This is the type of place that made me feel like I was back home in central Wisconsin: a bright beautiful bar, people who smiled and genuinely welcomed us in and sat us immediately, a no-nonsense, direct, and efficient yet still warm woman who took care of us throughout. We were immediately asked what drinks and/apps we wanted and they were delivered right away. I got the sangria with garnishes that I'd associate with an old fashioned--I appreciated this! My buddy got a beer and soda. We got fried eggplant and a salad--the small salad was more than enough for us to share before pizza! Surprisingly, a load of bread with multiple butter packets was brought as well. THE PIZZA WAS AWESOME. Crust was crispy but not burnt and the amount of toppings was perfect: it seemed like A LOT but the toppings did not weigh down the crust or make it soggy. Our wonderful waitress "wrapped it up" for us to take home and when I opened the leftovers the next day, the bread and pizza were literally wrapped individually and the salad in its own plastic container. I swear this made leftovers taste even better than expected Finally, I found this restaurant to be very/more affordable compared to other pizza restaurants.

Been 30 years since I've been here and love the new location and cozy and spacious bar. Lots of comfortable seating and servers. Prices are affordable and good portions

This pizza, baby? Delicious and, dare I say it, delightful. The crust had a great chewiness and was perfectly toasted. This is the ultimate thin crust for me. It's not my go-to style but when I want thin, this is what I'm looking for. The toppings were perfectly proportioned and had a great seared flavor like they were sautéed first. I love pepperoni with a slight crisp at the edges, and I find it pretty rarely but they nailed it. We ordered the #4 with green peppers and black olives added. It's definitely going to be a top choice for me when I want pizza. We ordered a carryout pizza. I picked it up at the bar, and the woman behind the bar was super friendly. The decor is pretty kitsch, but I kinda wanna eat in there in the near future. Seems like a bunch of regulars come enjoy it. Maybe I'll join their crew. You should too.

We have not ordered a pizza from here in quite some time. Today we decided to have some pizza. They definitely did not disappoint.‼ we ordered a large 16 inch cheese sausage, canned mushroom, onion and crispy pepperoni on the top. It was delicious.‼ We also ordered one of their famous Italian sausage sandwiches. It's huge!!!! With the sauce on the side because we were ordering takeout we didn't want the bread to get soggy. Really really good pizza and really really good sandwiches. The service was pretty good as well. We will definitely be back.

Spaghetti sauce had no flavor and no seasonings on chicken parmesan. House Red wine was barely drinkable.

This may be the extra helping of wine (I sat at the bar, and the gentleman politely asked "would you like some more wine?" and politely topped me off, because - quintessential Milwaukee), but in short: we have incredibly delicious pasta at reasonable prices in a fast-casual type setting. There's a world-class chef at the helm, but with any sort of air of being pretentious crowded out by video games, kitschy homey decor, and Midwest friendliness (and I'm not just talking about from the generous wine distributor, but his colleague also was very kind in making sure I had a good experience and welcoming me back soon). Tastes good and feels good. What's not to love?

For the cost of the class, I would have thought I would have got a bit more. The other thing that disappointed me was the glasses are open to all ages of children. In my class, I was there with a middle school boy who somewhat took ownership of the class and wasn't behaving very appropriate for what I thought was an adult-only class. This was an event I purchased as an adult-friendly evening, I do wish this was stated when signing up for classes or at least offer adult-only or all ages classes. It just wasn't the vibe I was going for that evening and frankly was pretty annoying. Although, the owner did try to play down the boy's presence and kindly answer his questions, etc - I probably wouldn't take another class there unfortunately. I do enjoy the shop and the pasta is tasty.

Petra and Andy take such pride in their shop and it shows! We started wandering (and salivating over) their small but impressive selection of sauces, oils, salts, and Italian goodies. They have samples of most of their items, so definitely ask when you're in! The class started with Petra giving a brief overview of the general recipe and then we got our hands dirty almost immediately kneading the dough. The dough got to rest for a bit while we got to sip on some beautiful red wine and Petra taught us how to make a puttanesca sauce. When we went back to knead some more, Andy had magically cleaned the stations and set us up for the next round! On our next rest break, Petra finished assembling the puttanesca with some pasta she made earlier that day and we got a healthy serving of fresh pasta and puttanesca, followed by a sample of some of the most amazing Panettone I have ever had. The care that Petra and Andy put into their work is evident, and their commitment to supporting organic, high quality foods is remarkable. Looking forward to many more classes here!

I thought it looked charming, a hold-over from an era not that far in the past, but generally gone. I looked forward to dining there, but it took a recent invitation from new friends to get me through the door. The only reservation we could get was for 4:30. Hmmmmm...OK, I figured we'd be the sole patrons at that time of day, but I was wrong. And that tells you one thing you need to know: Tenuta's is popular, and rightly so. Despite being generally more adventurous in my choices, I ordered the pesto. I judge every Italian place by its bruschetta (on the menu but not ordered) and its pesto, and Tenuta's passed my personal test with flying colors. The most pleasing things about the dish were the very generous amounts of tasty sauce on the pasta, chicken, and zucchini. The least pleasing was the pale orange of the very underripe cherry tomatoes included. Companions had the nightly special (gnocci with bacon and a gorgonzola sauce) and the Calabrese, a tantalizingly spicy dish. Everything was perfect. Desserts ordered were the tiramisu (a large portion) and butterscotch boudino, a dreamy cup of butterscotch pudding, homemade butterscotch sauce, whipped cream, and a bit of sea salt. Service was quick, professional, and friendly. The restaurant is small, but cozy and welcoming.

The dishes served at Sorella reminded me of the food I devoured on the Jersey Shore in towns like Point Pleasant Beach, Brielle, and Toms River. Most Italian restaurants in Milwaukee serve pasta swimming in sauce, burying the pasta's flavor. Sorella got it right. The service was friendly. We sat at the bar eating late and had fun. Most of those spots only open for dinner, so I was thrilled to find that Bavette La Boucherie now serves lunch. My friend, a local, told me the restaurant originally began as a butcher shop. While that's no longer the case, the space still pays tribute to its roots -- shelves lined with kitchen knick-knacks, butcher-block counters, and a display of local provisions that hint at its past. Chef-owner Karen Bell leads the way here, and you can feel her touch throughout -- from the creative menu to the casual-elegant vibe. The décor blends exposed brick and warm wood with soft light and a friendly hum from the open kitchen. Our server, Matthew R., had only been with Bavette a couple of weeks, but his background in restaurant management showed. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and offered great suggestions. Before our sandwiches arrived, we shared a cup of pork and tomatillo pozole topped with cabbage slaw and a dollop of sour cream. It was piping hot, bright, and deeply flavorful -- the kind of starter that makes you stop talking for a minute just to enjoy the next spoonful. Having read rave reviews of the Korean steak au jus, I nearly ordered it, but Matthew suggested the roast-beef with cheddar since I'm not a big lunch eater. Excellent call. The sandwich was divine -- tender, flavorful beef layered with melted cheddar on a crisp, perfectly toasted roll. The beef-fat fries had great depth of flavor, though I'd love them even more if they were twice-cooked for that extra crunch. Being more of a gin or vodka drinker, I couldn't resist the Gin Old Fashioned on the cocktail list. It was delicious -- smooth, aromatic, and balanced enough that I happily ordered a second. Great food, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Bavette La Boucherie is a gem I can't wait to revisit.
