I remember coming to El Rey de la frita back when I use to live here. I have to admit I was half expecting it to have changed in taste since food quality seems to be diminishing everywhere as of late but not here. That familiar taste came flooding back, a taste of home. The crispy house made potato sticks, the cuban spiced meat patty and the slight crisp but then softness of the cuban bread all coming together deliciously in my mouth, heaven. Stopped by this place for a lunch before we had a chocolate tour down the street and it was super fast and convenient! This is my first time trying a Cuban frita place so I was excited, I love fries and burgers so it has to be good! And the crispy julienne fries were yummy. El Rey de las Fritas is just one of those spots that keeps giving no matter what. My parents are visiting from Jersey, and so my wife and I decided to take them to El Rey to go eat. The place is nothing spectacular. It's got a classic diner type of feel with counter seating and booths to match. The servers took care of us immediately upon being seated. I ordered the Frita Suprema (comes with queso blanco and maduros) as did my wife, my mom ordered the Clásico, and my dad ordered the Pan con Bistec de Tostones. We also ordered the Batidos de Mamey and Trigos. The food came out quick, and was nice and hot. It was a bit greasy but man did it hit the spot. The meat was salty, but the queso and maduros off set it nicely. The batidos were also very good, but I preferred the Trigo over the Mamey. Overall, a good bang for your buck place. We were looking for somewhere chill to eat after the beach and little did we know El Rey De Las Fritas was the perfect spot AND we was right by the Calle Ocho strip!! Almost like diner vibes. We got some steak & eggs, empanadas, croquetas, & their Cubanito Steak Sandwich. The sandwich threw me off cause I thought it was gonna be a Cuban with steak but this was next level! All the carne was so tender tasted amazing! The empanada was a little odd because, just like the waiter told us, the meat was directly in the middle and it was like one huge crust around the edge. The meat tasted good but I wasn't sure why they'd make it that way. It didn't show on the menu but of course they had fire Cafe con Leche so we ordered some with dinner and 2 more to go! We came here in January 2025, just after a trip to Versailles, and unfortunately after drinking two of their Cuban coffees! Our hearts were pounding when we walked in here! Very good Cuban spot walking distance from the heart of Little Havana. It felt like we missed the touristy hustle and bustle by coming here because it's about 0.3 miles down the road from the main tourist drop off. We stopped by late in the evening to try this place out as we had seen it on TV. We got the Cubano and the Original Frita with the potato crisps. We saw El Rey at the Netflix Specials and I immediately jot it down to visit when we come back from our Disney Cruise adventure. This did not disappoint! The restaurant is in a complex and the area has limited free parking at front but there are paid parking along the street. It's a sit down resto but you can take any available tables. We were given water as soon as we sat down. The menus are available on the table and every meal has spanish and english wordings in it. The ambiance was like a typical diner. Me and my son got te Cuban Sandwich, then the beef empanada, pork steak lunch meal and a side of plaintains and order of their sopa del res. The empanada came in first, and it was huge! Probably 40% has the meat qnd the rest are fried cover. It's Ok for me, the beef was on the salty side but the flour tortilla was so good. Then the sopa del res came, it reminded me of the Beef Nilaga that I grew up loving. The soup was so good and the beef was fall off the bone. Then the Cuban sandwich, and it was so good!! This place can get busy but there is a lot of seating, the place is clean, and the staff does a good job with their customers. There are pictures of many of the dishes, the staff do their best to explain the various items, though a big seller is the Original Fritas, which is a Cuban chorizo style hamburger in Cuban bread and with stix style potato chips (though its called Cuban style chips). I ended up having an Original Fritas, along with a Guanabana milk shake. Id highly recommend visiting this place if you are visiting Miami. I always love visiting this lovely Cuban restaurant when I pass through Little Havana. From what I know, this restaurant has been in business for many years, but it still looks nice inside - clean, and all the furniture is in very good condition. The overall vibe of the restaurant is really cool, and it makes me want to stay and enjoy the atmosphere. The staff is extremely sweet and friendly. I should mention that most of the workers don't speak English, except for one guy who's always there during the day. He's very helpful and always assists me with translation and communication with his colleagues. There are regular tables for seating, as well as plenty of bar seats. I personally prefer to sit at the bar because service is faster, and I get their attention right away if I need anything. The menu has a wide selection of Cuban food, but this place is especially famous for its La Original Frita Cubana, which is basically a Cuban-style sandwich with extra toppings. There are several variations of this sandwich on the menu, and they're happy to customize it if you want to add or remove anything. I personally love the Frita a Caballo, which includes a fried egg; plus, I always ask to add Swiss cheese inside. The result is super delicious, and I truly enjoy this sandwich! I've also ordered the Chicken Soup, Ham Croquettes, and Yuca Fries, and all of them were tasty. By the way, the ham croquettes come out very quickly because they're pre-prepared and just heated up. My only small issue was with the chicken soup - it had a lot of dark chicken meat, and I personally prefer only white meat. But otherwise, I really have nothing negative to say about the meals I've tried at this restaurant. Also, I have to mention the amazing, very tasty juices they serve. My bills were usually between $15-20, which is a great value for Miami. This restaurant accepts all major credit cards and Apple Pay, which is a big plus. Another advantage is the free parking, as the restaurant is located inside a long strip mall with plenty of available parking spots. And a Frita is a traditional Cuban burger made out of seasoned ground beef and pork (sometimes mixed with chorizo) on Cuban bread topped with shoestring potatoes. There are several El Rey locations throughtout Miami but this one is located in a small shopping on 8th street. Parking can be tricky since there aren't many options but not impossible. The restaurant offers booths and countertop seating along with a ventanita window service. Service is quick and friendly. As for the food, I always go for the Frita which is not only delicious but also a great deal as most of them are under 7 dollars. Today I went with the El Caballo which is a regular Frita with a sunny side up egg on it. When that yolk breaks, it just coats all that Frita with all its eggy goodness. Highly recommend. My wife opted for the Pechuga de Pollo. She also loved it and it came with rice and beans and an extra side which we got tostones (fried green plantains). For dessert we went with the Churros which were made to order and came out piping hot. Service was on point. They were very attentive especially given it was towards the end of the night and they had several tables. I recommend giving this El Rey De Las Fritas a visit not only for a good Frita Cubana but also to enjoy the old diner like vibe with old Miami and Cuba pictures throughout the restaurant.
