We did carryout breakfast from DK Diner because we wanted donuts but the sandwiches ended up making the trip worth it. We both made a "build your own" breakfast sandwich and they had tons of topping and bread options. The cheddar and brioche were perfect and made the sandwich best in class. The tots on the side were perfectly fried. Donut wise, both the fritter and cinnamon roll were over double the typical price at bakeries and were nothing special. While huge in size, I didn't like that they were really heavy and had a bread like consistency. I will definitely be back for a breakfast sandwich! read more

Every town needs a diner, like seriously. I don't think a town can actually be defined as a town without one. In my eyes, in order for a place to call themselves a diner it's gotta be cheap, the food solid, and the staff has to be friendly and quick. Those three things make the perfect diner experience in my opinion and that's exactly what I was hoping for when my sister recommended we get together for breakfast at DK Diner. During my first visit to DK Diner I was pumped to able to check each and every one of my diner requirements off the list. Five high! This specific diner is on the perfect little street corner in Grandview. It has a small parking lot but you can find parking on the neighborhood streets surrounding it. That's where I parked on this particular visit. It was Sunday, late morning, and the place was poppin. Thank goodness they have their patio covered and heated for those of us waiting for a table. It was a pretty snowy, chilly day and I was completely comfortable waiting. Some people were even sitting at tables inside the enclosed patios and I thought it was brilliant! Why not take advantage of the extra space. As long as they keep it warm enough, you've got a great thing going on. Now, I didn't have to wait long before a few seats opened up. These seats were at a little bar facing the window. There wasn't a lot of space but it was just enough to get comfortable. Now, the diner is decked out in Ohio State Buckeyes gear, historic photos, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia. It's pretty cool to look around, I got a few laughs even. They have bathrooms in the back corner right pass the kitchen, and the seating varies from booths, to tables, and a bar. First thing to know about DK Diner is the drinks are serve-yourself. They have coolers on display with different drink options, coffee, etc. Once your waiter comes by he or she will ask you what you want/got and will add it to your tab. This is a little unique so I thought I'd make it clear. I know I was a tad confused. For breakfast I ordered the "teny" little breakfast. This comes with two eggs, hashbrowns, choice of breakfast meat, your choice of toast, and a pancake. I heard interesting things about their pancakes so I was stoked to see it added to an egg combo meal. I also got fruit in replace of bacon or ham. Man 'o man, it was a ton of food! Cheap too. And yummy! The entire meal was about ten bucks. Seriously, ten bucks! My pancake was fluffy yet dense. It soaked up the maple syrup really well and was very filling. My eggs were a little overcooked but nothing too crazy. I asked for my hash browns to be made extra crispy and I pleased for them to arrive on my plate, absolutely perfect. I order hash browns like this everywhere I go and hardly anyone gets it right. Props to you DK Diner, props to you! You gave me a wonderful diner experience, hitting all the major points. Recommended by some friends to try their donuts and we were happy we did. We came around 10 am and it wasn't too crowded although most of the indoor seating was taken up but there was an outdoor surrounding tent with several open tables/chairs. There was limited parking at the restaurant and we had to park on the street in the neighborhood. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff at the register upon walkiWe got the cinnamon roll donut, Cronut, and Apple fritter. That's how I'd rank them as well, with the cinnamon roll being my favorite. The cinnamon roll and Apple fritter insides were soft and moist. The Cronut was flaky just like a croissant should be. The Apple fritter isn't like the typical Ones you would think of. It was dense on the inside with a lot of dough and not many apple pieces. It was okay, just different from one would usually expects The donuts had a good level of sweetness but were not too sweet to the point wear I felt sick after eating them. Went here for a breakfast meeting today! Plenty of room for groups both big and small, and not too busy for the normal breakfast hour. However, the food was not great, even for the basics. My eggs were cold, my bacon pretty much cooked to a crisp, the English muffin very dry, and the coffee weak. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but it seems like they should be able to get the easy stuff right. I probably won't be back here unless I can be convinced that other menu items will be less disappointing. read more

Awesome neighborhood diner! Went for early lunch and ordered the DK All the Way and a pancake. The DK ATW had a biscuit, eggs, bacon, sausage gravy and hash potatoes. I could have licked the plate. The pancake was made with doughnut batter and was delicious. Many tempting donuts in the case near the cashier-- but there's only so much room in a stomach. Loved the vibes and atmosphere here. The staff was so friendly and cheerful which is always a huge plus. As for the food, it was very high quality and you could tell love went into this menu. The donuts were pretty darn good too. As for specific dishes, the Chorizo Hash was flavored nicely and was tasty (but it lacked cheese). The Breakfast Burrito was average, and WAY too many onions in the burrito (but again lacked cheese). I will definitely be back though. Next time, I'm just going to order a proper breakfast. DK Diner is one of our favorite breakfast places. Shoutout today for perfectly cooked eggs! I'm very picky about eggs. I like them fried, over medium-well so that the yolk is a gel consistency with maybe a little tiny bit of runny to it. Everywhere I order eggs it's really hard to get this. When I order Over medium anywhere the yolk is so runny it covers the entire plate and frequently the whites aren't even fully cooked through, and over hard they break the yolk and over cook everything. So today I requested over hard with yolks intact and my eggs came out PERFECTLY! I didn't take a picture, but cutting into them the yolk was still the bright sunshine color, and set into a gel. I also got the loaded hash browns which are always delicious and my biscuit was HUGE! Seriously I know DK is known for their donuts but do yourself a favor and order the biscuit once. It's worth the minor up charge. No one else has biscuits like DK's. My friend and I came here on a cold, rainy Saturday around 10:00 and were lucky to be seated right away. I liked that the drinks are self-serve, because you don't have to wait for your server and you can keep going back. The drinks are right by the donuts, which makes it even harder to resist trying one! My friend had the French toast with a side of loaded potatoes, and she said both were great. I had the "teny" little breakfast, which comes with eggs, toast, potatoes, meat, and a pancake. It was a standard, classic breakfast, and I was ecstatic to have the option to get shredded potatoes (in my opinion, the best form of hashbrowns). However, the pancake was just too sweet for me, although my French toast-loving friend tried it and didn't think it was that sweet, so it might just be me. Wow! This place is such an amazing breakfast place right in the heart of Grandview. It is exactly what you could ever want from a typical breakfast dive! The drinks are self serve which I was skeptical about but I ended up really liking that aspect. They have all different kind of mugs which gives it even more character. I been wanting to try this place for so long but everytime I go which is on the weekends, it is super busy so I was so happy I got a chance to go today. The place is small and quaint. They have an outdoor patio for extra seating. When we got we sat ourselves, the waitress came right away to assist us. For drinks, they are self-served. The kitchen was open, so you can see everything they do which is great because if they dropped something you can catch them lol. The food came out in the good amount of time and everything was delicious. So much flavors in my scramblers and my husband downed the huevo rancheros. He praised at their good food. The fruits were fresh and had different varieties. I am glad we went at 815 AM because after 8:45 it got super busy which tells you that the people loved DK diner. Heard about this place through word of mouth, and it's become one of my favorite places to get breakfast in the city. The skillet is my favorite thing on the menu, but really, you can't go wrong with (almost) any of the options. Probably the best sausage gravy I've had, especially with the combination of ingredients that come in that dish (skillet). People I'm with always rave about the omelettes; their pancakes are delicious, having a little bit of a (lemon?) flavor in them. The Wake Up Burger is well crafted, but if you're looking to have it cooked to a specific temperature, in my experience, the kitchen seems to only produce well-done burgers. Another one of my family's favorites, this place is one of the best diners in all of Central Ohio. A good old fashion diner should never be discounted for it's simple cuisine, and if you have a couple kids, let me tell ya, there's no better way to get them to eat out and about. Located off the main drag in Grandview, DK isn't the biggest place around, so depending on when you go, you may have to wait for a table to open. Parking is sparse too, so be ready to park in the street. The decor is kitch, and they even display several school photos of past classes from the Grandview schools. One unique thing is that you have to go and get your own drink, so it's kind of a hybrid between a sit down full service restaurant and a fast casual place. The food is never disappointing. It diner fare, but excellent diner fare. You can get all day breakfast, which my kids often do, or they have burgers and sandwiches that taste great and are HUGE. And lastly, the DK in DK Diner stands for "Donut King", so do yourself a favorite and get one of those. read more

Remember dessert. Dessert for breakfast? Yes they are called donuts. I forgot to order my donut this morning. :-( You'll thank me when you taste them. The descriptions of a hard working and caring staff is still current. These college-aged youth are a credit to their generation and make the place run with their hustle and knowledge. DK is still informal in the morning. Just grab yourself a seat anywhere. Coffees and drinks are self serve. The rest will be served at a table by wait staff and runners. If you not familiar with this Grandview institution I'd suggest almost anything for breakfast. If Jack and Bennies is our mainstream fare and Skillet is our gourmet breakfast spot I'd say DK works in the space between them. Higher than typical but no where near art-food. DK diner is a great hole in the wall right in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The place is crazy small. When I say crazy small I mean, don't expect to find a parking spot. There are about ten or so to fight for out there. Finding an open one is much like winning the breakfast lotto. They have a decent outdoor seating area with heaters. The inside area has a handful of booths that fit four comfortably, six if you squeeze. There are a couple of high tops (two total) in the middle that will seat six. Be cautious with a larger crowd. They are a seat yourself diner but with no real signage for such so it can be a little confusing for first timers. If it's your first time coming, I recommend letting them know that. They tend to assume everyone is a regular and understands how they do things. For starters drinks are self serve. There are instructions on the table, but sometimes those go overlooked. Today I had the French toast. They were very light and moist bread. They use a heavy cinnamon mixture for the egg mixture. It'll make the bread almost look like a wheat French toast. The flavor is strong but not overwhelming. Just keep in mind that if you're fussy, maybe try the pancakes. The butter is a good room temp and spreads well. The syrup is a strong maple, you don't see that at all places. They give you several options on the toast so you can just do one slice if you are a lighter eater like myself. Love the options. Bacon is VERY rich in flavor. Very salty with what I would say is a sharp salt kick. If you're a bacon lover, it's cool. The bacon does have a mild glisten of grease, but I expect that. Keep your beverage handy, this is not for the weak of heart. The grease doesn't overpower or impact the flavor. You tend to more notice that it's not dry more than anything else. I finished off this trip with some home fries. I'm just "meh" on these. They are ok but not much flavor. I do appreciate I kiss of salt. These were rather bland so I had to use some "helper" with my meal. They came out a little on the cooler side. I was ok with that. My real downer for these was that I kept getting some pieces that just tasted "dry". I would eat some and then have the urge to drink water as I no longer had any moisturin my mouth. They have a decent potato flavor since they are fairly plain in terms of seasoning. The husband had the omelette. He said "pretty good!" That's about all I can give you on that one. This is one of his favorite places for an omelette, but we also only come out like once or twice a year. He really loves the bacon. Says it's some of the best diner bacon he's had. I'd definitely recommend. It's not necessarily my top favorite, maybe closer to bottom five. It's still good. I'll go with one fork and one butter knife up. Decided to do another UYE, this time at DK because the many requests for a brunch gathering. A combination of food and customer service made this first-time visit to DK a great. The management is stellar. A few days ahead, I had the pleasure to talk with Trevor (main manager), telling him that a group of Yelpers were coming for a UYE and to iron out any questions. They don't do reservations (it's a small joint), but Trevor gladly put our name on the list for an 11am table. Classic. Also, without hesitating, he offered to have a basket of fresh-made donuts set aside for us to try. Fast forward. I got to the diner around 10:30 am. Our group for three got seated not too long after 11. Efficient! Gave us plenty of time to decide what we were in the mood to try. Never rushed. Brought out donuts: chocolate, caramel croissant, cinnamon/sugar, blueberry, apple filled, and a sour cream glazed one - this one stole my heart!! My eyes kept meandering back to the Breakfast Burrito, so I finally succumbed to the force. Great choice! Steam coming off the wrap as it was placed in front of me. Yet, it wasn't burn my tongue off too hot. Perfect! Packed full of egg, cheese, and sausage. The relaxed neighborhoods feeling here is always a giant plus! First timer right here! I've been eyeing this place for a long time, but because of the reviews talking about how crowded it usually is, I've decided to avoid it. After Pride was rained out this past weekend, I was looking to try something new but wanted to stay in the area because of the weather, and I thought 2 pm in the afternoon would be a great time to check this place out and avoid the rush! Well, it was definitely a great time to go minus the fact that we basically had to ford the Third Avenue river in order to get there. The place was mostly empty, and we had our orders taken pretty quickly. I know a lot of people don't like the serve yourself drinks, but I'm a big fan of it. I guess if it was really busy I could see it being a problem. I had heard some good things about the Italian sub, so I had to try it out, and I swapped out the chips with some fries, since I'm such a health nut. The food was out quickly, and I could already tell by the look that it was going to be delicious. I wasn't wrong. That was one of the best Italian subs I've had in Columbus with crispy bread and a tasty oil/vinegar combination. Now I'm eager to try the rest of the menu. I couldn't possibly leave without getting one of the famous doussants, so I grabbed one to go. I had to try that thing immediately when I got home, and it was of the most amazing donuts I've had. It just melted in my mouth. I wish I had ordered more. I almost wish I hadn't tried that donut, because now I'll have to get one whenever I'm there. I may stick to the off hours in order to ensure a seat, but if not, I saw that you can call in to get food to go, so that may be my next option. If only I had tried out this place sooner. read more

A slice of fabulous french toast this time instead of the less-than-successful biscuit of last visit. And... finally... a donut. OMG. This damn donut. Sweet, but not overly so. A hint of lemon zest, maybe? Leaves the most incredible and indescribable aftertaste. Thick, soft, heavenly. Mine was coated in perfectly sweetened chocolate icing.
