    Hot dog all the way
    Chelsea R.

Kearney's drive in has been slinging sandwiches, burgers, and dogs since 1967. It's not much to look at but I've heard great things about their hot dogs and I heard too late that they have a delicious pimento cheese sandwich that I'll have to go back to try. The hot dog wasn't really anything special and I've definitely had better but I'd still like to go back and try some other menu items.

The best hotdog place around with a special sweetness to their homemade chili on the Carolina red!

Never judge a book by its cover. Since childhood, we've heard this over and over again. When we had a hankering for some hot dogs Saturday afternoon, my wife reminded me that the best place in Davidson County she had heard of was 'Kearneys'. When we pulled into the general parking area, my book by its cover mantra came back to haunt me. My initial thought was, 'Where the heck are we and what is this place?'. BUT, I encourage you to park your car, turn the ignition off, and do yourself a favor by strolling over to the walkup counter and order some of the best tasting hot dogs you've ever had. We can't always look to go 'national-chain' for our eating experiences; the local businesses rely on us for their existence and this was yet again, a pleasurable experience where my heart felt good for 'going local' and my tummy felt good for the savory sweet chili smothered over my 'Carolina Reds'. The location has been around since 1967 and was opened/owned by a former US Army First Sergeant Steve Koonts. Having earned multiply awards from the 'Winston Salem Dispatch' voted on by county residents, it seemed a solid choice. You get the hot dogs in an order of 4 each. Beef, pork, or Carolina Reds. We chose to pay a little extra to have cheddar cheese and this delicious sweet meat chili on top. An order of French fries with Old Bay seasoning generously sprinkled on top completed the small town afternoon lunch as we enjoyed it sitting in our car. The windows are adorned with print outs of the Hot Dog stand history, its awards, and the standard walkup window menu, but hey they even take Apple Pay so they are keeping up with the times! C'mon over to the corner of W. 6th St and Southbound St in Lexington. You won't be disappointed.

Little building. Don't judge a book by its cover

I've been eating here for about 40 years. Great hot dogs but the Kearney burger has no equal. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

The exterior is pretty unassuming, so I wasn't expecting to walk into such an awesome spot! From the super-friendly welcome from our smiling hostess, who seated us immediately, to our waitress, Carrie, who was incredibly nice and provided excellent service, everything was top-notch! I'm always on the hunt for the best club sandwich, and I can honestly say this was THE BEST club sandwich I've EVER had! It was so beautifully presented, it almost looked fake, but it was absolutely delicious. We also tried the Pick 3 appetizers and loved the fried mushrooms, southwest egg rolls, and bagel bites, and we had a burger too! We're so happy we found this place and can't wait to come back. 10/10!

There are tons of appetizers to choose from, which is great if you just want a drink and something small to eat. Regarding the entrees. Burgers, wings, wraps, and sandwiches dominate the menu. They do have a "plate" menu which has chicken and steak options. Nice variety, which includes a kids menu. I got the wings which are a solid 4 stars. Lots of flavors to choice from. I sampled my wife's Hamburger Steak plate and enjoyed it. Tons of beers (many regional) on the draft menu. 5 stars for their draft beer selection. Full bar if you want something harder or just having a bad day. Service was very good. No issues with the wait staff. So I know what you are thinking. "Overall a positive review Tim. Why not 5 stars?". It's freaking LOUD. At my table, we had to shout to carry on a conversation.

I walked in to a packed restaurant with a line almost out the door. The young lady at the counter tells me before I order there is a 30-40 minute wait on the food and while that sounds ridiculous, I drove all the way from Asheboro for one of their burgers because I already know it's worth the wait. No problem! The place is right off the main road and there's plenty of parking with additional parking in the rear. The inside appearance is that of a burger joint. Not too fancy but clean. I ordered the Jr. Cheeseburger with extra cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, mustard and mayo, a Hot Dog all the way, Seasoned fries and a Sweet Tea. Their burgers are served hot and are cooked until the edges are "lacy" and crispy with just the right amount of seasoning. They use potato buns and they and are so fresh and grilled on one side which gives the burger additional good flavor. The fries are cooked perfectly, served hot and lightly seasoned. And you can get some of their homemade ranch to dip them in. I know they are known for their burgers but they also have AWESOME Hot Dogs! The weiner is grilled and again, the bun is grilled on one side, just makes your tongue all kind of happy. I ordered my hot dog "All the Way" aka "Carolina Style". The chili was good, the white slaw was fresh and light, onions added a hint of sweetness, and the mustard ties all of the flavors together in a well made, high quality hot dog. They also have really good sweet tea. Nicks has the BEST burgers and hot dogs in the Triangle area and I highly recommend but get there as soon as they open or you may find yourself waiting in line. But do go.

The melted cheese was dripping over the sides, the bun was soft and fresh, and every bite just kept getting better. The fries deserved their own round of applause. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and so addictive I kept telling myself, "Just one more"... about 30 fries ago. I don't know what kind of magic they're working back there, but they absolutely nailed it. This wasn't one of those burgers you eat because you're hungry--this was the kind you eat in complete silence because you're too busy enjoying every bite. On top of the amazing food, the service was just as impressive. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience even better. They also have covered outdoor picnic tables with fans running overhead, which was a really nice touch. It made sitting outside comfortable even on a warm day and gave the place a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. Safe to say this place has officially ruined mediocre burgers for me. I'll definitely be back... and next time I might need two orders of fries because sharing isn't going to happen.

On my return visit, only a couple of months later, it was myself and a friend dining. While this particular rib-eye was much better than my first visit, the service was worse, the price of the same meal had jumped significantly also, so much so that my friend, who has been a LONG time supporter, even commented on the price of his dish. While the steak was good, the twice baked potatoes remain a mystery....I'm used to my 'twice baked' meaning there is much more effort put into them being prepared than simply resembling mashed potatoes with some (cheese) infused throughout ? In closing, I can't say the food was terrible but, the service was 180 degrees different from one visit to the other and the prices CERTAINLY did not measure up to the quality, portion size and service that I've experienced at other restaurants. I walked out of my last visit telling my friend, '"I just spent $53 (tip included) on a meal for one person, I think this will be my last visit here"
