Old reliable for me in Ludlow. Whether you want to sit at the bar for a drink and quick meal, or get a table for a nice sit down dinner DJs never disappoints. Has a nice selection of specials each night but my classic favorites are their St. Louis spareribs and their scallops dishes. Staff is friendly and service is always good. Can get crowded on weekends during ski season but this is to be expected. Love it every time. read more

Came here with my sister & her hubby who have a house in Ludlow. We were promptly seated in a large comfortable booth on a busy Friday night during leaf-peeping season. DJ's is a very large restaurant although it doesn't appear that way from the street. Anyway, our server was efficient & knowledgeable. I had a baked scallop special with rice. My meal was delicious. As stated in many other reviews, the portions are quite large. Plus, there is a very substantial salad bar. And the warm rolls & butter are so good. The atmosphere is very homey and is filled with locals. I would have to say that it is a bit pricey, however, you will not leave hungry & will most likely be bringing part of your meal home. read more

By any measure, DJs shouldn't continue to pack them in. And yet on a recent Saturday, they were. They were singing along to "The Day the Music Died" and relishing the salad bar. Never mind the wood panels and a menu stuck in the 1980s. Some of this could be hip kitsch. And to be fair, this place has been around since I was a kid (and used to order the same chicken teriyaki on the menu today). The menu is standard American favorites, steak, prime rib, rack of lamb. None of it is bad. But it's not gourmet either. Ordered the salmon rare; it came out well done. They didn't ask how to cook the steak tips; they came out well done too. Both were huge portions. The salad bar isn't bad by any means. Standard stuff but fresh and you can pile it on. The bread is actually quite good. And so was the clam chowder. But service was spotty; took 15 minutes to pay for the meal. Overall, if you like your potions big, your decor dates and your food thoroughly OK, DJs is ready for you and your family and friends. This was EXACTLY what we needed after a day of skiing. Service was super attentive and quick, large portions, and good food. Classic, old school restaurant with rolls and salad before the entree and a nice, laid back, dimly lit atmosphere. Chicken parmigiana was excellent, wife had the swordfish which she loved. And the kids really enjoyed the chicken teriyaki and fried tacos. We got there at 5 when they opened and there was a lineup waiting for them to open. They moved us all in quickly, even without a reservation (recommend making one if you can). We will definitely be back when we are in town again. You won't walk away hungry! read more

Great restaurant. The food was really good. Portions were very large. Their rolls are fantastic. I had a baked Haddock special that was cooked to perfection. It was flaky and seasoned perfectly. My daughter had chicken parmigiana that was enough for at least two if not 3 meals. She said it was right up there in top 5. Hubby had pork Osceola bouco special and said the meat was tender, seasoning spot on and it was a huge potion. All meals came with a side salad to start and a side with the meal. The only downside is the length of time it took for food to come out of the kitchen. If the food hadn't been good it wouldn't have been worth the wait. On the plus side the food was piping hot when we got it so we knew it wasn't sitting around. Just be patient they are short staffed. Reservations are required. If you are not in a hurry, give it a try. read more

I only have positives to say about DJ'S. They accommodated our group of 9 last minute and it was packed when we arrived. Our server was amazing, always attentive, checking in at the right moments, making sure we always had drinks, etc. As for the food, the rolls come out super hot with whipped butter and every meal Includes the salad bar. The salad bar is great - lots of choices and a good mix of standard salad vs prepared salads like potato and cole slaw. The only thing missing for me was hard boiled egg but I'll let that slide. When the meals arrived we had a nice mix of DJ prime ribs, duck, chicken cordon blue, and lemon chicken. Everyone was satisfied. We all abided by the suggestion on the menu that warned you not to over do the the salad bar because of portion size but we still needed doggie bags. The decor, menu and salad bar all scream 80's greatness so if you're expected new fangled fusion this probably isn't the place for you but if you want some good old tried and true grub - I'd recommend. This place is old school! Salad bar has all the options from the 80's, in a good way: green bean salad, beets, toasted sunflower seeds, even sesame noodles! (And many more) The portions are huge! Order takeout dinner. Found the food to be very truck driver heavy, aka meat and potatoes focused. Ordered the cod with crabmeat crumbles, and found the garlic mashed potatoes were in over abundance but there was no vegetable with the entrée. Included salad was basically just iceberg lettuce with a few colored greens scattered in, and some dressing. Quite boring. Not as nutritious meal as I was looking for, and not many options on the menu to accommodate this Staff was very helpful and friendly. read more

Kind of a dive, but the food is quite good. Seven of us went here and racked up a $300 tab, but most of us were drinking and everyone ordered a meal. The St. Louis ribs special ($22) didn't fall right off the bone, but didn't require much tugging either. The duck special ($27) was a little dry, but still quite crispy on the skin, and they didn't skimp on the sauce, which thankfully came on the side. Everyone else seemed to be happy with their meals, but I LOVED the hand cut fries. Oddly, I also didn't mind going to the salad bar, a concept I typically cannot stand. We ordered a few sidecars for cocktails, which they had no idea how to make. We explained the ratios to our server and they came out pretty good. Overall a good little spot in Ludlow if you don't feel like traveling too far outside of town. read more

We walked in and were told to wait for 40 mins. After 40 mins, we were seated in the booth and served with free bread and butter. The waitress was polite and direct our attention towards the specials on the board. While placing the order, I couldn't help but notice that I can only have the salad after ordering the entree. I ordered the cheese shells and it came out okay. there wasn't anything spectacular about the dish and it was really pricey for what it was. I don't think I am going to Djs again. read more

Had heard good things about DJ's and was excited to visit them. When we arrived, we did not have a reservation, but the hostess took our name and told us it would be 20 to 30 minutes. We waited about 20 minutes, and they had a table for us. The hostess was very pleasant and friendly. Once seated we waited 5 or 10 minutes before our waitress greeted us with "what are you drinking" After we placed our drink order we looked over the menu and ordered wing dings, chicken parm and ribs. What we noticed over the next 120 minutes was that the restaurant was understaffed. I would guess that our waitress was probably handling 8 to 10 plus tables, and they were clearly short several cooks. The restaurant was packed as they were one of the few that were open on this day. I appreciate how difficult it is to operate a restaurant especially these days. What we have experienced at other restaurants is that they were upfront right from the start that they were short handed and the wait for a table reflected their situation. Watching the tables around us, one got there appetizers, salads and entrees all at once after no food for over 30+ minutes. Another table had an issue with their food and had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for the waitress to hear their issues. When we finished our meals, I said if the waitress comes by in the next 15 minutes, I will ask to see the dessert menu. We ended up getting ice cream at the c-store across the street. They charge prices like it's a nice place, but the floors were dirty, they serve the food on paper plates, you get your own plastic ware, get your own drinks, charge for syrup...to us, it just wasn't worth the long wait and high prices for that kind of experience. As a former food service worker, I hate to do this, but I had possibly the worst customer service experience of my life with whatever hostess was working 2/13/21 at around 5:30 pm (manager/owner, check the schedule). She mistakenly thought I was placed on hold (when I called to make a last minute reservation which I understand is frustrating) and proceeded to say EXREMELY clearly "I hate everyone! Why wouldn't you make a reservation NO i dont have anything available!!!!" before she picked up the phone to answer my question. I wish I said something but I didn't want to ruin her night. Right off the bat - top 5 wings I've had in my life. Both the Buffalo and the Thai Chili. We walked in their craving a few wings each and those wings were just too good to make that possible. I think we all ate 4x the wings we'd intended to. Unfortunately their beer selection was a disappointingly brief but I would recommend ordering one of their local ales on tap if you would like a quench-satisfying post-ski beer (one of the best categories of beer, if I can say so myself). My only issue with DJs was the back room not having any TVs. After a long day of hitting the slopes I was really hoping I could enjoy some playoff football but that only would have been an option in the crowded front room. Another plus - the servers were very friendly and made the experience more than that of a regular restaurant; very funny and welcoming. read more

From Russell: For some folks here in Ludlow , their summer isn't complete without a maple Cremee, or maybe a dip in their favorite swimming hole. For my 89 year old dad, his summer can't be wrapped up without a trip to DJ's so he can order a heaping plate of his favorite deep fried scallops. As a family, we have been coming to DJ's since they opened in the 80's. Once dad finds something he likes, he sticks with it, and I can say that he loves those scallops so much, he has not ordered anything else in the new millennium!! Since he and my mom don't get around by themselves anymore, tonight was the night that my sister and I decided to get them to town and get dad his coveted scallops. Terry kindly opened up the side door, and we only had to walk about 15 feet to a booth I have sat in countless times before. Thanks to Terry and Ramona for your patience and kindness tonight, and thanks to all of the staff for treating your guests like family and with respect all the time. We sat at the bar as we did not make reservations and had a nice time chatting with some of the other guests in town and a local to Ludlow. This is by far my favorite ludlow restaurant. We have been going here since I was a child and now as a grown adult it is what I look forward to whenever I am in town. The atmosphere is top notch the service is phenomenal and the food is delicious. The fact that I can taste the rolls in my mouth upon pulling into town shows they are truly a top tier establishment. Generally, the middle of the road reviews are the most accurate. It is a very good restaurant, comparatively, for Ludlow, VT. I think the salad bar is very good, although it is a bit of a throw-back. All the veggies are very fresh, crisp and plentiful. The salad bar is very will presented and kept stocked and clean. Yes, they do drag around a flatboard with specials on it. I think it's a nice folksy touch and adds to its country charm. As to some of the waitresses being older, is that prejudicial? Not sure what that is supposed to mean. Every waitress I have ever had serve me at DJ's was warm, friendly and attentive with few exceptions. I have had the stuffed shrimp and the fried haddock. They were very good. Others in my party have had steaks, which they said were very good. They appeared to be prime cuts to me. I would definitely have a NY strip or rib eye if in the mood. It looks like the Italian dishes are OK, but not great, but DJ's strikes me as a steak and seafood house. I would not ever rule out DJ's as a dining option in Ludlow. read more

Yay! My all-time favorite place is close to home and has a terrific Yelp rating! Nothing fancy, but what they do is as near to perfection as anything can be. Their filets are the best I've ever had (and I'm not alone in thinking this) from Los Angeles to London. The stuffed sole (even if it's not on the menu you can usually get it) is out of this world as well. Excellent salad/antipasti bar and awesome toasted rolls with whipped butter with every meal, good beer selection... While staying at Okemo Resort, a local recommended this place as an inexpensive, casual dining hot spot for the locals with great food. She was right about 3 of those points, as it was a casual place, the food was good, and the place was hopping with locals. I came for dinner on a Thursday night and you would have thought it was a Saturday night. A lot of older couples and middle aged women seemed to be on a night out on the town when I ate there. This place wasn't really that inexpensive, though, as the cheapest entree seemed to start at $15. For dinner I ordered the chicken cordon bleu with a rice pilaf, and it came with unlimited salad from the salad bar and rolls. The chicken was tasty, although seemed more like an nontraditional deconstructed chicken cordon bleu. My favorite part of the meal were the delicious fresh baked rolls, but the salad bar was only okay. It was filled with ice berg lettuce as the main green and there were plenty of options of toppings to add. However, many of them seemed to be less than fresh, or possibly right out of a can. Overall, DJs was a good eat and I wouldn't mind checking them out again if I'm ever in the area. The only thing I thought was worth mentioning is that they don't seem to be used to outsiders. When I say this, I don't really mean tourist, since they almost certainly get plenty of those during the peak ski season. However, as a Hispanic woman with really curly brown hair and a darker complexion, I felt like I stood out...a lot. I have never felt this way before when eating out, and I was treated well while dining, but the hostess kept staring at me like I was some rare creature.
