Based on reviews, I boarded my dog (and cat) for two days while we vacationed in St. George. The evening after picking up my dog, she started getting sick - lethargic, high fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. I took her to my vet the next morning and she was dehydrated with a high fever and was hospitalized with a $900+ vet bill. My dog had picked up a bacteria which they assumed came from standing water. My initial call to Dogtown after my dog was hospitalized was to try and find out if there had been other dogs that had been sick. During the call and a later call, the person I spoke to was only concerned about placing blame on me and stating my dog probably has underlying health issues (which isn't the case). I am glad many have good experiences but so you are aware, if your dog gets sick during their stay, Dogtown isn't empathetic. Their stance isn't asking how your pet is but rather making sure they aren't liable and placing fault elsewhere. read more

They're awesome. When I bought my puppy I visited about 5 places around and I found this one to be the best. We are moving out oft state but for my dogs 1yr we used this place about 4 different times for as long as 5 days in a row and I was sure my dog was safe and cared for. The place is clean and the people really seem to care for what they do. I'd definitely recommend this place! Thank you for everything DogTown! by lynne.williams.39 on 06/16/2013 I am a volunteer with a small dog rescue. We have been taking our rescue dogs to Dog Town for day care and boarding for a couple of years. The dogs LOVE it and come home tired out (yay!). The attendants for the dogs are plentiful,responsive and very knowledgeable. They play with the dogs all day and give me reports on what they did. There is an area for small dogs and large dogs. The workers and owners inform me immediately with any problem a rescue dog may have (not eating, excessive licking, etc). I would recommend Dog Town day care and boarding to anyone. PS: to show you the quality and compassion of Dog Town's owners, Jon and Theresa, they allow us to bring our dogs in for free. They recognize how important dog rescue is and that the dogs need to stay socialized and exercised. There are many good doggie day cares out there but none better than Dog Town! My dog was injured here during a boarding stay. I have been boarding my dogs here for years. My first indication that the new management (John and Teresa are no longer owners) represents an absolutely unacceptable change in how this business operates was being told that my dog had defecated the bedding in his kennel. That's an indication that dogs are not being properly cared for at this site. This was not to be the worst indication however. I was told, after making payment mind you, that my dog had lacerated a paw somehow during his stay. They had no idea how it happened (bigger problem than it happening, really. That reflects a lack of awareness of the environment the dogs are in, what hazards may be there and what they are doing). While they bandaged it up, they didn't bother to contact me about the injury until pickup. Years of leaving my dogs here with confidence are now long gone. I'll never be able to trust Dog Town Kennels again and post this review as a warning to others. It is not the same business after this year's ownership and staffing changes. Dogtown it's the best daycare and boarding in town. I've tried several of them throughout out the years, and this one the best. I use their services on a regular basis: boarding, daycare, dog wash and grooming. It's just convenient to have them do the wash for me. The prices are reasonable. They have friendly staff, and they take really good care of each dog. My dog Danna LOVES them all! John and Teresa (the owners) have helped me with Danna's training, specially with her territorial behavior. We had decided that it was time to get our son a puppy, neither of us were Dog people, and really had no clue what went into having a Dog. We contacted the owners about their sit means sit training program. Our puppy was too young to be a part of it, at the time, but Teresa took the time to give us advice without us even committing to their program. Part of the training package we purchased included some free stays at "daycare." Our puppy had an issue with bigger dogs, and we were nervous about taking her anywhere that might make her scared. John assured us that they will keep her with Dogs her own size, and will watch her to make sure she acclimated. The first few times we took her, she was nervous but John always greeted her, and always made her feel special. Within a weeks she was jumping out of the car when we arrived, and eagerly went into the back. She made a lot of friends, and each time we came Teresa always asked how she was doing and gave us advice. Both owners are genuinely interested in their customers, and are so great to be around. If you are looking for a great place that will treat your dog better then you probably treat them :), you need to bring your dog here. Today our puppy cries every time we get into the car, because she thinks that we are heading to daycare with out her. Or she will cry when we don't head towards Daycare, She knows the route and acts like a kid waiting for Christmas morning every time we take her there now. She would probably go herself if we didn't have a fenced yard. read more

They are the only ones I trust to take care of my dog when I am out of town. The owners are always on site and take care of the dogs like they were their own. My dog has even learned some good behavioral tricks from attending their daycare. I would highly recommend this kennel and daycare. They are professional and their pricing is very fair. read more

I am very disappointed with this boarding and daycare facility. While my dog was under their care, he managed to consume ice melt and became very sick. He vomited 6-7 times, though I was only informed of 4. He was dehydrated and needed veterinary care. He had to be given fluids due to dehydration and was then prescribed an antibiotic. They seem to have no idea how he managed to get into the ice melt or how much he consumed. They say he had no poison in his blood work so they have no responsibility to pay for any of the vet bill. He was being boarded while I was on vacation so i was not able to be there to take him to the vet, while they did take him to they vet, they refuse to claim any responsibility for the incident, other than a "sorry your dog was sick" and i am left with a $500 vet bill and a huge distrust of a company I once considered great. Thank goodness my dog made a full recovery, but this was a dangerous situation. Know what you're getting yourself into. The only person I've been allowed to correspond with is the manager, McKenzie, and she was not willing to work with me at all. She hung up on me when I called to discuss my situation and told me she was given specific directions not to discuss my matter further with me, but provided no alternative options for me to speak with some one else. This is a super unprofessional way to handle a very dangerous situation. read more

WE LOVE DOGTOWN! They are the only daycare/kennel that we would trust with our 2 dogs. Their many years in dog training makes me confident in leaving our *sometimes incorrigible* American Bulldogs in their care while we are out of town. The owners and employees are always terribly friendly, and make us feel very welcome. When your dogs feel like a part of your family, it is important that you trust the people who look after them. We hit the jackpot here. But the secret is out! They book up pretty fast for kenneling on major holidays, so give yourself plenty of lead time in reserving your spot. It is well worth it. read more

Another five star review for DogTown. I spent a year in SLC traveling every weekend and they took care of my husky. They gave him the attention, affection, and discipline he needed (as I requested). I think these guys are great. It is a good place to have your dog if he can't be home. When I have contractors coming over or my dog just needs some socializing with other dogs he spends a day at dog town. Always comes home more relaxed and less anxious. read more

I don't often give the maximum approval for businesses, but Dogtown, Jon, Theresa and their staff deserve it. I was afraid my dog could never be off leash. If she caught a scent or saw something interesting, she became deaf and did not respond to any command. I was afraid she would either run away or get hit by a car. We left her with Dog Town for immersion training and she is a different dog. She still is really interested in hunting, but she responds to commands like "leave it" and "come" immediately. We are very pleased. When we take her there for day care or boarding, she is so excited, we can hardly hold her back. Another reviewer said the staff never remembered their dog's name, but that hasn't been the case for us. They always know who we are and they greet Daisy by name. I would heartily recommend them for training, boarding and daycare. read more

When we got our new dog from the Humane Society, we didn't know how wildly energetic our people loving and dog hating pup was going to be. After a few encounters with other dogs we were in great need of training, both for us and the dog. By luck we contacted Dog Town Kennels, and met Jon and Theresa Cain. They care as much about our dogs well being as we do. With their dog friendly and owner tolerant style, they take the stress out of training and boarding our dogs. This is the best daycare place for your dog!!! We were on a ski trip from out of town and needed a place for our dog for the day. We found DogTown Kennels on yelp and decided to give it a try. The place is so clean and the owners are so friendly and really understand and care about dogs. The dogs have a very large indoor and outdoor place to play and have a great time. When we picked up our dog he wanted to go back and play and not get into the car. That night he was so tired and went to sleep early. Dogtown has the best prices, it is half the price of other cities. If you live the area or from out of town and need daycare or boarding this is the place to go! 1st rate in every way! My dog Jack has been going to Dog Town since he was 6 months old. Jon and Teresa treat him like family and he doesn't even look back to say goodbye when he gets there. It's like home for him. We adopted a Best Friend's rescue a year ago and they welcomed and helped our new wild child (Zena) adjust as well. Even after all the trauma she'd been through, our new baby settled right in at Dog Town. I always know they will be well taken care of and loved while I'm away. It's a huge relief to know you can trust your pet's safety to others. This is more than a boarding facility. They specialize in dog training and are hands on in every way. Luv! read more

Don't let the no nonsense looks of this place fool you. The employees care, they know your dog's name, they are present in numbers, and they truly love dogs! My goldendoodle gets so excited to come here! I love that they take you on a tour of the facility the first time, and the genuine hug they gave my boy at the end of the day warmed my heart! I have lots of confidence that they do their best to care for each dog, and I'm sure my dog likes the people as much as he likes the other dogs. Worth the money, and very reasonable. read more

I just had the most horrible experience with Dog Town Kennels and I would like to spare anyone else the hassle and time of taking a new dog to their facility. When I went in for the first time the help at the front desk (Mandy) seemed put out to even answer my questions and told me I'd need to bring them back for an "evaluation" before they would book our stay and talked to me like I was five and had never owned a pet before. On my return trip for their "evaluations" Mandy took my two small dogs and put them back to a place I wasn't able to see or observe them and she told me there was no way to watch them. When they took my med. size dog to be observed she was gone less than 5 minutes and returned with her and told me she was too "scared" and wouldn't be a good fit. I asked if I could watch her so I could see what they were talking about and she told me no that was not possible. I explained this was her first time at a Kennel and that she'd been to several dog parks and did just fine. I asked if I could help ease her into it a bit so she wouldn't be scared and Mandy told me No. I even offered to pay for some private training to help her get over her fears and Mandy said it would take longer than the two months I had before our trip and there was nothing I could do and offered no suggestions. I was very unimpressed with the staff and the owner Teresa. When I explained how her staff had treated me and the experience I had. She told me i should "be lucky" they did not want my dog. Yes I am VERY LUCKY they did not want my dog. Because I took her to a competitor who spent time with her from the beginnning getting to know her and helped her to get to know her surroundings and helped her overcome her fears. It took her about 30-40 minutes of being helped and she was running and playing with all the other dogs. Called and got pricing information from Jon (owner) for boarding 2 dogs/6 nights. Apparently there was a misunderstanding about a ksl deal but was told they would honor the price Jon quoted. When I went to pick up the dogs, they charged me for 10 nights instead of 6. When I pointed it out, the manager was so rude and said they had discounted it enough and it was my fault and that Jon doesn't normally give pricing information because??? - maybe they shouldn't let him answer the phone then. I hope they treat the dogs better than they do the humans. Will never use them again. read more

I am convinced my dog loves the team at Dogtown more than he loves me. He is uncontrollably excited every time I drop him off and never as quite excited when I pick him up - a good sign, I think. I have taken my dog to two other kennels in the Salt Lake area, and only because I called Dogtown last minute on holiday weekends and they were booked. Both times were very negative experiences - he came home seemingly lethargic, wouldn't eat, etc. Never have this problem with Dogtown. He comes home happy and exhausted from a fun day. The owners are very knowledgable and alert me to anything they notice as out of the ordinary. Finally, and most importantly, the staff at Dogtown treats my pet as their own and always shares stories about his daily antics. Prices are more than fair for both daycare and boarding. As an overly protective pet parent, I feel confident referring this place to anyone and everyone. read more
