My coworkers and I used to visit Doghouse every now and again a couple of years ago. I came to expect good food and good customer service. This visit was disappointing. Before my Mom and I went, we checked the closing hours. According to our online search, the restaurant closed at 9:30pm. We weren't far away and confirmed via GPS that we would get there by 9:03pm. As we were arriving, I noticed a worker had started removing the outdoor sidewalk sign back inside the restaurant. I asked the worker if they were closing and was told yes. The owner or manager, I would assume he was, stated we could come in. We drove around the building to a dark parking lot. Once we parked, the owner/manager, who was taking out the trash, questioned where I parked. I had parked behind, probably, his car which was closest to where we had to walk around to the front to enter the restaurant. I told him I quickly parked so we can get in and order. Once we entered the restaurant, we tried ordering. The owner/manager was very inpatient once he realized we were ordering food and not ice cream as he said he thought we wanted. I ordered a Chilli Cheese Dog (no bun). Mom got a Regular Hotdog (with condiments) and Plain Tater Tots. As we waited for our food, at least five people came in for ice cream. Our food was prepared in a reasonable time. We left approximately 9:23pm. Mom was satisfied with her food. My Chilli Cheese Dog was short on the Chilli. There was not a lot of Chilli on the hotdog. Recommended a friend to come here for a quick lunch on 10/10 and was very embarrassed. One woman was running the shift store. She cancelled this elderly couples payment for their grandson because they left the top blank and asked them to pay/ swipe again. The man who ordered after me and my friend made a joke when picking up his food about his food just sitting there because he was in the corner of the restaurant waiting for a while. When he turned around she squared up at him and mumbled remarks about not talking to people that way as if he had insulted her personaly. Not a good look. We stopped at the Doghouse a couple of weekends ago as we were visiting College Park. We ordered 2 Combo Chili Cheese Dogs ($13.10 each) with an order of Totchos (Tator Tots with Green onion, cheese sauce and bacon) and a canned soda and the second combo with an order of Pizza Tots. The Hot Dogs themselves are thick and flavorful. The Tator Tots tasted fresh and crispy. The Chili was spicier than we enjoyed so we would probably not get chili again....but there are so many toppings to choose from that that will be just fine. They also have ice cream that we will have to try on our next visit. There was only one visible employee and he cashiered, prepared our food and delivered it to our table. Unsure how this place exists. My wife and I dropped by for lunch and ordered one Chicago dog with salt and vinegar tots and one vegan dog with regular tots. The woman attending the front seemed upset we were bothering her (my "thank you" when she took my order was ignored as it was when our food was delivered). I had figured it would be hard to screw up hotdogs and tater tots, but Doghouse exceeded. The hotdogs were just under room temp, and my wife said hers was actually cold. The tater tots were very obviously reheated and entirely unappetizing. Just a seriously crummy experience to pay $30-something for. Our experience of the Doghouse boils down to old, bland, unappetizing food and rude service. Shame, too, as I love a good Chicago hotdog. read more

They give you a nice, healthy portion of food and it was definitely filling. I've been wanting a really good hot dog for a while now and this place completely satisfied my craving. I saw some buzz about this spot from some of my foodie friends on Instagram and hadn't had a hot dog in a long time so figured we should check it out! My boyfriend was excited since he is always up for a good hot dog. We decided to do a to go order and did one combo plus two additional dogs. We shared a chili cheese dog, my boyfriend chose their BLT dog, and I decided to try the reuben dog. For the combo, we did urban tots as a side which is their tots with garlic aioli and Parmesan. Everything was nicely packed and still warm and fresh when we opened it up at home. The tots were delicious! They were crispy, not greasy, and the garlic aioli sauce was amazing. The chili cheese dog was loaded with flavorful chili and a generous amount of cheese sauce. I love that the buns they use hold up even with all of the toppings while still being soft. They didn't get soggy at all. My Reuben dog was also really tasty. There was a good balance of toppings and the melty Swiss cheese complimented everything perfectly. The dogs themselves have a great flavor and are thick and filling. I ended up saving some of my food for lunch the next day. The dogs didn't have as much of a snap as some spots, but that may have been more due to them being take out. They were still really good. I've been to this place once, years ago. That was back before covid. I loved it at the time. The first time I visited, the counters were staffed by a vibrant crew of enthusiastic young people, food was terrific and the atmosphere was charming and dynamic. Since I moved in the College Park area recently, I had recommended it to my housemate. Today when I found myself walking down Edgewater and ravenously hungry at 3:30 pm, I decided to stop in for a hot dog. The way I was treated by the man working the counter was so dismissive, I will never go back or recommended the place to anyone ever again. I ordered a chili cheese dog to eat there, and paid cash. When I handed him a ten, and couldn't come up with 2 pennies so he wouldn't have to count out change, he acted like I was a pain. He then prepped and packed my chili cheese dog in a togo Styrofoam container and looked put out that I sat down to eat it there. After I was done, while I was waiting for my rideshare, he was hustling back and forth doing shop maintenance tasks. He seemed irritated by my presence so I asked him if it was his closing time and offered to wait for my ride outside. He scoffed at the question and baked at me "Why would you think that? I can't imagine any fast food place that closed before 10 being able to stay in business." I replied that I had asked because I was just waiting for a ride and I could wait outside if he needed to close up. Again, he dismissively said "No, stsy if you want." When my Lyft was going to take 20 minutes to get me, I decided to have a scoop of ice cream. The exchange of ordering and paying was a repeat of being treated rudely and like he thought I was an idiot. The hot dog was okay. I can make better at home. The ice cream was good. But I can get either without feeling demeaned and dismissed and paying for the experience pretty much anywhere else, and I won't forget that ever. read more

The aesthetic of the restaurant is very cool and looks very fun - there's a sofa fountain place next door to it that's connected. That looks more appealing and appetizing. This place has a good range of specialty hot dogs which I like. I got the Chicago dog, which came with some pico de gallo toppings and jalapeño peppers. It got a spice kick to it from the Jalapeño peppers. I really loved their tots, they also have a wide variety of tots that you could try. I live the blue vinegar tots, which is like almost similar to putting malt vinegar in your fries. It had a great taste to it. I would love to try the other tots. Other than that, nothing too special about these dogs. Something you could make by yourself with some of your own ingredients. read more

Dogs are the toddler's go to meal, which is great because we are a dog-friendly family. Kids meal for her, cheese and slaw dog for me, some own creations for the husband, plus a tot sampler of Mac n cheese, totichos, and urban tots. The loaded tots are a must try! Go with the sampler, especially if it will be a few of you enjoying them (I couldn't finish them all for myself). The slaw here is creamier than I'm used to, but it was a great dog. Went in the other day with my twin sister, my little sister and my niece because the first time I tried it , it was SO GOOD Idk something happened but the male that was there barely paid attention to us (he was busy on his laptop) to even bother to speak to us about anything. He also charged us for additional cups when we took two ice cream cones to go in the car on a hot day... u would think you would just give them so we didn't ruin our clothes or car , he gave us only one napkins for our cones including my niece who had ice cream all over my car by the time we buckled in... I called in and ordered two chilli hot dogs. I asked the man on the phone if he could cut one of the hot dogs in half and split it between the two because their hot dogs are a little thicker than I'd like. I told him if he couldn't do it, don't even worry about it, I can at home. He told me it was fine and they would be able to do it. Awesome. When I went to pick up the order they showed me the two chilli hot dogs and there was another hot dog (no bun)cut up on the side. I assumed that they cut up the second dog (the one I didn't want) and put it there for me since I was paying for two anyway. When I got home I realized that the two chilli hot dogs I ordered weren't cut in half and the cut up dog was actually an extra (3rd hot dog) that they added. I also realized that they charged me for this extra hot dog. I ended up calling back because I was charged for a extra(3rd) hot dog and bun. Although I know it's not a big deal, I didn't want to pay almost 6 dollars for a cut up hot dog that I knew I wasn't going to eat. I then called the restaurant and explained the situation and asked if I could bring back the cut up hot dog for a refund since again, I didn't order it. The man who answered was so rude and dismissive and told me they can't offer a refund because I already left with it. After going back and forth with him he told me he's not going to give me a refund because he knows his manager will say no. I asked for the manager numbers and decided to call him the next day. When the manager (owner) answered and I told him why I was calling he IMMEDIATELY interrupted me and told me word for word that I was lying and had ordered 3 dogs. I paused in shock to be honest. One because I didn't expect to be cut off so quickly and two because he called me a liar despite not even being at the store when I ordered and despite the fact that I didn't lie about anything and his employees (who I'm 99% sure was high at the time) was the one who took the order wrong. Again not a big deal but the victim blaming was crazy. After going back and forth with the owner as well he finally told me I could get a refund if I bring the hotdog back. (This was the next day by the way) I told him it was in the trash. He told me to take it out of the trash and bring it to him if I want a refund. After making sure what I heard was correct, I did exactly that. Lucky for me I didn't eat any of the hot dogs because after going back and forth with the worker the night prior, my food was then cold and nasty. So I went back. The next morning I showed up with my three dogs and asked for my refund. He then had the never to asked me why I brought back all three. I responded " you already asked me to go into the trash to bring you the uneaten hot dog and now you're asking why I didn't go into the container and remove the other two?" Long story short, don't eat at this establishment. To mess up an order is one thing but to tell someone you won't be refunding them because "they already left with it" and then being asked to take it from the TRASH is another. read more

Nothing like the tots you would expect. Not crispy outside and dry inside(hence freezer burned. The dogs also tasted like they had been on a rotation grill for hours past their prime time. The outside skin was overcooked and wrinkled. Toppings were actually good and fresh. Staff was dreadlocked hit woman with piercings who was more I to her phone than keeping the place clean. Old food and sauces seemed splashed liberally about. Tables were dirty. Windows were dirty. Glass jars holding plastic cutlery were dirty. Floor was dirty. You get the picture. S6.95 for a hotdog? The Dog House gets major points for creativity with its wild and unique hot dog creations, like the Tutti Frutti (PB, raisins, and honey) and the Taco Dog (served in an actual taco shell). These innovative combinations are fun, and they definitely push the boundaries of what a hot dog can be. However,they are in the doghouse a little bit (no pun intended) because the hot dog quality itself was a bit underwhelming. The dogs were fine, but not exceptional--just your standard fare. To make matters worse, both the buns and taco shell were stale, leaving them dry and lacking the fresh, crisp texture you'd expect. So while I'm all in for the quirky ideas, the overall experience didn't quite live up to the hype. If you're into trying new things and don't mind a bit of mediocrity in the dog department, it's worth a visit, but don't expect perfection. Used to come in here weekly, if not more frequently when the business opened. Decided to have lunch here with my boyfriend today for nostalgia purposes. Tots come out, burnt. Tots are replaced. Hot dogs are cold inside, and due to the fact that we're in a hurry and it would take "20 minutes" to cook a new one, he takes my boyfriend's hotdog and puts it already eaten back in the oven (gross). The employee didn't seem to understand why this was gross. I managed to get a refund for my hot dog as I definitely didn't want it being thrown back in the oven having been eaten prior, but we ended up paying about $18 after being refunded for my hotdog for burnt tots, cold hot dogs, and a can of coke, because the fountain is broken but we're still charging the same price for a canned coke as a refillable fountain soda. I should start by saying that we were driving down Edgewater with no intention of eating lunch. As soon as we drove past DogHouse we knew we would end up eating it at some point today. Not even twenty minutes later we were at DogHouse browsing the menu. The food was absolutely amazing, 10/10! We have eaten at other hotdog places in the area and after today we know this is The One. All the places are about the price, but this place has the best value for your money. The hotdogs themselves are huge and much larger than a traditional ballpark hotdog. The BBQ tots we had were topped with a rich BBQ sauce, bacon and finely diced onions and those were stellar!!! They have a beer cooler so I decide to see the variety. After seeing it, normal, we decide to leave cause we don't wait no more. After getting in the van the owner comes rushing accusing us of stealing a beer or whatever in that cooler. He came aggressive, I was lost in what he was saying. I don't know how it tastes but definitely not coming back because of this. I got money. Just was wearing working clothes so I look dirty. I did notify the staff of the bread and they apologized and said they're aware of the problem. I do hold chicago dogs to a high standard, that being said its an overload of mustard and relish on a stale bun two sizes too small. Tots are OK. One of the chairs was completely missing a back and another had the fabric of the bottom hanging out.
