Great Cajun food and warm decor. I have been to New Orleans several times as well as eaten at highly ranked Cajun restaurants all over the country. This is the perfect cast-casual place and a jem in Forney! My husband and I had been wanting to eat here since moving to Forney 8 months ago and now we regret not visiting sooner! The catfish was fresh, had traditional, seasoned cornmeal breading and excellently fried, the seasoning on the fries was the perfect amount the shrimp étouffée bowl serving was the perfect size and very flavorful and the green beans were not mushy and even our infant loved them! The decor is so cute and felt like home and we look for add to going back and experiencing the bar for a night out! One thing we thought was great was for a place that cries a lot of seafood, it did not smell of seafood at all! This most likely means they actually change their oil regularly and not only does that help with the cleanliness of the restaurant but is a big reason why the fish and shrimp tasted so great! read more

Excellent restaurant, haven't had a bad meal there. The location has been, at one time or another, a Sonic, video rental store, a Chinese restaurant, a burger joint and a used car dealership. Since it was originally a Sonic, the interior is on the small side. They have recently added an outdoors eating area. The food is excellent. Just moved to Forney and the hubs and I love trying non chain, "hole in the wall" restaurants. Drove past this one morning on our way to Mama's daughters diner (Saturday morning routine from the Irving location now to this one). Came here for dinner tonight and it was delic! This place has some of the best catfish I've ever eaten. It's breaded and cooked perfect; better than Pappadeaux's and costs less. The fried shrimp are pretty dang good as well. The collard greens weren't on the menu, but were available to order and better than yo momma makes them. Excellent fried catfish. Great quality fish, not your usual fried catfish... this is dusted with cajun spices and goodness. The interior dining is small and somewhat cramped but there is also a covered enclosed patio. My usual is the family pack catfish to-go which is actually a great value. Blows away places in dallas like aw shucks, etc, which are just plain boring compared to doe belly's. Sides are all good and homemade. Service can be a bit slow but it is worth waiting for. read more

I stopped in for lunch on my way through Forney today, having found them in a previous trip through town. This time, the catfish was not quite cooked right--instead of being flaky it was kind of mushy in the middle, like it had been cooked at slightly too high a level and the middle was not quite cooked. With no good catfish places anywhere within this region now, with David Beard's in Garland and Greenville now long gone, I wanted to find good catfish. This time being a disappointment, I may have to go looking elsewhere. Good fries and hush puppies (though too small). Music was playing too loudly in the small inside dining area, and they needed to have done something to control flies (the cheap, sticky strips work well). Good local family place instead of a chain, which is always a great thing for me. read more

Can't believe I've been looking for a good catfish place and even driving to East Texas when I wanted really crispy catfish......and it was right here under my nose! Not a fancy place, but the food was tasty, fresh and hot when served. Limited seating but turnover is pretty quick if you want to eat there. Huge take out business. Called in an order Friday evening around 7 pm for 3 people and was told it would be ready in 25 minutes. Arrived 30 minutes after placing the order waited my turn and paid for the order. While waiting I looked over the receipt and noticed that the prices I was charged were a bit higher than the prices on the online menu I ordered from. I brought it to the cashiers attention and her response was "yeah the prices will be different here"! Confused by her answer I replied ok just thought you may want to know so you can update your online menu. I finally got my order 50 minutes after I called it in from a guy who kept sticking his hands and face into the bag to see if the order was all there which didn't bother so much until I got home and pulled the food out and realized none of it was really covered. The food was good and hot thankfully, fish batter had a nice flavor, hush puppies were tiny but delicious wish the were bigger or had been more than two. I love fried catfish, but OMG this was way too salty! When I spoke to an employee (manager was not there or not available) he said "we don't put salt on it". NO WAY ON GODS GREEN EARTH could that be true. I suggested to him they might use a spice MIX, which potentially has salt in it....he still denied the fact they use salt. Yes, this place is as good as it gets for catfish and crawdads! The people are the greatest and make you feel like you walked into their kitchen as an old family friend. The drinks are cold and the food is fresh and HOT like it should be. Standing out in the cold cooking crawfish and waiting for your turn to snuggle up to those perfectly cooked and seasoned mudbugs is a real treat. The conversation is good and the food is better. Only thing I would ask is to include more corn and potatoes in an order. With 5 lbs, I only got 1 of each. There food is pretty good but the service I received SUCKED, I called in my order around 6:30. I was told 10 to 12 minutes. I showed up 20 minutes later. Needless to say I waited another 20 minutes on my order. I'm glad I did not wait to place my order there. We will not be eating here for awhile until the service improves. read more
