Great food! I meant to take photos of the dinner but the food smelled so good I forgot. Started with the buffalo wings and they were crispy and delicious And complimentary rolls and butter So good and I want the recipe for that bread it was delicious For dinner I ordered the spinach cheddar baked haddock. It was delicious and buttery! Husband got the prime rib. He loved that it was served with a thicker gravy rather than au jus that most places do. Medium rare and came out at the perfect temp. Dinner also comes with a side salad. You won't leave this place hungry! We are definitely coming back. They were busy but that's the be expected on a Friday night. So glad to see a local family owned business thriving.

We were in the area and decided to try this restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was immediately choatic from when you first entered. There were people everywhere and no order to anything that was going on. It was a busy night, and we didn't have a reservation. We expected a wait, and we had one. However, many parties around us had reservations and still had to wait as well. The atmosphere was also very dated and looked like it could use a vacuum. After a while, we were finally seated. The waitress was nice. The food took a while to arrive at our table. However, when it did arrive, it was tastier than I was expecting and very hot.

Greetings Richard. Let me begin by saying that for years I have been a loyal, and satisfied customer. But to say superior service?? That might have been during the salad bar days, aka pre COVID but certainly not now. Let me elaborate. We were sat near a party of 14+, whose lone server happened to be our server as well as other couples in our section. We were given water, rolls and butter... we sat there and sat. Then we sat for a little bit more. The butter and warm rolls were great. What is very unfortunate is that I couldn't even give our server an order for the bar. I'll admit that she was so busy with the large party and other tasks throughout her section, such as taking pics of the large group. Really! About 35 minutes later I threw down a bill for the rolls and water. We were noticed as we stood and walked towards the exit. We were stopped at the with the promise that the waitress would tend to us with urgency. I wanted to go but my better half wanted to stay. Anyway, almost an hour later from the time we crossed your threshold, we got our meals. And then we were asked if we would like dessert...no thanks. We took so much of our dinner home with us since we filled up on water, rolls and butter. To summarize the experience, the food was tasty, presentation lovely so kudos to the hidden and often underappreciated kitchen staff. To be ignored due to inadequate staffing, training or something else that is out of the customer's control is unsatisfactory. I don't forsee us returning to your restaurant. Richard, I truly hope that this review is read by you.

It's not easy to please every one in my family and this place hit the spot. After walking through the doors I thought it was just a bar. Then we were taken to another room to be seated and I was able to see how large the restaurant was. Our server brought bread and drinks right away. My fish entree was excellent, my daughter loved her spaghetti, and my son enjoyed his kids meal. The portions were on the larger side and we all had leftovers. This place is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Had a nice meal in Ludlow. Since the final demise of Harry's we went in town. DJ's is an institution, usually rushed and crowded. Not in mid November in a warm dry year. Hoping for some skiing but know we'll get a good meal at DJ's.

Oops, started eating clams and fries before it hit table! The play presentation was much better, I promise.

I was traveling through, DJ's was one of 3 restaurants open within a 20 mile radios. I pulled over as I spotted the whole belly clams sign. Service was great, very nice staff. I had the fried clams, fries, with salad and local Vermont beer, Switchback Ale, which paired great. It's has fully stocked bar, great staff, lots of locals and visitors alike, good food. I only gave 4 stars because the fries were a little too greasy for my pallet.

The bread was really warm and went well with the 2lbs of butter

I was not expecting this to be a good place but was pleasantly surprised. Nothing was mind-blowing but everything was made really well and with actual effort. Perhaps because this place has been around for 45 years, according to our server. We ordered the Thai wings, stuffed pasta shells with meatballs and the stuffed haddock with rice pilaf. First, the wings were really unique. They were fried perfectly and had a good amount of "Thai sauce" but they were served with hot mustard, which I found was extremely strange, yet worked somehow. The meatballs for the pasta dish tasted homemade, as did the red sauce and the haddock was stuffed with a great amount of crab and spinach. This place definitely has an old-fashioned feel to it, but in a good way. The bread will come out warm and straight from the oven with 4 lbs of butter in a soup dish and the salad will come out right when you sit down but everything is fresh. If you're in town, make sure you swing by.

In my nearly 30 years now working in, with, and patronizing the food and beverage industry, I've never experienced such repugnant service as what Suzy and I had at The Downtown Grocery. I should point out that we weren't just the usual tourist who come to Ludlow to ski. We actually lived here for several years, and I couldn't post this review until we moved away because of the owner's repeated behavior of attacking people on social media who disagree with or criticize him. The food here is "fine", it's not actually bad or anything. But it is tiny in portions (a rarity for Vermont), and it's overly "chef-y" without actually executing well. It's one of those places where the chef probably thinks that he would get a Michelin star if only they would come to see him, but I can tell you having eaten at over 100 cumulative Michelin stars in my life this is nowhere close. It fails in flavor, presentation, and execution. But again, not terrible. The setting is actually kind of nice too, somewhat homey which is juxtaposed and ruined by the arrogance of the staff. If you don't mind being guaranteed to wait well beyond your actual reservation time, and then waiting probably another hour just to get some meager first courses, then maybe this is the place for you? I doubt it though, there are so many options just in Ludlow alone, and even more that are worth the 45 minute drive to Woodstock or Manchester to avoid having to eat here if you want a "nice" meal. Whatever you do absolutely avoid coming any time near "stick season" or "mud season" (Vermonters will know) because you're guaranteed to get even worse service then. Ludlow has a ton of restaurants for such a small town, many of them quite good. This is the ONLY place we actively recommended friends and guests of ours to avoid. Even the crappy fake taco place down the street got occasional business over this place due entirely to the repeated piss poor attitude of the two owners.

Yet I must observe that the food took longer to make than I expected, a delay which tried my patience more than was desirable. In this interval, the root beer proved to be of uncommon quality and afforded some consolation. When the meal at last arrived, the chicken tenders were found to be exceptional, possessing a most commendable balance of crunch and satisfaction, and accompanied by a BBQ sauce of perfect density--neither excessive in thickness nor wanting in substance. Thus, while the experience bore notable merits, the undue length of preparation prevented it from attaining a more favorable distinction. Overall, it was aight

We came this year as a party of 8 and man were we disappointed. We checked in for our reservation and the young woman seemed surprised to see us there. They squeezed us into a table of 6 (ended up fine). We ordered 4 cocktails and 4 sodas. We also ordered 2 appetizers (the tuna nachos and breaded cauliflower) they came out in less than 5 minutes. That's a problem imo. I ordered the chicken Milanese. Sooooooo much arugula salad but that was dressed nicely. The chicken was super crispy but it was easy to tell it had been fried earlier and reheated. It was so dry! The pasta was delicious. The steak tips were not marinated as advertised. Oh and the waitress never checked on us mid-meal. We would've definitely ordered some wine. So. A different experience than two years ago. What a bummer

And this year was THE YEAR to hit up Vermont for skiing b/c they got more snow than they've gotten in almost a decade--so the skiing was the best east coast skiing I've experienced ever! And, if you're in Vermont skiing, you must drop by Main Mountain Bar & Motel. We weren't staying there as motel guests, but we heard that Main Mount was the place for fancy cocktails... and whoever told us this information was spot on!! Every cocktail we tried at Main was unique and super tasty. My favorite was the Good 'Ol Boy cocktail, but I also recommend the New England Sour--it's like a Whiskey Sour but with Mulled Wine and Cocoa on top. As for atmosphere and service, both are great! The interior decor is more like a cozy (but slightly modern) mountain house library (an atmosphere you might expect in a hip Brooklyn bar), and it's very inviting! And the bartender and servers are amazing and really friendly. As for food, we didn't try any on the first visit, but we ended up going back to Main Mountain on our last night of the trip b/c we found out that, on Sundays, they host a burger night! Ummm... yes!!!! So, we went back, I had another Good Ol' Boy, and we downed some yummy Smash Burgers and French Onion Mac & Cheese! Oh, and PLEASE order a side of their pickles!
