Duke, my 95 pound goldendoodle, loves Cody! We can easily get an appointment whenever I call because Cody will answer or return calls within the day. My dog has epilepsy and Cody is so gentle and caring that I feel completely at ease leaving Dukie in his hands. Duke has been going to Cody since he was a puppy and now he is 5-1/2 years old. Whenever Duke first sees Cody, he furiously wags his tail so I know that he feels secure and loved, since he is very selective with this particular tail wagging. I wholeheartedly do not agree with Jack G, and his comment, hence this review. My poor doggo . . . my son and i constantly clipping and trimming on him - he was looking pretty shaggy and uneven. I knew i needed to take him somewhere to get everything evened up. The reviews here were great, so i gave them a shot. The outcome: my dog looked fabulous! Great communication - i told the groomer that i wanted scissor cut and to even everything up, leaving him 1" length all around. Basically i wanted a puppy cut, because my baby is only 8 months old. Oh, and i told her "no bows on the ears, he's a boy, not a girl" So instead of a bow, we got a feather! LOL very cute but he had that feather off by the time we got home. Oh, and IDK what they use on his fur to make him smell so good, but he still smells fresh, a week later! You get great services here - everything was done perfectly (even brushed his teeth) but its not cheap, so be prepared to drop pretty close to a Benjamin to get it done. read more

Our search for a new groomer began after an unfortunate incident about a year ago at another salon and eventually led us to Dog Salon Kahala. I think they do a pretty good job overall. The staff is always friendly and they seem to enjoy their work. They don't take credit cards and that's a little inconvenient but Ipo always looks pretty sporty after her appointment even though it sometimes takes a couple of tries to get her hair just right. The reason I don't go higher than threes stars with my review is because Ipo doesn't like going to Dog Salon Kahala. I don't know why. She doesn't want to get out of the car when we get there and will try to follow me out if one of the staff isn't carrying her. Ultimately, that's why our search continues. read more

It's VERY clean, they have NO cages, which I LOVE, and they groom the Japanese way, only scissors, no razors. They are much like DiVentus and the Kahala Supergroomers that were both there before. They are very nice, professional, but the actually grooming or haircut is not as even as the other companies. They treat the dogs very well!! I love my dog, I really do. But like most people, I don't have time to take my dog to the groomers very often and I often let a few good months slip by before taking my pup in for a much needed haircut. As the owner of a pom-lhasa apso mix, my dog has LOTS of fur, almost teddy bear-like, and so a good haircut is definitely a necessity. I've taken my dog here once before and I remember it being great but I had a little difficulty scheduling so the past few times I ended up just going back to petco. But recently I found this place again and decide to give them another shot and I was definitely not disappointed. They were efficient, paid attention to detail, and prices were very fair for the amount of effort and attention put into each puppy. When I dropped off my pup here, the worker who took him in asked me how I wanted my pup's fur to be cut. I had asked for very specific styles and I had specific ways that I like my pup's arms and legs, tail, and ears to be. Without writing anything down, I was nervous that he would forget what I said and that I would not be satisfied with how it comes out. But when I came back to the salon 2 and a half hours later, I was absolutely DELIGHTED (and I don't use that word very often!) to see my dog. They made my teddy-bear looking puppy look absolutely gorgeous and I might sound like I'm exaggerating, but that's how satisfied I was with this experience. I would definitely recommend Dog Salon Kahala to dog owners for an occasional puppy pamper day, but the only thing to keep in mind is that they are cash only. I think we have found the place for our dog to be groomed! Historically, we have taken our dog to a popular groomer in Kaimuki. After hearing constant yelling in there, we decided to try a new place. Dog Salon Kahala was so peaceful and these folks are so nice and calm. When dropping off our dog, they went over the services that we desired and discussed what would happen to our dog. Then she said they would call us in a few hours when they were done. When we picked up our dog, he looked great!! They were spot on with timing and very honest. The lady told me it would take about 2 hours and would be $60. Spot on!! Our dog looks great! The service was remarkable and parking was super easy!!! Excuse given is that the Covid has sent workers back to Japan and it really shows in the service received. Poor grooming and poor explanation of why additional charges were included remains. The non- Japanese immigrant groomer only knows the term "tangle" when trying to explain additional charges. I was hoping to get the traditional Japanese scissor cut previously received by my former groomers (shop closed when their lease expired). Not so. I just brought my 5 month old corgi here for just a nail trim and all I can say is that my dog and I are very pleased! Kind of hard to look for, they are located inside the Kahala Atrium. They have a little private parking lot, so parking is not a problem. This little doggie salon looks so cute and chic on the outside. You walk in and the front area is quite small but it reminds me of a Japanese boutique. Whaddya know, they have one of their salons in Japan, also! We were greeted right away by one of their loyal customers who was also waiting for their dog. Our dog was super excited and happy and ended up trickling a little but the staff told us not to worry and cleaned it up right away, clearly knowing how puppies can get! The groomer came out (who was clearly from Japan) and our little puppy corgi went to her right away. Right next to the front area is another room with a huge window that you are able to see everything they do. They handled our corgi with care and I could tell she was a happy pup because her tail was wagging the whole time. I was surprised when I heard them filing her nails down after the cut, as other dog salons I've been to, filing is an additional charge! Once she was done, our puppy came running happily to us and her paws felt like, well, paws! No more painful scratch marks for us and I'm sure she was happy her paws were now pretty. Our total came out to $10.47 (tax included), which is very affordable and reasonable. Keep in mind, they don't take cards, it's cash only! My bf, corgi and I all left the salon feeling happy. I have been here at least 8 times and still Cody acts as if he has never met me or my dog, Charlie, before. I work with customers myself and it means something to actually remember your customers and make them feel welcome, no matter what their problems are. This time Charlie had some issues and I also wasn't as prompt to pick him up as I was before. Normally he takes 3-3 1/2 hours. Because they basically just cut his leg hair so short (he had matting and Cody made it clear they weren't up to the task) they took under 2 hours and Cody called twice. The second time he made it apparent with the tone of his voice that he was irritated. I have been to at least 2 other groomers before and no one has ever made me feel that way. I am very disappointed with their customer service and hope that I won't need to use them again. read more

Gotta review this place! Ever since I moved to Kahala side, I've been looking for a good place to take my dog to get groomed. I didn't really care for the way the last groomer cut her fur, so I was trying to find somewhere closer and possibly better. Low and behold, we came across this place and it's fantastic! My dog is usually shy towards other people, especially groomers and vets. My mom had taken her in since I was at work, and had requested for her fur not to be cut too short since she has skin problems. Couple hours later, the pup comes back and she's adorable! Her fur wasn't cut too short, and she came back happier than ever (this is extremely rare.) She didn't smell like perfume either, which was beyond fine with me since I don't care for that smell, nor do I care for the weird powder perfumes our previous groomer used. I'm really glad we took her here, and I'm more than certain we'll be taking her back again for her next grooming! On the side, if people are looking for a wonderful place to groom their dog, this place offers a 10% discount for first timers. I have been coming here for 3-4times. I really liked the service and their kindness till this time. Today, they disappointed me so bad therefore I'm changing my dog salon. I have asked for semi trim+shower/ brushing teeth and they said it will be $60 for semi trim+shower and brushing teeth will be extra $8 which is fine for me (Full service for my dog breed was $65 and I alway get full service and brushing teeth service). I have asked for trimming paws, ears, and penis&butt part but when I picked up my dog, I did not see much different as before. Well I am sure they did their job, I did not want to doubt so it was fine, but I could obviously see my dog's paw was dirty. I was asking them why it is still dirty. They said it is because they use organic shampoo and also said they washed two times. I could not understand because, why would I go dog salon if my dog is still dirty? And they sounded like "we did our job!". They told me they will give me $8 discount. In my mind, I was like "are you serious? I wasted my time and money. You refunding whole payment wont be even enough to cover my disappointment". I explained to them how feel and all the sudden, they tried to make up (giving me full refund) but sorry disappointment is disappointment. You have lost your repeat customer and I will not go back again (I have paid $8 discounted amount which is $60 and left the tip $15 FYI). I just felt like they do not care about their customers and not treating good. Oh right they told me his finger wad bleeding a little because They cut too short. Dog salon kahala is amazing! Brought my puppy, Kana in for a bath and haircut with special treatment. We just found out kana has a tear in her ACL, or hurt her back left knee, so I asked that they don't touch or try to bend that leg. They were very understanding and gentle with her. I felt okay leaving her there and getting my nails done to pass the time. I also asked if she would be done before 330 so I could get to work on time and he estimated about 2 to 2.5 hours just so they could be extra careful around her leg. But after an hour of dropping her off I received a call saying she was ready for pick up :) this gave me time to take pictures and relax at home before going off to work :) thank you! Kana came home smelling AMAZING and looking so happy and cute ! The place was incredibly hard to find so I was 20 minutes late... lol just park near assagios and walk towards the park.. This was my second time visiting this salon. Remember to book your appointment well in advance because they fill up fast! There's a lot of parking when you get there and the location was pretty easy to find. They offer a package where nail trimming and anal gland expression is included with the grooming. I liked how they keep records of what was previously done because I'm not super familiar with what kind of cut to ask for. I was very satisfied with how my puppy looked afterwards!! We just arrived to Oahu April 2014 and live believe it or not across the street from this place. Mom didn't know and was taking us to Petland in Honolulu spending over a hundred for what she is receiving here for a fraction of the cost. We have anal gland issues and mom cannot stomach it although she tried. Thank god they know how to even do this for a fraction of the cost. They all are more like family. Once Chico had a booboo on his bottom and panicked as we are still new to the island we called Kahala Dog Salon they came from home and met us at the salon and informed us this is an emergency not just an anal issue and told us to seek urgent care and we of course rushed out and did. They are not your average dog grommets by any means. They even have a special carbon bath that tickles and soothes our itches we are always leaping for joy when mom says we are going to and get our bath. You must go here and try them out every dog that we see leaving this place looks like they are entering a dog show. You just cannot believe the personal nurturing grooming they provide I have never seen it from the 3 states and many groomers we have visited. We are sold no other groomer for us exists. They even called us when they noticed and injury to our dog. I am not sure how it happened but it was hard for us to see until they pointed it out. This is my dog's first time to Dog Salon Kahala. When I first got there, I was told that I didn't have an appointment. This made me a little upset since I confirmed the appointment with somebody the day before. The staff speaks very little English which made communication a little difficult. However, the groomer made it right by taking him in anyway. I would have been terribly upset if she did not, because I drove all the way from Kailua to Kahala just for my dog's grooming. On a positive note, Miho, the groomer did an excellent job! My dog was not nervous nor anxious, like he used to be with other groomers. That was worth it for me. My dad always took my dog to the pacific paws place in hawaii kai because he's cheap about random things, but I thought I'd invest more in going here instead and it was sooooo much betTTERRRRR. I'm going to be honest about this, I don't enjoy the company of my dog. It's my grandma's so I honestly did not care about it's presence and didn't want to touch it because I thought it was kind of gross. Like yeah I know people that don't like dogs and dogs that don't like people are the ones you shouldn't trust or something according to the internet probably. But I didn't feel like dying from toxic dog stank at an early age just by touching this dog so there it is. ANYWAY so I arrange for my sister to drop the dog off at this salon and when I came to pick it up around 2 hours later they told me they needed another hour because there were SO MANY FLEAS ON IT that they had to re-do the flea dip bath thing a couple times over. I'm so so grateful for that. Like they actually put more effort than they needed to, to make sure this dog was flea-less. At the other places they just do the service once for what you paid for and if there are still some fleas left? Tough shite. And they didn't even charge extra! And they apologized for taking longer, but really I should've been the one saying sorry for unleashing this beast of burden onto them. So now I know that the dog was gross because it had fleas on it and I'm probably going to have to bomb my grandma's room and the entire house. And also take this dog back to this groomers again because I don't want it to suffer from fleas. The shop and area is super clean btw! and they sell the cutest collars, you should check it out while you're waiting for your dog to be pimped out. (there's also a place called helen's across the way if you're into the botox life style) After the extra hour my sister came back with the dog in hand and I had to take a moment... This dog came back with the most amazing afro and tail puff AND THEY PUT A SCARF THING so she looked like a scout or something idk. She was flea free and soooo cleaaannn and lovely to touch. It was like... was this what it's like to love? This salon is a national treasure & the groomers have the touch of god in their nimble hands. + I'm sure it's Japanese friendly if you're not too confident in your English and happen to speak Japanese So yeah, lay your head on this dog salon's bosom my child.
