Food was delicious. Great atmosphere. Yenny our server was fantastic! $5 mojitos for happy hour.

This place is in the heart of Little Havana where most food is catered to tourists, which usually means overpriced and under seasoned. However, this restaurant does a really good job of serving authentic Cuban food. The service was really good, despite us sitting outside in the patio. Are drinks were replenished quickly and they were very accommodating to all requests. My chicken sandwich was very filling and genuinely really tasty. The mojitos were also good and packed a punch.

Super friendly and helpful staff, in English or Spanish. Huge portions all at very reasonable prices!! The food was delicious, everything was super tasty and the lechon was one of the best things I've eaten in a a long time and I will be thinking about it for awhile. Also didn't snicker when I ordered double dessert

Inside, Saturday morning

While in Miami recently, I Yelped for the best Cuban breakfast place and this one had the top reviews. It wasn't crowded early on a Saturday so four of us sat inside and enjoyed traditional Cuban breakfasts and cafe con leche. Everything was pretty good: The food, service and seating area. One hiccup: I received a $20 off offer (of a $100 purchase) by checking into Yelp when I arrived. None of the staff was familiar with the offer even though there were Yelp stickers on their doors. I wasn't about to leave without getting the discount so I remained firm and they eventually relented after calling someone. I was then told, "You'd better give us a good review!" OK, here it is...

Part of a little Havana tour. Very good Cuban coffee. Empanada had a very nice crunch. Ground beef with potatoes on the inside. A lot of different sauce options depending how spicy you want it.

Best Cuban food I've ever had. The service was also phenomenal and everyone was friendly, plus the food came out quick. Would return again!

Bandeja El Cristo

So we returned to Little Havana to grab some lunch. This wasn't our first choice, but the first choice was closed they day we were in the neighborhood. Cuban food. The server said "everything is good" when asked about the menu, which isn't very helpful. Not everything was explicitly Cuban, but he claimed it was "Cuban style". Also not very helpful. I ended up ordering the Bandeja El Cristo, and my wife ordered the Solomillo. Both were fine, but a little disappointing. The Solomillo was what appeared to be a stir-fry with a pile of rice/beans and a few slices of plantains. The flavor of the rice/beans was actually very nice. The "stir-fry" was nothing special. Meanwhile, my bandeja was a mixed bag. The tamale was almost all masa; very little filling. The rice was rice, the beans were black beans. Very basic, no seasoning. Then there were two cups with meat. Those were pretty good. I ended up mixing the rice and beans (which still wasn't as good as the rice/beans mix my wife was served), and the one meat with the tamale to make up for the fact there was almost no filling. The mango smoothie was all smoothie (i.e. creamy), and very little mango. My lemonade was better. All in all, a mixed bag of "pretty good" and "mediocre". And a bit pricey.

Ask the Community - El Cristo Restaurant

Are all menu items halal?

The restaurant is called El Cristo, what do you think? No, the answer is no. In fact, I'm sure none of the meat dishes are halal. They also serve alcohol, so there's that.

I was told that when you're in Florida ESPECIALLY Miami you HAVE to get Cuban food. And wow... now…read moreI understand why. As we were driving in, the place already looked beautiful. We came in the evening and immediately, as we walked up, there was music, people laughing, talking, smiling... the energy was incredible. I also loved that there was a bar off to the side while waiting. We ordered a few mojitos and sat outside at the tables and benches, just enjoying the atmosphere. When our name was finally called and we walked inside, I genuinely felt like I was stepping into history. The atmosphere here is unmatched. The music, the aromas, the people. God, I loved it here and I hadn't even tried the food yet. We ordered the braised oxtail (which came with plantains and rice), salmon glazed in guava BBQ sauce, ceviche tropical, assorted empanadas, and a Cuban sandwich. Everything was phenomenal. The sauce paired with the empanadas perfectly. The guava BBQ glaze on the salmon was absolute perfection. It was the perfect combo of sweet, smoky, and flavorful. The ceviche had the perfect acidity and tasted so fresh and refreshing. This is one of the most famous Cuban restaurants in Miami. It completely lives up to the reputation. Highly recommended

DIRT AND MUD IN THE SALAD!!! WATCH OUT…read more We ordered the salad with mango and pecans. They do not wash there lettuce. There was literally dirt/mud at the bottom and I took my first bite and it felt like biting into sand. Upon spitting the food out onto my plate it was black sludge. Literally my tongue and teeth were black. The waiter came by and grabbed the plate when I was in the bathroom. I spent about 10 minutes trying to get that BLACK SLUDGE out of my mouth. When I was spitting out the dirt/mud wife noticed the bus boys laughing at me and there was not a manger in sight. When I asked for a manager he did not even respond. No apology or anything just a look of confusion. Worst experience in a restaurant in my life and I love to eat and have been to many types of restaurant big and small. Cheap and expensive and this one takes the cake. We were so bummed as I see thousands of great reviews. But if there was a zero I would have given zero stars the way they handled the situation. If you eat there in the future make sure to check for DIRT/MUD.

The crispy house made potato sticks, the cuban spiced meat patty and the slight crisp but then softness of the cuban bread all coming together deliciously in my mouth, heaven. Probably the most inexpensive place we ate at during the trip as well. I had mine with a fresh made melon juice, just perfection honestly. Service is friendly and attentive; the place is still reminiscent of an old school diner. I hope they never change.

Only thing that almost soured our experince was an extremely unpleasant and rude hostess on the evening of April 5. She was rude as soon as we approached and asked for a table. I have no idea why she was so rude to us as we approached her with a hello and a smile. After she seated us I asked if we could perhaps move to a table away from the live music as I am hard of hearing and didn't want to sit right in front of the speaker. She spoke to me in Spanish which I told her I could not understand and she was also not speaking that loudly after I had told her I'm hard of hearing. Again I was being extremely friendly and patient but she rolled her eyes and was practically started yelling at us. She told us we could sit outside if we wanted even though there was plenty of open tables inside. Not wanting to anger her anymore we went outside to sit on the table on the curb. Another very kind server told us that was not necessary and there was a table inside for us. Our actual server was great. That hostess was so incredibly rude .
