My dog loves going to "school"... Which is what I call daycare. He plays with all of his friends (human and four legged). I love that they post pictures of all the animals daily so I can see what they are up to. When I pick him up I watch them cleaning and disinfecting everything which always reassures me that it's a priority. He did catch an illness that another dog brought in, but they were quick to let me know, quarantine all the doggies and verified he was clean when he came back to join his friends a few weeks later. Having my dog with a bunch of others, sometimes that happens so I don't blame them at all. What I appreciated was their quick response to it!! read more

We boarded our dog for several days while we were out of state. Before our trip, we were never informed that boarding was at a different location than daycare, which caused unnecessary stress at drop off. During our vacation, communication was extremely poor. After seeing a concerning photo of our dog appearing to have an altercation with another dog, we tried repeatedly to get updates. We had to keep reaching out ourselves and ultimately had to ask the owner to send us a photo because we had gone days without seeing or hearing anything about him. At pickup, we were initially charged the wrong amount. We had also paid for an exit bath, but were told it had been removed because they weren't sure whether it had been done. When we got our dog into the car, he smelled strongly like he had not been bathed at all. The most disappointing part was the way our concerns were handled. Rather than acknowledging them or apologizing, the interaction felt defensive and dismissive. We won't be boarding our dog here again. Communication, organization, and customer service all need significant improvement. read more

We started taking our puppy to this daycare after an initial trial day. Communication was unclear from the start -- we weren't told a trial was required until we arrived -- but we gave them the benefit of the doubt. From the beginning, staff repeatedly told us our dog "never rested" and played nonstop for 8-9 hours. While she came home happy, she was so exhausted she couldn't walk from the car to the house, often skipping dinner and collapsing from fatigue. There was no indication the daycare provided structured rest or quiet time for dogs, which should have been our first red flag. Within a couple of months, our puppy developed multiple illnesses -- kennel cough, canine coronavirus, and mycoplasma -- despite not being exposed to any other dogs outside daycare. Weeks of treatment and vet bills followed. After she recovered, we tried again many months later, only for her to develop warts, a cyst, E. coli, giardia, and additional infections requiring surgeries and more medication. We paused attendance again and eventually returned much later, hoping conditions had improved. After her first visit back, she came home with rashes, itchy paws, and a bite or scratch mark, plus diarrhea the next day. It's clear this facility lacks proper sanitation, supervision, and rest structure. Dogs are left to run without regulation or downtime, leading to stress, injuries, and illness. We've since switched to another daycare where our dog stays healthy, happy, and balanced after each visit. Owners deserve to know: this facility may look fun on the surface, but the lack of hygiene, structure, and care puts dogs at serious risk. read more

Came to add a review on Yelp since most of them seem pretty old! Me and my dog absolutely love this place! Whenever we pull in or I say the word "daycare" my dog loses his absolute mind because he's so excited to go. All the staff are so wonderful and lovely and they knew my dogs name only after the second day and anytime I come in ready to pick him up they know immediately which dog I'm there for I don't even have to ask, you can tell that the staff just really care almost like it's their own dog! I'm so so so thankful to have a daycare like this close to work and home and just want to thank the staff for always being so nice. There are only 1-3 dog handlers back in the big dog room at any one time. Sometimes none if someone decided to step out of the room for "just a moment". DCP can get anywhere from 50-100 big dogs each day, and with two-three yards that means that dogs are not supervised very closely. It is nearly impossible to manage that many dogs that are constantly overstimulated and not offered breaks or positive reinforcement of any kind. It's no wonder we would literally have to drag some dogs into daycare but we didn't tell their owners how much their dog hated it here. Dogs would get bullied, frightened, or even behave inappropriately regularly but that wasn't something we would communicate to clients. If a client specifically asked how their dog was doing we would share details but sugarcoat everything, for fear that we would lose them as a client. Only when absolutely necessary and only by recommendation of myself would we ever write up a dog for their behaviors. Since we weren't communicating problems to clients I simply started keeping track of all altercations between dogs at the facility in their account notes. I was the only one that tracked any sort of behavior at the facility, and yet the website claims to be teaching your dog better manners. We consistently ignored behavioral problems simply because we liked the dog and they were long term clients. We wouldn't write up dogs that had repeat offenses because "we could work on it", but when there are 2 employees supervising 80 dogs, we don't have the time to work on any behaviors routinely with the dogs. Especially since the only tool we had for training was 1) treats, which were banned in the yards a couple weeks before I quit or 2) physical force and intimidation - the primary form of correction we used to manage the dogs. And it's what we HAD to do to control the amount of dogs and problem behaviors. It wasn't all the dogs fault. Yes, some had very little training or had poor owners but most were good dogs that were just constantly overstimulated with the kind of environment they were in. One of the worst repeat offenders was a dog belonging to a staff member. This dog attacked another dog nearly every visit, sometimes multiple in a day. Sometimes it was random and the victim dog was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but there were also dogs she targeted and repeatedly went after. Eventually these dogs began to fear her, and daycare in general since this employee dog was attending every day despite the rule that an employee dog cannot come more than twice a week. This employee's dog couldn't even be in the same space as another daycare dog because her owner knew she would attack this dog. Of course, we tried to keep them separated but the employee's dog slipped through a gate and immediately attacked this other dog. I did my best to separate the two and in the process got bit. Only after an employee (myself) got physically injured did this employee dog get kicked out. I repeatedly brought up to management that I had concerns for the safety of the dogs here. I could name half a dozen dogs that had gone home with cuts and scrapes and bites within just a few weeks, but nothing was changing except we needed to "watch the dogs more closely". They refused to hire another staff member, saying it would just make things worse (??). They also justified their decision by saying they only had so many dog fights and injuries per year. The goal should be to have none, or at least as few as possible, not accept dog injuries as collateral damage for running a daycare. I am so glad I left and started working at another daycare that actually cares for the safety and well-being of their client's dogs. My only regret is that I can't take the DCP dogs with me. read more

For the past ~30 years my family has been taking our dogs to Joan / Doggy Come Play. For the majority of that time it was a great experience for us and our dogs. It was a small operation and the dogs got plenty of attention. It was great. In recent years, however, the operation has grown in size and from our perspective the quality has gone down significantly. At a previous stay my parents dropped off our chocolate lab and my sister's dog. Since the two dogs know each other very well they put them in the same kennel, but still charged my family the full price for both dogs. Because of this and other concerns we noticed, my family originally booked a Rover to avoid using this facility. But, at the last minute, the Rover host got Covid and we begrudgingly went back to Doggie Come Play one last fateful time. When my family dropped off our chocolate lab, she was a 9 year old lab who had just received a clean bill of health from the vet a few months before. Two days later we got the call that every pet owner fears the most. Molly had died. Doggie Come Play was short on the details, only saying they found her bloated and thought her stomach had flipped. If this was the case of death, she would have been in distress for hours beforehand, yet no one from Doggie Come Play did anything or even bothered to call us. Our family is heartbroken. Our dog gave us solace and comfort during our most challenging times in life and to know she died alone without any support or basic care makes us cry every time we think about it. When we called to arrange my sister's dog pickup, we explained that it didn't feel fair that we should be paying full price for her stay given that we dropped off two dogs and are only picking up one. Honestly, all we wanted was a gesture of remorse and empathy for our loss. Instead, Joan, the owner, was extremely defensive and remorseless. She immediately began playing the victim, saying they didn't kill our dog, she was already losing money by not charging us for the dog who did die (how could someone seriously say this??!!), and that one of her employees cried. Really??? She tried to compare the pain her employee is feeling to the pain our family is feeling. It was bad. Not once in the conversation did she show any concern for our family's loss. She made it all about herself. I cannot imagine how someone who is unable to show empathy towards other people in a time of grief is able to have any compassion whatsoever for the ~50 dogs she has under her care. Needless to say our family will never again be using Doggie Come Play. After reading many of the other reviews below, this lack of care and compassion for both the dogs and their owners seems like a pattern. I would highly discourage anyone from ever using them again. read more

Makes me upset that I have to write a review for a place that I was really hoping would be our second home for our dog Maximus during days he needed to let loose and boarding if needing. My husband and I put Maximus in boarding on the 26th and when my husband picked him up he asked the person how he did and was there any issues as far as problems and the answer was "everything was fine." - Well, I guess we didn't notice because there wasn't much blood on Sunday but Monday something tough was on the side of his face and was not swollen so we assumed that it was something he got into that made his fur on the side of his face very stiff. So we used a wet rag to wipe whatever it was. Didn't think much of it again. Maximus was laying on my pillow yesterday morning and when I wen't to move him and he got up, it was dry blood and blood marks as if he scratched it. The mark is a bite puncher and I was really curious to what happened on Saturday night or Sunday morning that the workers did not let us know. It's very odd because Maximus is a very friendly dog and can be very shy at times. We called twice and no one reached out to us. Finally called Wednesday AGAIN and spoke w/Chloe who gave us Trenten's email about the incident and still no response. read more

I've noticed that yelp isn't very big in Skagit County, but I love this place so much I needed to write a review. Critter Sitters and Doggy Come Play are kind of two separate entities; the address given here is for DCP, a doggy daycare facility right across the street from Burlington-Edison HS. This place is phenomenal - the guys who work there are so wonderful to my dog, and she is absolutely exhausted when she gets home; I have to wake her up for dinner. She is often one of the first dogs there at 6:30 in the morning and one of the last to leave a 6:30 at night. I buy the package of 20 visits, so it breaks down to only $16.50 a day. A STEAL for the amount of attention and play she gets during the day. Critter Sitters is DCP's sister boarding facility. It's about 8 or 9 miles further up the road in Bow. Also fantastic and also a huge bargain at $24/night. The pick-up and drop-off time windows are extremely generous. Every time I pick up my dog from boarding she is filthy (but not in a bad way) and exhausted...she goes straight to a bath and then crawls on the sofa to sleep for the rest of the day. I would highly recommend either facility to anyone. read more

We moved up here a year & a half ago and immediately looked for a daycare for our Angus. He's super friendly to dogs but very hyper....the staff at Doggy Come Play Daycare are so good with him and know just how to handle our big bundle of energy. There is always someone back with the dogs taking care of them, watching, training & cleaning :). I don't normally write bad reviews, but I am so pissed right now about what happened here i feel others need to know: If I could give a half star or zero, I would. I dropped my 11 month old puppy off at 7am. I about to take a long flight, 10 hrs, with the dog, and wanted him to be nice and tired for the flight. 45 min after dropping him off I get a phone call that I need to come get him. He is barking and trying to play with the other dogs. I get there to get him and they inform me that "He is just to high energy" for what they have going on there....REALLY?! Isn't that the point of doggy daycare?! To take an energetic dog and wear them out? If you have an "energetic" dog or puppy, do NOT take your dog here. read more

Knowing this would never happen, I called days later to ask again for the bed because I know my dog would never shred her bed, they miraculously found it?...Because of this and other concerns we noticed, my family originally booked a Rover to avoid using this facility. First, let me say I have been a long time client of Doggy Come Play and both the boarding and daycare facilities are very nice and well maintained and most of the staff friendly, but that's the extent of the positive. During the last boarding of my dog, who required special care at the time due to a surgery, I contacted the facility in advance of the boarding and was assured the special care instructions were not a problem and would be followed. When I picked up my dog after boarding, I discovered the agreed to instructions were not followed. I had called while I was gone and was told everything was going fine and there was no mention of the decision to not follow the care instructions. Nor was I called to discuss the change. When I asked why, I was told by the manager that he had made the unilateral decision. As a result, I wrote a letter to the owner expressing my concern. I was surprised by the response I received from the owner. It did not address my concern at all, but rather was a litany of false accusations by both her and the manager in defense of their actions. As long as you don't have to deal with this owner or the manager, Doggy Come Play is an okay place for boarding and daycare, but be forewarned. read more

I have boarded my dogs here several times. One of them is elderly and requires medication. He got sick while we were out of the country and the staff and owner were fantastic in caring for him. It's a great clean place and the employees that I have interacted with all care about the comfort of the dogs. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the boarding facility in Bow or the daycare in Burlington. read more

Came into town and needed a day care for our dog on the 5th of July. Went to visit on 4th of July, they were closed but owner showed us around - super nice!! Our dog went on the 5th of July and had a great time! When we picked her up she was happy and so were we!! Clean facilities, staff super nice and helpful. Will definitely recommend!!! read more

Each staff member was responsive to my voicemails making arrangements for my puppy's first visit, and accommodated our needs well. Joan, who's owned this family business for 13 years, was friendly and patient with my questions, and has many years of experience training and caring for dogs. When I picked up my puppy after a day of play, he seemed happy and perfectly worn out. I don't know of another dog care facility where you can drop off and pick up your dog at any time during business hours without scheduling, and I really appreciate that flexibility. read more

HORRIBLE!!! Bad reputation in local area!! I called this company to inquire about daycare for my puppy. They didn't answer so I left a voicemail as advised. I waited a day, didn't receive a call back and left another voicemail. 3 days later, no call back.. I left ANOTHER voicemail and finally got a call back.. 4 DAYS LATER. When they called me back and I asked about services, they were VERY vague and abrupt like they didn't want to help me. Bad experience from very beginning! Moving around as much as my family does I know how difficult (& stressful) it is to find a new place for your furry kids to go, especially when you previously went somewhere you loved. I have nothing but good things to say about Doggy Come Play! I work in the veterinary field & having a place that actually keeps up to date with vaccine records & makes sure it's 'guests' are safe gives me peace of mind. The facility always smells clean & is organized. My girl attends on average once a week & she looks forward to it. Prices are a complete steal when bought in a package. She whines as soon as she steps foot in & runs right to the guys up front! She's comfortable there & they always remember her name & even call her by her nicknames. My girl has a physical disability & when she first started going they asked questions & took the right precautions but never dismissed her. It's something that makes me go back every time. She's pooped out, socialized & happy when she gets home-what more could a pet parent want. I haven't used their boarding but have a reservation for the holidays & I'm positive I won't be disappointed. The owners/employees are absolutely amazing. Highly recommend!!!! read more

I wish I could say that I take my dog there for doggy daycare, because they seem like a good place. Unfortunately they use air freshener plug-ins and Febreeze, to which my wife is deathly allergic. We'd have to bathe our dog extensively each day and it would be way too risky. However, aside from our relatively unique issue, they were very friendly and helpful and answered all my questions. I filled out the new dog form online and did not hear back from anyone- it was unclear whether I would be contacted after submitting the form or not. But when I called, they were very friendly. The facility looks nice and the dogs that were there when I stopped by looked happy. The guy who showed me around and talked to me seemed to genuinely like his job and greeted each dog as they were dropped off. read more

Our dog LOVES Doggy Come Play, and so do we! As soon as we get close, he is up on the seat, excited to be going to play with other dogs. They are well supervised, and my pup always comes home happy and exhausted. The facility is clean, friendly, and very reasonable. We have also used Critter Sitters for extended stay. Again, a beautiful, clean, well run business. For a little extra, your dog can have house privileges, too. We love that option. read more
