Lovely patio! We took a baby in a stroller out there and the staff was so sweet to us, brought us our food and drinks (normally it seems it's more of a counter pick up for drinks). I thought the food was great! A little overpriced for the portion size but I was happy with the quality and the ambience. Music is really loud inside, so if you crave a quieter space I'd move back to the rear seating area. Would come again! read more

Ok. Could easily be better. 1st and foremost- portions are skimpy. For the cost you would think they are organic food items but they are not. Especially with this high cost since the fact you are ordering at a counter without waiter service (dropping off food and flagging someone down to wipe off the table - really worth demanding the gratuity when first paying? -a screen pops up "what percent would you like to add?" at the register when paying??- for what???I will tip, but those percentages are for full service dining, not counter. You haven't done anything yet?!!!??) Small portions/ meh selections Skimpy pancakes. Side of Biscuits (only came with 1 for $3) Either make it a full service diner or just sell donuts and coffee. This place opened a few weeks ago and it's become a twice-weekly (at least) go-to. The doughnuts are great and we love the lunch and dinner options. The pork sloppy joes are a special favorite. If it set out to be a nice, neighborhood spot staffed by nice people: mission accomplished. read more

Dollop Diner does not disappoint. We've enjoyed the other Dollop cafes in other neighborhoods of Chicago and we're excited to see their first ever Diner open in our own 'hood! We tried the breakfast sandwich, an old fashioned donut, drip coffee and the Nutella latte. My latte had coffee art I've only ever seen on Pinterest (the barista made a teddy bear). We will be back to try their lunch dishes! I only wish they'd expand their menu and carry Bang Bang pies and other danishes like their downtown locations! read more

This place is great. I love Dollop, so I was really excited when I heard this was opening mere blocks from my apartment! The employees were extremely nice, and helped me in my decisions. I had heard another customer tell them the slaw was the best he had ever had, so I was really curious. They gave me a little sample and I was hooked! I'll be the first to say that I hate coleslaw. This, however... YUM. I got the egg and cheese sandwich on a seriously delicious bun (sans meat, as I'm a vegetarian) and some potatoes. I ordered a turkey club sandwich, with slaw, and soup (which I though was a simple order). They gave me a BLT, no slaw, and soup. I notified the manager (Johnny) and he apologized, and gave me a new sandwich on the house. I thought this was great. When I left I went to go shake his hand to show my gratitude, he looked at my hand with disgust, and says "No thank you," then walks away. I thought this was the pinnacle of disrespect. I am giving one star for the service, the simple breakfast of eggs and sausage were a four for quality and a three for price ($14.41). So, the service. I visited on a Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 pm. There were two patrons in the rear of the restaurant and one patron sitting at the coffee bar. Long story less long, I was seated at a table but had to ask the barista to take my order as my waitress never returned. Someone else brought my food but never checked back in on me. I asked the barista for the check and the waitress appeared -- I gave her a $20.00 immediately because I was in a hurry (it was now 1:35 pm). After 8 minutes (still no additional patrons in sight) she returned with my change and walked away to chat with the barista. I was given five $1.00 bills. I called across to the waitress stating that I was given the wrong change. When she returned to my table I explained that I should have received $5.59 to which she replied "oh, that's because we round up." "What? Round up" I ask? "Yes" she replied, "did you want your change?" I stated that yes I did and she returned with it 5 minutes later. This is absolutely ridiculous, round up? I do not plan on returning, my experience was absurd. read more

Would love to see this place succeed as it's a great idea and addition to the neighborhood. However, the counter service is awkward (more than 2 people in line and the line is "out the door". The menu is disorganized and hard to read, and the most disappointing part is that the food was way overpriced for what it was. The 2/2/2 for $12?? Needs to be more of very basic items (eggs bacon and pancakes + bottomless coffee) or way better prepared to be worth the value. I agree with another reviewer that the plastic was hard to get over (cups and plates and baskets). My dining companion didn't care for what he described as a "boring" fried chicken sandwich and couldn't eat the potato salad. I am so glad this place opened up in Andersonville. I love that it's open all day (early morning to night) and they add a great quality, quick dining experience that isn't available elsewhere on the block. Stopped in for a quick dinner and was pleasantly pleased. Limited menu, which I think is good, especially for a new place. We had the Asian Sloppy Joe and the Fried Chicken, both great sandwiches. My dinner-mate also got a cappuccino, which was great, but more importantly, it came with an adorable teddy bear in foam. A nice touch. Staff was friendly and our food came quickly. There's only one register so if you just want coffee to go, you're going to be late if there's a group of 8 ahead of you. The line is also the exit, thoroughfare for the front of the restaurant, coffee condiment area, waiting area, and kitchen exit. I came for lunch and wasn't impressed at all. Staff was nice, the place has a comfortable home-y vibe, but the food was just average. You have to order at the counter and a pager is given to you. I'll start with I did enjoy my turkey club. The bread and bacon had just enough crunch. However, the side of potato salad was basically non existent. It was ice cream scoop size in a small condiment cup. The service needs to greatly improve. In the 45 minutes I was there not one person washed a table or the counter after a customer left. Five different customers, including myself had to ask the barista for the check. When the barista wasn't making coffee she was either on her phone or doing cross word puzzles. She could be busing tables. The kitchen staff delivered my food. This was at 3:30pm on a Saturday. I can't imagine the bad service when it's busy. So went there on opening day. Of course you expect some problems. But there were a lot of problems. I think the first was the fact that they open 15 minutes late on the first day. We were the third person to order our food. Although it took 25 minutes to get a egg sandwich. Another thing which is odd is everybody was commenting that it's called a diner. This thing is farthest from a diner. It has the possibility Of being a good coffee place but not a diner. That portion size compared to the price point is a little off. Need to work a little bit on their portion control. I'm hoping that over the next six months they're able to tweak their menu and tweak a little bit of their business operations to be successful. I do have to say the staff seem knowledgeable and welcoming. Although watch out for that surly line cook, he wasn't too happy when we asked catsup and salt and pepper. His comment, "come on what do you not like my food" honestly that was a big turn off. I may return if some changes are made. read more
