Stopped in from West LA for a late dinner during this most recent Valentine's Day & President's Day long weekend and it was honestly better than we were expecting. It's located on the ground floor of an Inn of the same name. It has an old timey, alpine look to it which really adds to the ambiance. They have a full bar, as well as booths, tables, and covered patio seating. It's pretty large inside so can host large groups as well. Our server was very sweet and all of our items arrived quickly. They don't have a very large menu, but it does have a lot of great options on it, especially for over 5000 feet above sea level. I chose one of the specials for the night which was the Black Cod. It was honestly great, cooked perfectly, and a fair portion. I enjoyed every part of it and would recommend. I also started off with the French Onion Soup and that too was great, it was a bit saltier than most versions I have back home, but still I liked it. We also ordered the Cobb Salad which was generous in portions, and we both really liked it. I was not a very big fan of the French Fries, that was the only downside of the meal. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for dinner when visiting Lake Arrowhead, especially for anyone looking for a great place for a date. read more

I see quite a few 5 stars/4 some 3, now to start with, I was told about this restaurant from a lady at front desk where I was staying and also made reservations ahead of time before going to Lake Arrowhead since this was going to be for Thanksgiving Dinner ONLY. I had tried another restaurant in the past, but wanted something different. Also, let's face it, around Lake Arrowhead only, there aren't many restaurants to choose from. The rest is all fast food. I was coming from a couple of hours away and obviously wanted to make sure I had a place to have Thanksgiving dinner. Therefore, as far as rating this restaurant for its regular food, I can't do that because I went for Thanksgiving dinner only. My experience as sadly as it is to say was literally the worst I've ever had, not been mean even if it sounds that way, but it is a true statement and it doesn't make me happy to say it, but reality hurts sometimes. We walked in and I can only say, it wasn't what I would normally agree to go to, not terrible but not impressive either. Casual for sure, boots and a cowboy hat if you have it, will do the trick. We were seated right next to the bar, this is NOT a huge place to begin with, so the noise from the bar was not pleasant to begin with. We sat down and a waiter came over, he was nice at first, the menus were not given out because it was strictly Thanksgiving dinner and the copy paper already waiting for you on the table pretty much told you what you were getting. Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey/ham combo or only turkey with all its trimming that you normally eat on Thanksgiving, which it was easy to order obviously, didn't make the waiter sweat either. We told him combo for both of us. I am not kidding when I tell you that not even 5 minutes later, the dishes came to our table. I was still taking my jacket off. I get it that everything had to be ready to go and prepared to make it fast and all, but that immediately turned me off. The food itself aside from being cold, not one thing on that plate was even warm, the presentation was absolutely awful, I still say and believe that had I gone to Dennys, they probably would have done a much better job and not charge $40 dollars a plate and already added 20% tip to it either. The food literally looked nothing like you would expect from a restaurant like this. It wasn't a dump!!! It wasn't attractive to me, but it was a restaurant, nevertheless. That food was simply disgusting. The plate came filled with everything that looked store bought from their not even market but like a 7/11 in the city. Filled with disgusting and totally salty gravy, not homemade of course, and it was which it wasn't, the chef or cook had a lot of fun with the salt or dropped it in it by mistake, that's how salty it was. The mashed potatoes awful, cold, not soft, have no idea what was in it, came in a made round ball, by the way everything on one plate, ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, a tiny bit of greens, wherever those two tiny balls of orange things were, a tiny bit of cranberry in a tiny plastic container, a small piece of bread. All just thrown on this plate that honestly made me sick to even look at it. Been Thanksgiving and all, we waited to eat knowing it was going to be quite a bit of food, so we were hungry. My girlfriend literally couldn't eat it. She had a bit of the turkey while trying to find it underneath all that disgusting gravy and she said that it was the only thing that tasted ok, the ham was just as bad as the rest of the stuff on top of it. She literally had three bites of it, that was it. I had more because I was hungry and there was no other place to go unless we wanted to go to McDonald which after that meal, would have been a much better choice and a lot cheaper. My girlfriend had no dinner basically and I had what I was able to eat, but it was just bad. To top it off, came the pie. Now, my girlfriend loves pumpkin pie, I do as well, she makes the best pie from scratch. Two pumpkin pies came. Again, what on earth were those pies, we still discussing it, how can you go wrong with pumpkin pies, well, this place managed to do so. We even asked them what on earth these pies were and the waiter simply said "it's pumpkin pie", no it's not we clearly said back, but he just kept saying it was and that was it. We both couldn't eat it and left it. No one ever came around through our dinner to ask if everything was ok, no one asked us if we needed more to drink, nothing. $115 dollars. The tip was already included as I mentioned that it clearly said on the menu at the end of it that 20% was going to be included. This dinner was worth and only if you were totally desperate, $10 dollars a plate MAX. The waiter did not deserve his tip as he did nothing for it, the only time we saw him was of course to bring us the check. Worst experience ever, never again at this place, I don't even think I would take a chance on their regular menu after this. read more

Ma'am... the man crafted an Old Fashioned like the instructions were written in hieroglyphics, and he just went with his heart, which tasted like he strained it through a drywall sponge. He was out there performing mixology like it was community service. If he's "one of the best you've ever witnessed," you need to get out more. Like, anywhere. Even a gas station cocktail machine would broaden your horizons. But the pièce de résistance: "AAAA++ service." Not a rating, just the sound someone makes when they step on a Lego. We recently went to Lake Arrowhead for a quick weekend getaway and stayed close to the Lake Arrowhead Village. The Village has some dining options, but many of the dining options are fast-casual. We found Saddleback Grill on Yelp and was very closeby to Lake Arrowhead Village! Luckily we ate dinner pretty early around 5:30pm so there was still large table available for our family in their outside patio. Although there is the problem with flies and bees that will hover around your food if you eat outside, we managed to swat them away throughout dinner. The waitress was very friendly and their menu was pretty extensive! They had fish entrees, meat entrees, pasta entrees, and kids menu. My kids loved the french onion soup and I thought it was very tasty as well. I would definitely come back here again to have a good meal when staying in Lake Arrowhead. Will probably try to make reservations so at last we can sit inside instead. read more

Decided to try the restaurant as a Birthday/Mothers Day celebration with our two adult children. Saw the 5 star reviews and felt confident. Ordered drinks and the waitress asked if we were ready to order. We were. Calamari and Lobster. She asked if we knew our entrées and we said yes. Short rib raviolis. Roasted duck, Angel pasta with crispy duck and carbonara. We also ordered dinner salads ( later to find out each dinner salad was 14 dollars.) In about three minutes the salads came out. Seven minutes later the appetizers. Shells in the lobster enough to break a tooth on. Plates were stacking up on the table. They brought food without taking the used plates. Five minutes later came the worst part. The entrees. My wife's roasted duck was in a deep dish plate. Any attempt to cut the duck went to the center of the plate mixing the plum sauce with everything. My daughter said it looked like a caveman dinner. My daughter's ravioli was like wonton soup. The raviolis were swimming in a cream and dark sauce when mixed together looked terrible. No taste of short rib at all. My son's pasta with crispy duck looked inviting until you tried to eat the pasta that had been turned to mush it was so overdone. My son twirled his fork in demonstration and came up with quarter inch pieces of pasta. Now for my carbonara. It said bacon and peas. When I said my son's dish was ten minutes overdone, they cooked my pasta for another ten minutes. It was like eating a version of risotto. And when we compared my son's cream sauce to mine it was exactly the same. As if diners aren't going to notice the difference from a carbonara to a heavy cream sauce. And to top it off, NO bacon to be found. Just carrots, and lots of them. Four hundred dollars later for four we had one of the worst dining experiences in a long time. From stacked up plates on our table to overdone pasta to the caveman presentation, it couldn't get any worse. But it did. When we were leaving we passed a couple with their two kids and the man was firmly telling the waitress in a stern tone why did you bring all the food at once. We wanted to enjoy our appetizers first and you brought it all at once. This is unacceptable. The waitress response was "sorry sir, I just put in the tickets and don't control how the food comes out." I left knowing I was not alone. read more

It's nestled right before the village and a perfect spot to get to know locals, be treated with kindness with the small town vibe and get warm with their incredible chicken pot pie. We tried Diane's and had a great time. The food was really good and even though it was a little pricey, it definitely was worth it. My husband got the steak and it was huge! His mashed potatoes were heavenly too. I got the pasta primavera with chicken (can't recall the exact name) and wow I was blown. Diane's doesn't list itself as Italian but they acted like they were with that pasta. It was probably one of the best pastas with clean ingredients, I have ever had! I highly recommend. The place was super busy so I recommend making reservations. The service did their best despite the hecticness. They were working really hard. I love the vibe as well. I can't believe we have never ventured in here since my family's cabin purchase twenty some years ago! The location is directly off of highway 173, just before the mouth of the village. There are two parking lots, each having a separate entrance into the restaurant. We didn't know at the time and parked possibly where the hotel guests are supposed to park and came in through the bar area. There are plenty of places to sit outside, as well as inside. The menu has many options as well. We had just split something a little earlier so primarily came for drinks and music. The happy hour has a nice selection of food and drink. A huge plus, the drinks are not watered down. We enjoyed listening to Dale sing his rendition of many artists, including Coldplay, Billy Joel, and Van Morrison. In between sets, they also play a nice selection of music. We have talked many times coming here to eat, but ended up elsewhere. So we thought, since we are here let's try some food. We opted for the chicken pot pie on happy hour. Let me tell you, it was homemade and rich and made me feel warmly loved. How wonderful it would be on a cold day. No regrets, other than the fact I was still too full from earlier. At least I know the food is good and will return for more. Thus is really a local hangout. As the evening approached, it really filled up and I could see the servers welcoming returning guests/friends/neighbors. I will return! read more

So we just came back from our anniversary trip in the San Bernardino Mountains. We stoped at Diane's for our anniversary dinner and it was amazing !!! The staff was so attentive at one time we had like 2 waiters checking on us. We had an amazing dinner from our starters with the French onion soup, the the main course with that pork chop!! My boyfriend took me to Lake Arrowhead for my birthday weekend, and we tried Diane's Saddleback Grill since it had so many good reviews. We didn't order the steak, which seems to be their signature dish, but instead had the special and the pork ribs. The pork ribs were a generous portion and tasty, but not quite on the level of the rave reviews (I'm from Texas, so I know really great BBQ). The clam chowder was the standout -- truly delicious -- and the mashed potatoes were very good as well. The special's sauce was excellent, but I wish they had paired it with the mashed potatoes instead of me having to do that myself. The coleslaw, however, fell flat, and unfortunately my partner didn't enjoy his dish at all. Overall, the food felt overpriced for what it was. That said, the service was outstanding. The entire staff -- from our server to the bussers -- was warm, attentive, and welcoming. Honestly, the staff is the best part of the restaurant and what made the experience enjoyable despite the food being hit-or-miss. If you're in Lake Arrowhead, this is a "try it once" type of dinner spot. But in general, dining in the area feels touristy and overpriced compared to what I'm used to in Los Angeles, where great food is easier to come by. If you're staying in a cabin or Airbnb, I'd actually recommend cooking some meals yourself. Still, Diane's was a fun experience for one evening, thanks to the excellent team working there. read more

The server and her light German accent were great - friendly, perfect amount of attention, quick service. She was legit great. Wife got a mocktail and it was super tasty. I got an old fashioned (they called it something like a smoking bulliet) and it was massive and pretty standard. Wife got fish, I got a ribeye and we split a spinach salad. It was all really good. I think I went in with low expectations because we're in a touristy place and it was a Monday night, but that was a tasty perfectly cooked ribeye and a really pleasant dining experience. Diane's came recommended by the host of an AirBNB we were staying at near the village, it was our anniversary and decided to dine somewhere nice. Reservations were advised. Located walking distance from the village we encountered on one side of the building what appeared to be the main entrance, a very busy parking lot shared with the lodge there, and on the other side was an empty parking lot with stairs leading up to what appeared to be the rear entrance of the restaurant; we chose the front, more obvious entrance. We arrived at around 6pm and were greeted by some very nice people willing to accommodate our desire to eat. I went online previously that day to make a reservation on their website, letting them know it was our anniversary as well, but it didn't seem to matter, they acted as tho they weren't aware of the booking site. It wasn't a problem, however, there were plenty of seats at the time. My wife was in the mood to celebrate so ordered a mixed drink while I opted for a cold, semi-local IPA. The server was nice and knowledgable of the menu both for drinks and food. It was a Tuesday night and the special of the day was Fish n Chips. I went with the special. My wife ordered the petite filet. The filet was excellent, I was able to sneak a bite to confirm her cries of satisfaction that the steak was absolutely delicious. Paired with greens and garlic mash, it was a good choice. Mine, on the other hand, was not so good. The fish was three or four good chunks of Atlantic or Pacific cod, but cod nonetheless, identifiable by the flaky, white, meaty fish. Served over a bed a french fries and choice of side; I chose the coleslaw. Where it went wrong for me was with the fish and specifically in the batter; soggy crust, forgettable flavor, nothing to get excited about. The fish itself was slightly undercooked and barely warm in the middle. Unfortunately I regretted my choice, but not enough to spoil our outing. We really enjoyed our experience there and will likely return to try other menu items for sure. Lastly, the dessert and clearly the highlight of at least my meal. We opted for the bread pudding with some sort of vanilla brandy sauce. It was absolutely amazing! It was happy hour (4-6pm). We arrived at 5:02 and waited until 5:17 to even get acknowledged. We finally ordered happy hour food and drinks. We got 2 out of 3 dishes we ordered (unfortunately the one we didn't get was mine). We waited and waited for our waiter to come back to give us new drinks - never happened. Well after happy hour was over, he came back. We told him I never received my food but at that point, I was no longer interested. We couldn't order more drinks because happy hour was long gone so we just paid and left. The food was good but overpriced even for normal California restaurants. Bruschetta was normally $19 for 4 small pieces - nothing spectacular. Happy hour prices were cheaper but still not even close to being worth it. We're fine with paying for higher end meals. Nothing new. This just is way beyond reasonable for what we received. It seems like a good place but just way overpriced. The happy hour drinks were reasonable though and they were made well. They definitely need extra staffing in the bar on the weekends. This is one of those places that could really do better and be amazing. The financial potential and the atmosphere is there. We were told that the ribeye was the "greatest steak on the mountain." It probably would have been, if it were cooked right. Unfortunately, the chef tonight was Hephaestus, the Greek god of fire, volcanoes, blacksmithing, and forges. I ordered my ribeye "medium," but when I cut into it, it looked as if it was scorched by the fire of a thousand suns. That said, Hephaestus also forged the steak knife with +99 durability, so at least I was able to cut into it. All jokes aside, the staff were great and everything besides the steak were fine. read more

If you want to go to a "fancy" dinner in Lake Arrowhead then Diane's Saddleback Grill is a a great choice. You should make a reservation unless you don't mind waiting. You can make a reservation on Open Table or call the restaurant directly. They have a wide variety of menu options of all proteins (chicken, fish, steak, lobster, calamari steak, pork, vegetarian). Most dishes come with a side of veggies, pasta or rice pilaf. All three sides were really good. Our favorite appetizer is the lobster escargot. It comes with bread you can dip in the yummy sauce. Favorite main courses are the lobster macaroni and cheese, both fish dishes (salmon and sole) and the chicken piccata. The specialty drinks are $14 each. The Paloma and Bullet Rye Manhattan were just ok but we wouldn't order a second. For dessert the Argentine Sea Salt and Caramel Gelato was delicious. It tasted like a creamy chocolate ice cream filled with chocolate caramel salted candy bar chunks. The ambiance is an upscale lodge slightly dimly lit or you can sit in the patio or high top area. Service was super friendly and helpful. Parking is free and easy on both sides of the building. read more

The restaurant was fine since there aren't a lot of dining options at night in Lake Arrowhead. The appetizers were around $18 each, but were definitely freezer to fryer variety. I had the special, $28, for filet pot pie and a cup of French onion soup or salad. Soup had a decent flavor, lots of croutons and melted cheese. Unfortunately the pot pie was very salty and the vegetables were overcooked and a soggy mess. The filet was tender and a decent amount. The pie was basically a bowl of pot roast with puff pastry topper. My friend's rib eye was a decent size, but came out lukewarm. Service was friendly, but seemed shortstaffed. There is a small parking lot in front which is fine in the winter, but problematic in the summer. Diane's is inside the Saddleback Inn. The interior was old-school pub look and booths were comfortable if you can get one. read more

After a long day of walking around and touring Lake Arrowhead, my wife and I made it here. Dinner was amazing. I order the Calamari, Roasted Duck and wife ordered the Lamb. Gotta say the lamb was good combined with the mashed potatoes. Duck was soft and delicious. I also ordered the mule with tequila. Place has this old century vibe and the ceilings/walls with a detailed design. I see others reviews about price and service, if you don't have money in this day and age don't travel. Came back starving , everywhere was booked so we decided to go try and sit at the bar. We eventually got sat after a drink and were able to order. We went to Saddleback Grill on Sept 22 during our Lake Arrowhead vacation and absolutely loved everything about this place! The food was fantastic and the service was efficient, friendly, and welcoming. Our waitress, Yasmine, was wonderful. She recommended mocktails for our kids, was attentive throughout the evening, and made us feel at home. We started with the calamari appetizer, which was fresh and delicious. For mains, I had the duck (amazing!) and my husband had the filet mignon, perfectly cooked. Our kid ordered the chicken fingers, which came in a generous portion. This restaurant came highly recommended by our captain during the Lake Arrowhead boat ride. When we asked him where he'd choose to eat locally, he confidently told us this was the best spot in town--and he was absolutely right! We were lucky to snag a table for our party of 6.5 (our little toddler included). The menu was diverse, with something for everyone. We were celebrating my husband's 40th birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make it memorable. Second time here and left saying we will not be back. Just our luck and had the same server as before, back then we gave him the benefit of the doubt but no excuses this time, it was 5:15pm with only a few people in the restaurant. It began by watching our server Roger socialized for a good 10 minutes before he realized he didn't send our drink order to the bar. Then watched him try to crack, who I am assuming is the manager Andrew's back by picking him up in front of guests. Finally takes our order but not 100% paying attention....Ribs came out cold with no flavor, reordered the filet med rare without sauce, Roger took two steps and had to ask the temp again. Filet came out overcooked and smothered in two different sauces???? No Roger in sight for another 10 minutes, and at this point we just wanted to go, he finally drops the check but doesn't come back to process it. Thank you to the nice lady who did! Roger sees us walking out but doesn't bother to say anything, no thank you or goodbye. read more

Great happy drinks. Bartender was so friendly. Bar area by fireplace is cozy. Stayed for dinner and it was excellent too. The schnitzel was as advertised - very good. I would stick with that. read more

Came back for the fish and chips special, but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. One of us add fish and chips combo which includes two fish and three shrimp with fries. The other dish is pasta carbonara. Huge portion so ate half of it and took the other half home. I had an absolutely fantastic time at this restaurant. My husband and I both decided to order the Ribeye Steak, and it was so flavorful and juicy. Just delicious!!! The servers were incredibly friendly and accommodating, which added to the overall enjoyment of our visit. The ambiance was also noteworthy, as it exuded a distinct historic charm that enhanced the dining experience. I would not classify it as fine dining, but the restaurant had a historic upscale rustic appeal that I found quite appealing. The dessert was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening (for me). I LOVED the bread pudding. I had never had that before. In fact, the dessert was so good that I told my husband we have to come back just to have this dessert again. All in all, our dinner experience at this restaurant was thoroughly enjoyable, leaving me with a strong desire to revisit in the future. read more
