When I came to pick up Puppy, she wasn't finished. Unfortunately, Puppy heard my voice and got very distracted making it impossible for Courtney to really finish Puppy's head--the most important part! I was disappointed immediately because her ears had been trimmed in layers. I had communicated, I thought, that I wanted her ears to stay all one length. I guess I didn't. I'll say that was my bad. After I got my pup home, I found lots of grooming flaws/errors-not sure of the word. My pup is a poodle mix so she has weird hair, curlier in some spots than others but curly. There were lots of places it was not even. Not even her paws. Now that I'm writing the review I'm realizing how crummy it was. If my puppy wasn't so adorable, I would have been madder then. (This was about three months ago. I'm just now getting around to writing this.) Anyway, she didn't even have her nails trimmed, which was something I had really hoped she would do. Courtney did tell me I could bring her back the next week to finish her, but my pup gets car sick so I didn't want to bring her back. Plus, I was disappointed in what she'd already done.

Then staff knows each dog and they treat each dog individually because they are all different. They love your dog, they watch them, and they take the best care of your dog everyday. The staff are the same people all the time and they all love dogs and it shows. My dog wants to go and will pull me in the door. That says a lot! He goes to daycare, gets a bath and brushing and teeth brushing, he also boards when needed. We have been going to Baxter's for over a year. We have an 1 1/2 year old Aussie and we also have a 17 year old fragile little Shitzu poodle and both are taken care of perfectly. I can't recommend Baxter's enough and all the reason above are why! They are amazing and they are affordable too! NOTE: This was OUR experience with other places ..... I took my dog to a big place for daycare and boarding , and also a chain place for day care. What I found out was that my dog wasn't getting to play and was being put in a kennel most of the day and no one was telling me at the big place. At the chain place he was just a number, staff was ever changing and not as personable and I wasn't getting the vibe I wanted there. Anyway, I was needing to go out of town and called Baxter's they listen to me on the phone, we took him for a free daycare day and then boarded him. They took excellent care of my dog and treated him like family and we have been going ever since. I hope this helps anyone looking for great care of their dog. I will start off with I know my dog is scared of dryers. I let the groomer know this as well. She…read morewas given a sedative an hour before hand. I dropped off my dog and got a call 30 minutes later saying she "cannot continue to groom her because she is too much" and she has to be picked up right now. My dog was not growling or biting, no, she couldn't continue her groom because she was scared of the dryer and got squirmy. I go to pick up my dog, and I knew she was going to be shorter than I like because she had gotten some matting from playing in snow, but this was down to the skin, and patchy, large spots never got touched or attempted to be groomed. I was so upset I just had to leave. When I got home I took her out of the car and I saw that there was blood on the ground from two terribly cut nails that are awful. I was never told about this. But if you injure my dog, wether it was her being squirmy or not it's your JOB to do this, and you should at least tell me! Simply put, if your looking for a groomer that will get about 3/4 of the way done with an already mediocre at best cut, possibly injure your animal, and then still charge you for it this is your place! Otherwise I would look literally anywhere else.

For our ShiTzu we asked, at LEAST 4 times to 2 different people, that they NOT cut her bangs since we are letting them grow out. No trimming from her eyes UP. VERY clear, many times, with their confirmation. We were close to her bangs being long enough to put into a ponytail which our dog is totally fine with. Not only did they ultra cut her bangs 1/3 of the way into the BACK of her head, think nerdy buzz cut, they cut most of her top knot so it's super short and barely any pony at all. A red flag was when I was on the phone w/ Hannah, I told her we wanted a fluffy puppy cut, and her response was "What do you mean by a 'puppy cut?'." They said they would keep her fluffy and use no lower than a 4 trimmer, she is at least a 3 in most places, maybe a 2 on her body! When I dropped her off at 11:50a, they said she'd be ready by 2pm. At 2:20 I called to say I was on my way and she said she needed at least another 20 minutes. I said that is fine, just call me when she's done and I'll come in. She never called me but I went in 40 minutes later, only to find they had been done for 30+ minutes. They never said how the appointment went, how my dog did, or if she was ok for the 3 hours she was there. When I mentioned that her bangs were short after my asking they NOT be cut, she replied "I couldn't get it all into a ponytail and it was in her face so I cut it." I said it was a week within being long enough, that I asked at LEAST 4 times that it NOT be cut, she said nothing. As they kept ringing me out I mentioned it again, seeing HOW SHORT her hair is, and she finally said "sorry." So we get to grow it out again, and she's super short all over. And she does NOT look like professional ShiTzu cut. I had heard SUCH good things about this place and I really thought with my asking so many people so many times that it would be close to what we were asking. SO WRONG. I will say that the positives are my dog seems fine, she has no scratches or burns, and she doesn't look HORRID, but she doesn't look good either. Take a look at the other hidden reviews...the most recent ones are not positive.

Instead of going to the other retailer down the road, I wanted to check this place out instead! Clean store, very welcoming staff, and great selection of food and treats. My Havanese was smelling everything - the vibes were nice and not chaotic. We ended up with bag of new kibble, and a dental chew. They have grooming in the back of the store, and a self dog wash center which is pretty cool. They also offer vaccinations every Thursday, as long as you sign up in advance! Near the register, they have shelves to donate goods for animals in shelters and little bios in case you are interested in adoting them! It has a really good local feel to it, and I think we will be back to try grooming for our hairy dude.
