2020 threw yet another curveball our way with a plumbing emergency. Busted pipe right at the main shut off so we were without water in 102 degree weather with two kids home. I had a plumbing nightmare on Sunday night where my hot water supply lines coming into the bathroom faucet got ruptured. Water was spraying all over around 8:30pm. I'm handy around the house, but not plumbing handy. I opened up Yelp and searched for local plumbers who provided emergency 24/7 services and called down the list. Sunday night, nobody answered so I left messages. Dollar was the only one that called me back in about 10-15 minutes and sent Al out to my house about an hour later. Just had the best experience with this company. They were able to quote me their service charge rate before coming out (which most companies would not do). The company was able to come out same day. Came out assessed the job. Turning on faucets, flushing toilets, checking under the house for leaks. and while doing this the drains that were clogged cleared themselves. Had a main sewer drain line problem at my home. Other company came out to run to sewer cam to assess the problem- cracked pipe segment with infiltrating roots, in a drain segment below my front yard lawn. I had several bids for the repair that ran pretty high. After a couple calls, Al who came out to assess the situation. His repair bid was by far the best and he's a nice guy too. Right from the get go I did not feel the "trust". I received a quote for a job to replace 3 valves and 2 hose bibes for $1400 USD and the plumber (AL) immediately gave me $200 USD discount. I also had to pay for their trip to assess the situation ( which I did not mind paying). I walked out into our garage at 8pm on a Friday night, to hear water flying out of the hose on our water heater. I have 2 children and my husband was not home at the time. He told me to call dollar plumbing. They said someone would be here in an hour. I was able to turn off the main before they arrived, so the water damage was minimal. The shutoff valve for our washer needed to be replaced on sort-of an emergency basis. Dollar Plumbing was only one of a dozen or more who I called, who was able to respond on a timely basis; they came the same day and late in the day to do meet our need and do the repair. They did a great job when it turned out to be more complicated than first thought, having to cut into the drywall to replace a poor original installation, and the work was hardly noticeable when they finished. Al, who responded, was very professional. He had to replace the hot & cold copper lines and the original valves that were soldered to it and could not be simply replaced. The new valves are now easily replaceable, the work was professional, and he replaced the drywall so well that we didn't even have to repaint afterwards. Let me first say when it comes to having someone come to my house to fix anything TRUST is a must and within the first 5 minutes I could tell Al is a trustworthy individual that takes great pride in his work. I was in a bind and had a serious clog coming from the washing machine drainage pipe in the garage. I needed someone to come out rite away so I started searching Yelp and found Al at Dollar Plumbing. After reading so many great reviews I felt confident these guys would get the job done at a fair price. Let me say since I know nothing about plumbing I was extremely pleased with their service and had no doubt that Al was a HONEST EXPERT. Read this before using dollar plumbing. using the hose in the front of my house and noticed some water pooled blow it. Realizing this could be a leak I called a couple of plumbers to get some quotes"one showed up immediately. I showed him where the leak was he looked at it. He said it looks like the main from the street I don't work on plumbing like this I called another. Dollar plumbing showed up the Al came took a look at the water pooled in seemed perplexed. I pulled the bushes back For him to access the pipe. He shoved his hand down the side of the pipe and I noticed the flow of the water started to increase. I spent a good 5 to 8 minutes shoving his hand really deep down the side of the pipe. I said this can wait until Thursday because it's not flowing it's just polled. And I also mentioned we're having a dinner party as it was New Year's Eve and didn't want to disrupt the guests who are arriving as he was standing there. He told me he had excavated area to see what he would need to do the repair. I mentioned him at that point once again I do not want the water shut off today. He said he was going to charge me $650 to excavate that area . This to me seemed very expensive but what choice do I have at this point I need it done. He commenced to dig but couldn't get the bushes cleared from around the piping. I loaned him some hedge clippers and a smaller shovel that could get into the tight area around the pipes. It took about an hour to remove all the soil and exposed the damaged pipes. Which are now leaking quite a bit and filling the hole with water and flowing down the driveway. He now says we must fix this now. I was clearly upset as we had a dinner party going on at that moment. He knew I was pisst as now I have to tell everyone we won't have running water. He tells me he is changing me an additional $850 to complete the repairs. Remember I lent him tools and helped him during the digging process. The total time was about 3 hour from start to end. Then he tells me that I have to let it dry overnight? What! I said did you not understand me when I repeatedly told you I cannot have the water turned off. He said several time how he was going to take care of me. Yes you sure did dollar plumbing. Then he said call the city to get the water turned on. I asked are you not coming back to turn the water on and fill the hole? Nope he did not come back and turn on the water or fill the hole and complete the job. He left the front of my home a mess. The next day I called the city and the said he could have and should have turned my water back on. I turned on the water myself and cleaned the mess and filled the hole. I feel I was taken advantage of and over charged a total of $1500.00 for a repair I repeatedly told them was not an emergency. All he replaced was a valve and couplers and reused the original pipe. I called and told the woman I originally spoke with that said they could no do the repair till Thursday how upset I was. She did not care. Seemed I was over charged, he did not care what I told him about the dinner party. He made the issue become critical when it could have waited. *This is an honest review and I was not paid for this review, this was my first time using this company* My wife and I came home to our apartment the other day and found that our sink was backed up and the sink was filled with dirty water. I bought a little sink plumbing kit and put a plastic hair drain clog remover down the drain but didn't get much of anything. I then put a 20" stainless steel drain gripper and didn't get anything. I even tried plunging the sink as well but no success. I finally just took apart the Ptrap and drained the water out of the sink and pipe and noticed the sink drain stopper, the pipe, and ptrap were clean or at least nothing is blocking anything. I also made sure to turn off the hot and cold water from the main valve under the sink, but (1) minute after I took apart the PTrap, scorching hot water came out from the pipe in the walls. I thought the bathroom was going to flood! It was a good thing I had another empty water pan under to catch it and nearly filled that one up without making a mess or spilling any water. Unfortunately, even though I had kitchen gloves on, I managed to burn my hand a bit from the water coming out of the wall pipe, nothing too bad thankfully. I quickly put the pTrap and piping back together before I had a chance to put the longer metal snake down the wall pipe and, more importantly, before more nasty scorching water came spewing out. I had a feeling that someone else's drain or the common drain that's connected to another tenant/s space is clogged and it's backing up our sink. I finally decided to turn the water off, put the pipes back together and just call Dollar Plumbing. I trusted the reviews on Yelp as they had the best reviews and I'm glad I did. Al came over within 30 minutes of calling and came to inspect the situation. He immediately knew what was wrong and knew how to fix it. He was a true professional and very courteous. He showed up and out of respect put shoe covers on to make sure he doesn't track any dirt in or out. I'd like to think I'm pretty handy but It personally took me all night to try and fix my problem and failed, Al showed up within 30 minutes of calling and within 30 minutes of working on my drain he fixed the issue and clean up everything after! He even waived the show up fee and only charged me for the repair. Dollar Plumbing was fast, efficient, professional, knowledgeable, personable, friendly, an honest expert, dependable, calm but prideful, and VERY affordable. He spent a good amount of time listening to me, asking a lot of questions, and educating me on the problem and how he fixed it. After talking with Al and getting to know him I would trust Al in my home if I wasn't even home to fix the issue. Al is a hard worker and a man that isn't afraid to just get the job done no matter what it takes. He isn't afraid to get dirty and he's fast! I called at least 5 other plumbers and Dollar Plumbing had the best reviews, the best pricing, and they even offer a yearly and quarterly maintenance program and will come back at a quarter of the cost just to clean and maintain your drains. Which saves a ton of money because when living in an apartment I've always had to call a plumber at least once a year since apartments share a common drain. When I suspected there was a water leak in a toilet at home, I called at least six plumbers with 5-star reviews in Livermore/Pleasanton/Dublin area, but only Dollar Plumbing responded immediately. Al arrived within an hour as promised, and quickly found the toilet leaking problem. After he fixed the toilet, we asked him to change all faucets and emergency valves for sinks in 2 and half bathrooms. He is extremely flexible. He worked long hours until 10-11pm to complete all works in one day. We are happy with the new faucets and his work. Al is very professional and very polite. This is the second time I have used these guys and once again they are absolutely fantastic! My boys called to tell me that they could not turn off the water in their shower on Saturday morning. I came to look and found that indeed the handle was no longer functioning. I watched a YouTube video on how to fix this and it looked pretty simple - under $50 I thought. But once I started to get the handle screw loose the handle itself would not come off. Rather than bending the pipes and possibly breaking them, I decided to call dollar. On a Saturday morning it took them less than an hour to arrive to my house! Their service is just fantastic. And, they made sure to give me a call to let me know that they were 15 minutes away. When Al arrived, he quoted me a decent price of 375 for fixing the handle. They charge by the job not by the hour. However, once the cartridge was exposed it was obvious we had quite a much larger problem on our hands. There was leaking inside the wall causing black mold to get into the fiberglass. In addition the entire pipe was calcified very very thickly and there was no possible way that the cartridge assembly was going to be coming out. The only solution was to completely replace the pipes and the fixture. I am single with five kids and certainly didn't have a lot of money to spend on this kind of repair. That is why I absolutely love dollar plumbing! They were completely willing to work within my budget and found a solution to replace the pipes and the fixture so that I could afford it. I have worked with other plumbers locally in Livermore and I can tell you as a fact they would not have done this, and their prices would have been at least double what dollar charged.
