This is the worst Dollar General I have ever been to! There were no grocery carts, absolutely none, and when I asked, the cashier said that they were being used and after walking throughout the store, I could see every single person with their arms full of groceries and I also witnessed grocery carts, overflowing with go backs that nobody could put away. I am a handicap person, so there was absolutely no way I could shop at the store and I will never return very sad because Monterey does not have a Dollar General and my mom and I enjoy shopping at Dollar General's in Modesto, California, and Ceres, California, but we will never return to Salina's for the Dollar General. read more

I swore wouldn't step foot in another Dollar General after my experience in Susanville. But I was trying to kill some time as my husband was next door at Harbor Freight and wouldn't come out. So this store is a little messy and they need improvement on their customer service. Some of them act like they just have to be there. Not the friendlyest people either. Your pretty much on your own to find anything. They do have clothing here unlike other dollar stores but they are pricey and no real bargains here. But they do mark them down to clearance occasionally. There are very few items that are only a dollar and I can get alot of their items elsewhere for much less. I shop Saturday mornings and I took a Bogo coupon for dove body wash basically buy 1 get one free it was just 1 MFC and 2 MFC of 75cent deodorant, I read the coupon carefully before going in to the store. As I check out the lady says the BOGO MFC didn't go threw the system it was a lie she didn't scan it she just decided not to even bother. Why because she didn't want to enter it manually and I think it's unfair that managers decide to make there own rules. I told her it was fine to take out those two products, didn't complain nothing just left I decided to go to Walgreens to buy it there and worked perfect. I'm a manager myself at a different store I know how systems work. But it's sad that other managers at other stores don't want to do there job. read more

I've been coming here a few days before work and although I gave it a chance this place is baad. It's a messy store run by staff who act like they are too good to be of any service. Only one girl who reminds me of Rihanna was nice. The other two employees the afro girl and Asian dude act like jerks can't even say hello or even hand me my items after I pay for them. Calling corporate today, had a HORRIBLE experience here. The "supervisor" was so rude, he told me if I didn't like their policy that I didn't have to shop there. He was a short, red headed guy. And he confiscated my coupon, it was a 5 dollar off 5.01 PG coupon that printed off a receipt THEY GAVE ME!!! He said I couldn't use it if I was using Manufacture coupons, doesn't make sense when they get the money back from the manufacture.. and on top of that it says nothing like that on the coupon. Went to the store today ( 03.27.2020 )and i can not believe they allowed a dog to stand on the register. Yes a dog (manager please check the cameras) with all this going on the employee who was in a phone call while working did not say a word. They need to enforce the 6 feet distance because the person who was paying behind me was 1 feet away from me while i was paying. I felt so uncomfortable not going back again!!! read more

Not sure what it is with management at Dollar General but have you noticed that EVERY store tells you their bathrooms are "out of order"? EACH AND EVERY STORE. i made the mistake of stopping in yesterday to pick up a few things but had an urgency to take care of and was denied use of the facilities with the blanket excuse passed down from management. I left my basket and walked out. If you can't allow a paying customer to use your restroom, I'm not spending my money in your store. read more

Since I live in Hollister, I likely won't get to this store very often, but plan to look when I can get to Salinas. I was there today and saw this on the old Goodwill building in the Sherwood plaza. I'd never seen one of these stores and decided to check it out. I agree with the reviewer who said this store is reminiscent of old store chains like TG&Y and Woolworths. I miss seeing stores like that and am glad to see this one. The man working at the store said this is one of the first Dollar General stores to make to the West Coast, as it was originally an East Coast store only. Hope to see more of these stores in the Central Coast area. read more

This store is very dirty. Not just messy but dirty. It has an off smell too. I would never purchase food here much less anything else. I would only give it one star but I'm giving it 2 because the girl at the checkout was very friendly and greeted me when I walked in the door. But seriously that is the only positive. I was really excited that a Dollar general had opened in Salinas, Ca. and so I decided to go shopping this morning around 10am. My experience was horrible! I will never shop here again! When I entered the store I saw 2 workers just standing around talking and didn't even bother to acknowledge me. The store is disorganized, items are not prized and when I asked if they can do a price check they acted like it was such a hard thing to do and wouldn't even say anything to me they just kept on talking so I left my items and left the store without anything. with employees like tommy and Chasity who don't know anything about customer service or how to keep things organized you will loose sales. read more
