generous fish portions expertly batter fried, and a sweet presentation

Expert batter-fried fish and crispy chips: spot on, satisfies all the fried food cravings, while impressing with the sheer quality and moistness of the fish. I don't know when I'll be back to Tacoma to do a second taste test so dropping my review now. A rustic industrial depot of yesteryear has been converted into a collection of food stalls by the stalwart immigrants who are revitalizing old urban scapes. Very close to the famous Tacoma Glass Museum it was a draw for me because of its intriguing location and proximity to the museum. This stall has "Thai" in its name but the only Thai influence might be the stunning fresh orchid flower that decorated my plate. The proprietors are obviously hard working and graciously talked to me about the prep work that goes into masterful execution of batter-fried fish. They put a lot of elbow grease into getting the quality of the fish right: the fish is plump and moist, obviously high quality, not mealy and disintegrating in the least. The fried result is not greasy, it actually seems healthy despite being deep fried. Oh so delicious. I didn't need to eat the whole plate but I scarfed it down because it was irresistible. A wonderful fast food stall. The setting -- which is humble -- can also adds to the left behind industrial city vibe. Can't wait to go back when I'm craving some fried fish! Reminds me slightly of Baltimore MD.

Fresh cod and chips, amazing clam chowder. Spouse got special with fish and shrimp which he enjoyed a ton. All so fresh.

Cod fish and chips. Attractive but not memorable.

I'm sorry I made a special trip based on YELP reviews. The chowder is dairy-free and thick with probably a flour thickener. Also, missing seafood flavor. The cod fish and chips was tasteless, probably frozen, cod. The breading and cooking were well done but not enough to earn any stars. Coleslaw and tarter sauce were not memorable. Friendly service.

    Shrimp plate, requested no fries.

Ordered takeout today, delivered in 20 min. Exceptional! HUGE portions! This will be meals for me for days! All of it was incredibly fresh and the shrimp super crispy panko and juicy! Probably the best I've had. The in person Freight House dining is far from fine, but the delivery time, cost, taste, quality, and portions can't be beat! $28.00 total on Door Dash!

The food value is off the charts, and tastes wonderful. The clam chowder is great!! The people are always friendly, and it seems that they are always a notch above. Very far above.

I can't believe I haven't posted a review for this place. I've been here a few times since 2018 yet I was only able to locate two food pix. Oh my! =) LOL! I've ordered the Fish and chips a few times and it is delicious. Service is great. The dining vibe is great. I need to come back and eat here soon again. I'm craving fish and chips. Haha!

Stopped here for lunch while waiting for an Amtrak train. Had fish and chips which were solid -- and the presentation was next-level -- but the real star was the dairy-free clam chowder w/bacon. And I had a great conversation with the chef -- if you're a Star Trek fan ask him about the Borg Cube!

Great quality fish and chips for $20 out the door w a can of soda. Customer service is what makes the spot 10/10. Nothing fancy about the flavor but great crunch on the fish with even crunchier fries. Always give those small businesses a shot.

Fish & Chips 4.7/5 overall. Crispness 5/5. Batter 5/5. Fish quality 5/5. Flavor 5/5. Fries 4/5. Size and value 4/5. The best fish & chips in the south sound. I have been here more times than I can count over the last 15 years and they are always consistently the best. There really is no comparison to anywhere in the tri county area, Cod or Halibut, both are amazing! If you want the best it's Paya Thai, trust me I try them all!

Ask the Community - Paya Thai Fish & Chips

Does anyone know if they use line caught cod?

I'm unfamiliar with Freighthouse Square, use a cane, and walk with a fair bit of pain, so I'd really like to know what entrance is nearest this restaurant. Can anyone tell me that? Thank you!

I would enter at the doors near the transit station, which as far as I know is accessible with automatic doors. It has an entrance to the food court at your left, and Paya Thai will be on the right not far from there.

I couldn't remember the name of the place, but we found it: The Fish Peddler! We must have arrived at a perfect interval because there was a table for two that had just been bussed and ready for us near the large counter in the back where food was collected by servers and presented to hungry patrons at any of the 30-40 tables. Our server was genuinely warm and delightful and guided us to the menu and the on-line beer on tap information. Drinks were ordered and delivered in minutes - just enough time for us to announce our selections: A 3-piece halibut and chips for her, and for me, the albacore tuna with spring greens and gouda cheese on sourdough with a pint of I'm Not Afraid Of Music. It had the lowest alcohol content, and since I was driving, didn't want to push my luck. When our huge white dinner plates arrived - oh - did I mention the amazing jalapeño coleslaw? - we were amazed at the size of the perfectly deep fried halibut - which, on their own, provide a good bite, making only a smitten of tartar sauce necessary because you gotta have tartar sauce with fried fish, after all, right? I picked up one my sandwich haves and removed the toothpick with too much gusto and suffered a small splinter that I couldn't remove until I got home a couple of hours later with the help of a magnifying glass, a tweezer and some masking tape. But I ignored the splinter while I enjoyed my "this is NOT your mom's - or HER mom's - Tuna melt". The perfect balance of the albacore spread with the gouda showing up gloriously in almost every bite, the pillowy and cool greens and tomato slice that balanced the heat from the albacore between the two lightly toasted sourdough was my Valentine's Day gift to my mouth. We were stuffed, but not defeated - we ordered our cheesecake to go, and I get to have the last piece of halibut for a snack later on! It was great getting re-acquainted with This cozy, fun, busy restaurant since our last (and first) visit 3 years ago. My only regret is that for some unknown but surely inexcusable reason, I had waited three years before returning. Won't happen again.

This is a casual place, but the food is quality. We got the fish and chips, which were perfectly crispy. The black cod miso was superb. Very fresh and light and flaky and flavorful. We also got the lobster roll. It definitely rivals a lobster roll from the east coast. The service was great. They took care of everything well. This isn't fancy, but it's just a good seafood place for friends, business or families.

I love Fish And Chips…read more I've been lucky enough to be to the UK a couple of times and have Fish And Chips there several dozen times, as well as eating it all over the US and several other countries. I'm writing this all to tell you whether or not it's true. I definitely consider myself an expert and Fish And Chips. You will have to come here and see if you agree. This spot can throw down with the best of them, I said what I said The fish tasted delicious and fresh The beer batter is crunchy and flavorful with a good texture that allows for extra crunch I believe I could taste some finishing salt as well, although it may have been salt that rubbed off from the french fries The fish was fried perfectly as was the batter The housemaid tartar sauce was creamy, dilly and delicious. the house made cocktail sauce, and lime, cilantro sauce were amazing. Next time I come, I will definitely order the tartar sauce and the cocktail sauce and maybe even try a different one if they have more which they may I didn't ask. Sorry not sorry. The fries were crunchy and properly prepared A Large fresh lemon wedge was served with the fish, use it The shrimp are also perfectly battered and fried All of that was already 5/5 stars but for me honestly and surprisingly the fish taco might've been my favorite. It came with grilled fish on a warm flour tortilla with cabbage and pineapple salsa. There may have been a sauce on it too, but honestly, I ate it so fast I don't even know. I also ordered a raspberry lemonade, which is made from fresh lemon and fresh raspberries and quite tasty All in all, I have to say these guys definitely are using fresh delicious ingredients and delivering a quality superior product If you're looking for Fish And Chips, anywhere in the Puget Sound area, check their site as they are mobile business and are at different places every day, but it will be worth your drive regardless because it's delicious Also, have you tried the fish and you realize it's delicious come here and get my review a like or something... throw me a bone maybe buy me a taco I don't know ;-)

Cooper's hosted one of our Porsche Club breakfast social events, and from start to finish this one was a 10. The food was on point throughout, and considering the size of our group, that's borderline remarkable. Breakfast at Cooper's is flavorful and excellent! Everyone came away impressed, which if you've ever tried to please a table full of hungry car enthusiasts, you know is not a given. Andrea led the service, and she was outstanding. This woman knows how to manage a large, hungry group! To perform this with that kind of calm efficiency is a real skill! The whole team reflected the same energy. They were all attentive, warm, and clearly proud of the place they work in. I can't say enough about the people here. The thoughtful touch that really stood out: Porsche-themed mimosas and breakfast spirits prepared specially for our event. That kind of detail is something a great hospitality team delivers. It set the tone for the whole morning. The space itself is immaculate and the decor is genuinely cool. Those of us who hadn't dined there before were genuinely impressed. Cleanliness here is a point of obvious pride. All in all, Cooper's is a destination for casual quality. Magnificent experience, start to finish, and I can't wait to return!
