A classic home style Italian restaurant! I initially went not knowing their pizzas were a MUST, so we had ordered spaghetti and meatballs and their chicken parm. Laugh all you want, but I just love noodles, red sauce, and meatballs. We thought "not bad" but knew the next time we came back we had to get pizza. Fast forward to when we returned. We ordered the large sausage pizza and now this is the place we ALWAYS go to for pizza. We decided to switch up our pizza routine and add DeMarinis back into the mix. I'm a fan of their thin crust pizza. We ordered take out and tackle on an order of garlic bread. At first glance I was unsure of where to go for pick up and then noticed the sign on the back wall that said carry out/pick up. Upon heading over, I was quickly helped. The pizza was delicious, just what we wanted. The garlic bread was fine though I don't know that I would get it again. I could easily recreate it at home. Parking can be a bit of a hassle. The street fills up quickly with Three Brothers being around the corner. Watch your step when heading in/out from the bar area as you have to step up/down in a couple spots. read more

I have been going to their restaurants for decades. We moved to Iowa and not only order a large to eat at the restaurant but take a parbaked one for us to enjoy back home. This is the type of place that made me feel like I was back home in central Wisconsin: a bright beautiful bar, people who smiled and genuinely welcomed us in and sat us immediately, a no-nonsense, direct, and efficient yet still warm woman who took care of us throughout. We were immediately asked what drinks and/apps we wanted and they were delivered right away. I got the sangria with garnishes that I'd associate with an old fashioned--I appreciated this! My buddy got a beer and soda. We got fried eggplant and a salad--the small salad was more than enough for us to share before pizza! Surprisingly, a load of bread with multiple butter packets was brought as well. THE PIZZA WAS AWESOME. Crust was crispy but not burnt and the amount of toppings was perfect: it seemed like A LOT but the toppings did not weigh down the crust or make it soggy. Our wonderful waitress "wrapped it up" for us to take home and when I opened the leftovers the next day, the bread and pizza were literally wrapped individually and the salad in its own plastic container. The service was very good!!! Our server's name was Sandy! She was fantastic! I can only speak for myself.....I had a small cheese, sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, onion, and black olive pizza. Pizza's were taking an hour to make so we got our order in pretty quick. There were 4 of us who ordered pizza and the other 2 ordered Ravioli. My pizza was very good but I don't think it was quite as good as DeMarini's in Menomonee Falls. I would definitely go back to Don & Phil DeMarini's. read more

This pizza, baby? Delicious and, dare I say it, delightful. The crust had a great chewiness and was perfectly toasted. This is the ultimate thin crust for me. It's not my go-to style but when I want thin, this is what I'm looking for. The toppings were perfectly proportioned and had a great seared flavor like they were sautéed first. I love pepperoni with a slight crisp at the edges, and I find it pretty rarely but they nailed it. We ordered the #4 with green peppers and black olives added. It's definitely going to be a top choice for me when I want pizza. We ordered a carryout pizza. I picked it up at the bar, and the woman behind the bar was super friendly. The decor is pretty kitsch, but I kinda wanna eat in there in the near future. Seems like a bunch of regulars come enjoy it. Maybe I'll join their crew. You should too. read more

Husband and I have always enjoyed dining at DeMarinis. It's actually been years since we've visited and decided to go back for dinner last night. The place is still its old self. A local dinner filled with great service and regulars! Anna Marie was our waitress and we loved her energy! She is so sweet and kind. Went above and beyond with serving our table. We couldn't have enjoyed our visit more than we did. Thank you for the sweetheart that you are, cracking jokes and making sure we had everything we needed even without asking. We have not ordered a pizza from here in quite some time. Today we decided to have some pizza. They definitely did not disappoint.‼ we ordered a large 16 inch cheese sausage, canned mushroom,onion and crispy pepperoni on the top. It was delicious.‼ We also ordered one of their famous Italian sausage sandwiches. It's huge!!!! With the sauce on the side because we were ordering takeout we didn't want the bread to get soggy. This is always our favorite pizza place!! The sausage pizza is to die for! No surprise they've been open since my mom was in high school.

The food and atmosphere was great. We ordered appetizers, drinks and pizza. We had a group of 9 celebrating 2 birthdays. Our waitress was nice although she wasn't that attentive. The only time she came around was to deliver food. Never really asked the table if we wanted more drinks unless we blatantly asked for them. It was a later dinner reservation and not overly busy so I don't know why she ignored us. I love this place but the server was not great. Was craving carbonara. My husband remembered this place from when he was a kid and his family would come here so we have it a shot. We called before coming and asked if they have carbonara and they said yes. Got there. Nope, definitely do not. Both of our salads were browning and mushy lettuce. Fried eggplant was mushy and completely flavorless. Fried ravioli was fried for way too long and again, flavorless frozen crap. Mostaccioli was also not good. This is a great neighborhood spot for pizza! I came here with my husband when a friend gave us a gift certificate! I'm sad that we took so long to get in here to try the pizza. We sat at the bar on a Friday night and had a good time. Service was great and attentive and the food was delicious. We had the mozzarella sticks and a large 1/2 pepperoni and onion and 1/2 sausage pizza. The pizza is a thin square pan style. Now we order pizza take out from here quite often. Absolutely fantastic. Such history in this building. During World War II this building served as the soup kitchen for a German POW camp located on the site. The food is absolutely delicious. Portions were very small for the price. The meatball sub which used to have 4 meatballs now has only two and the price has increased. Not good at all. They came out hot..and greasy. 2 small pizzas and a large lasagna came to the table with a very sub par salad. Um. I wanted to love this place because some good friends of ours enjoy it and recommended it to us. Unfortunately there was a lot left to be desired. There were a few people at the bar, loyal locals I assume. There was absolutely no one in the restaurant. I wish I remembered the time and day as I'm sure that played a part. However, I felt this restaurant was also awkwardly placed, although easy enough to get to. Waitress was nice enough and since we were the only ones, attentive. On to the food; Complimentary bread was good. Side salad that came with the pasta? Was all ice burg lettuce in a small bowl, a slice of a tomato, a pickled jalapeño pepper and and olive. Why?! Just...why. It was a pathetic excuse for a salad. Spaghetti that we ordered?! Mediocre at best. Pizza?! We ordered a sausage, pepperoni, onion and mushroom pizza. First of all, the mushrooms were canned. That's just a big no-no. Like, who doesn't use fresh mushrooms?! The pizza itself was floppy, instead of sturdy. Meh. Mediocre as well. 4 of us for dinner and no one had a good meal. The fish was well over done and the fries were almost raw. The lasagna was horrible -- not a light tomato sauce. It was served in a bowl with a heavy thick sauce that did not taste good. It was obviously microwaved - there was a crust around the edge where the top of the sauce met the bowl. Nothing good to report here. Dinner salads were a joke. Iceberg lettuce with ONE black olive. ONE slice of tomato. ONE green pepper. Wow, I had forgotten I had reviewed De Marini's. I really do love the friendly service here and everyone walking in gets a hearty welcome by the bartenders. There's nothing more relaxing than sitting at the bar here and getting a drink before your meal. The sangria is pretty good, and my son loves the specialty Black Bear root beer. I've been here many times since my first review, and a recent visit kind of reinforces my previous review that this is a solid 3.0. The pizza is good here, you can't beat their sausage, but the crust can be inconsistent (my family agrees). On our last visit the pizza crust was chewy, not the thin cripsness I remembered from my youth, sadly. From time to time I stray from the pizza, and that's usually not a good idea. Recently ordering a spinach ravioli that was obviously not homemade, confirmed I should never stray from the pizza. My son ordered the Rigatoni with sausage, peppers and onions, and that dish was great, so apparently there are good things other than their pizza. This place could be a Best of Milwaukee (esp. pizza) if they did a Chef Gordon Ramsey and demanded a higher and consistent quality with every dish coming out of the kitchen. read more

One of the best (if not the best) pizza options in town. The pizzas have a light, airy crust. The sauce is easily better than anywhere else, and the sausage is to die for. Sure they have a full Italian menu, too, but why even look at it? My only criticism is the old fashioned look and feel of the place, but I get my pizza to-go. Problem solved! read more

I'm not sure what to make of the mixed reviews here. I play in a band that aims at an elderly consumer demographic; we play a lot of nursing homes. I was talking to an octogenarian who was at that Matthew 26: 40-43 stage of life and I asked, "what do you miss most about (being out and about in) Milwaukee? She said, "the pizza at deMarinis." I figured the place had long since gone out of business, then discovered on YELP that the family was still operating restaurants. I may have to try them all out, we started here. On a polar vortex night, they were having trouble with their heat, the location is an attractive renovated craftsman style hall with big (single pane not insulated) windows. I thought the view was nice, and the patio looks like it would be fun in more appropriate weather. I liked the old fashioned white and red checked tablecloths, the house Chianti was adequate, the pizza was pretty good. If you don't agree on ingredients, you can each get a junior size, or if like me you want to be uncomfortably full, get a small pizza each. It's the crispy thin crust Italian-American style that I'm sometimes in the mood for, and they still have anchovies on the menu. On Wednesday nights they have a drawing after you order and one table gets to eat for free, on Tuesday they have some similar drawing for your bar tab. The table behind us won, they had initially waffled on whether to stay or not because of the chill inside. The extreme cold outside didn't make for a typical night, but we really enjoyed the ambiance, the service, and the food. It's the sort of place that should serve a pretty good spaghetti and meatballs in red sauce, so I'll be back for that, making sure to not wear a white shirt. When I was in college (well the second, more successful attempt at college) at the University of Illinois Circle Campus (as University of Illinois at Chicago was then called) the campus was the north end of Chicago's Little Italy, and there were a dozen restaurants like this one. None of them are left, as a result of gentrification and Italian-American upward social mobility. Time hasn't apparently changed the deMarinis place much. I like the idea that they've been consistent, the waitress has worked here for "17 years" and testified that the pizza recipe has been the same over her tenure. Another member of the family has opened up in Bayview with a claim to the first generation's pizza recipe, and that may have been the pizza my nursing home friend was referring to, this will require some further gastronomic research on my part. read more

I WAS always a big DeMarinis fan. I overlooked the plastic cups and dishes and focused on the pizza. The yellow iceberg lettuce and the flavorless dressing. Never expected much in the way of service. That ended today. I called DeMarini's at 8PM asking if we could pick up a pizza after 10PM because the website says they are open until 11PM on Saturdays. I was told they don't take orders after 10 but they are open until 11. I called at 9:45 to place my order and some jerk at the bar told me that if I didn't pick up the pizza by 10:15 I could not get it. I said, "the web and your staff said you are open to 11", he replied, "they are wrong, take it or leave it". I left it and said I would never come back again and he said good and hung up. Our problem was the person picking it up is at a performance and does not know when it lets out. I was told too bad. I was turned off last time I got a DeMarini's pizza as the pizza quality was not what I remembered and there was so much salt in the crust I had to drink a few glasses of water when done. It was like the maps we made from salt flour and water in grade school. I was going to try it again and see if it was still a favorite but I can tell you I will not be going to a DeMarini's again after the way I was treated on the phone. They should not let jerks answer the phone. I called the Menomonee Falls store and they said they were open to 11 but it would take us 30 min to get there. I ended up ordering from Balistreri's Bluemound Inn. Better service, better pizza, thin crust and they said they are open until 1AM for pickup. No more DeMarini's for me. Came here with my life partner....He lived down here, now resides in Green Bay, raved about the food...He was so right!! We started with the Italian salad which was great. Our pizza wasn't as good as I had remembered it but I still enjoy coming here. Family run and you always get a warm reception when you come In or leave. The bar is always full with regulars. My biggest complaint today was the visible dust balls on the ceiling. I was really disturbed by this. The rest of the place is so cute with the wall paintings to look like you were in an Italian village, so it was disappointing to see this.
