Stopped here for dinner after getting off the ferry. We were seated quickly, we may have hit it just right as it looks like they can get busy. We sat outside, a nice covered patio. Ordered the fish and chips. The breading on the fish is bone well. Not soggy or one that falls off and leaves you with a tiny piece of fish. The fries are also good. Great food in a cute place with a lovely patio right on the Marina, walking distance from the ferry - perfect for lunch on a day trip from Seattle. My friend had a really great pulled pork BBQ sandwich with fries, it looked amazing. I tried the pork, it was tender and smokey with a nice BBQ sauce which didn't overpower the meat. The fries were also quite good. She said the bun was also really good, and the coleslaw. 10/10 would order again. I had the fish tacos, they were good but not enough food compared to the sandwich. I'd say I got half as much for more money, including less fries than came with the sandwich. (My friend let me finish hers - this is the kind of friend you want to day trip with!) We had a wonderful experience at Doc's recently. We walked in on a weeknight about 5:00 and were seated immediately on the outside grass area with a magnificent view of the marina and ferry terminal. We ordered and food came Lickety Split. We enjoyed a serving of fish and chips, Seafood Mac and cheese with smoked salmon and a couple cups of chowder. Everything was good. The Mac and cheese extra tasty with that smoked salmon. The service, ambiance, and quality of food is tough to beat. read more

We came in on a Saturday night and had a really unpleasant experience with our waitress (blonde, unfortunately didn't get her name). I ordered a drink, but she set it down in front of my husband, who doesn't drink and only ordered water. I had the worst experience of my life at this restaurant. We had a friend visit and was showing them everything we love about this town. We were seated and the server started by uncomfortably inserting himself into our conversation. We moved past that moment and placed an order for cocktails to begin. When checking IDs, the server made a very insensitive and inappropriate comment about the physical appearance of my wife's picture. I have never been so insulted by any person or establishment in my life. We left in tears immediately and informed the manager of what occurred, who I hope will take the appropriate action. I've been on the quest for a great Crab Louie salad for a few years. Sadly, this classic crab salad is hard to find even in states like Washington. I suspect it has to do with most people not wanting to pay a lot of money for a salad, but if you've ever had a great one, you know this one is worth it. After doing a lot of research, I made a point to try the one at Doc's Marina Grill on Bainbridge Island, Washington. There's also a location in Port Townsend, Washington. For starters, I ordered a cup of Doc's House Made Clam Chowder ($8) - famous because it's "oh-so-good!" It needed a sprinkle of salt, but it was very good. For my entrée, I ordered Doc's Dungeness Crab Louie ($38) - mixed greens topped with tender crab, seasonal vegetables, heirloom tomatoes and Doc's house-made Louie dressing. I was impressed! I would rate Doc's Crab Louie a 4/5. It was beautifully presented, had a generous portion of crab, and the house made Louie dressing was excellent! I would give this salad a perfect rating if they removed the red onion, and added a few black olives and asparagus spears. Even so, I was very happy with my salad and would rank it among one the best Crab Louie's I've ever had. It is certainly the best I've had in Washington state. In addition to serving great food, I really enjoyed the ambience of Doc's, and the service was excellent! I look forward to visiting again and try and some new menu items. *The upstairs level and bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. * There is an opening above the urinal that is a giant periscope. It provides a panoramic view of Eagle Harbor. It was designed by Lee Scott, a Carnegie Mellon graduate student. If you don't use a urinal, but are interested in seeing the periscope, staff will clear the room so you can check it out too. I didn't know about this until after my visit. Exploring Bainbridge Island today with family and enjoyed lunch at Doc's Marina Grill. Excellent staff, casual, nautical atmosphere, good sandwiches, craft beers and signature cocktails and mocktails. Burgers, prime rib sandwich, and chicken/bacon/cheddar sandwiches all good, with the coleslaw being a real standout. Prices perhaps a little steep, but all things considered a good value. Solid American food with a nice view. We came by for dinner in between ferry rides, and it's about a 20-minute walk from the station. Rockfish tacos were very plain except for the guacamole, the burger was decent, and the fries were good. Nothing really special about the restaurant besides the bayside patio. We made a reservation earlier in the day, but we were still seated fifteen minutes after arrival. Our server was very friendly though! I will begin with a disclaimer: I eat at Doc's often as it is one of my favorites in PT. Okay why? First is the warm friendly and welcoming staff; they just make you feel happy that you came through the front door. Second, the location is on the beach. Don't get me wrong it's a PNW beach and it's early March it's 40 degrees and raining sideways! But I love watching the weather from inside Doc's. The dining room ambience is maritime rustic and charming. And, of course the service is as good as the welcoming. The menu is varied and leans towards maritime pub fare; odd coincidence? I am often there for lunch as I was yesterday. And, I didn't see their usual crab Louie salad but the Ahi Tuna Nicose salad jumped out at me. This is where I am going to doc (pun intended) Doc's 1 ! It was a large serving of fresh romaine and Ahi; great so far. The Ahi was not seared it was nearly Sashimi. That's fine for me, I love Sashimi. But even my table mates wondered if I was going to eat it or send it back. The dressing was not Nicose that I recognized and very little of it was drizzled on top. But the real issue was this: Thera wasn't a single Nicose olive to be found on the plate! In fact no olive of any variety made an appearance. read more

I've really warmed up to Doc's since moving to the Island five years ago. Excellent fish and chips and the chocolate cake is awesome. Kinda surprised they are ordering it frozen from NY but it doesn't bother me. I'm a baker and know sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Def give them a try. read more

Came here in December. We asked to sit on the heated, enclosed deck. We had a beautiful view of the marina. Our food came out very quickly. The clam chowder was very good but could've been hotter. We split a beef and cheddar au jus sandwich. Was very good! Would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner. I was looking for a restaurant that had water views and Doc's was the first one that popped up in the search so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the 2-pc Fish with a Caesar Salad. The Cod was super crispy and delicious as well as the tarter sauce - in fact the best tartar sauce that I've ever had. I went to your Port Townsend location and the service was wonderful! What a customer friendly staff! Your food was good too! I've been there once before. But I noticed a 3% Service Charge when I received my bill. It's not new to me that many businesses are including service fees, which, as a small business owner I feel is UNFAIR to customers. Why not slightly raise your prices to offset those costs? So I asked what this additional fee was that you also taxed me for. Why am I paying for your employees HEALTHCARE? Which I learned MOST of your staff does not receive because you don't schedule them enough hours to receive the benefit. WTF???? This is nothing but GREED! Every person is eating it financially, but for you to expect your CUSTOMERS to pay and get taxed on HEALTHCARE for your GM is outrageous! You should let your customers know this fact before sitting us down. Thats is so sneaky! Whether it's legal or not....this business decision you made only demonstrates just how GREEDY you are! Maybe you can cut back on that glass of champagne while sitting on that yacht of yours. Honestly, I will NEVER eat at your establishment again because of this practice. It is fresh and quality, but nothing seems signature for the price point. Service is on top of their job and they run an efficient joint. El Portal Burger- 6.5, brioche bun was solid, meat was average, fresh vegetables, soggy bacon. Salmon burger: 7.5 Fresh fish, tasty bun, and the vegetables were very complimenting. We're from out of town and we're really looking forward to eating here. We have been to the Doc's in Port Townsend several times, always with good results. We ate lunch here on October 22. Service was okay, nothing exceptional. Food was definitely not worth the money. We had prawns and chips, fish and chips, French onion soup, and oysters Rockefeller. Both the prawns and fish tasted like they had just come out of the freezer-- could have bought them at any grocery, probably with better results. The soup was pretty good, but $15 for a small crock. We ordered half a dozen oysters @$22. One of the oysters was missing, just the sludge that is supposed to be spinach in the shell. We mentioned it to Mike the waiter, but he just shined it on. Also, beer is $10 a pint. All in all, not good value, only fair service, and ambiance wasn't great (loud waitress). We will never be back. read more

The service was okay. Ordered the fried calamari and after eating discovered it was a mistake and would never order it again. Believe that the deep fryer oil hasn't been filtered or changed for awhile as the calamari was dark brown when received. We sat at the table no water, no greeting nothing for an additional 15 minutes. Finally, someone came to the table and welcomed us she wasn't nice or rude- she was just there to do a job and you could tell- and asked if we were ready to order then she realized no one had given us a menu, she was like I'll be right back- Well she must have been making the paper to make the menus because she came back 10 minutes later. She dropped off the menus and left again and she came back 10 minutes later-I ended up joking with my friend to ask her for everything we wanted or she may never come back. We finally ordered and our order took forever to come out- everything was directly off the menu no additions nothing special. I remember it taking forever because I told my friend I am glad we had a drink and apps elsewhere before we arrived. The food when it finally did come out was underwhelming. I had the risotto (after the strong recommendation from the waitress) It was kind ick. This risotto had parts that were not cooked and parts that were overcooked...and it was unbelievably oily....it was sitting in a bowl of oil as the sauce and oil had separated. I ate 2 bites and shoved the plate away. I wasn't in the mood to say anything as we had been waiting much too long for everything, but our waitress was kind of surprised at how little was consumed. I asked for a box to take it home-I didn't want to be rude while her service was horrible and lacklustre she did not cook my meal. It took 10 minutes to get a box and when I asked for a box we also asked for the bill which did not come in a timely fashion. When I arrived home I threw the box into the fridge and there it molded. We were starving so we ended up ordering a pizza which was so good :). So basically we paid for 2 dinners that night. While this place is very cute I cannot recommend it to anyone.
