I've always loved this Dobra Tea. It's a nice oasis in the middle of downtown Asheville. After wandering or shopping in the area, it's fun to get a refreshing tea. It's a great spot to read a book at or come to with a friend. The people who work here are really social and kind. My best friend and I were in town and wanting a little afternoon treat. I'm blanking on the name, but I really enjoyed their new watermelon coconut iced tea. My best friend got a butterfly pea iced tea. There is plenty of seating available. If you want more natural lighting you can sit at the front with chair and tables. If you want something more moody and intimate in the back they have lower tables and pillows for a more traditional tea experience. I highly recommend checking this spot out. read more

Start off by saying this is a unique spot to experience all types of teas outside your normal English breakfast or Earl Grey They have a ton of options and styles from boba to matcha to green teas and chais. I personally really liked the traditional chai (it was very strongly spiced but was delish) I also loved the shop/ tea house aesthetic of traditional floor seating in the back and American seating in the front with regular tables. We had shoes off and sat on the floor. The food was delicious too. We got hummus and some other dip I cannot remember the name of. Service was good although our order was kind of messed up and half forgotten (was waiting for our hummus and had to go back up to ask about it). I will say I was pretty frustrated with the sizes of the food given. We got a hummus and only got four small pieces of bread to go with it. We had so much hummus left and no bread that we ended up having to go back up and buy more. I also was given what felt like the equivalent of 3 teaspoons of honey for a whole pot of chai tea. We went up and got more but I just feel like it's a bit stingy / skimpy I'd recommend coming in and checking it out. I had a great time at this little tea shop. I wish I had known they charged an auto gratuity of 10% to everything (including merchandise) as I tipped on top of that, but what can ya do. For the first round we got traditional street chai - I got mine with macadamia nut milk and "halfway sweet" with simple syrup. It was really good. I loved the ambience and sitting on the cushions on the floor. I saw people were complaining about it being crowded, but we were there for over an hour on a Sunday and had no problems. When we left, I got my mom some Lavender Limoncello tea bags. Pretty expensive at $16- I'll need to see if it was worth it once she tries it. I also got myself an iced "forest dragon" to go- matcha, jasmine green tea, fresh mint, cardamom, coconut milk, honey. It was really good! I would return next time I'm in Asheville- keeping in mind that 10% charge that Faith and David did not tell me about (though they were both friendly enough). read more

The place was the coolest and chillest tea house I have ever been to. There were so many types of tea to choose from. I went with one of their Japanese green teas and the hummus plate. The guy that took my order was super informative. I asked like 10 questions trying to figure out which tea was best for me. The hummus plate was so fresh and good. This review is for both the West Asheville and downtown locations. Very large selection of teas, including one I had not seen since I was in Taiwan, Pu'er. Only been one time to each location. The staff in West Asheville on a Sunday afternoon were pleasant but not very knowledgeable about the different teas. The staff at the downtown location were much more knowledgeable. Ambiance in both places is just beautiful. My only complaint (other than what I said above) is that a 10% charge is tacked on. Not sure what this is about. (I asked Dobra about this through their website but never got a reply.) I assumed this was a built-in tip so after the first time I adjusted my tip accordingly. Thus minus one star. read more

Everything about this place is absolutely amazing. We were there at a very busy time, and the staff worked efficiently together to serve everyone. The street chai was fantastic, and the tea cakes were phenomenal. We will absolutely be back when we are in Asheville. There are so many delicious sounding cookies, cakes, and drinks on the menu. It was hard to decide what to order. Also, even though we have no dietary restrictions we loved the gluten free tea cakes. Went to Asheville for the weekend and went to Dobra four times - I'm obsessed and wish Raleigh had something similar. I love the ambiance of this place - the downtown area has great lighting that makes the area feel rather intimate. Soft spa like music plays in the background and there's plenty of seating from regular chairs in the cafe area to areas where you take off your shoes and sit on a cushion on the floor with a low table - that was our preference. The first time around, we had hummus with veggies and a few pita slices. The hummus is a local brand called Roots and the flavors vary day to day. The location in West Asheville also has a few more treats than the downtown location. The employees are extremely helpful and take the time to bring the tea to you, teach you about how to experience the tea and the various steeping methods for each one we had. You can also purchase any of the teas and I believe some of the teawares, too. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quiet, chill spot in AVL. read more

Dobra is exactly what I want when I envision a tea house. Its cozy, peaceful tea room and large selection will wow any tea lover. There are several tables by the window for natural light and as you move toward the back, the tea room darkens and you have a selection of low round tables with floor seating (very similar to Japanese Chabudai tables). In this section, the talking was at a hush and you remove your shoes. I had the chai and the brew was perfection. The chai was legitimate and not the boxed or liquid junk you can find in the store or other popular big name coffee shops. I added a bit of stevia and macadamia milk for a cuppa creamy, spiced goodness. Highly suggest if you need a recharge and unique tea experience while in Ashville. read more

What a cute little find! Stopped in here while walking downtown. It was not packed but had patrons tucked away in spaces enjoying the calm and quiet. We had two cold teas, the forest dragon and blue magic. I liked the blue magic more. You order at the counter and they bring it to your seating area. It was very different to other tea houses. The cashier was friendly and helpful. She gave me some suggestions when I asked her. No complaints about service. The place does have an interesting design that makes you feel like you're sort of not in US (like in Asia). I wanted to sit in the back but it was way too dark so I had to sit at the front. As for the drinks, and this is why I'm giving them a 3, are just normal, a bit bland and nothing special. We order 4 drinks and 2 cookies. - the oolong tea (with lemon and something else): not impressed, boba was a little hard so wouldn't recommend adding it in. - cookies were okay - matcha was good. This place is so unique. It was the first time I was able to go somewhere that doesn't serve a single gluten item on their menu. I was ecstatic to order literally anything that sounded good without having to worry about what was in it or if they'd remember to make a gf substitution. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy and welcoming and the service was fast and friendly. The only complaint I have is that we ended up buying a box of tea only to get home and find that the best by date was 3 years past. I'm not a huge tea lover, but this is the cutest place! We had a group & found a spot in the back where you sit on pillows on the floor (unless you're lucky to find a stool) or you can sit in one of the booths up front. I didn't get any tea, but I tried several of the cookies & they were fair. The one I liked the most had almonds & cranberries in it, I think. Growing up a tea fanatic, I'm usually steered toward a great matcha spot; visiting Asheville was no different. As soon as tea was mentioned, a few locals pointed me to Dobra Tea. I was excited to see what the hype was all about. My first visit was on a random weekday afternoon. (I've since gone back countless times.) As you enter, the ambiance is very very calming & welcoming. The menu is immaculate, I stared at it for at least 10 minutes & still felt like I couldn't narrow it down. When it comes to ordering, there was never any pressure or feeling of a rush. Ever. Each employee is honest & willing to ask each other for help if they can't explain a specific ingredient or tea... which I really respected. When it came time to actually make a decision, they allowed us to smell a few loose-leaf teas to truly understand the difference in flavor that they were trying to explain; that was very helpful & much appreciated. For drinks, I ended up getting matcha on the rocks w oat milk.. When I tell you the smoothness of this matcha is incomparable to anything else, I truly mean it. A huge pet peeve of mine is when there are little matcha crumbs floating around & in my straw because it wasn't whisked (..?) well enough. The Chak tea was also very tasteful, & a top favorite, a bit more on the earthy spice side of the spectrum. Clear Communication has been tasted a few times as it's great for soothing a stomach, it has a unique taste that isn't sweet, but is also definitely not harsh. Blue Magic is my current go to though. Refreshing but with a unique taste. The Raspberry + Brown Sugar Tea cake is AMAZING Having celiac, it is so great knowing that the entire menu + kitchen are Gluten Free. Their avocado toast is out of this world & I want to eat it every single day forever & ever & everrr. I can't wait to be in Asheville again because I know that Dobra Tea is there waiting for me to try more things. Also!!! An employee that has really stood out to us is Leah. Each time we are in, you can see that she is always going above & beyond. Not only does she get the job done quickly + efficiently, but also seems to truly enjoy what Dobra does. She's charismatic and genuinely asks about how all is going. I've even paid attention to some children asking questions which I thought was sweet because the were patiently & throughly answered. The best thing about this place is the ambiance. Its really nice inside and a relaxing place to hang out and have some tea. I really like the section in the back where you can take off your shoes and sit on cushions on the floor. The service is also really good. I haven't been this impressed by a place that just offers tea in... well never. This is the most impressive tea shop I've seen states side. (1) High quality. they've have a huge variety of quality teas including ceremonial quality! I'm obsessed with green tea bc of the antioxidant properties and this place has half a dozen or so spring harvested (spring harvest, first pick is the best) green teas. Last place I saw this many whole leaf teas on the menu was in the London & Paris. So pretty darn impressive menu considering this is Asheville, NC. (2) Lighted tea pots! Yaaaas finally a tea room that serves a tea pot with a lighted flame to keep your pot warm! I enjoy green tea fit for Buddah himself and it stayed hot the whole hour I was there. (3) Incredible atmosphere. Very laid back. Soft zen music in the background. There are stools at the window and 4 tables up front (3 tables with their out outlets) so combines with free wifi it is a great place to work and enjoy a pot of healthy tea. (4) they have private tea rooms for large parties! Grab a group of friends, Kick off your shoes, sit on some pillows and enjoy some conversations over several pots of tea. (5) they have a few pastries and I only saw Two that were vegan so I was hoping for more of a selection to enjoy with the beautiful tea. Amazing and welcoming cafe. It just exudes tranquility and calm. The space is large and a bit dim but it sets the mood for relaxing with some delicious brews. There is space in the front by the windows which is brighter but the back has a space with cushions to sit on the floor on low tables. I had a chai and the most delicious GF cardamom pistachio cookie. My kid had a peppermint hot chocolate and she fell in love! We stopped by to pick up some tea for a friend and decided to give it a try while we were there. The girl at the checkout seemed kind of annoyed when I asked for some help picking a tea. My boyfriend decided on a plain black tea and I chose a plum-infused black tea. The plum-infused was delicious and I would definitely order it next time I'm in town. When we went to find a table, all of the empty tables were still dirty with previous patrons' dishes. We had to sit down and ask for someone to clear the table. Visiting in from Florida! After walking up and down these downtown Asheville streets, this was a nice refreshing stop for hydration. It was a nice fragrance upon entry. They had so many selections of teas, it took me a moment to make a decision. They also have a decent selection of pastries to choose from. The menu is an Asian fusion style. You can also customize your tea. The vibe in general is a chill Café. You'll have to wait in line, place your order, and choose your seat. The decor is a lovely Asian/BoHo fusion theme throughout with plenty of seating. If you want to get your zen on then this is the place for you! Tons of tea options. I went with MOLI HUA CHA - JASMINE. The loose leaves were served in a bowl along with a glass pot to pour hot water into the bowl and steep. Then after a minute, with the help of a lid/saucer, you pour the tea into your cup to drink. What a fun experience. It was a great spot to take a break from walking around the city to read a book. The back room was really cool...it had seats to drink at where you must remove your shoes. I come here every time I visit Asheville, yet I kept forgetting to write up a review. Guess I'll make up for that now. Although I'm more of a Bubble Tea fan, I can appreciate other forms of teas...and this place makes a full range of authentic tea. So I've got to give them props for that. Still, I usually get the Matcha Green Bubble Tea...which is super-strong Matcha Green flavor! Also, you have to add alot of syrup to taste the sweetness. It's not all-out delicious like the Kung Fu Teas, but it has its own appeal. Their dessert options are limited, but they do offer these dynamic teacakes. So far, I've only tried the Black Sesame Ginger Teacakes, and they're really good. I can also dig the hippy-dippy vibe here...and all the cool seating options. For all the reasons mentioned, I'd love to give this place 5 stars...BUT! Every time I'm here, it's incredibly hot/muggy...meaning, it never seems to be well air conditioned. Also, the service is incredibly slow. I know the teas are all made-from-scratch...but still?? One time I was here, a year or two ago, I waited over 30 minutes. Today, I think I waited a good 15-20 minutes. I always get this same mixed feelings when I'm here. So...sadly, I've got to dock at least a star. Despite some imperfections, I'm glad Asheville has this unique Dobra Tea...in 2 locations.
