    Tiger nails! Rawr!
    Margaret I.

The ladies at Gelous really used their down time, due to covid, to update the salon. New, super comfy massage chairs, lovely new blue paint, and more colors than ever. I visit about every 10 days to 2 weeks for gel manicures. Lana is awesome and always comes up with a funky design for me. No matter who does my nails I always feel pampered and well taken care of. There's a reason I've been going here for years. I typically go during the week before 3pm - I have a flexible schedule and know they can get busy. I've never had to wait, and I'm usually the only person there. It's the most relaxing experience.

I only trust my manicurists back home, but since I moved to San Francisco a few months ago, it was time to find a new nail spot. The ladies were very welcoming while I got a pedicure. It was nice and my manicurist was sweet. Would definitely come back and recommend this place!

I've been coming here for years. The workers are super nice and do a great job. It's not a fancy place but the salon is always clean, the massage chairs are awesome, and the prices are reasonable. They have a full selection of OPI and Essie colors.

Enjoying the afternoon in good company with great service!

We made an appointment for 3 ladies to get mani Pedis, which is quite the request on short notice. They were able to accommodate our request with minimal wait time. The salon has 5 massage chairs that are fabulous and 3 wonderful technicians, They were bright and cheerful. Leg massages and basic foot scrub included. They removed old polish no problem and were very gentle- she didn't even mind my wiggle or twitch from being ticklish! Great polish selection both gel and regular polish. Prices were very reasonable and mani/pedi combos were too reasonable to get just one. Pros: Price, Atmosphere and Quality Cons: Small wait Overall: I will be back!

Very nice manicure! CND vinylux weekly nail polish is no extra charge!!

$32 for a traditional mani-pedi, but they don't charge for extra CND Weekly Polish (other places I've been charge an extra $5 - which is crazy because you can buy a bottle for $6 on Amazon). That nail polish brand is great, much longer lasting than traditional nail polish - I have even purchased a bunch for myself at home. Cindy did my pedicure and Lana did my manicure. I was in and out in 52 minutes. My nails and toes looked great afterwards. The best part was the massage - Lana was an excellent masseuse and I got a 10 or 15 minute excellent head, neck, and back massage while my nails were drying. It was wonderful and totally unexpected! It's a very clean place. They wrap the pedicure bowls in a plastic liner that is changed for every guest. They have one-time-use-only nail files and buffers. It definitely seems like they care about keeping things immaculately clean. It's a small place, but I called ahead and was able to get an appointment when I wanted it. TIP in CASH ONLY.

I was in Noe Valley and needed a mani pedi so I looked for suggested nail salons on Yelp. Yelp didn't lead me astray with Gelous Nails. You'll find it down a cute brick walkway set back a bit between two buildings. It was a sunny day so they left the door open and it was very pleasant, especially since I was in the chair next to the door (a prime spot) and the sun shone in (not too sunny, just cheerful). I got a regular mani pedi ($32 combo). I've been trying a lot of nail salons in different SF neighborhoods and I think this is now my favorite, for the price, customer service, and quality. I chose a red vinylux Polish and I think it turned out great. Two people worked on my nails at once. The massage chairs are probably the best I've experienced. They are new and the automatic massage is actually really nice, not the typical jolting type. There's an "airbag" on the seat that massages your bottom and there is a leg massage. While my nails were drying, the lady that did my manicure gave me an unexpected head and shoulder massage for almost 5 minutes and it was very relaxing and pleasant. My nails dried properly and despite many smudging opportunities and encounters later in the day, they stayed pristine!

    Cindy's AMAZING!

I must say that this place has a total gem working for them! CINDY has been doing my nails for 14 years and her work is outstanding!!! She REALLY takes pride in her work and it shows. She's very thorough. I'm the type where if there is something on my nail (like a bubble from nail polish or something) I'll play with it til I mess it up ... so she triple checks EVERYTHING cuz she knows I have bad habits lol This place is CLEAN and the massage chair was great, it put me to sleep and I didn't wake up till she was almost done with my pedicure. Her coworkers are nice and welcoming... this may have been my 1st visit ... but I know I will have many more ... can't wait!

Price up to $20 for regular manicure. Now they are no longer the cheapest, but on par with most.

First impressions was the location is nice, very local and the staff are all so friendly and accommodating. Very professional attitudes and attire along with great customer service. Their place just got renovated and it looks fancy and stunning. Every time I have went in for my nails they took great care of me and made sure I got what I wanted. I always look for Brittney and Sammi, they know how to shape and design my nails with ease and precision, it shows how much care they put into making their customers happy! Been back here about 3 times now and also brought my friend for a pedicure date. Definitely would recommend to check them out if you're in the area!

When I got home, I realized the polish was completely uneven and see-through as that he only did two coats. Throughout the process, I was nicked with the electric filing razor that he was using. He did not apologize nor did he thanked me for my generous tip of $15 for a subpar job. I requested a refund and they hung up on me even after I sent photos and video. I am so disappointed I'm going to have to have my nails completely redone wasting more money. Sloppy and unfriendly service. Avoid. Oh and I requested GEL X and they didn't tell me that they were doing hard gel which is completely different and this ruined my set. I only know because it took so long and he spent 45 minutes putting on a clear something he didn't even tell me about. What a frustrating experience.

The quality of ingredients, time spent, lack of even a slight massage, and general feel of the spa doesn't warrant such a high price tag. That's the issue, if the prices were akin to what other spas charge, I'd rate this higher, but at $70 it's really hard to say this place is 5* quality. My feet are drier than when I went in, I think it's because she didn't put lotion on after the scrub? However, there are limited options in Potetro, and they're always booked out, so it's working for them!

I can tell it's well loved by the surrounding community because there were so many people who walked in and knew the staff by their first name. I walked here from the bus stop off Rhode Island and 16th. It was a short and pleasant 10min walk from where I started. It was flat until I passed by a Whole Foods when the journey was all uphill. Short of breath, I made it to the top of the hill and to my destination *phew. It was a nice quad and glute workout for sure. I was greeted by a friendly staff and led to a wall of nail polish (sometimes the choices are overwhelming). I chose a bright pink and sparkly OPI nail polish. It felt summery. I ended up feeling tense as I sat and eased my feet into warm water. Annie, my nail artist, told me to relax but my body wanted to do the opposite. I think I get tense when my toenails are being cut as if to anticipate pain, but when I felt comfortable with her technique, I started to relax. It was probably the most relaxed I've been all week. Annie was sweet and attentive. She also did a really good job removing my cuticles and massaging my calves. I needed it! It was a great way to end a stressful day at work. I would love to come back!

Each nail was a little different, and he spent a lot of time making sure each design was up to my standard. We chose the colors together before, and he tried to change the original just a little bit to work with the materials they already had. This one set included cat eye, blooming gel, chrome, sculpting gel, and more. He spent a lot of time on filing, shaping, etc so I could tell he was being really detail oriented. He assured me the outcome would be about 80% similar to the picture, since they wouldn't have the exact colors. The final price ended up being $135 plus tip, and I got an appointment the same day I called. It's very busy so make sure you get an appointment! The technician clipped my cuticle too far, causing bleeding, and was very rough throughout the service -- especially while removing the builder gel and filing my nails. She also skipped steps that Andrew had previously done, which affected the overall quality. I clearly asked for a gel builder fill and to keep my length, but she began filing my nails down anyway. I had to repeat myself multiple times and eventually had to switch to Gel-X just to regain the length that was removed. There also seemed to be a language barrier. However, instead of asking a coworker for clarification, she continued with what she thought I said rather than confirming my request. I ultimately had to stop and ask another staff member walking by to help translate. Additionally, pricing was not transparent. The service is listed online as $70 for a gel builder fill, but I was charged $85. When I asked about it, I was told I had already been given a discount, which was confusing and not explained. This technician needs more professionalism and should be spoken to regarding both technique and customer care. Overall, this experience felt rushed and careless, which was very disappointing given how great my first visit was.

At times, I felt awkward trying to figure out what was possible on my own while the technician simply watched instead of assisting me. At my last visit, the Gel-X application felt especially rushed. There was excess glue left around my nails which looked messy and unprofessional. While the final design was nice, it ultimately was not what I had originally asked for. When I expressed disappointment prior to leaving, the technician later explained there had been a language barrier. However, this was never communicated during the time of service. Instead, I was repeatedly told "no" to the options I asked about. Afterward, I reviewed the salon's website and realized they actually did offer the exact style I wanted. What made me especially uncomfortable, though, was that the technician put their hands in my hair without asking first. That completely crossed a personal boundary and felt very disrespectful.
