We returned to Milwaukee for a visit and went back to Sorella. The kitchen has improved immeasurably. I almost felt like I was back in Italy. The dishes served at Sorella reminded me of the food I devoured on the Jersey Shore in towns like Point Pleasant Beach, Brielle, and Toms River. My Chicken Parm was fantastic, with a crispy breading and lots of cheese. Like on the shore, it was too much to finish. My wife's pasta was cooked al dente, with just the right amount of sauce. Most Italian restaurants in Milwaukee serve pasta swimming in sauce, burying the pasta's flavor. Sorella got it right. The service was friendly. We sat at the bar eating late and had fun. It was a summer evening and we had a reservation for outside seating. The have two outdoor patios, one covered with a tent, the other open. We were seated on the tented patio, which was packed and was too loud for us to be able to have a conversation. So we asked if we could be seated on the open patio and we were told they were not using the open patio and we had to sit in the tent. It was a beautiful night - there was no reason to have a tent, and the enclosed sides increased the noise level. They could have at least rolled down or opened the sides of the tent to reduce the noise. The dinner was fine. The chicken parm was actually way too large. Our server was very pleasant. You will never guess what happened as we were finishing our dinner. Two parties arrived and were both seated at tables on the forbidden absolutely closed unavailable no matter what open patio. We started out with the burrata topped with chili crisp served with warm focaccia, fried calamari, and grilled octopus (I always get octopus when it's on the menu). For our main courses, we split the red sauce cavatelli and one of their specialty blanca pizza. Every dish was delicious and worth it. The only downsides were that despite having a reservation, we still waited about 30 minutes for our table and we were not huge fans of the cocktails we ordered (maybe just not our style). I've been reading a lot of sites that say Sorella has Milwaukee's best pizza so I decided to order a couple to find out. We ordered a sausage pizza and a Margherita with artichokes and extra cheese. The pizzas were delivered while they were still technically warm. The crust on both was vaguely burnt, but good, traditional hand-style. The char added to the flavor profile. BF enjoyed the sausage and said it had actual fennel seed, a good sign. We both thought the sauce was good and not overly sweet - seemed not to be generic from a big can. My Marg was very good, although the extra cheese was not overly evident. We liked it very much overall and we want to try it again on site. They do not have my vote for best pizza in Milwaukee, however. Jury is out on that one... read more

We came in due to the reviews. We're all foodies. The restaurant had a nice ambiance. Inside or outside seating available. The server was kind. We ordered the spaghetti, calamari, rigatoni, chicken meatballs, gnocchi genovese, and bread. The flavor profile was decent however, the noodles on all dishes seemed undercooked. Sorella was firing on all cylinders when we dined there. We started with the octopus with Calabrian chili oil and arugula, which was a great way to kick things off. The roast beet salad was fresh and well balanced. For mains, the lamb osso buco with polenta was tender and really well executed. The baked ziti Genovese with short rib ragù and béchamel was rich and absolutely worth ordering. Service was outstanding and the room had a lively energy, especially for a 5:30 dinner. We ordered take out not too long ago, so that means I can't speak about ambiance, but can share about our takeout service. We ordered: Cavatelli with Monday sauce; Baked Ziti Genovese with gluten-free pasta; Spaghetti Pomodoro; and Carciofi Pizza. They didn't have gluten free pasta for the Baked Ziti so we had to forgo that menu item. Takeout service was average as there was a communication issue. Husband and I decided to stop by and try some Italian food. We made reservations ahead of time, we got there the staff is very nice and welcoming. Such a fun night at Sorella! Awesome food, quick service, and a fun atmosphere. What's better?? My favorite bite of the night may have been the lasagna. It was a special tonight but they should have it on their menu all the time! It was delicious, with the perfect ratio of pasta, sauce, cheese and meat. A close second was the pizza. I love the wood fire crust and each bite had pepperoni with the perfect amount of hot honey. I'll be dreaming about that for awhile! Had a lovely night at Sorella! It was my first time visiting in maybe two years (!?) so I was excited to return. The staff to start, were all so sweet. From the hostess to the server, and even the kind gal that brought the dishes out from the kitchen. Atmosphere here is very enjoyable - love the decor, high ceilings, indoor/outdoor seating options, and the open kitchen concept so you can look in at all of the chefs hard at work on their craft. If there is a burrata on the menu, you know I'm ordering it, so we started with that! It was creamy and delish, topped with a chili crisp of sorts and served with loads of prosciutto and house made bread that was so yummy I wish I could've taken a loaf of it home. On special that night was a cucumber salad and an octopus dish, so we figured why not go with those! I loved the salad - super refreshing and light. Octopus however, while good in theory, might just not be my jam. It was well cooked, well presented, and plated with other goodies, but I probably wouldn't order again - maybe its a texture thing in my head? All in all, a nice night at Sorella. Stopped in on a recent Sunday night to celebrate a birthday. Our first time there. It was a warm so we opted for an outdoor seat under a tent (also heated). I enjoy al fresco dining but the pea gravel makes it hard at times to balance all 4 legs of the chair-much rather have a flat surface (ie. pavement). Service was quick and friendly. Our large group ordered several appetizers (arancini carbonara, burrata, wood-roasted broccoli, kale caesar, and calamari. I thought all were very good-the burrata with chili crisp and house focaccia was excellent and actually I felt all delivered more in flavor and enjoyed them more than our entrees. For the main course, we sampled several pizzas as well as the cavatelli with "Monday Sauce". Both the pizza and the pasta didn't disappoint but also didn't rise to the top of either category in the city. I will say for the price point, the dishes were well sized. A solid beer/wine/cocktail menu for those that wish to imbibe. Definitely would be a repeat stop if ever in the neighborhood but also not a place I would make a special trip to. read more

My boyfriend and I had an amazing dinner at Sorella for our 1.5 year anniversary! We started with the Burrata which was one of our highlights of the whole dinner! Super delicious and the chili crisp really works great! We shared the rigatoni alla vodka and a Carchofi pizza both were delicious and we loved the pasta especially with the sauce and slight chewiness of the pasta. We ended with the Tiramisu and loved the creaminess and decadence of it. Our server always kind, attentive, and very good to us all evening. This was my second time here and I will be back! This place was absolutely sooo delicious! I came here on a busy Friday night and was seated at the bar. Dimly lit and a very cozy feel. I tried an NA drink that was sooo delicious! Low in sugar and not too sweet, just perfect. I've been here multiple times and each time it reminds me of why I keep coming. Sorella's a vibrant restaurant which a large energy to it, especially during the weekend. I'd recommend reservations especially if you're coming with a larger group. This night I came in by myself and sat at the bar for a personal pizza. The bartender was awesome at recommending her favorite cocktails and bringing out food promptly. Sea bass was not what we expected (usually Chilean sea bass)... it was more on the dry and tough side. Parmigiana was good. The kitchen is very accommodating with special dietary requests. Ambience is quaint and modern. Overall a nice space to gather. The outdoor space they offer looked great, with a cute little fireplace for cold nights. Service was attentive and prompt. Accurate, considering we had party of 14. The main downside is they do not split checks. So if you go with a group, it helps to know ahead of time that they will only allow one check for the entire party. That was kind of a bummer, as it was super hard for us to figure out the check situation at the end, so a couple of us ended up overpaying by a lot. read more

We had dined at Sorella a year ago and had a wonderful experience. When we returned this year, unfortunately, the restaurant was not the same in terms of the food preparation. The craft cocktails were consistent with what we experienced a year ago and we enjoyed them tremendously. The disappointment came with one of the entrées which was the seafood gnocchetti. The menu described the dish to include shrimp, scallops, calamari and cod. My first bite was a cold gnocchi and a baby scallop. I hadn't anticipated cold gnocchi which obviously meant the gnocchi was prepared ahead of time and reheated per order. I alerted a server who said they would reheat it to my dismay, but I sent them away with the plate nonetheless. It did come back, reheated not remade, but reheated, which did not do the dish any justice because it was now just a hot mess with no seafood visible to the eye. They did offer to remake the dish entirely however I was not convinced that any seafood would appear in the remade dish, so I requested a different entrée which they gladly delivered. While this dish was delivered hot, it was not prepared as well as I had had it last year. The seasoning was basically just a salty tomato paste profile. Sadly, we had such fun memories of this establishment and hope that they pay closer attention to the level of food they are delivering to their guests. read more

Visited Sorella for the first time. Enjoyed everything about our dinner. Loved the selection of Italian and Sicilian wines, and ordered a bottle of Mastrobernadino Aglianico that paired well with our dinner. Sorella was just alright. My dining companion and I split the Burrata for an appetizer and it was fine. The chili crisp added a nice hint of spice but made the dish feel way too greasy. The bread that came with it was fluffy with a good crust, but awkward to eat. It was far too large to eat in one bite, but it was also difficult to tear off into smaller bites. Additionally, only three slices of bread came with the Burrata, which didn't feel like enough for the amount of cheese and prosciutto it was being served alongside. For a pasta, I went with the Ziti Alla Genovese. I was deeply disappointed. It was a one-note dish with a meaty short rib sauce that felt soggy. It wasn't totally unpleasant, but definitely not something I'd go back for. My dining companion had the Rigatoni Alla Vodka, which was much better, but still not amazing. The pink sauce was lighter and refreshing. The menu said the dish came with spinach, but there were maybe three leaves total. Once again, not something worth returning for. We opted to split the tiramisu for dessert, which was a good choice. There wasn't as much espresso flavor as I usually prefer, but it was still yummy. Service was pretty mediocre. Our server never seemed to be around when we wanted to place an order or grab the check, but on the rare occasion that we did see her, she was friendly. The food was delivered quickly, which was nice. The host wasn't great, though. Upon arrival, we informed him of our reservation and he just turned around and started walking to a table without saying anything to us. My dining companion and I were unsure whether to follow him since he'd given us zero cues. Ambiance was severely lacking. The chairs were deeply uncomfortable. We were seated near the pizza oven which was radiating a ton of heat. And to top it off, order tickets were spewing out of the machine at an obnoxious volume on the counter right behind us. To be fair, when we were recommended Sorella, we were told to get the pizza. We didn't listen to that recommendation, and I regret it. My dining companion and I agreed that we'd give Sorella a second chance in order to get some of that pizza, which was looking pretty delicious. As for the pasta? Though it was cooked beautifully al dente, I can't say I'd recommend either of the dishes we tried tonight. We spent $107 before tip for two non-alcoholic beverages (a whopping $9 for a single can of glorified fruit juice feels like it should be illegal), an appetizer, two pastas, and a dessert. For just a little bit more money, you can get a much better meal at Tenuta's. If you're looking for great pasta in Bay View, go there instead. read more

I was in Milwaukee for business and found Sorella on Yelp. I called ahead to make sure there was bar seating available and the gentleman I spoke with said absolutely. The restaurant is fairly small and upon entering, I felt very comfortable. I was greeted and directed to the bar the friendly bartender made me a perfect Manhattan while I looked at the menu. I had texted the menu to my girlfriend while I was in the Uber and she texted back " you're having the pork chop, aren't you?" Let's just say the pork chop was fabulous. It was cooked perfectly. The demiglaze was amazing and the peppers were just hot enough. The crispy potatoes are not to be missed and are the perfect accompaniment to the pork chop.
