and he said it was legit. I ordered two chili cheese sandwiches and a Pepsi. The chili was very good. I love that combo of chili, fresh cut onions, mustard, and cheese. I never get the hot dog because I haven't found a place that serves anything other than those cheep tubed bologna kind of dogs. If someone offered a good all beef dog with some snap to it, they would own this city in my opinion. That's how they do coneys in Detroit. Amazing. Anyway, the food is really good here. I cant wait to come back and try their breakfast. The place looked clean, the service was friendly. They are still living in a cash only world in a mostly cashless society but they had an ATM. Can't beat this place with a covid fueled stick. It's a classic spot that's always the same everytime you go back. The owner's a wonderful person and a kind heart. I made the mistake of walking in with only credit cards once and he let me leave without paying. Trusting me to pay the next time and I sure did. The waitresses are also wonderful. I don't even know how they remember their customers even years hiatus from visiting but they do. There is no better run place in all of the Cincinnati area. Everything was excellent. Great food, excellent service and awesome coffee. i can't believe I have lived here for several years and that this is less then 3 miles from us and we have never been here.. crazy. Crazy good as everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. We started with a single cinnamon, powdered sugar pancake and it was amazing. He and I split it and everything about it was right. Add a touch of syrup combined with a the cinnamon and powdered sugar and that it was perfectly cooked and it was just so dang good!! The only problem is that is was very filling and I ordered a full breakfast. lol I got the "special".. eggs, potatoes, bacon and toast ....the eggs were cooked exactly as I asked- and seasoned perfectly. The same with the potatoes and with the bacon they asked how I wanted it cooked. I love crispy bacon and I look forward to using the leftovers for a sandwich/BLT Due to the pancake, I took more then half of the meal home and I am looking forward to it for later... He got the vegetarian omelet and rye toast. He felt just as I did and everything was perfect! Exactly as he would have wanted. Thankfully the coffee was really, really good as well... literally everything went smoothly... I asked the cook on the way in what he suggested, and he was happy to answer.. our server was wonderful- as it turns out, both of them are part of the family that owns the restaurant. Really nice people and you can read their story on the menu :) We took home a couple of cookies- a lemon blueberry one that is so good! It's a bit like a muffin but as a cookie. We both enjoyed this cookie... the chocolate chip one is for our kiddo but it looks really good! Wow.. that was a delicious freakin gyro. Best I've ever had. I ate the whole thing even though it was the size of a chipotle burrito. The meat was nice and tender and the sauce had the perfect flavor. This was my first visit but I will definitely be back because I feel a new food addiction coming on. This diner is home to the $5.50 all-day breakfast special: 3 eggs your way, choice of meat, skillet potatoes, and toast. And what a great breakfast special it is! Gourmet Chili opens in the 1980s and they are still cooking on the same grill since then. Let's just take a moment to appreciate all the amazing flavors that have had time to develop on that grill; and you can really taste it. This place really knows how to cook some fried eggs! And I even spotted them throwing the bacon in the fryer to make it extra crispy. Yes please! The service truly can't be beat as they treat everyone who enters as if they were family. A lil' bit of Greece in downtown Newport. You remember the Greek restaurant sketches from the early years of Saturday Night Live?(cheeseburger! cheeseburger! cheeseburger!, not coke pepsi) this place reminded me a lot of it , but instead of cheeseburgers, they have gryos. i had the chili & a gryo and enjoyed both. the prices were low and the portions were good. and there was smoking but it didn't bother me. there was on the street parking and a little parking area just down the block. they also served breakfast all day and varied selection of sandwiches & side dishes. overall it was a good place to get a good meal at a great price. read more

Best breakfast I've had in a long time and they have goetta. Very friendly waitstaff. This was my first time and they treated me like I was a regular. Too bad I won't be able to return. After I ordered a guy sat next to me at the counter and lit a cigarette. I forgot you can do that in Newport. Nobody seemed to mind and then, as if on cue, just about every table lit up. The sad thing is that everyone had this ash-grey tone to their skin and just looked unhealthy. Go figure. I ate in record time and left after only about 20 minutes and now I reek of smoke. This is one of my favorite hometown restaurants. Have ate there as a kid, sometimes 1-2 times a week with my family or by myself. The gyro is lamb meat staked on top of a pita bread, with cheese, tomato and cucumber dressing. A different take on the gyro so good, you can't eat the gyro closed. The wildcat burger is named after the town school mascot. If you may not be a chili cheese fries person, the fries are yummy whether they be with a burger or a sandwich. Gourmet chili is locally owned by a Greek family, in which the two brothers are the chiefs .The staff are friendly. They serve breakfast, lunch and diner. Stop in to see what their specials are. If you want a cup of coffee after bar closing time, they are open. Dont have time, just call ahead for carry out. The only downside is they do not have a credit or debit card machine. So bring cash. If you so happen to not have cash in your wallet, banks are down the same street not far from the restaurant. If parking is taken up on the street in front, feel free to park in a lot a few businesses down. read more

The gyros are great and the best reason to eat at Gourmet Chili. I think that if you come here and order a chili dog that you can't write an accurate review. I'm not a big fan of any chili places in town. My husband has ruined the local chili places with his homemade three way chili. I think the food tastes the best when the owner or the other guy cooks. I don't prefer to eat if one of the lady servers are cooking. It just doesn't taste as good when they cook it. They do allow smoking but I don't think it is that bad. I had a few people with me and all of the tables were taken but 2 different regulars asked if they could give up their tables for us, wow that in itself was good ol' kentucky charm. Their gyro platters are amazing. Small dine in restaurant in Newport with the option to call in to go orders. I usually get the Gyro Platter with cheese (which includes fries), Cole slaw (of the options between Cole slaw, cottage cheese or extra fries) and a Mountain Dew. We had to hit Gourmet Chili after reading the Yelp reviews (We often drive through NewPort). It is a neighborhood chili joint with the usual formica tables and filled with people from the neighborhood. My wife ordered a double decker with ham,bacon & egg, it was nice & thick and (she said) tasted great. I ordered the gyro and cheese omelet, it had a large portion of lamb on the inside and was covered with cheddar cheese on top (same cheese as the chili dishes). Looking for local charm and we totally got it! Stopped for breakfast, could have lived without the smokers at the table next to us, but was obvious that this place caters mostly to locals. Breakfast was fast and hot, good but not great Goetta, we took some chili to go (and you need an interpreter to order the chili - 3 way/4 way/5 way) which wasn't my favorite chili ever but it was loaded with noodles which made up some ground with me personally. read more

This place is a hidden gem . we moved to the area a few years ago and this place is a favorite. My husband always gets the 3 way and he hasn't complained. I opt for the gyro. When we moved to this area we were drawn in to this little diner by the breakfast special sign in the window. We haven't stopped going since. Three eggs, goetta, toast and potatoes for less than $5 served quick and hot even when we have a group. Total throw back to days past Grill behind the counter, attentive friendly service and then there is the rest of the menu. Honest, good food that you can't believe so reasonable. We always give a big tip as the food is so cheap you would feel like you were robbing them. If you go a few times you will feel the genuine dedication the staff has to get you a quick, delicious, reasonable meal with very friendly service you will leave feeling happy and that's what bring us back. The smoke, none of us smoke and it can get very smokey if it is full of smokers with little room to escape. We generally sit near the door and the smokers usually go to the back but that is not a rule and if we feel like it will be too smoky or no seating we will sometimes head on north up Monmouth to one of the other diners. We like all the diners on the east side of the street and we seem to get in cycles of which one we visit which can sometimes be 4 or 5 times a week.
