We spent a long weekend at the Doe Bay Resort and ate at Doe Bay Cafe both nights and it was A-Mazing. The food itself was fresh, very very fresh. Ingredients are purchased locally and Doe Bay has its own garden. The menu changes each month according to what is fresh and available. There was not one item we ordered that was 'meh' - each item was delicious. In particular, I adored the salmon!! The second night we opted for the "Hands Free" menu - 5 courses selected by the chef. DELICIOUS!! In addition to delicious food, the service was incredible. Sarah and Kelly served us and were kind and attentive and delightful. Everyone made us feel very special and every aspect of dinner was 5 stars! I can't remember the last time I had such an awesome dinner I highly recommend you go out of your way to eat at the Doe Bay Cafe, even if you aren't saying at the resort. Best grilled cheese and carrot soup I've ever had! And not only did everything taste great, but the meal was presented beautifully. I had a latte with my meal, which was also exceptional. The service is slow and mellow so don't come with an attitude of getting in and out of there. The surrounding area is beautiful and we had a great time. The food was amazing and their heirloom tomatoes were a huge hit with our group. The staff was extremely nice. The only gripe I had was how long we waited to have our order taken and receive our food which usually wouldn't be a big deal, but if you have a baby you know that can really backfire (which we do). Excellent food, loved the mushroom pappardelle, the views, and am a huge fan how they source their food. We are staying at Doe Bay and given the rustic accommodations, I was expecting a camp cafe, not a casual 5 star dinner. The food was absolutely excellent, but the prices are steep, which I wasn't prepared for. It would be nice to have a casual, less expensive option for the guests here such as a mushroom wrap or something guests could take back to their yurts or cabins in mason jars. We would have loved to eat dinner here again, but the prices reflect a special occasion dinner, not a casual Saturday night. Now breakfast is where it's at! Excellent food (amazing biscuits and gravy) and my husband said his bfast sandwich was the best he has ever had, and the prices reflect casual breakfast dining! Spectacular location and really fine dining. We had the tasting meal with wine pairings. Course after course until I had to loosen my belt. Each course paired with a great wine and generous pours. Farm to sea means great local veggies and the best seafood known to the world. Oysters with sorrel, a smoked mackerel spread was a highlight. Soup, 2 kinds of salad. Smoked beets ... I mean really, who the hell smokes beets? So unusual and delicious. The last dish, before dessert was a black cod with a corn meal square and again it was perfect. This place was amazing! We were in Orcas Island thanks to a great Living Social deal at the Deer Harbor Resort, and found out about this restaurant. We went there, and while there wasn't a large number of people, that made for a more intimate dining experience. The restaurant is well designed and decorated, and there's a great view of a cove from many of the tables along the window. Our servers were exceptional, and the meal was even more so! I ordered the vegetable tower, which had 5 or 6 different vegetables (each one cooked in its own way), stacked into a tower. I've never had such a savory vegetarian meal before! We also were given the rest of a bottle of San Juan Vineyard wine which was a beautiful compliment to the meal. read more

My boyfriend and I are visiting Orcas Island for the long 4th of July weekend and we ate dinner here tonight. We both ordered the halibut entrée and it was delicious! The stone fruit cobbler was unlike any fruit cobbler I'd ever eaten - yummy, lightweight and I love how the fruits were not hidden in cobbler pastry and sugar. We did not make reservations and were seated at the bar (the café was completely booked for dinner). It was cool to watch the kitchen staff prepare and cook the meals. They seemed very efficient. The hostess was pleasant, the bartender was friendly and the waitress was nice. The only negative experience was there were a lot of mosquitoes inside the café; the windows were open and the views of the bay were lovely. read more

We came here for dinner on Saturday night and were disappointed. I'll start with the good - The hostess was just wonderful. The view and the place was just adorable! We were super bummed by the food. They were out of oysters which is what my husband wanted and we drove all the way for. The cod my husband ordered was sub-par and the pasta with parsley I got was such a small portion for the price, and just not yummy. It felt like a total waste of money. Loved this place ... the food was fresh, delicious and prepared with the freshest ingredients, in many cases from the cafe's own little vegetable garden. Service was prompt, cheerful and attentive and the waterfront views/location made for a pretty amazing brunch experience. While everything we tried was really good, I would personally recommend the breakfast burrito and their lattes if you are going there. Way over rated. My husband and I love food, and were so excited to try it given the reviews. First, the cocktails tasted like they were 1/2 water. Second, the dates had a really strong blue cheese/plastic flavor. I ordered the salmon, thinking it's hard not to get amazing salmon in the NW. Wrong. It was ok but cooked about 10 minutes too long. The waiter never once asked how our drinks were, or if our food tasted ok. The couple next to us had the chocolate mousse and said they couldn't eat it bc it was too sweet. My mom, sister and I tried this place because we heard it was the best on the island, and though the food was good, and the setting itself lends a wonderful ambience, there seemed to be a wrench in the works on the night we dined here. We had no reservation but got in on the assumption that we'd be in and out in an hour or two so the table could open up for a reservation, fair enough, we were happy to be seated. I understand a laid back attitude at a resort. But the amount of time it took for every order to be processed, and the food to be brought to us, then the wait for a check that never came though there was a line of people waiting for tables just made things seem a bit disorganized. It ended up being a 2 and a half hour experience. In the end we got our check but the wine was left off the bill, and we could not tell if it was because of the service and wait ...or if it was simply an accident. Thus we left a $40 tip because we did not want to risk taking up our table any longer as we tried to get our server's attention. As a person who works at a restaurant myself I noticed that it seemed they were understaffed and that the division of labor wasn't clear. But that's only my guess. Though it's easy to focus on the negative, because the experience was kinda bizarre, the food was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed my shrimp and grits( the special that night), and the Curried Eggplant soup was nice. I also noticed the pizza going by, and it, looked, fantastic! I think based on what others have said I would like to return to give this spot a fair chance. I know that just one experience isn't a fair estimation of an establishment's quality. Overall, it was a very good experience. The service was prompt and friendly. The atmosphere was lively. The building itself is situated right on the water, with a magnificent view. The cocktails we had were excellent and inventive. The quality of the food and the preparation was excellent; nearly all of the produce is homegrown. With that said and as others have alluded to, I think you need to be prepared for a vegetarian, or rather, pescatarian only menu selections. In reality the food was uneven...we loved some things (like the roasted corn), but our entrees were really not great (a plate of undercooked carrots for $28!). Excited to try but unfortunately service was horrible. Waited for over an hour to sit after we were told the bar seats were not open. So the two of us were good with waiting and figured it would be a bit given the music festival occurring(no wait time given.) Frustration began when people were walking in and went right to the bar to get service and staff still serviced them knowing they never put their names on the waitlist. A very nice gentleman advised staff that this was occurring as he was equally frustrated after he had been waiting over an hour too. The guy managing the waitlist was extremely rude and childish when confronted by the elderly man. Then began to complain to other staff about customers being frustrated as if he was victim to his own disorganized chaos and horrible customer service. Food looked great but never had the opportunity to try given the negative service occurring before we were seated we chose to leave after over an hour of waiting. read more

If you are visiting Orcas Island and do not go here for brunch you will be missing out for sure. We were lucky enough to catch a beautiful sunny morning and decided to enjoy it by sitting outside. I ordered a cappuccino to help me wake up and a amazingly delicious fresh pressed carrot, apple and ginger juice. My sweets ordered a bloody mary and the pickled asparagus was to die for. OMG....I could live on that stuff. This was by far the best breakfast I have had in years. The smoked salmon benedict was perfectly cooked. The fish was delish, the eggs poached perfect and the hollandaise was lovely with the perfect amount of spice. My mom ordered the Pad see ew and it was very spicy and flavorful. She found it a little too spicy for her taste but I loved it. Everything was so fresh and presented very nicely. You can tell they really have a passion for good quality food. After brunch we took a nice walk around the property to check out the gardens and the tree house on the property. Go here.....go here now and you won't be disappointed. Wow what a great place to have dinner! Honestly one of my favorites ever. It was recommended to me by a friend and the B&B hosts where we were staying and they were so right! The food was super tasty, the dessert was a crazy explosion of delicious flavors and the atmosphere was relaxed, warm and inviting. Had a great evening there. The service was pleasant, but a bit indifferent. And, of course, the location is beautiful. I am a local resident and have eaten at Doe Bay a few times over the years. In recent memory, it was good and reasonably priced. But the meal I had tonight is beyond ridiculous. A very few tablespoons of pasta, three tiny grape tomatoes and a leaf or two of basil for $22. At first my companion and I thought they split our order, and then we started laughing. It was probably good, but without being able to take a complete bite, it was hard to say. There were no sides, no bread, no salad, Just an elf's portion of ingredients worth under $5. Perhaps there was an elf cooking in the kitchen. Doe Bay is far out of Eastsound and they have a captive audience. You will be best advised to eat in Eastsound, or at the Orcas landing, or stop by the Island Market for your meal, and save your money for something worthwhile. read more

The ramen was bland and was curiously almost absent of noodles. The veggies seemed to have lost their flavor into the broth. My husband ordered one of the specials, the Japanese seafood crepe. It wasn't a crepe, and definitely not a Japanese style crepe. Very small portion of food for an entrée. We also were at the restaurant for 2.5 hours, the wait for our food was ridiculous.
