She cut my hair short and then tried to use a hairdryer and comb to make it look like the pictures, but it did not work. I showed her the reference photos again and asked if she could get help from someone else. She asked a colleague, who showed her how to cut the style, but she still seemed unsure how to do it. Eventually, the owner had to step in and finish the haircut for me. For a long-hair haircut that cost about $100 total ($85 for the haircut plus a $15 tip), I was very disappointed with the experience. At this price point, I expected the stylist to be able to achieve the hairstyle she had confirmed she could do, or to be upfront from the beginning if it was outside her expertise. Unfortunately, based on my experience, it was not worth the price or time.

I tried this place just because it's a couple bucks cheaper than the other nearby nail places AND ohh do I regret skimping on a few measly dollars. Hence ... I found me a new wonderful nail place worth every $1 (check out my review for tiptoes nail spa). Ok back to my review, it was a lazy weekday afternoon and I decided to walk in for a mani/pedi. I waited at the front desk for a good 7 minutes. I know someone saw me but didn't make an effort to say anything. Finally, the receptionist came, didn't apologize for the wait, no explanation just told me to go sit. Well, to make a long story short - my mani was not very good. My nails were not filed evenly and cuticles were still needing attention. Maybe she was new because the polish was also uneven and bubbly. My pedi was quite awful. She cut me and didn't even apologize. She just kept going as if she didn't do anything ... no sorry - nothing. She casually tried to stop the bleeding. Like I wouldn't notice?!?! Then she quickly scrubbed my soles ... it was over before I knew it. But i guess it's a good thing because I did not enjoy it at all. I couldn't relax. I was out of there in 30 minutes. Never am I going back. I'd rather take my money else where even if it's a few dollars more so I can relax and enjoy myself. Not have to sit there stiff as a log ... flinching everytime my cuticles were being cut or soles getting scrubbed. No Thanks. read more

Although I hesitate to share the new location b/c I am afraid once it's discovered I'll have to book my appointment weeks in advance. BUT... I want to give love to Dolci. Only if they opened up before I moved to Los Angeles I would have gone twice a week! That's how relaxing the service is! This is hands down better than the other nail salon up the hill ("mani pedi"). Dolci is salon is EXTREMELY DELIGHTFUL in many aspects than the other nail-salon up the hill called "mani pedi". Their menu pricing is inexpensive/competitive (services such as waxing, facial & mani-pedi). This boutique salon is clean, friendly, warm & inviting yet professional. Also, they do not pressure the customers for an up-sell/add-on service. Dolci is a top notch salon that would be extremely successful in Los Angeles or NYC neighborhood. (Trust me I am metropolis woman!) They've expanded to Potrero Hill (next to Goat Hill) so maybe they'll sweep the nation after that :) That's how good they are!!! My recent visit there was pleasant and the music was very soothing. Dolci appears to be under new management, so hopefully their services will excel from what they already offer ( I think they have waxing too, maybe I'll try it out the next time I visit). The pricing for my manicure and pedi was very reasonable as always (and not to mention a nice cup of green tea that went along with the magazine I read). Overall, my experience there was great and the lady that serviced me was very patient. The store's environment feels peaceful, quiet, and spacious, and the staffs were really attentive to my needs. One thing I do suggest is calling in before hand, because the store does get busy at times. My pedicure is still intact which is a plus. Can't wait to come back for a new color. read more

The pricing is right in the middle, neither the most expensive nor the cheapest. It is quite clean and with just 8 chairs and typically only 2-3 staff members, it's intimate and never feels rushed unless they are fully booked with a line out the door. I haven't seen that in many years and there is cute little bench in front of the salon and great coffee & boba near so even when you have to wait a minute, there is a comfortable and entertaining spot to do so - that particular part of 22nd street is great people watching! I usually call a friend I haven't seen in a bit & have them meet me there and they are lovely about us chatting quietly - and asking us every now and then if we would like some tea, or water. If you go in with reasonable expectations, you'll have a lovely experience. Modern Nail is the ideal neighborhood spot. I'm so grateful it is part of our wonderful Dogpatch!

During the wax, it was more painful than I expected, but I didn't think much of it since waxing can be uncomfortable and I trusted that I was in good hands. After she finished shaping my brows with tweezers, they were still stinging quite a bit. When we were done, she had me meet her at the front to pay. I wasn't offered a mirror to check my eyebrows, which wasn't a huge concern because I trusted her work. However, after I left, my eyebrows were still burning, so I used my phone camera to take a look. I noticed that the skin had been lifted on both eyebrows. As soon as I got home, I cleaned the area and applied ointment. I understand that accidents can happen during waxing, and I'm not upset that it happened. What disappointed me most was that I wasn't told my skin had lifted. I would have appreciated the honesty and some aftercare instructions so I knew how to properly care for the area. I hope this feedback is taken as constructive. Better communication in situations like this would go a long way and would have made my experience much more positive.

The 10 minutes of massage for both were so nice, especially the shoulders and upper back that came with the manicure. But during the gel remove, the gel on my fingers was removed with the drill. It was the same on my toes but I don't have an issue there. Normally I wouldn't mind, but my natural fingernails were drilled down so thin that even though I cut my nails short, they're ripping at the ends with normal daily wear and tear. I went on Saturday morning and I've had two nails rip at the ends already and it is only Tuesday morning. I'm not sure if it was because I came in with long nails already (imagine asking for a medium-long set) and they may have been mistaken for gel-x or something of the sort, but it was just my natural nails with gel on top. I can even feel on all of my fingernails just how thin they were drilled down because suddenly all my nails are very flimsy, even with several gel coats on top. The rest of the service and experience were great, so it's a bit disappointing to feel like I regret how much I paid because of how weak my fingernails became after this appointment. Regardless I would still return in the future if I want the pampering experience, but if I can do without the massage and just need my nails done I may choose another salon instead. Just something to note if you're someone who is worried about your nail strength. UPDATE 8/4 9:48PM: Another nail ripped pretty far down just from scratching my head :-(
