This place is so gross. Parking lot is full of trash, homeless people and sketchy things. Bathrooms are so nasty and like half the time don't work. You can barely shop because the aisles are so full of stuff that should be in the back. It's a hazard, really. Managers are constantly in the back talking so negatively about every little thing. They talk so badly about employees and customers and every one can hear them. Most of the cashiers are extremely rude or spend all their time talking to friends or family making the check out line so long and when you get to counter, they act like they're better than you. There used to be a friendly gal but I guess they got rid of her because the vibe in there is awful now. I really wouldn't recommend this branch. Go to grocery outlet or drive to town. Kinda like sucks to give it a star but have to. Hoping it improves but I doubt it. read more

I would like to give no star. This store is starting to make our quaint nice town look bad. It started with the parking lot looking bad. Since its opening it is a!ways dirty. Nondesirebles hanging out after hours leaving their smashed alcoholic beverage bottles and trash on ground. Usually it would just get kicked to the side. The inside of the store has always looked disorganized. I've compared this store to other nearby Dollar Generals, and I have to score them between 8 and 10, but valley Springs is a 3 - 4. Not a good score. For a very long time the self check out register is not working, and when asked about it you get the same response, "I don't know." And when they get a truck delivery it takes many many days to distribute items throughout store. And now the last 2 times I've been in store, they couldn't give me a receipt. When I had a pickup order, they canceled it claiming everything on my list was out of stock. Then I came in person and there was more than enough in stock. I also added some extra things. They charged me twice for a sour cream and twice for these yogurt granola bars :(. The employees are so nice but this sucks :( read more

Milk is definitely cheaper than Mar Val across the street. Prices on other items are OK, but not in the dollar store range. I purchased a metal commuter cup here for $7.50 that is $9.99 at Home Depot in the bay area. Has a LOT of items, so if you need to stock up on kitchen items, for example, they probably have what you need. A new Grocery Outlet store is opening across the street in 11/2019, so there will be competition for food items. The clerks were helpful and not at all surly; one guy spent about 10 minutes trying to find a red mug for me that I had previously purchased there. read more

Living in Valley Springs you will not have a lot of shopping and getting ripped off by MarVal prices. So was excited to get a new store in town. One thing that drives me bonkers is the way the check out is. Not enough room for things and passing things back and forth and just unorganized for the customer. Then your trying to get your money out or use the machine and while your trying to do that then they are handing you your merchandise and just an unorganized situation that makes me crazy each and every time unless you have a couple of items. On an upbeat note I am very happy we have some other choices in VS for shopping and we all know we don't have much....As far as the people who work there I find them very friendly and enjoy our conversations. They are busy with things keeping things stocked for us. read more

People told me this would happen but I didn't believe them the Dollar General moves into the small communities with decent prices for the first month then after that they move into the products with smaller boxes for the same price pretty soon you can't get anything for a dollar anymore you're better off leaving the stores alone if you look at the prices read more

So I went in this morning, went to check out and my boyfriend informed the cashier that we were buying the food items with EBT and paying for the rest with cash, to which the cashier gave us a very disgusted look and an "OK??" Then she proceeded to make a comment about my appearance, "You look like you just woke up". At this point I had to snap back and sarcastically say "Thanks! That's so kind of you!!" This store has so many items and many of them are A LOT cheaper than Mar Val. But not all. The variety of items, from milk and eggs to mops and clothing and diapers...they have a lot of different things! Most of the prices, not all, are cheaper than Mar Val and that other store. However, I give this place only two stars because the customer service is AWFUL. My parents live here in Valley Springs and it's either go to a place that has outrageous prices and bad customer service, or go to a place that has decent prices and bad customer service... Why are there so many places in Valley Springs with bad customer service?? Please look at me and politely say a few words to me while you are completing my transaction... If there is a line of more than three people, please call another checker... If I ask a question, whether it be about prices or a certain item...PLEASE do not give me a bad attitude along with a short response... There are not a lot of choices in Valley Springs as far as shopping, so we will have to return to this store. Not by choice, but by necessity. I would have given this store zero stars but that's not an option. I read all the other reviews and everyone was right. This store has: RUDE employees and managers who make sure you know you are inconveniencing them if you ask for help (or need them to check you out), inconsistent prices (if the items has a price label at all), the store is always a mess and cluttered, and the "clearance" items are outrageously priced. Dollar General should be embarrassed by this branch. There needs to be a complete overhaul done in this store - from management on down. I have never been in a store ANYWHERE that you can hear the managers talking to each other across the store about the customers who just left. Your best bet is to avoid this store all together and go to the Dollar General in Angels Camp where the staff is nice and helpful, the store is clean, and there is almost double the variety. read more

This morning we stopped in at DG to get a few items, toilet paper, paper towels, canned dog food and other miscellaneous items. When we got to the cashier, I brought over a cart (as I always do) for the cashier so they can put our bagged items in the cart, out of the way of their counter. We placed some bags on the counter for the cashier to use. Lawrence, the cashier "tossed" both packages of Angel Sort TP, Napkins & other soft items in the cart, not bagged. We reminded him there were bags for the smaller items. So he starts throwing everything in one bag!! I said, there's more bags in that one, and Lawrence wanted to argue. When he saw me removing the Dryer sheets from a bag of food, he started "stuffing" bags and tossing them into the cart. I was so disappointed with his lack of customer service. We shop there regularly. Typically the folks there are friendly & helpful. I hope the next time we shop at DG, Lawrence has learned customer service, or is no longer there! read more

It would be great if you could build your repore on customer reviews rather than the Manager having to review his Franchise. Overall your place has great hours, lower prices on Clover Valley products which are acceptable. However, general merchandise that are available at other stores are more expensive in your store. However, 75 percent of your items are reasonably priced and the hours are great for campers to purchase forgotten items and overall you will save money on many items for those on a limited income. The only downfall is that there is not a produce department nor meat department nor bakery. If you are looking for soups, breads, crackers, etc you will save but the boxes may be smaller so the lower price comes with a lower quantity. The employees seemed hurried as the doors need to be closed by 10 on the dot so you need to be prepared to come in and shop earlier to meet that exact closure time. Some items not Clover Valley related such as dog treats and bathroom sprays are a savings there. Toiletries are cheaper but smaller rolls such as toilet paper etc that are not named brand will be a savings. Around the Holidays you can pick up some cute items for reasonable prices and they have a small clothing aisle for last minute gifts for children , etc and campers who came unprepared for the weather in this area at the time of year they come up. Overall, I think you will be happy with the overall service. The customer service people in my opinion are hard workers, conscientious, and doing the best they can as it can get quite busy doing the summer months due to Lake Hogan campers and other nearby camping areas. It's unreasonable for the Manager, Tim, to anticipate how many travelers will be visiting Calaveras County. In the winter months prior to the Holidays, things seem to be a little more normal as far as supply and demand and the customer service people are not bombarded with a rush of unpredicted shoppers. "I will give them a five star !!!!!! After for the above reasons .They also have a large assortment of beauty products and when there are sales on name brand products , you will pay comparable rates. They do have have cookies, donuts etc even though there is no bakery or meat department, you can get polish dogs etc and buns and they do carry frozen hamburger and buns etc so campers would love this place!!!!!! read more
