Went here for a birthday lunch, waited for a seat, bartender yelled across the restaurant for an employee to seat us, wife used the rest room, came back commenting that it smelled horrible and they had a spoon in some white crystals (soap?) on the wash basin. Seats were plastic chairs, menu arrived and the steak I wanted had no price. Server was wearing clothes that were amazing tight in the wrong way...we picked up and blew out. My fiance wanted to eat here, so I agreed. It is a rather large establishment with a wrap around deck from front to back. It was crowded, as this seems like a popular place to eat. The food was okay, and just outrageously priced in my opinion. A platter with 3 shrimp, a crabcake, and a fried piece of flounder will run you $24.00. Anyway, I guess you are paying for the deck and the view. There is no A/C here. Only large mounted fans, and if you are lucky enough, you might feel the breeze. There are also outer deck tables. I only noticed 3 or 4 tower oscillating fans in these areas. Not a lot of air circulating. We were unfortunately seated in one of these areas that was not even close to a fan. They do have shade covers, but that can only help so much. All in all, the food was mediocre to me, and way too overpriced!. If you are on a budget, this is not the place for you. read more

Wonderful food and amazing views! Thank goodness my Garmin could get me there it was a little tricky under the bridge. So so worth it! I was there on a day when it was 72 and low humidity. All of the restaurant was open and the breeze was perfect. They also have ceiling fans. Even the seating on the edge is covered so no worry about sunburn. Gorgeous views of the bay and the bridge. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly and seemed happy to be there. I got the fried shrimp and it was some of the best I've ever had! The shrimp were jumbo. They were butterflied and lightly battered so that was perfect!!. The french fries and coleslaw we're also very very good. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot. Two words.......tourist trap..... Unfortunately second time here after a friends tip of "ohhh it's gotten way better". I ate at the bar on 07/30/19 because the place was packed. My waitress was pleasant, however I never seemed to be able to get a tea refill. The fake krab guacamole was pretty sad and literally an ice cream scoop full on top of lettuce in a small bowl with a huge pile of chips to make it look like lots of food. Never found anything remotely crab looking in it, maybe essence of crab? I ordered grilled flounder with double mix grilled vegetables because I was expecting something better served than with French fries. 30 minutes later a plate with a thin strip of probably Sysco peel and grill sole was served with some kind of thick gravy that was so salty it was barely edible and pile of green beans.......not mixed vegetables. I let the fish sit there quite a bit waiting for someone to stop by and ask about my meal while I just ate green beans. Finally I caught a waiter walking behind bar and explained how bad fish was , he said "I'll get someone to fix it " and never came back. Waitress showed up with bill and I gave her $40 cash and I asked for a receipt for work. She leaves to the kitchen, returns, hands me correct $5.50 but just the same check , not paid receipt. So I explain I need paid receipt with pmt. method for work. She looked confused and irritated, most likely because she made change out of tip money and didn't run the actual sale in a register. We came in last Sunday after having not been here for a while and wow, everything was incredible! The food, the service, the view, the vibe, we had a thoroughly good time. They were slammed too, and didn't even skip a beat. Looking at the staff by themselves, you wouldn't have noticed. The manager, too, i believe her name was Katie??, was the most professional and accommodating manager we've met yet. This was our second time eating at Doc's and we enjoyed ourselves both times. The location is wonderful. You can sit outside and watch the birds and boats go by with live music. The service is friendly and attentive. The food is not fancy but enjoyable. You are paying for the location. It's well worth it. We look forward to coming back soon. read more

I went here on 7/6/11 for dinner with my mom. The food was excellent! We had the clam chowder and crab cakes stuffed in portobello mushrooms. The clam chowder had a nice consistency that wasn't overly creamy or overly watery. It was wonderfully seasoned with a generous portion of clams. The portobello crab cakes were nicely seasoned and cooked properly. As for the entrees. I had the tuna and my mom had the crab legs. She wanted the crab legs cold, so the kitchen accommodated her on that. The fish was nicely cooked and nicely seasoned. The side potatoes were wonderful too! The view of the water is very beautiful. The deck has wire up to prevent the birds from flying in to beg. The only drawback I have is the slow service. The waiter was friendly and accommodating, but not very attentive. He forgot a couple times what our drinks were, and he forgot what dressing we wanted. Not to mention it took him awhile to refill the glasses. The entrees took 45mins from the time we ordered it to the time it arrived. The place was only half full at the time as well. I chalk that up to "Island Folk Time." I would definitely recommend eating here because the overall experience is worth it... just expect to stay there a while... read more

Doc's rocks! The ambiance is pleasant and pretty much what I've come to expect for casual dining on the Gulf. It's a laid back atmosphere and no fancy attire required, come as you are. The place doesn't seem to be air conditioned but as there was a nice breeze passing through the restaurant it was comfortable. We arrived early for dinner (at 5ish) and were immediately seated. The wait staff was extremely helpful and very friendly. They made wonderful suggestions for our meal. They brought complimentary bread and I had a Land Shark Lager (really good on a hot day). I ordered a waiter-recommended daily special which was a black pepper encrusted tuna steak with a side of fresh veggies and a cilantro-based dipping sauce. My wife ordered the bacon-wrapped shrimp with a side of new potatoes. Our order arrived surprisingly fast and I think that had something to do with us visiting in late August which seems a bit like off-peak season because there are not that many tourists around. The food was cooked perfectly and they seemed to use all fresh ingredients in the preparation. My dish was awesome and I enjoyed every bite. My wife also enjoyed the plump, perfectly cooked bacon-wrapped shrimp. We paid $60 for 3 meals (one was a kids meal) and while that would be a bit high for us at a chain restaurant this is a seafood restaurant in a tourist area so I can't complain about the price, especially since we had a good experience. We will definitely try to visit Doc's the next time we come down to the Corpus Cristi area. read more

One of my favorite places for seafood and drinks. There will always be a long wait, so just be prepared. You can normally get some drinks at the bar which makes the wait more enjoyable. They also have live music (not sure what nights, but it seems to have been every night I've been there) and it's always great. If you are willing to drink a days worth of calories, I HIGHLY recommend the pina colada. It is the best drink I have ever had. Food wise I highly recommend the baked oysters. All of the variations are delicious. The coconut shrimp is great too. read more

Two stars for the cheerful staff thats all. We ordered crab guacamole that was clearly batch made and not freshly prepared. It was bland and under seasoned, and so were the fish tacos! Also ordered the shrimp po-boys. It came with four shrimp, and two leaves of lettuce and a slice of tomato on the side, so basically it was a 'build it yourself po boy'. Plus they toasted the bread that was not po-boy worthy. Oh and who puts cocktail sauce on a po-boy? What a disaster! Avoid this place at all costs, it was a waste of a hundred bucks! read more

One drink unfinished then left! Arriving single and female can be a humbling experience. The front desk is very young and the bar..not a good sign. Apparently there was confusion about my waiting 15 min at the bar...mid drink I realized that I hadn't given a name. Returned to the young triplets to confess but that ended in shaming me while holding the device up high! Cheeky move and in my embarrassment I said that I would pay for my drink and eat somewhere else. Returned to the bar, just feet away from the Mod Squad kiddos when one of the girls apologized and try to make it right# good for her but the Cheeky One didn't come over so I was done! * at the least I would have spent 30 bucks maybe more because it is my vacation and I have the money to spend. I've passed this place for years on my trips to Corpus and never checked it out. I stopped in the other day for lunch with my husband and was pleasantly surprised. We sat on the water and watched a pod of dolphins frolic in the laguna madre! We also watched a man pull up to the dock with a goat on his boat. It was quite an entertaining lunch date, to be sure. Our server, Haylee, was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. She said I had to try the crab stuffed flounder and their tasty green beans, which I cannot stop thinking about now and will have to try to replicate at home. My husband doesn't like seafood so Haylee recommended the Ultimate Cheeseburger with queso, cheddar, and swiss. I stole some of his fries, they were seasoned and delicious. He was pretty happy with his burger. It was unseasonably warm outside for January and Haylee kept our glasses of iced tea full, for which we were very grateful. Our waitress also recommended the key lime pie for desert, so I ordered that minus the raspberry sauce, because that's just weird and unnecessary. The pie stands alone. It was everything a good key lime pie should be, definitely recommend. My only regret is that we were so swept up in the moment with the good food, service, and dolphins playing in the water, that we didn't get any pictures. I went here with my girlfriend after a trip to the beach. We started off with the crab guacamole...sounds incredible right?? Wrong. To simply put it, it was a poor excuse for guacamole (mashed avocado with pico de gallo on top is not guacamole) and to make it even worse the price for what you get is ridiculous--a single scoop for $12....WHAT!? I got the crab stuffed flounder with potatoes while my girlfriend got the BBQ shrimp with potatoes. Everything was grossly under-seasoned--whenever I need to reach for the salt shaker at a restaurant that's a problem. I asked for a couple sauces to try to see if it would help with the flavor. I was not, however, informed that each sauce would be an additional $3 PER sauce. Even though we had that lack of communication, I thought our server was super friendly and helpful with navigating the menu items. The thing that saves this place from 1 Star? The view. It really is incredible to sit and eat while just watching the sun set on the ocean. However, this is a restaurant, so while the view helps, it doesn't excuse lack-luster and over priced plates. I do not think this place is worth the price tag they put on their food--way over priced for the amount and flavor of what you're getting! read more

I cannot express the disappointment my family just experienced at Doc's. 30 minute wait ( we had no problem with that ) table right under a huge porch fan that we turned off ourselves because everything was flying off the table just to have staff turn it right back on, chicken tenders for my son came out mostly raw and the servers ( one was training the other ) no where to be found which lead to no refills on drinks and when the check was finally dropped off at our table it was a flying drop and run to another table. We spent $172 ( 5 adults 1 kid ) and it was the most disappointing meal we have experienced in a long time. No flavor, undercooked food, tropical storm force winds from the porch fan and lack of any real service lead to this well deserved 1 star. read more
