I remember coming to El Rey de la frita back when I use to live here. I have to admit I was half expecting it to have changed in taste since food quality seems to be diminishing everywhere as of late but not here. That familiar taste came flooding back, a taste of home. The crispy house made potato sticks, the cuban spiced meat patty and the slight crisp but then softness of the cuban bread all coming together deliciously in my mouth, heaven. Probably the most inexpensive place we ate at during the trip as well. I had mine with a fresh made melon juice, just perfection honestly. Service is friendly and attentive; the place is still reminiscent of an old school diner. I hope they never change.

Loved this place from their original sandwich to their coconut flan. Everything is sooo amazing! Love their guarapo so sweet and refreshing. You must try this if you're visiting Little Havana!

We were looking for somewhere chill to eat after the beach and little did we know El Rey De Las Fritas was the perfect spot AND we was right by the Calle Ocho strip!! Almost like diner vibes. We got some steak & eggs, empanadas, croquetas, & their Cubanito Steak Sandwich. The sandwich threw me off cause I thought it was gonna be a Cuban with steak but this was next level! All the carne was so tender tasted amazing! The empanada was a little odd because, just like the waiter told us, the meat was directly in the middle and it was like one huge crust around the edge. The meat tasted good but I wasn't sure why they'd make it that way. It didn't show on the menu but of course they had fire Cafe con Leche so we ordered some with dinner and 2 more to go! This place was SO good that we wanted to go back another day!

Excellent food and service. Had pan con bistec . It was delicious. The location is clean. The staff does a great job. I know when I want a great pan con bistec, I can come here and have one. The mariquitas are delicious too. Always order them as well.

Just on the outskirts of the main tourist attractions, which is great because it's not as crowded. Classic diner setting with fast service. Lots of local diners so you know it's legit with reasonable prices. The original frita was a delicious quick bite!

We came here in January 2025, just after a trip to Versailles, and unfortunately after drinking two of their Cuban coffees! Our hearts were pounding when we walked in here! I ordered the Fritas Supreme and my lady ordered the Cuban. My sandwich was an interesting mix of sweet and savory, and the ingredients were well layered. The Cuban was equally delicious. The staff here were awesome, all of them seeming to have a good time. Our server recommended the sugar cane juice, which we thoroughly enjoyed. This was an excellent stop, and if you want to learn more about this place, check them out on YouTube.

Very good Cuban spot walking distance from the heart of Little Havana. It felt like we missed the touristy hustle and bustle by coming here because it's about 0.3 miles down the road from the main tourist drop off. I really enjoyed the unique flavor of the Frita and the bread was great. The Cuban sandwich was good too but neither were super filling so I'm glad I got both. Glad we came but I'd probably try somewhere else next time.

We stopped by late in the evening to try this place out as we had seen it on TV. We got the Cubano and the Original Frita with the potato crisps. The Cubano itself was delicous with an amazing about of filling. The pickles, pork, mustard you could taste it all. The bread was nice and fluffy as well (really juicy). The Frita was not as good but it had some good texture, I feel it was kind of dry honestly. The staff was nice, but the only reason why I'm taking off two stars instead of one was tips was automatically applied and we were ordering this as carryout...I feel like given that I wasn't eating in and ordering to go this should not have been automatically applied. I would be careful in any case if you order as I was almost going to tip again on top of the tip that was mandatorily applied...

Super fast service, casual and cheap, and sooo satisfying!! I went silent while eating the Frita Suprema because it was so good. The best and most unique part of the suprema had to be the plantains. Mamey Batido was also delicious. Can't wait to try more types of Fritos and flavors of batidos!

Absolute GEM and will be thinking about this for a long time. While we took our fritas to go, it was so lovely to see plenty of people enjoying the diner style interior- it felt like the kind of place people of all generations enjoy and return to for years! I chose the Frita Suprema and was legitimately left speechless - it was such a texture and taste explosion with great crunchiness from the potato sticks, sweetness from the maduros, and excellent seasoning on the burger itself. I am planning my next trip writing this!!

We saw El Rey at the Netflix Specials and I immediately jot it down to visit when we come back from our Disney Cruise adventure. This did not disappoint! The restaurant is in a complex and the area has limited free parking at front but there are paid parking along the street. It's a sit down resto but you can take any available tables. We were given water as soon as we sat down. The menus are available on the table and every meal has spanish and english wordings in it. The ambiance was like a typical diner. Me and my son got te Cuban Sandwich, then the beef empanada, pork steak lunch meal and a side of plaintains and order of their sopa del res. The empanada came in first, and it was huge! Probably 40% has the meat qnd the rest are fried cover. It's Ok for me, the beef was on the salty side but the flour tortilla was so good. Then the sopa del res came, it reminded me of the Beef Nilaga that I grew up loving. The soup was so good and the beef was fall off the bone. Then the Cuban sandwich, and it was so good!! The best.. the bread was perfectly crisp.. it's the oerfect toast with crunch on every bite and the cheese melted. The taste was out of this world! We are surely coming back!

Absolutely phenomenal food and great service. Can't wait to come back someday! So good we had to come back two hours later for more

Sit at the bar for a fast and fun experience.

My opinion, don't hate me cause I'm going against the grain here. The place itself is great. The covered patio seating area in the rear is wonderful. The service was good. The food...eh. At least my plate (Bistec En Palomilla) did not live up to the reputation. It wasn't flavorful and it definitely wasn't accompanied by enough onions...c'mon it should be drowning in onions. The mojitos on the other hand were excellent. From a price point perspective it's good as well. Will I go back?? No, I wouldn't.

The food is the kind of Cuban cooking that makes you go quiet for a second: a beef and rice bowl with black beans, sweet plantains, and avocado that was rich and deep and comforting, plus a flaky empanada that disappeared in about four bites. Nothing felt like a tourist version of Cuban food. It felt like someone in the kitchen actually cares. Then the live music kicks in and the whole room lifts. A band right in the space, real Cuban son, the bartenders working behind that gorgeous bar like it is a performance of its own. The cocktail program is legendary for a reason, the cantineros are pouring with serious skill, and the energy is electric without being a chaotic club scene. Yes it is on the pricier side, entrees run into the thirties and up, but you are getting top tier food, world class drinks, and live music in one seat. Worth every dollar. Five stars, easy, and I am already trying to figure out when I can go back.

Unfortunately, our other server disappeared and never checked up on us. We pretty much didn't have any napkins during our entire duration of our meal. At least that part was good. We started off with a couple of mojitos and their Vaca Frita Tostones. You get these homemade maduro tostones topped off with shreeded beef in a moon sauce, pickled onion, and aji Amarillo aioli. A very delicious dish that didn't last long. Shortly after we received our main dish. I really hate when they do that. My wife ordered their Abuelas Ropa Vieja and I ordered their Masa de Puerco Chino. My wife didn't really care for her dish much. We've had plenty of Ropa Vieja before and would have preferred a congri type of rice as opppsed to just plain white rice. My dish was 10/10. Like in the name of "chino" this is an Asian inspired dish with fried rice, maduros, pineapple confit and crispy pork. A very delicious dish. It could have don't without the little salad on top, but at least it ads color to the dish. The crispy pork tasted so amazing and the fried had so much flavor. Mix in some of the maduros and you get a sweet and savory dish. Would definitely be returning to try this dish again.
