I own a place up here, and I spend at least one weekend every few weeks in Lake Arrowhead, and I've been to Dogwood a couple of times. For the mountain, it's solid, the bartenders are friendly, the drinks are good, and the food is decent. That said, my main concern is with the atmosphere. It's... fine. And that's exactly the problem. As most of us know, there's a serious lack of entertainment options up here, especially for people under 60. Despite the older demographic, there's still a sizable group of younger, creative, and social folks looking for something to do. Sure, you could be satisfied with a '70s rock cover band for the 100th time in the village, but if not, then Dogwood has the potential to be the go-to spot if it just puts in a bit more effort. The last event listed on your website was in 2019. The last Instagram post was over two months ago, and the one before that was for New Year's Eve. With that kind of minimal effort in promoting and programming, it's no surprise the vibe is lacking. If Dogwood committed even 50% effort to curating consistent experiences and letting people know about them, I believe it could be one of the best spots on the mountain. Come on guys, my 94-year-old grandmother could do a better marketing job than you, and she barely knows how to use the internet. If you do better, you will be better! read more

Was camping in the mountains and needed some food and beer. I was impressed with their menu. It had sushi on it and did not disappoint. We also had the Carne Asas fries. The Carna Asada was sliced thin and did not have any gristle. A total bonus when eating this type of meat. Great service too. I didn't get the bartenders name but she was so accommodating to EVERYONE at the bar and in it. Without skipping a beat. I was pretty impressed. It seems to be the local watering whole. Our service at the bar was fast and friendly and wow, really generous pours of our drinks on the rocks. I really like this place. We like going here to get their amazing chicken Caesars salad wrap. We also like Sushi night. The fish is really high quality. It may look a little divey when you walk in. Don't let that scare you away. The place, including the kitchen, is very clean. Your best bet is to go to the bar and order. It's what most locals do. Its also a good chance that you will meet some of the regulars. They usually sit at the end of the bar. There are quite a few regulars that you can meet that are characters in a very good way. read more

Glad I found this place. I looked it up on yelp and it looked interesting. The food is of restaurant quality not bar food. We started with Chips and salsa. The chips are homemade and fresh, salsa was amazing. For dinner, I had a burger with cheese. That was delicious, it came with a pretzel bun. My husband had the Ceasar chicken wrap. He liked it a lot. It was a very light meal if you're not that hungry. I had a margarita there. It wasn't the best-made margarita. I tasted more alcohol than the flavor of the margarita. It just tasted like watered-down tequila. That's the only reason I put 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that I recommend this place. read more

This place would probably be the best on the mountain if they got rid of their worst bartender. She works all the time, always has an attitude, and can't be offered help or told advice. She can't make simple 3 ingredient cocktails, and when you explain to her how she gives you an attitude every other time she sees you. She will 100% talk mess about other patrons to you if you seem friendly. She's never on the right side of the bar and loves to go out to the patrons and talk with everyone. She boasts a ton about her experience but like I said, struggles with mixing a drink. Don't count on quick or friendly service if Sandra is working. After being to some other bars in the area, apparently she's well known. Either ask for a different bartender or go somewhere else. Mike, Camille, Scott, the chefs and the bar backs, all incredible. The food there is actually stellar because he (Mitchell) cares about his plates. The food here is seriously underrated. DEFINITELY best food on the mountain if you get Mitchell as your chef. The pool tables (and the etiquette around them) and everyone's very respectful about them, even though there's only 2. Every Saturday night they have an amazing live DJ and every other night they have a jukebox that can play whatever you like. They have some stand up arcade games and a pinball machine that are pretty fun. All in all the staff and atmosphere is awesome, just be wary of a few things. read more

The management and staff have made it crystal clear that they do not appreciate or want my business at the Dogwood Tavern. They've consistently demonstrated their complete ignorance of what customer service means. Every time I go to DT I feel like I'm invisible. I regularly have to go to the bar to order drinks and food, only to stand there for 5 or 10 minutes while the server ignores me. It's to bad, Blue Jay really needs a place to hang out since the LA Sports Bar closed. Unfortunately, this isn't the place. After at least a dozen visits, the DT is now dead to me. The little co-owner (Chad?) acts like he's doing you a favor when he pours you a beer. What a jerk... could be a great place but I'll never go back. read more

It's nice to have a place to hang out in Blue Jay without going to the village and trying to find parking. Unfortunately, since the sports bar closed across the street, they are the only game in town (good for them). Great layout. Nice bar area with lots of areas to sit. I saw that another individual complained about windows in the bar. What the hell?! What's the problem with windows in a bar? Anyway, great selection of beer and cocktails. This is absolutely the best place on the mountain. Carey is the best bartender ever. I was here when Corey B was here and that couple is nuts. They were here for a free drink and walked out on their tab. The guy had a beer and said it didn't taste like beer and the girl had a had a vodka soda and complained it tasted to much like Vodka. Really?? Obviously some scammers. I wouldn't say anything bad about anything about these awesome people. Food is bomb and so is the atmosphere. Come here for a once in a lifetime experience. Came in earlier today after a hike in the surrounding area. The bartender (Camille? sorry, I thought I remembered!) and the gentleman who came out to check on us throughout our meal were so pleasant! Cute, friendly and spacious bar with yummy food and large hangout area! They didn't annoy us with constant presence but they also made sure we were ALWAYS taken care of! Reading thru many of the other negative reviews I felt like I was reliving my experience with a friend visiting from out of town last night. I have been a mountain resident up here since the 90s and shop in Blue Jay pretty regularly. Some months back I noticed that this establishment had opened and made it a point to check it out next time I had a guest in town for the weekend. Last night we walked into Dogwood Tavern and pulled up to the bar. Initially the bartender seemed friendly as we ordered beers. But then a handful of locals came in after us and suddenly it felt like we were completely invisible. - We had to constantly flag down the bartender to refill our drinks - Ordering food (like with the drinks) was a hassle - We asked for cutlery (which never came) - Apparently they had happy hour specials but no menu that lists them - Bartender had no idea what the happy hour specials were (and had to look them up at the computer register) - We ordered a simple burger with onion rings. Burger was nothing special. The rings tasted over cooked to me - While eating our meals we noticed how the locals next to us received utensils with their meals (so again, better treatment for different folks who came in after us) All this aside, we might have given this place more of a chance and stayed longer (spent more money) if we had felt welcome at all in this place. Great spot in Blue Jay! They've recently opened and are working out a few kinks but this has all marks of great things to come! Lots of beer options, on tap and bottles. Looks like a full bar too. Interesting food selections, very diverse. I had the Ahi Tuna appetizer and my husband had the spicy hot wings. Both great. They are now open for Sunday morning football. I've been here over 6 times. I went back because the food was good. Service was hit/miss but at least the food was good. My.visit today is my last. Burgers were dry, meat is cheap old frozen patties NOT worth $15, I could have paid $4 at Burger King and been happier than this. Owner was managing the bar and it's clear he's failing. Apparently this is a pretty new place, they were still in a "soft opening" so not many options for taps... I'm sure that'll change when all of the operating logistics line up. Limited choices up here at our Lake to grab a drink but it is very dog friendly. Minus is the regular bartender is usually very slow and lazy and disinterested in taking drink orders at the bar because she is too busy chatting about personal stuff with a few of the regulars. The place is really nice on the inside with great parking on the outside. Only about 20min drive from when hopping on the 18 freeway. Roads have been upgraded on the way up to this bar. read more
