One person covered the entire back room...11 tables, 2 of which were parties over 6 people. You can imagine what that feels like as a guest. Waiter/bartender feeling rushed to take an order....aggressively placing a glass of wine done as he rushes by, dropped and broken plates when rushing to bus tables, busser is overwhelmed, resetting tables in a rush. The feel of the whole night was rushed, however the food came out at a snails pace. Running through a dinning room is just not necessary. Amazing food. The flavors were light, delicate and perfect at the same time. The Fregola was perfect as well as the Kale salad, Branzino and Crostone. The Ravioli was ok compared to the rest of the wonderfully prepared dishes. Service was good. Had some wine and capped it off with a Braulio Amaro which was such a taste sensation. I was in the mood for some meats and cheeses and wine while sitting al fresco last night so A and I drove out to DOC Wine bar in Brooklyn; we have memories of having an amazing meal here several years ago. I love the decor of inside the restaurant - dimly lit and homey - but as the weather was beautiful, we opted to sit outside. In hindisght, I agree with other Yelpers that the service is a bit slow, but it's just a lovely setting to chat with your dining companion and enjoy the ambiance - and as we weren't in a hurry at all, I quite enjoyed the casual service. Dinner did run about 2 hours though (though much of it because we were slowing noshing and imbibing) but if you want a quick eat-and-go, perhaps not the best dining option. We started with a glass of Prosecco. (We had just come from watching A Fault in Our Stars...) I dislike ordering anything by the glass because more often than not, it ends up being somewhat flat. That rang true here also. A said some of the stars have escaped. ^^ (movie/book reference!) Normally, I would've flagged the waiter to alert him of this, but I was in a rather la-di-da mood and decided not to say anything. We ordered a meat and cheese plate (mixed cheeses and cold cuts with grilled vegetables) and the carpacccio di bresaola (cured bresaola with parmesan and arugula). The orders came out pretty quickly and we were offered some bread - thick, crusty, chewy - it was a good complement to the meats and cheese. The bresaola and arugula was delicious. I misread it (or read it then completely ignored the cured meat part), so I was expecting raw beef... so this dish ended up being heavier than my expectations, but still good. In future, I'd get a regular salad if I were doing a meat & cheese board though. The meat and cheese board... wasn't great. We got 3 cheeses and all of them were hard... that's never happened before. Where's the brie or goat cheese or even blue cheese? Also, the menu did say cold cuts for the meat, but never have I received bologna (or I think it was bologna - the waiter never said what the items were and it's not stated on the menu) and deli ham. $30 for deli meats. Hmm. After the star-less Prosecco, we decided to get a bottle of wine. One waiter handed us the menu and as we were perusing through it, another waiter came by and said "would you mind?," took the menu from me and said "I would like to recommend this with your meal, it would go really well!" I think this was my favorite part of the service (love the enthusiasm about pairing!); we said yes; he brought the wine and it was delicious. And yes, it did go really well with the food. All in all, we had a lovely evening (though not to the standards of our memories), but we didn't have a full meal here so that is most likely (hopefully) why. It's been a while since last time I paid visit to this Sardinian[1] wine bar. I remember I liked this place, and I have to say I found it to be even better than before. My family is originally from Sardinia (one of the poorest regions of Italy), so trust me here: I know what I'm talking about. The decor is rustic and very simple: dark, wooden floors, thick wooden tables, exposed bricks, and a lot of white (the warm Mediterranean white that you fin in Southern Spain, Greece, Sicily, etc...). A few authentic Sardinian touches here and there, like small rugs with stylized animal figures, wicker baskets, wooden masks. My gf and I came here on a Friday night; I was pleasantly surprise to find it not overcrowded at all: we chose to be seated in the large room at the back, which had about 2/3 of the tables empty. I also liked the jazz music they were playing in the background (Chet Baker and Miles Davis). The menu[2], much like the decor, is simple and rustic. Don't expect a full restaurant dinner here: this is a wine bar, and the menu is designed to accompany and enhance your wine experience. The wine menu, which includes only Italian wines[3], is very impressive. Plenty of choices from Sardinia, of course, Cannonau in primis, but not only: this may be the only place in the city where you can find Carignano del Sulcis. If you prefer white, I would recommend a Vermentino: a dry and aromatic wine that goes great with fish, but holds its ground perfectly well with cheese and cold cuts. If you opt for the house wine, it comes in different sizes: our "small" contained the equivalent of four full glasses. At just $13 this is something you may want to consider if a full bottle is too much, or if you are planning to keep drinking elsewhere after dinner. There is a wide selection of cheeses and cold cuts. Personally, I would have liked to see a bit more typical Sardinian cold cuts, like wild boar salami. The menu also offers crostoni, includin one with "bottarga di muggine": a typical Sardinian delicacy made of sun dried grey mullet roe that you grate over pasta or salad[4]. For starters, we shared the pane carasau guttiau ($5). Pane carasau[5] is a very thin, flat, and crisp bread from Sardinia. In this case, it was sprinkled with olive oil, salt, and rosemary. We then shared the special salad with beets, soft goat cheese, and apple. I then had the pistokku bresaola ($13; bresaola arugola, pesto, goat cheese mozzarella): the ingredients are layered over a sheet of pane carasau, and melted in the oven. I really liked the simplicity of this dish: no need to be fancy when the ingredients are delicious. I also liked the different textures that make this rustic dish: the crisp pane carasau, the soft bresaola, and the melted cheese. VH had the malloreddus (a short, ridged Sardinian pasta) with salsiccia in tomato sauce. This very simple dish and delicious was the only pasta dish on the menu. We had enough room for dessert. The menu offered home made tiramisu', chocolate salami, and two specials. we opted for the chestnut mousse, which came sprinkled with hazelnuts and served in a delicate philo pastry. I loved both the soft and firm consistency of the mousse, which packed flavor without too much sweetness. Our server, Dave, was very good: attentive but totally unintrusive (don't you hate when a waiter keeps coming to the table every 5 minutes to ask how everything is?), and very knowledgeable about the menu. $41 each including tip. This place is good for a date. The atmosphere is simple, warm, very welcoming, and romantic. The small plates will encourage you to share, which is always sexy. Unless your date into ultra-sophisticated, fancy dishes in very formal dinner settings. But if these are the kind of people you're going out with, you're probably not reading my reviews anyway. A gem in Williamsburg! Real Sardinian food and intimate ambient. Everything is so good, delicious, freshly made and tasty that you just want to order the full menu! I go at least once a week with my girlfriends and I bring every guest I have in town to this ace so I know they'll be happy :) Andrea is very attentive to every customer and always makes sure we have a good time. He is the soul to this place! They stepped up their wine game with a new brand that I didn't know before which is called Le Pianate. A smooth, silky and elegant red from Umbria that was getting along perfectly with Crostone al Pistacchio. Nice semi-rustic ambience near Williamsburg's waterfront (pro tip: if you are coming from Manhattan and the weather is nice, take the NYC Ferry instead of the subway, especially coming back after dinner. Spectacular views from the water!) The food was excellent and the service prompt and courteous. And these are real Italians running an Italian restaurant. Try the crostoni con alici and/or the insalate frutti di mare for appetizer, then go on with either the trofie or the fregola pastas. The first is handmade pasta with a wine reduction and caramelized onions. The second one is similar to couscous with pistachio and mascarpone cheese, a typical Sardinian dish. Accompany the whole thing with a bottle of one of their wines (we tried the Sicilian Grillo, semi-dry). The selection is not ample, but it's good! read more

This place has charm! I came here with a friend while visiting NYC and had a really good time. This place felt cozy and was the perfect setting for a romantic evening as it was dimly lit and had a rustic vibe, I ordered the most delicious ravioli that you could tell was made earlier that day and I finished it off rather quickly. The moment I mentioned my severe food allergies, the manager came over to help out and assure I would be safe. When my food came out, he dropped by again to make sure it was the correct dish and check with the kitchen staff that everything was safe. I felt very safe and very much enjoyed how the manager helped make sure I felt okay to eat there. My friend also loved her dish as well as the dessert she ordered (I passed due to my nut allergy and the dessert I wanted used nuts). If you're looking for a delicious authentic Italian restaurant, I would recommend this to everyone whether it is a date or girls night out. read more

Boy, does this place have charm. We came here for a Saturday night dinner without reservation and were immediately given a table outside, which was perfect for people watching. Within seconds of being seated, my boyfriend noticed they used the same plates that he had growing up, We immediately felt at home. The rustic vibe and menu felt almost European. Plenty of appetizers, pastas, entrees and wine to choose from. We started with the pane carasau, which is a thin, cracker-like flat bread seasoned with olive oil and rosemary. Super fragrant and tasty. The carpaccio is also not to be missed, perfectly portioned with cheese and arugula. I also had a salmon tartare, which is an unusual choice for this restaurant but fresh and tasty nonetheless. My boyfriend had the spaghetti alle vongole, which was super simple in the best way possible. Most tables around us ordered pasta, which seems to be the restaurants specialty. Came here on a whim -- glad we did!! Opens for dinner at 6 (cash and AMEX only but don't fret if you're unprepared, there is an ATM outside). We got in right before the rush, no reservation, and were happily by a lovely waiter who was very attentive and kind all night. To start, we ordered the anchovy crostini (ALICI), and OH MY GOD, it was delicious. Perfect. Can't say enough good things. Perfect amount for two people but I could've eaten more! Our main courses were two pasta dishes: Spaghetti Pomodoro and Malloreddus. Though both were perfect pasta (cooked al dente! my favorite: reminds me of how they made it in Italy) the Malloreddus was the star of the evening. Just absolutely delicious. For dessert, we had the Tiramisu, obviously. It was fantastic. The atmosphere was great as well. The bathroom was also the most beautiful bathroom I'd ever seen???? I could live in there. What an amazing spot! Italian home cooked at its finest! I know nothing about Brooklyn and it's good scene, but luckily my cousin lives in the area and knows all the great spots. We came here early on a Saturday before it opened with no ressies and asked if we can get a seat at 6 pm . They said of course and right at 6 we were seated. Inside your transformed back to Sardinia, Italy. Wood floors, simple wood tables, dark lit, floral plates and just simple Sardinia vibe. Just like the decor, staff is warm and extremely nice. They want to make you feel like you're in their home so that's the best type of service you can get! Food wise, where do I start?! So many good options! For starters get the flatbread! It's a cracker like textured with some olive oil and perfectly crisp. You can of course get bread, but it's so much nice to not get full on bread when eating Italian. We followed with the butter Nut squash salad and burrata. Def get the burrata! So fresh and delicious served with freshly sliced tomatoes. Main course we all got our own. Portion size it's perfectly set for one person or two if you want to do portion control. Not overly huge like some Italian spots. Must try are the following: FREGOLA AL PISTACCHIO. Don't be afraid of how it looks. It reminded me of oatmeal at first glance, but holy hell its a bowl of deliciousness. Also the RAVIOLI BURRO E SALVIA. Our table also ordered the grilled lamb chop with wine. I couldn't tell you if it's good because I'm a vegetarian, but the plate was cleaned up so I'm assuming it was satisfying. My first experience at DOC was 5 years ago. After brunch with a friend, Tammy*, at the now-defunct Oznot's Dish, we decided that another drink was in order (the perfect way to alleviate our hangovers). One drink turned into a bottle of white, and suddenly it was 1 AM and the room is spinning. The two of us drank something like 4 bottles of wine and I remember the owner (this very sexy Italian) sitting on Tammy's lap.** I also remember a large group of strangers joining us for a bottle of port. While I don't recall most of what happened that night, I still had a retarded amount of fun and have been going back ever since. The sexy Italian is still there with his bedroom eyes, and he always persuades me to buy whatever it is he's selling. And although the food is Italian, it has its own distinct flavours, which this restaurant does a nice job of showcasing. I like that the menu is written on brown paper, it gives the place a simple yet elegant dining experience. We decided to share a few different things on the menu: 1. Pane carasau - a bread made of fine, crispy layers, also known as "carta da musica," it is great with olive oil and rosemary sprinkled on top. 2. Salad with beets, greens, apples, and cheese in light lemon sauce - may not be native Sardinian specialty, but still very good and fresh. And...you must eat your veggies ;-) 3. Malloreddus with sausage and tomato sauce - typical gnocchi of the island, they sort of look like small mini-croissant shaped pasta. 4. Pistokku Bresaola - its your Sardinian version of pizza. Pistokku is a flatbread of Sardinia and it is made with bresaola, arugula, and goat cheese. Very flavourful and not as heavy as a traditional pizza! 5. Hazelnut mousse - light, and not too sweet. Excellent dessert! We shared a carafe of the house wine, which was $13 and we both had 2 full cups of wine. The wine was a pinot grigio. Dry and just the way I like it. The wine was a bargain! I had a great evening here recently. My bookclub had booked the large table and was quoted a $25 minimum per person, which thankfully was not strictly enforced. The decor is equal parts rustic and romantic, with an exposed wine cellar, candles, and dried flowers. I had a delightful glass of a light and fruity Pinot Blanc followed by a nice glass of dry but not tannic Cannonau. I tried the Lollove pannini with mozzarella, tomato, and basil, which was a tad bland but made with fresh, crunchy bread. The salads and crostini that other members of my table had looked fantastic, as did the cheese plate accompanied by flatbread. Dined here for the first time last evening with my sister and fiance. We started off our meal with a carafe of the house wine, which was delicious, followed by the meatballs and olives. I wish the artichokes we're available because we were really looking forward to it (but thats ok. There is always next time!) For our entrees we all chose a pasta dish and I can say that every meal was fantastic. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile now and being Italian myself I am very picky when it comes to Italian restaurants. I can hands down say this place is incredible. came to DOC for dinner & drinks last night- DOC is the coziest little Italian restaurant in the heart of Williamsburg. The restaurant seats about ~30 people max- would recommend making a reservation ahead of time for a weekend dinner/ for large groups. I enjoyed a glass of a cab blend (can't remember the name) and really enjoyed it. They have a impressive selection of wines by the glass and bottle, would love to come back here to try more. As for the food- between 3 of us, we shared the burrata, pistachio pesto crostini, sage butter spinach & ricotta ravioli, a red wine & goat cheese dish, and a grilled chicken. The pesto crostini was the most unique dish of them all- would definitely recommend it. As for the other dishes, none of them particularly stood out, but all were excellent for the quality & quantity provided. The homemade tiramisu was incredible- lady fingers soaked in a deep rich espresso topped with the fluffiest mascarpone I've ever had. I'm already craving it again as I write this review! Overall, the service was outstanding. We were seated promptly (without a reservation, by chance), and the hosts were very genuine and helpful. The manager responded rudely and aggressively: since you need a larger table and is 2 of you you can go somewhere else. How low class?? Man speaking to 2 ladies in such a disrespectful way. What looks from the outside to be a small wine bar is actually a large restaurant featuring an array of Sardinian cuisine. My date and I arrived on a Friday night, it was pretty full in the front but we were able to score a table in the back. Not surprisingly they have a great selection of wine that you can get in your glass, half a bottle and a full bottle. Food wise there are plenty of options but might I recommend the (small) tagliere. A variety of delicious meats, cheeses, marinated olives and two types of bread including the crispy pane carasau it is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The only note I have is that it does feel slightly overpriced for what you are getting compared to some of the other restaurants in the area, so while I won't be coming here every week- I will for sure be back. read more

Great neighbourhood Italian spot. Inside feels like a rustic Italian villa complete with a bar and lots of sitting room. We asked to sit outside though, as the weather was nice. The Pistacchio Crostoni was the highlight here - a decadent, deeply satisfying pesto/pistachio mascarpone spread. The saltiness of the pesto cut the richness of the mascarpone beautifully, elevating a subtle sweetness. The cool temperature of the spread made it an almost refreshing way to start the night. My girlfriend and I both got the Malloreddus pasta. I'm generally not a huge fan of meat sauce (which I often find a bit bland), but the menu described it as a 'typical Sardinian dish' which piqued my interest. It was more or less as expected. The pasta itself was about the size and shape of Orzo, but more twisted like a Bucatini. The sauce I think could've used a little more salt, but that's just me. I came from philly to visit a friend and we had dinner here on a Friday night. It wasn't at all busy but the weather wasn't all that great either. We all had appetizers and three pastas to share. I can't express how fresh and authentic everything was. The chef came out and spoke to us and gave us a history of how he became a chef. Straight from Italy to Brooklyn. In fact everyone in there was Italian.You can't get better than that. We ended up closing out the place. I will definitely be back!! read more
