The matcha is clearly high quality, with the perfect matcha-to-milk ratio. It comes out thick, smooth, and beautifully frothy, which shows how strong their whisking technique is. Most importantly, it tastes incredible on its own. It doesn't need a cream top to add flavor or hide a weak matcha base. The new Arts District location is beautiful, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. I'm not someone who automatically falls for trendy, Instagrammable matcha shops--the drink itself still has to deliver--and DAMO absolutely does. Even with a line, everything moved quickly and efficiently. Five stars for the quality, preparation, atmosphere, and overall experience. DAMO is the real deal and completely deserving of the hype.

Loved the honey lavender matcha and peanut coffee. The drinks were beautifully presented too, so they looked just as good as they tasted. Our first visit to Rok was only two days before we left LA and I liked it so much that I had to have it one more time before we went home. On the morning of our flight, we got up a little earlier just so we could stop by and get their drinks before heading to the airport! I got the Earl Grey Matcha Duo again while my husband and son both tried the Lotus Einspanner. My son has never been a coffee drinker so I was surprised that he wanted to try one. I honestly expected him not to finish it but he LOVED it! He did tell us later that the caffeine really got to him, though. LOL. There really isn't a cafe in my area that does matcha drinks well so I was especially happy that I got to enjoy such good matcha during this trip. The interior screams that Stagger really thought about both function and form; sitting may be a bit cramped at times, but it's K-town and foot traffic and visitor count is high. There's also some seating outdoors on the stone benches which can be nice until someone's smoking in the corridor. The iced latte? The first sips were good and bold, but this drink definitely felt more icy and watered down within 15 minutes. I'm not sure why but sip after sip, I felt less interested in drinking it. Perhaps I'll give this another try in the future, but for now this might be a one-time visit.

Despite the crowds, the staff is always friendly and works quickly for the amount of people they're serving. My favorites are the Matcha Einspanner and Hojicha Einspanner with whole milk. Both are SO smooth with strong tea flavors. The matcha leans nutty, which I love, while the hojicha has such a rich, earthy flavor. This is genuinely one of the best places I've had matcha and hojicha, and I've tried a lot of both. The Breakfast Sliders are another favorite and absolutely worth getting if you make it before they stop serving them. They're delicious on their own, but the sauces that come with them make them even better. No matter how busy Community Goods gets, I always find myself coming back whenever I'm in the area. We don't come to West Hollywood often, so when we saw the extremely long line, we decided to wait anyway. I already knew this place was popular, so waiting wasn't the issue. We ended up being there for around an hour, and I was completely prepared for that. What bothered me was how poorly the crowd was being managed and, more importantly, how unnecessarily rude one of the staff members was. The shop itself is VERY small, yet when we finally reached the entrance, there was nobody managing the door, explaining the capacity limit, or telling customers when they were allowed to enter. Naturally, when it appeared to be our turn, I walked inside with my sister behind me. As soon as I entered, a male employee who was working across the counter asked me, "Are you with the group in front of you?" I said no, and he very rudely told me that I needed to go back outside. I don't know what his actual position was, but he appeared to possibly be a manager or someone in charge because he was constantly moving around the shop and handling different things. My issue was: how exactly was I supposed to know I wasn't allowed inside yet? This was my first time here. There was no employee stationed at the entrance, no one directing the line, and nobody explaining that customers needed to wait for permission before entering. I had absolutely no problem going back outside and waiting longer. What I DID have a problem with was being spoken to like I had knowingly done something wrong when their own system was unclear. Ironically, shortly afterward, I watched that same employee go to the front and actually start managing the indoor entrance, asking groups how many people they had and telling people when they could enter. Exactly what should have been happening in the first place. Had someone been doing that when we reached the door, the entire interaction could have been avoided. Once we finally reached the register, the cashier was actually incredibly sweet and kind. She was probably the best part of the customer service experience, and I genuinely appreciated her. We ordered two matcha Einspanners and two coffee Einspanners. The drinks also came out quickly, which I appreciated after the long wait. Then, while leaving, there was another employee stationed near the entrance. My sister and I were each carrying drinks, so both of our hands were completely full. The employee appeared distracted and didn't offer any assistance with the door, so I literally had to maneuver it open while trying not to spill our expensive drinks. Is opening the door technically required? No. But when you're stationed right there and see customers struggling with their hands full, it would have been a small gesture of basic hospitality. As for the actual drinks: they were genuinely good. I preferred the matcha over the coffee, and I can understand why people like them. But when I look at the experience as a WHOLE; the price, tiny drink size, extremely long line, limited space/seating, parking situation, crowd management, and customer service; I simply cannot justify coming back. You're essentially spending close to the price of a meal on a small drink that can be finished in a few minutes, after potentially waiting an hour, only to receive an attitude from staff because you didn't understand a system that nobody explained to you. If a business knows it regularly draws crowds this large while operating out of such a small space, there should be a better system in place. Have someone consistently managing the entrance. Clearly communicate when customers can enter. Develop a better queue system. Most importantly, don't make customers feel stupid or unwelcome for not understanding rules that were never communicated to them. The drinks may be good, but good drinks alone don't make a good café experience. There are far too many cafés in West Hollywood and LA with great coffee and matcha where I don't have to wait an hour, spend nearly $10 on a tiny drink, struggle with parking, AND deal with rude service. For me, Community Goods was absolutely not worth the hype or the wait. One rude interaction within seconds of walking through the door completely set the tone for what should have been an enjoyable first visit. Great drinks. Sweet cashier. Terrible first impression and poorly managed customer experience. I won't be waiting in that line again.

The drinks here are fantastic - flavorful, well-crafted, and exactly what I was hoping for. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. I'm a regular at this place, coming in 2-3 times a week, a big fan of the drinks. However, during my recent visit on 2/27, the last hour before closing, the experience was a bit frustrating. I was taken aback by the attitude of a female cashier. Instead of the usual warmth and friendliness I'm usually approached with at coffee bars, there was a noticeable lack of customer service. The female cashier seemed annoyed. When I placed my order for a "matcha shake," she asked if I wanted "matcha ice cream," which was confusing since I've never seen "matcha ice cream" listed on the menu. I asked for clarification, as her question made it seem like the "matcha shake" wasn't specific enough, and I couldn't think of any other item that might be similar other than the matcha affogato. For god's sake, please learn your own workplace menu. Seriously, it's embarrassing. You end up confusing customers for no reason. Additionally, I would've been more understanding if she had just explained the situation kindly, but her attitude was rather off-putting. It's a shame, because it really impacted the overall experience, especially since I normally enjoy coming here. I'd love to come back for the drinks, but I really hope she can work on being a little more welcoming in the future (or get booted). Great drinks deserve great service! read more

I'll keep it short. I want to like Document, but a product is never any better than the person from whom you receive it. I say that to say, every time I've been to Document (and I've stopped going for this reason), there is one barista in particular--taller Asian male--who is always so unpleasant. Playing the race card is my last resort, always, but I don't think he is too fond of Black customers. Or, to put it differently, the interactions he has with other Asian customers and white ones are markedly differenty. The last time I visited (11/6/24), I ordered two different lattes. My name was called, and when I approached the counter, I asked which was which. He said, "Can you hold on?" and then processsed to say, without any eye contact and with the most acerbic tone, "You can read the cup to see which is which." I let it slide because I had already paid, but I was *hot*. Had he written the names of the lattes on the cup or not, he couldn't have taken two seconds to show me which was which? I'm sure had I said something then, he would've denied my experience and tried to clean it up, so that's why I'm leaving this review here. Like I said, if you are Asian or white, you might be fine. The lattes are fine. They could be warmer, though. As well as the customer service. read more

Looking for the best coffee in TOWN???!? Not just Koreatown!? Okay, so to the point, I am a very reliant coffee drinker, which means I drink coffee at least once a day if not twice or more. I have been to every "famed" cafe in LA and a few are good and this place outshines them all. The coffee flavor is amazing with the best notes to compliment my palette, also, I drink my coffee straight so no room for cream or sugar. And really, this place is better than STUMPTOWN, although currently they are using STUMPTOWN's beans as one of their brewing options. The atmosphere here is just as good as any other Cafe in Ktown if not better. I like the clean and simplicity this place derives on! Been sitting here since 8 am, working on my laptop, I've been productive and enjoying my stay here. Definitely give this place a try, you won't regret it, I promise you will love it, if you love coffee, you will love this place. I recently visited Document Coffee Bar with high expectations, given the numerous stellar reviews, but was left thoroughly disappointed. The affogato, which is typically a delightful combination of espresso and ice cream, was a letdown: the espresso was weak and flavorless, and there wasn't enough of it to complement the amount of ice cream. The ice cream itself was dull, icy, and lacked the smooth, creamy texture that you want with an affogato. The service was also a disappointment. The staff was impersonal and seemed annoyed to be taking my order, which made for an unpleasant experience. The physical space has a lot of potential, as it's fairly large, but there's not enough seating inside to make it a hangout spot. While the concept of displaying photos on the wall is interesting, the images are rather melancholy, depicting people seemingly worn down by LA. This choice creates a somber vibe that doesn't feel inviting. There is a small wooden patio in the back, but it overlooks the parking lot, so the view is nothing special. In fact, I can't remember the last time I started my day without fantastic coffee (therefore, for me going to DOCUMENT, was HUGE for me to step out of my norm). Los Angeles has become in recent years a great coffee town, with several shops taking quality and craft to new heights. Today marks the beginning of my journey to DOCUMENT, as a stable in my day-to-day coffee intake. DOCUMENT is one of those places where you can go into the shop and order whatever coffee you want, but the best thing is that they cater to you. I would personally recommend you to talk to the barista's, they are amazing, yep, you should always entitle yourself to finding the BEST coffee for you. I recently visited Document Coffee Bar in Koreatown and had a delightful experience. I ordered the Document Latte, which was a smooth caffe latte enhanced with a touch of maple syrup. This was a cafe I used to visit regularly, but my recent experience was very disappointing. When taking my order, the barista showed noticeably curt and unfriendly behavior, and when I chose not to leave a tip at payment, they turned away without a word, displaying even more indifference. Overall, their unnecessarily aggressive attitude made for a very unpleasant and uncomfortable experience as a customer. I believe that basic courtesy and respect in customer service are never optional. So this is the deal with coffee bars in Koreatown: THERE ARE EVERYWHERE. It's hard to stand out as a coffee bar with good coffee and a great atmosphere. Document Coffee Bar is a great place to go to if you're going to be on your laptop the entire time and not talk to anyone. It's no place for 'ahjummas' to hang out with their 5 year olds who can't sit still - every Korean wannabe hipster in the cafe will give you a look. LOL The cafe is actually not ON Wilshire - it's on a side street facing the Renaissance hotel. I had a hot latte and it was good. Have had the hot brew before and that was great as well. The drinks are whatever, but the space is cute. I heard the owners here are artists and you can see that with the way they decorated the space. I've already been here multiple times and I'll probably be back once in a while sometime during my Koreatown coffee rotation, but I really wish they would work harder on improving their drinks. It's a coffee shop after all. Their cold brews and Americanos are both too bitter most of the times. It's hard to find good coffee in Koreatown because most of these coffee shops are just all about the looks and no craft, but I'd say Document still falls on the better group. read more

This is one of my favorite cafes to go to. The location is absolutely wonderful and the decor is so aesthetic and nice and gives off such great vibes and a great first impression that when you take a step, a smile just appears on your face. The service is a bit slow, but most cafes are like that. The staff is very welcoming and patient with the customers and some even make you laugh with jokes. The coffee is amazing and this is such a great place to come work and catch up on stuff that you are behind nor just hang out with friends. I have been going to Document for over a year now and, honestly, couldn't be more impressed! They have a wonderful selection of drinks-- which have been well made every time-- and an awesome, warm staff! I was honestly surprised to see a couple of the recent, negative reviews, as the staff has been nothing but accommodating and kind to me. (and I have patronized Document on many, many occasions). I hope the hate doesn't impact them too much; it would be a shame if they were to be adversely impacted by a few negative outliers. Keep it up document team! :-) read more

LA has so many excellent coffee shops to offer but there's always room for more! Document Coffee Bar is a fantastic addition to the Ktown area. The coffee is legit. Delicious pour overs, cappuccinos (the almond milk is tasty if that's your style) and dear god, the Document Cold is my new favorite thing. Chicory coffee with milk and maple syrup. Done. If you are in Koreatown, this coffee shop is definitely a must try. Cute interior and very nice baristas. Their spro beverages have some ups and downs. 1 out of 3 times the spro would be bitter or sour. Same with their tower dripped cold brews. But on a good day, it's really good. I actually like it here more after covid without all the laptop warriors taking the space all day long. You get to enjoy the beautiful artistic interior. read more

This is one of my favorite coffee shops in ktown! They have some unique coffee menu items, but I stuck with my cold brew coffee and thoroughly enjoyed every drop. They also have some delicious pastries available as well! the place is very clean with modern decor. in the back, they had a wall of portrait photography. stool seating only. Fast service. I usually treat myself to coffee once a week and it always the vanilla latte with oat milk from Document. This is hands down my favorite coffee shop! From the great customer service to really good coffee and delicious pastries (chocolate croissants are my fav). It was served hotter than a Gibraltar should be, which made it difficult to pick up the coffee's sweetness and flavor nuances early on. The heat overpowered the cup and muted much of what the coffee had to offer. As the drink cooled, more character started to come through, but the body and texture began to thin out through the middle of the cup. The drink became noticeably more watery and didn't retain its crema and microfoam particularly well, causing it to lose some of the structure and richness it had when first served. Overall, a Solid Gibraltar with good fundamentals and a nice presentation.

The shopping center felt sad and run down. Once I figured out how to get inside, I was greeted by a friendly nod and an amazing coffee menu. It was hard to decide but I ventured for Rosemary Bee and was blown away by the overall quality of coffee. The barista is a coffee artist. You can see how I gulped half of it before taking the photo. I wish I lived closer -- this would easily be my regular coffee spot. I want to try everything.
