He was a big 14 year old german shepherd and his time had come but it was unexpected and extremely sad. I am so grateful Yelp brought me to that Santa Monica Vet group that Sunday morning without appointment, that I was seen immediately, and that my pupper was given meds and eventually euthanasia to keep him comfortable the whole time. This team really went above and beyond after he passed. I wasn't expecting anything but his ashes back. When I brought him home I found a paw print, something I wish I had gotten, a handwritten letter from the entire staff, and a really nice urn. I really couldn't even get my words out when I went to pick his ashes up so I'm writing this review as a thank you to Dr Hinchey and staff, and the receptionist for giving my baby a peaceful passing. I know this is very hard work to do every day and I'm very grateful.

I don't feel comfortable bringing my cats here after that experience, unfortunately, as I want only correct & up to date information & advice from my vet med. *I appreciate the response & clarification, as I did have concerns with this cat in the home being aggressive towards my FIV+ cat, however the vet did state that it could be spread through grooming. It seems to me she probably misspoke, but it made me feel much less confident going forward with this doctor. I believe we must be quite careful about misinformation regarding FIV cats as they are already stigmatized & historically euthanized. Thank you!

Well that is exactly what they did. When my boy passed away about a week later I called to leave a message for Dr. Hernandez telling her about his passing and how grateful I was for the 16 years of care. They refused and not only did they refuse they lied and said Dr. Hernandez didn't want to speak to me, which I'm positive was a lie. Who would do that? Them. They talk about being in business for 50 years, well the office has been open for 50 years but not owned by the same people. (CONT'D DUE TO WORD LIMIT):…read more A small dog would practically have to be jumping up and down to create that kind of discrepancy. And if a dog's weight truly appeared to change by that much, that should have been an immediate medical red flag, not something casually charted and moved past. The experience at Green Dog often felt like in and out, in and out. After dental cleanings, I often got only a couple of minutes with a doctor, and sometimes felt I had to push even to get that. There was no sense of a meaningful doctor-patient relationship, no sense that anyone was pausing to look at my dog as a whole patient, connect his mouth to broader health issues, or consider how his overall condition might affect the safest plan for future dental surgery. When I ultimately went to the veterinary dental specialist I chose, the difference was profound. They examined him carefully, looked at him as an individual patient, explained what they found, gave me updates during surgery, and required a follow-up where they walked me through the details of what had been found and what it meant. That experience only deepened my sadness over the years I spent at Green Dog thinking I was protecting him. This time, under general anesthesia with the specialist I chose, his recovery was completely different. He was a little groggy at first, but within a couple of hours of waking up from surgery, he was alert, comfortable, in a good mood, and even playful. His personality did not change. It was a completely different experience. This is only my experience and my opinion, but I would never choose Green Dog Dental again for extractions. I wish I had known then what I know now. p.s. SCROLL DOWN TO THE "NOT CURRENTLY RECOMMENDED REVIEWS ON THIS AND SHERMAN OAKS LOCATIONS for dozens of similarly tragic experiences. I called veterinary hospitals everywhere--from the San Fernando Valley all the way to Riverside--but I couldn't find anyone who could see her on an emergency basis. I was incredibly fortunate to contact Green Dog Dental, where I already had an appointment scheduled nine days later. Knowing that my cat, Marley, was rapidly deteriorating, I explained the situation to their staff. They were kind enough to reach out to their internal medicine specialist, Dr. Geist, who immediately agreed to see her as long as I was willing to drive to their Venice location. The very next day, we were there. The Venice facility is beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming. Dr. Geist had already reviewed the medical records I had emailed ahead of time, and he took the time to perform a thorough examination and discuss Marley's condition with me. Dr. Geist was incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate, and thoughtful in the way he cared for both Marley and me. Although our outcome was heartbreaking and I ultimately had to make the painful decision to let Marley go, I will always be grateful for the kindness, honesty, and dignity with which he guided us through one of the hardest moments of my life. I also want to thank his entire team for the exceptional care and compassion they showed us. While their services are on the pricier side, they were the only practice willing to see my baby when no one else could. For that alone, they were worth every penny. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Geist and his team to anyone looking for exceptional veterinary care.

I have two cats. Both have been members for several years…read more I am having the most difficult time getting help this year. Every time I need help, the answers provided are not thoughtful. There seems to be a lack of tracking what issues my pet has, as well as what problems or barriers I have to providing care. I've had to announce on 3 different appointments this year how I an unable to provide for costs upward of $500 - ranging to thousands. I have to explain that my own health and healthcare are challenged with affordability. It makes no sense to have a customer explain this 3 times in 5 months - - but that is the outcome of my 3 visits this year. I have a cat needing support for kidney's but we haven't addressed that because it takes an hour and in person appointment to get eye drops. So in essence, the discussion suffers each visit due to being forced to again explain that most of the options for testing this and that are well out of my price range. Meanwhile, the cat is aging and I should be focused on what I CAN DO for her. I really feel uncared for as a pet owner. I feel really frustrated having to explain my financial position to so many staff members. The reality of my income and costs won't change but they don't seem to have a place to note this in their files. Overall, I'd like to see Modern Animal use some technology to better help the customer - which is ME. I am coming to take care of my pets, and when they are sick I do not appreciate the process of getting care being so disheartening. The final straw was today. I let them know that I ordered food through amazon for my pet, which needs approval. Last week they said they are able to approve and I can reach out after placing the order. Today, after placing the order they tell me they do not work with amazon and so more steps are needed. WHAT A GREAT TIME TO TELL ME THAT INSTEAD OF LAST WEEK WHEN I FIRST ASKED. I can not explain how much stress and wasted time have added up over the past couple weeks. The chat is not that useful if you get different information from different staff. There seems to be no central "care hub" to address my animals needs, with allowing for a general note on limitations or exceptions that I have communicated multiple times. They say they don't try to shame you. But I took a lot of time explaining that having to re-explain it with each visit and with each issue my pet has, is exactly that - shaming.

I think every pet parent can agree that the most important thing for our fluffy little ones is proper care and love from the professionals treating them. This is why I'm rating this place a 5 star. They were all terrific people and took wonderful care of my dog (and me!) during a high stress day. P.S. They also offer coffee and snacks and that was a lifesaver after being there for 3.5 hours.

I'm sure that they get people who skip out on their bills all the time but maybe that wouldn't be the case if they didn't charge out the freaking a-word for services.
