Because I don't know how to fry chicken, there is an art to it, I checked out Dixons and was not disappointed. I think the bag keeps it crispy. Seasoned perfectly reminds me if my Moms fried chicken. Same thing goes for oysters and catfish. Sometimes you get catfish that's so thin when fried you get crispy something? First time here! Food is good. We ordered a 3 way combo with fried chicken, oysters and prawns ($22.93) fries instead of potato salad although I was itching to ask for a sample. Boo LOVED the food and said, "I'll be going here from now on." I don't eat chicken but the prawns were delicious, next time I will request the oysters to be fried a little harder but the flavor was still good. I like the food but they are stingy with the sauce. Whenever our work orders through DD, the workers don't read any of the special instructions. "Special," as in "tartar sauce for the fish" or "no bread." They don't give any utensils either. These people are weird about their tartar sauce. They aren't even cheap either. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. When I first tried their food it was good. I tried the party wings the fried ribs and oysters. Everything was perfect, the flavor was on point. After my second time eating there the food became Blan no seasoning and undercooked. This last time my family and I said let's give them one more try because they said they had a new cook the new cook is all bad whoever was cooking their food before maybe about 3 or 4 months ago should still be cooking. The food was very good, we had the Fried Chicken, Fried Red Snapper w/fries and greens. The fried food was crispy, not oily or overcooked. We wanted to try the desserts but they were all sold out. Heard about Dixon's from my neighbor. She's a frequent customer and says the fish is really good. I prefer snapper over all the other fish varieties so maybe that was my issue. Upon arriving, it's a decent size parking lot big enough to fit about 7-8 cars if parked decently. Inside, looks like a little hole in the wall, hood spot honestly. Could use some remodeling or some care at least. I already knew what I wanted, so I ordered the family deal snapper for $27.99 which included 2 regular fries and 6 slices of bread. I also added 5pc lemon pepper party wings. The wait was pretty long, I realized I should have called first. I must admit it was a constant flow of traffic so I was sold that this was going to be some great fish/chicken. As I got home to open the food, first thing I noticed were how big the party wings were and they were drenched in seasoning. Looked like basic seasoning I could get at Safeway or something. Next, the fish had just come out of the grease and it was all just thrown on top of each other to the point where some pieces were so soggy from the oil and the breading was falling off the fish. Like why would they just throw all the pieces in the boat at one time and bag it. It was giving lazy. Flavor on the wings was better than flavor on the fish. The fish lacked flavor all I tasted was salt. My son didn't even finish his fish but said the wings were good. The fries were typical frozen Ore-Ida fries. I honestly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I know. Maybe my expectations were high but it was just not good at all. My husband and I had a stomach ache a little after eating it. Whoa, I'm glad I stumbled upon this place driving down International randomly looking for food. I was sold when I saw their sign. Any place whose sign starts with "fried fish" is going to be an absolute winner. I'm going to get straight to the point, the food. The food here is EXCELLENT, the menu is expansive, and the prices/value is absolutely insane. I've been twice in the last week (I live in SJ). They have a bbq, chicken, fish, sides, and desert menu. I tried as much as I could of each. Fried Chicken: Among the best I've ever had. Fried freshly to perfection. Crispy but not too thick of a breading. AMAZING skin and crunch. As tender and as juicy as chicken gets, and outstanding freshness. Seasoned thoroughly, though a little salty for my taste, but still superb. Good sized pieces. Better than KFC by a mile. My only wish was that they had a spicy version. 5/5 Fried Catfish: Again, tender, seasoned well, not as strongly as the chicken, sadly, but again fried to flaky soft perfection. These fillets are really thick! Comes with a side. 4.5/5 BBQ Sandwich: Cheapest entry to trying their BBQ ($8.99). Comes with a side. Packaged as 3 individual ribs you take the meat off of yourself, two pieces of bread, and your side. You assemble yourself. The ribs were enjoyable but not special, I'd probably pass on these in future, but they weren't bad. Just not the smokey tender fall of the bone dry rubbed charred ribs like I had hoped for, but then again this isn't a BBQ focused place. 3.5/5 Mac n Cheese: Really really good. The menu is no joke. I'd love to try the BBQ chicken as well, and the fried ribs(!). The sides menu is huge as well, and I've read that the spaghetti is amazing. For desserts they have some tasty looking cakes, though I can't tell if they make them themselves. The prices are crazy good as well, for chicken you can order anywhere from 2-8 pieces, at 2 pieces its like $1.25 a piece, and at 8 pieces it's closer to 75 cents a piece for dark meat! That's insanely cheap. The catfish as well was something like $5 for 3 huge pieces and a side. What's especially interesting is that you can order things on a very individual basis. Want one wing? No problem. How about one jalapeno popper? 55 cents. Really flexible menu, though the BBQ can't be ordered that way. All in all, this place will wow with almost every aspect of its menu even down to the flavor of the sides, then you consider the quality AND the value, and you begin to realize how standout a restaurant like this truly is. This is a genuine neighborhood restaurant, one that feeds the whole area. You get that vibe from it, and you can sense a certain passion from it. You won't see many places like this these days, or even in certain areas where it's all about money, sales, fancy crap, franchising, etc, like I've been seeing take over San Jose. Instead, this seems to be a neighborhood staple whose charm goes deeper than just being profitable, but rather about feeding the people and area, and serving up good food as much as it is about being a business. 5 stars. read more
